You will not be able to put this camera in your shirt pocket. It does not come with the tastefully designed case you get with the Digital Elph - actually, it comes with no case at all - but, unlike digital SRLs, it will not cause a permanent spine damage, while still providing a pletora of manual options. The sharpness and color rendition are fine for my unprofessional eye, and among its features I really like the ability to "downgrade" an already taken shot to a lower resolution; saves space while giving you an option of still keeping this "not so great, but..." picture.
My major concern was the batteries: how many should I carry? I started with two Energizer Li batteries, which I get cheaply in bulk at the Sam's Club. After a week of vacation and more than 300 shots on highest resolution/largest size, many taken with flash, I still didn't need to change batteries! This leaves my Canon rechargable battery pack unused and unopened.
"Facial recognition" works great if faces are big enough and subjects are directly facing camera. I use it to see whether anyone's eyes are closed on the picture - it's much faster than usual scrolling and zooming.
Macro mode works great - so much better than in smaller Cannon cameras!
Image stabilization: I did not notice much effect of it, especially with higher zoom, but I didn't test it specifically.
To me, this camera is a great transition from the credit card-sized point-and-shoot-and-email-it cameras to something different, which might eventually help me to make prints worth hanging on the wall.

I'm very pleased with my purchase, incluyding the price I paid through Amazon. The camera has proved simple to use with good pictures with the 7.1 MP and 3.4 zoom.
I would recommend this to anyone who wants an affordable camera without the problems of complicated technology to master.

What a great little camera! I bought this for my wife and she loves it! It looks good, has many features, and takes very good pictures. What more can you ask for? and at this price it`s a bargain! I would recommend this camera to any one.

So far tried just a few shots with this camera. The macro is very impressive, the white balance is good in all conditions I tested (and I did try some hard ones), the 20X zoom is mind-blowing. In good light focusing was fast and sharp, good improvement over the S5 IS. Image processing was very fast too, thanks to the Digic4 processor.

Cons. In low light, the performance is limited, just like any powershot-range camera. Because of densely packed pixels on the sensor, any ISO over 200/400 is unusable. This also limits your zoom at low light, you will need to keep it steady for long exposures. If you plan taking loads of shots in low light consider something else (may be the long-promised Panasonic G1?).

I upgraded from the Canon Powershot S3 looking to benefit from the slimmer form factor so I can put it in my pocket for hiking, backpacking, and stadium events. For general photography, I would rely on my Nikon D80. Under low light condition, indoor and especially in stadium shows, I was really impressed with the camera's performance and stunning image quality even at the maximum 10x optical zoom. I was able to capture moving subjects in Auto mode in low light condition a good 90 percent of the time. This is impressive for a point-and-shoot camera and I would be even more impress if the flash recharge time can be reduce from the 7 to 8 seconds delay. I've tested the macro feature as well and find it very impressive.

I like the large 2.5 LCD display which makes composing and viewing results so much more enjoyable. The video quality is amazing, yes even for indoor shows. I also like the zoom control position conveniently right next to the shutter but it could be more accurate. I think the amazing attractive price point makes it truly a compelling buy. The only aspect that I don't like is the part that everyone else has pointed out, that is, the memory card is in the battery compartment now. That is just a warp design, so I have to resort to transfering pictures using the provided USB cable instead of taking out the memory card. Canon deserves to get ding on that point, but it's not too burdensome to use the cable instead.

Overall, I am very happy with the camera and will definitely recommend it.

Great price for amazing quality pictures. The camera itself is very simple, but the quality of pictures is astonishing! Gives better pictures than some $500 cameras!!!

The Canon Powershot SX10is is probably the nicest digital I could ever want to use. The pictures are clear and crisp. I love that you can take pictures WHILE taking videos and the features are OUTSTANDING. This camera was a gift and the second digital canon camera that I own.
This camera takes great pictures- the flash response time coming back for the next picture is slower than I would have liked, but the quality of the pictures and the large viewing screen make up the difference. My powershot S3IS takes great pictures also- even in the dark without flash.
I would recomend this camera to anyone.

I purchased this camera for my 86 year old mother after her film-type SLR gave up the ghost. She was able to use it immediately right out of the box with almost no instruction. The picture quality is excellent and the camera is versatile and quite easy to use. I would recommend the Power Shot A470 for anyone looking for a really good point and shoot camera. The layout of the controls and the easily understood menu make the camera a real delight to use.

Outstanding product. Its all good. I replaced a Kodak 712 that had failed. The Canon does more and its Easy to use. I can't say anything bad about this camra. I am very happy with the Canon SX10IS.

