We are no experts in photography and this camera is just what we needed, easy to use. The auto mode is fantastic... always good pictures (for the non-expert users, at least).
The close-up mode is a very good feature, too.

I purchased this camera in order to take pictures of my granddaughters. I have not been disapointed. I love being able to set it and not have to wait so long between shots. I can click away and not miss a smile or anything. The quality of the pictures is good also. I download them, print and share. I highly recomend this camera. Especially to novices like myself. It gives me what I want in a digital camera without the big price.

Unfortunately , I bought this camera, My earlier camera was Sony and wanter try for a Canon .
Picture is so blur and always a rose color background.As per my understanding each canon camera has different lense makers . I dont recommend this model to any one

I don't think you can ever go wrong with a Canon digital and the A530 doesn't disappoint. It's not the smallest camera, but it fits in your hand well. The screen isn't huge like some other models, but it doesn't feel small either. This camera takes great pictures. It's fast and responsive and the menus are easy to navigate. The 4x zoom is a nice bonus as many cameras in this range have only a 3x. It autorotates pictures taken vertically. The movie mode is excellent. You can take 640 x 480 video at 30 fps until your memory card fills up. I would definitely recommend this camera for someone who's not into the tiny cameras.

It does what I bought it to do; take good quality pictures from a basic aim and shoot camera. It came with a 16 MB memory card which isn't large enough. I installed a 520 card which is sufficent for my needs. Batteries seem to last longer in this camera then my last. I owned a similar Cannon prior to this one, but it failed the drop test. I would recommend this camera.

I got just what i had hoped for and the previous reviews were really helpful as a guide to what would have matched my interest.There are so many features that i really like and the camera is user friendly, portable and easy to manage.
I would have been glad if i made a close look at the LCD.I would have liked an LCD that can turn around and is not fixed since i like taking pictures of myself.which would have helped me to see myself before i take the picture.But otherwise this is not a big deal, once i got used to it, am taking nice pictures of myself, without trouble.

I bought this camera as a replacement for my very old 2.1 MP Kodak Easyshare. I really like the ease of use and the picture quality. One thing I really like is that it is ready to take a photo within one or two seconds of turning the camera on. My old camera would take a few seconds. I also like that the camera uses AA batteries and an SD memory card.
The only thing I would like to see on this camera that it doesn't have, and the one thing that makes my rating a four instead of five, is an anti-blur feature. Other than that I am very pleased.

My wife and I purchased the A630 3 months ago after doing a decent amount of research, and we both love it. Almost every feature of this camera is great. Long battery life (4 AAs), Good-Sized LCD screen, 8MP provides high-quality photos and movies even at 16x zoom, fast shutter speed (no waiting 5 seconds for the camera to "reset" in between pictures), etc. One of the neatest features is the fold-out LCD screen. We have 2 small children (age 3 and 11 months). If you flip out the screen so that they can see themselves, you can get some good photos because they're focused on watching themselves on the screen!

The camera makes great photos...simple to use....but memory card is way too small! Figure in the additional cost of new larger memory card when purchasing this item.

This is my second Canon camera. The first one was a A75, which I bought back in 2004 and which died from the horrible defective Sony sensor (you know, horizontal purple banding) syndrome in the summer of 2006.
When time came to buy a new camera, I was at first wary of buying Canon again, but ended up taking the plunge with this A630 before taking a trip to Chile. After all, Sony had said that they had already identified and corrected their mistake.
FALSE. Last summer, all of a sudden I noticed that a few pictures revealed a very subtle purple banding on one of the corners. It's been a year since then, and the problem seems to have gone. I really hope Sony kill the sensor problem once and for all, and I look forward to using my A630 for a few more years.
By the way, when my A75 died, Canon's representative in Quito, Ecuador did not honor the "free repair" Canon had offered for buyers affected by the sensor problem. They just kept giving me excuse after excuse. So I took it with me to Canon's repair center in Chile, where it got repaired, no questions asked.

Once I read the instruction book and understood what to do, I started taking pictures, very simple to use. I didn't get into the tech stuff but for the normal picture taking it is very simple, and takes great pictures. I recommend buying the Sandisk 2.0GB memory card for this camera.

I've had this camera since March 2006. Bought it to replace my venerable 2.1MP Oly C2040. Wife wanted a smaller camera (the Oly got left behind a lot simply because it was so bulky), and liked the feel of the A530.
Outdoors, it's a great camera -- great zoom for a compact, good viewfinder for when the sun washes out the display, and continuous shoot mode gives well over 2 shots per second (with a 150X SD card anyhow -- I found my old 40X SD card bogged the camera down in continuous shoot mode). Resolution and color are quite good.
Indoors is a different story, 'tho -- the flash maxes out about around 10ft, so shots of most indoor sports are either dark, grainy, or blurry, depending on your settings. Even worse, the flash takes nearly 10 seconds to recharge, even with freshly charged NiMH batteries. This is an eternity when you're trying to do any sort of indoor photography.
Unless you're planning to do all of your shooting outdoors, I'd stay away from the A530 (and the A540, which has the same issues indoors). If you want small, take a look at the Canon Elph series -- spendy, proprietary batteries, and fragile screens, but the flash recharge time is roughly half that of the A530/A540. The Canon A6xx series (which use 4 AA batteries instead of 2) are quite a bit bulkier than the A530/A540, but they also have good flash recharge times.

