Great shots, true photo feel, all sorts ah things really. No problems or flaws yet. The supplied batteries shot for several sessions during carnival and all. They are now done after about 2 months. I didn't even set the pic resolution n size for optimum battery life.

Great little camera. Am now gonna become more technical with it as I attempt more professional shots as I go about work.

After my 3 year old Nikon Coolpix started draining rechargeable batteries, I carried out some research of similar camera's within the same price range and chose the A640 and can only say it has been a delight to use. It looks complex with all the buttons and settings, but it can be a plug and play without even consulting the manual. The quality of my pictures have improved greatly over my previous camera (albeit it was only 3m mpx). Not being a massive camera user, this has really given me the bug and I enjoy trying the different settings and getting to know it's capabilities. The rotating screen is also a great idea for getting pics above a crowd etc. The pics are almost taken instantly unlike my previous camera, where it was at least 5 seconds after pushing the button. In addition it is ready to take the next pic within seconds. Like all camera packs, the memory card supplied only stores about 10 pics before it is full, so expect to purchase a larger memory card, but I won't hold that against it.

All in all an excellent camera and in my opinion, great value for money.

After doing a lot of research, we purchased the Canon Powershot A460 for our son and his wife as a gift. It is their very first digital camera. It was very easy to use right out of the box. Later that week we learned that our youngest son also has this camera and he absolutely loves it, too. Way to go Canon!

I began, years back, with Canon's Powershot A20 2MP), then promoted myself up to the A70 (3.2MP) about two year ago. Three days ago, I received my newest self-indulgence: the new Powershot A540 (6MP). So far, I have used it to take 40=50 shots, indoors and out, day and night, using both the Automatic and Custom settings. In every instance, I have been more than simply pleased.

The 2 1/2 inch LCD display is a particularly welcome feature for me at nearly age 60 - everything is a LOT easier to see. I bought a 1GB Secure Digital card for it (Canon insists in shipping their cameras with a useless 16MB card) and a set of 2500s (NiMH batteries.)

Compared to the A70, this camera is easy to manage, quite light (requiring only two batteries, not the four needed by earlier models.) A simple delete button also simplifies the immediate dumping of bad shots. The 4X optical zoom is also a welcome change to the older format.

I am purely an amateur photographer.

Other criticisms I have seen re the poor definition on the LCD screen are, I feel, kind of 'nit picking' - looking for something to criticize about a really good camera.

I found this one online for $223. (Shipping included), sold the A70 used through Amazon for $160 in 24 hours - so the upgrade cost me about $60 net. Well worth every penny.

The pictures themselves are clear. The white balance is great and I leave the setting at 1600x1200 - unless I feel I will need a poster size print. This setting allows over 1700 images on the 1GB card!

I think it will do quite nicely.

Light, easy to handle and good quality images. What else could we realistically hope for at this kind of price?

This is a great product. I am very pleased with it and am enjoying using it. I would recommend it to anyone. Two of my friends have the identical camera, but paid more for it in a retail store. It's a great camera at a great price!

I have owned canon cameras for several years now and I continue to buy. One of the best features is taking pics of people or things at night time and them come out perfectly! You can't really see through the view finder, but you can adjust/guessimate. Try it out!

We love this camera. We love it so much that when our toddler broke our older model we didn't hesitate to buy the exact same camera. It is easy to use and the quality of the photos is fantastic. I also take several short videos of random daily events, a very cool feature.

This is a great overall camera. I like the swivel screen a lot. This feature allows you to take pictures of yourself or of objects in different angles and still be able to see what you are photographing. The pictures are very clear. The auto mode seems to work better for the most part than choosing a specific setting option. The camera is very versitile and easy to use. A great camera for the affordable price.

I absolutely love this camera. I bought it after having an HP for about a year or so before it was stolen. This Canon replaced that, and I am kind of glad the HP was stolen. hehehe This Canon has amazing features, so if I want to do creative photography, I can... and if I want to do snapshot shooting, that is easy as well. I got this camera about 2-3 weeks ago, and I'm still getting used to all of the features, but I am not complaining. Also, I've used the camera almost everyday since then, and the factory batteries are just dying now. Not too shabby, eh? :-D

I've had my Canon A630 now for a month and am very happy with its ease of use and performance. I do not like small lite weight cameras. This one definitely has substance. I think the weight and size are perfect. My last camera had 4MP and I can sure tell a difference in the pictures taken with this one. They are amazing! Before I purchased this camera I read a lot of reviews saying that it was difficult to hold this camera steady so the picture wouldn't be shaky. The instructions tell you to change the ISO setting so you won't have this problem. I did this and have never experienced a shaky picture. This camera has my highest recommendation.

This camera replaces my older a70 model, it is lighter and I find easier to use and does take great pics and also nice videos @ a very nice price, a great starter camera for anyone. Iam using this one more than my other bigger more expensive cameras

I still shoot 35mm film with my Canon AE1, but I've been looking for a small digital I can carry in a pocket or small bag while traveling. I've always trusted Canon's quality, so after research, I chose this one. I just returned from Alaska, and found this little camera went places my film camera couldn't.. like trail riding outside of Skagway. The camera easily fit into my jacket pocket and I could still photograph from the back of a moving horse without dropping the reins to focus. I never really thought I'd find a digital camera that could perform as well as my trusty Canon AE1, but this definitely does at 1/4 the weight. Get one!

