Only dislike that in the auto setting the flash is on, I normally turn it off straight away to prevent it causing any unwanted problems. The resolution and contrast are fine for later manipulation even if it is a little bit dark.
It does eat AA batteries, about one hour of work per set, but rechargeables solve that problem. The interface is very intuitive and the included sw has an excellent GUI. The auto mode, macro setting and delayed shutter are outsanding features.
The only thing I think you should be careful of is the batteries. My father and I realized that regular AA batteries wouldn't last very long. You have to use long lasting, good batteries and I'm always sure to bring extra batteries on a trip.
Want to put the camera into movie mode but don't want to use up the batteries? Press display a few times and the screen will turn black, a handy feature that doesn't drain the batteries.
Overall, the camera is a great choice for future photographers who can't afford a big expensive professional camera. 5 stars!
I would buy again and recommend to many!
Thank-you
Pros
----
1. View finder - saves battery life
2. AA batteries - no extra camera specific charger; easy to find batteries in emergencies
3. quite small - still fits in a jacket/Bermudas pocket
4. Manual/Av/Tv controls
5. Cheap
Cons
----
1. Av does not blur background much - since sensor size, distance to lens is different from DSLRs, its effectively like 4 to 5x the aperture value. (ie. at widest of f2.6, its more like f13 or more.... )The background just does not blur out unless its quite far from the subject.
2. 35mm at widest and not 28mm which would be ideal.
Don't really need 9mp. I turn it way down and still have to shrink the pictures to Email them. Guess if I turn pro I'll get some use out of it.
Picture quality is good. Flash is powerful for taking photos in dark.
HD videos in 1280 x 720 with 16bit stereo sound.
The best part is that the microphone has an auto level control so
if the sound gets to loud the level drops so the sound never gets
distorted, Awesome for concerts and shows in parks.
I had to purchase a little grip called CamGrip it screws in to the tripod
socket this little rubber grip is a great help, in holding this little camera
because its so small at times it's hard to hold. the grip helps a lot.
check it out at CamGrip.com
As for memory cards you will need to purchase big ones
if you are planning on shooting lots of videos get a 16 GB SDHC card.
16GB will give you 50 minutes of HD videos
16GB cards are getting cheaper you could purchase them for around $60.00
As for battery life i get around 40 minutes if you don't zoom in and out too much,
from the Canon battery.
I have seen up to 50 minutes without zooming.
The biggest minus is the cheap feel of the camera. While SX100 was made in Japan SX110 comes from China. My Sony DSC-H10 feels like a tank when compared to SX110.
SX110 has one stop ISO advantage over Sony thanks to Canon's fast lens. For scenes when SX110 picks ISO200, DSC-H10 has to pick ISO400. This causes noticeable quality difference for 1/2'5 sensor cameras.
SX110 is slightly smaller than it's predecessor and DSCH10 making it easy to carry in front pocket of Jeans.