the camera is good in many perspective.. one is that it offers... a very clean cut design.. Everything works out of the box.. just pop in the battery and the memory and turn it on, press the button to take the photograph. However, the quality of the zoom is a little bit blurry.. And there is no image stabilizations.. I tried taking pictures while i was hiking up the mountain... all the images came out with motion blur.
Those images that you take when standing still and not walking.. its' quality came out great. Good pixel quality.
I didn't like the silver skin on the camera so much. I am a big fan of the color black.. And now that canon came out with powershot a640 (in black).. [...]

We bought this camera for our grand daughter who is turning 15 in July. She took 200 pictures with it the first week...loves it. Video is subpar, but expected with a camera this price. It can handle up to a 2gig SD card, so she has lots of room for the cruise her grandma is taking her on this summer. If we had to do it again, we would probably move up a notch, to get better video. But in her case, as fast as video eats memory, maybe we did the right thing after all. Bottom line, it's great for the money, and Amazon's price beat almost everyone else out.

I own a Canon G2 4MP camera that takes fantastic pictures indoors and outdoors. It takes fantastic indoor picture without a flash, which at times is a plus because you do not lose anything in the background like you do when you use a flash.
I just became a Grandmother and wanted a camera that also takes good video. So I ordered the A630 and I am very disappointed with the quality of the indoor pictures. It takes a fantastic video at the high setting and takes great outdoor pictures. But is poor with indoor pics, very grainy. I tried all different settings to try and see what I am doing wrong, does not matter the indoor pics just stink.
I am returning the camera and looking for a better indoor picture quality with the 640 video settings.

People have different views on how the camera takes pictures and how it works with flash on and off etc. The biggest thing I have noticed with these reviews are the arguments on batteries. I have noticed that the normal alkaline batteries last 35-45 pictures. However, the lithium batteries last MUCH longer...like 200 pictures more. Lithium isnt a special battery you have to order, they are sold at any store that you can buy this camera and they are moderately priced too.

If u r looking for a camera that can take quick photos and videos , especially at night , this is ur best bet.
The night mode feature with this cam is excellent - I've seen friends of mine struggling with their sonys to capture a decent unblurred image at night , with no luck ---- while i just clicked away with the A620...
the rotatory display feature is most convenient to use especially when ur travelling alone.
Also with the lil accessories that come along with it - especially the mini tripod stand , u can set the timer and click away , without having to beg others to take a pic.
Resoution is fantastic - even when u watch it on full screen TV/comp.
At max resolution u will get about 12 pics with a 32 MB card - but of course u can adjust the resolution.
Batteries that come along are amazing and u could take a whole day's (50 pics with flash )pics without having to worry about the battery running out.
did i mention - fantastic shutter speed - the person in front of the lens doesnt have to continue to pose a few seconds after the click as with other digi cams.
The negative:
->a bit bulky - as in can't fit into ur trouser pocket.

I am really pleased with my Canon A630. I upgraded from a Canon A70. The interface has improved. The LCD is really good and I love the fact that it folds out for use and folds away to protect it from being scratched. The sharpness and color are great. I really recommend it.

Both my new Canon A630 and older Canon A80 are satisfactory in all respects. The automatic feature on both is flawless when the simple press half way/hold/compose/shoot directions are followed. The lens quality on both is outstanding. The reason I bought the A630 was to increase the pixels from 4 (A80) to 8 (a530). It turned out to be be helpful only with enlargements exceeding 8 X 10 inches. All smaller were perfect with the A80. The most significant advantage of both cameras is the ability to shoot over the heads of people in front of you. The snap out swiveling viewing screen allows you to hold the camera high over your head, look up, and still perfectly see the scene you are shooting

I have purchased this camera 3-4 times to gift to my friends / relatives. This is a real nice product, picture quality is good. The only negative is that it is a bit bulky and it requires 4 AA batteries.

This is a good camera but it still takes regular batteries instead of being able to plug in and be recharged. This can be a pain on a trip as you will have to also either pack extra batteries or a battery charger for rechargeable ones. It is also a bit heavy because of the batteries. Still a good deal but something you may want to know.

I purchased the Waterproof Case for my Powershot A640 to use on my family trip to Costa Rica. It worked well for day shots on the beach and I did not have to worry about sand getting into the camera or problems with humidity or rain and the potential damage to my A640. Unfortunately, the Waterproof case interferes with the flash, so all night/indoor or photos requiring a flash (underwater) include a large black square on the bottom right side of the photograph. This was very frustrating and is an obvious problem with the fundamental design of the underwater housing.