There is a recall on this camera regarding the battery door which could cause a fire and drains the batteries quickly. I had it fixed by canon for free. I thought this might impact the shutter and write time. It did not. This camera takes forever to take and write to SD card. You will miss important pictures. Do NOT Buy.

I do not like this camera. I think this camera takes horrible pictures. My pictures are blurry and not clear. It is very slow. It eats up AA batteries. My kodak 3mp camera took a lot better pictures than this 5mp camera

the only good thing about this camera is that it is easy to use and cheap.

I love this camera. It takes awesome photos and the flip screen comes in handy a lot. The only problem is that they sent me the wrong hook up for my computer. It's too small.

Thanks to Canon's recent cashback offer I have been able to put one of these cameras into my sweaty eager mitts and I'm so glad I have. This is a remarkable little camera and worth every penny. Aside from the incredibly useful swivel screen the main benefit, at least for me, is the A640's exceptional macro facility. If you doubt for one minute just how good this is get yourself along to Flickr and search for "A640 macro" If you do I guarantee you'll be heading back here and adding the A640 to your basket. For the ultimate in compact digitals it doesn't get much better than the A640

The camera is my first digital one and was super easy to learn to use. The pictures look great and it's simple to get the correct exposure. The memory card that comes with the camera has a very small capacity though (holds about 4 photos) so a separate memory card is a necessity.

I chose this camera from Consumer Reports as the best one and I can see why. This is our second digital camera and it is great! We were able to purchase through Amazon at a tremendous savings over Walmart!! Highly recommend. Compare prices and see for yourself.

Great camera for people like me who just want ease of use, low price and take some reasonable decent pictures, but does not have much time or knowledge to evaluate the different cameras. It is my second digital camera and is much better (smaller, lighter, cheaper, better video) than my first one. The 16MB memory card that comes with the camera is pretty much useless because it is too small memory for the 7MB camera. So I bought a 2GB one separately.

My husband bought me a camera a few years back. It was a fuji. 2.0 pixel so I couldn't blow the pictures up bigger than 4x6 and it look good. My mother-in-law bought her husband the Canon A570 I think and I loved the camera. I am into a little money last month so I did a little research. Amazon had the camera cheaper than everyone. Walmart,office depot, kmart,and best buy. Prices range between $249-399. The camera came with everthing I needed. This is the best camera!!!!!!

I have owned the Canon PowerShot A70 for several years.. I was overdue to upgrade..

This camera is great!

- SD memory is very small, and takes less power and holds more images.. even at 8 MP!!

- The swing-away LCD is very convenient!

- Large enough to hold on with out shaking! (smaller cameras aren't steady)

optics are excellent.

- Imagery is fantastic for 8 MP.

- AA batteries can be had anywhere.. and rechargeable ones are inexpensive.

- SCN modes help lighting, Aperture, Exposure etc.

The camera's functions can be a bit overwhelming.. but offer so much control!

Summary:

Good quality camera. Point and shoot enthusiast and control fanatics!

Having used a Sony Mavica FD83 digital camera for a long time we recently purchased this new Canon digital camera last month. We are pleased with the camera, written instructions, software, compactness and many, many features. It will probably take us some time to figure out all of the things this camera can do. I really like the automatic setting the camera provides which takes great pictures and I don't have to figure out intricate settings to get a good picture. There are also lots of add-ons we can get and will soon purchase the telephoto equipment and rechargable battery equipment. Meanwhile, we are taking super pictures using standard AA batteries. You will definitely need a bigger SD card because this camera takes some big pictures and will use up the included SD Card real fast.

When you are looking for quality you must look at two things: That the product do functions than you search, for the price than you may pay. That is quality. It is very good camera for that price. Only I recommend buy batteries rechargeable additional, because the normal batteries do not last long time. But buy, with 5MP and 4x, is very good for most user.

I like this camera. However, I have much to learn before I become an expert with this complicated `Automatic' camera. I continue to learn about the many neat features it has. I have not yet been disappointed with any of the hundreds of photos it has taken. I find that most photos become a very large memory j-peg file, much larger than the files produced on my first digital camera ( 3.1 megapixels ) I have found that the batteries last much longer than on my previous camera. This camera uses four `AA' batteries while the last camera used only two `AA' batteries and they discharged quite fast. MY previous camera would shut down the moment either battery dropped to 1.4 volts. I have yet to see if this camera does this....I am still on my first set of batteries. The only thing that I was a bit disappointed regarding this camera was the flimsy plastic cover on one end of the camera that covers the USB connection. This cover seems to always be open and I latch it. I fear this plastic piece will soon break off from use.

The camera is nice to handle; it is well designed to fit in your hand.

With seven megapixel resolution, I wished it had more optical zoom than 4X, but then the low price of this great camera reflects the limited zoom capability.