This is a nice camera, especially for the price. It does everything that I need it to do: auto focus/flash, zoom...It uses AA batteries which is a plus in my book because I don't like having to recharge batteries (or buy replacement rechargables). Since AA batteries are available everywhere, I never have to worry about battery levels. Cameras that use AAs are usually a little larger than those with the small rechargable batteries, but it is worth a little extra bulk in my opinion. I bought a large memory card for it so I can take hundreds of photos.

My son and I both ordered the same camera unbeknownst to the other. We both love the camera! It takes great pictures; the big screen is fantastic for those of us who can't really see those tiny pictures. The face finder tells you when to use the flash. We took a picture of our ceiling fan going at top speed and the picture looked like it was standing still. There are so many delights to the camera if you read the manual. And even if you don't, the auto setting makes it a snap to use.

This Canon camera does an excellent job. The pictures are incredible. It is so easy to set up and hook up to the computer. I absolutely love it, and highly recommend it to everyone.

I really love this camera, it's easy to use, and takes great pictures. It also looks great! Would definetly recommend it, and think it is reasonably priced.

I only have this camera for less than 1 month and only used it once. So far, it gave me excellent pictures. I have to learn more about it before I could give it a higher rating

I have been pleased will this product so far. Kudos for the mechanical stabilization; works great! Thumbs down for the SD card that comes with it. I upgraded to 4 gig immediately. Lack of view finder makes using telephoto shots harder. Camera is loaded with features that may be great, I just don't understand them. With Amazon pricing and service; well worth purchasing.

I'm a mom that was looking to upgrade her 3mega pixel camera to one with a higher mega pixel to get better pictures upon enlargement. I was debating whether to spend more to get the highest pixels or go with the Canon A590IS with 8MP. I decided budget wise to go with the A590IS. Boy was I glad I did...this is a great camera! The pictures are so clear and there are so many options on this camera if you want to be creative and change how your shots come out. I think my 15 month old is becoming a "Ham" now that mommy always has the camera in his face!

I purchased the A620 two years ago. Though I wish it could be lighter and more compact than it is, I gladly put up with these minor inconveniences for such a wonderful tool. The picture quality is outstanding for a point and shoot but the real gem is the flip out screen. I have been able to capture pics of photo shy folks countless times because the subjects didn't know the lens was pointed at them. By opening the flip out to 45 degrees, then standing sideways to subject, I use screen to frame subject then capture them un-posed. Super!
Canon would be smart to continue this feature on at least one of their P&S models. I will be very disappointed to lose the "candid ability" should my Canon A620 ever fail.

I bought this camera as a gift for my son. He did the research on it and I ordered it for him. He said it is user friendly. He has taken some awesome pictures! He is very happy with this camera. I would highly recommend it.

I bought this camera for my 8 year old daughter to use (she has taken great photos with it). It is a simple camera, with not a huge number of settings and great video capacity. I also ended using it a lot because it is so light weight and compact (can fit in a pocket). We are very happy with this camera and with good rechargeable batteries it has a nice battery life. A "1 G card" works well, you should buy one with the camera. I would recommend this camera.

I have owned a 35mm Canon Rebel for the past 7 years - it takes fantastic photos so I just can't bring myself to part with it. I bought this camera because it is small and can stay in my purse for those unexpected photo opportunities. It has many of the same features (and then some) as my Rebel. It it well priced compared to other camera brands that offer less.

This is an excellent small digital point and shoot camera with a good zoom. It fits easily in a pocket or purse, produces sharp images and handles a wide range of lighting conditions well. It is great for grab shots even when you or the or the object of photography is moving. The image stabilizer really works! My only complaints are that the two AA batteries are used up rapidly and that the cover of the battery compartment can be difficult to close properly. Since with heavy use, batteries must be changed fairly often, the latter can be irritating and also can result in the camera not operating until the cover is reopened and reclosed.

The first Powershot I got was DOA...Amazon was lightning quick about replacing it and the 2nd one was far better EXCEPT PLAN on replacing the batteries IMMEDIATELY! I am still learning the immense capabilities of this camera and love that I can take movies as well as still shots.

I'm not a fancy photographer, I just want to point and click. This baby is easy to use and powerful enough for everyday shots. It replaces a PowerShot 2MP so the detail in my images is a real step up for me. Also, I usually don't care about a gadget's aesthetics vs its utility, but I love that it's cute and shiny. :D Looks great IRL. Adorama Camera delivered fast in perfect condition at a great price.
