Decided to take a chance on this ASUS monitor, as I was in a hurry ... a couple of the fluorescent back light tubes in my Samsung monitor went out, so a new monitor was needed quickly. LED technology seemed the logical way to go.Received the monitor quickly via Amazon's standard shipping ... they do an amazing job of delivering product.Connected the monitor to my near 4 yr. old desktop (from CyberPowerPC) via the DVI port. When I first turned it on and went to my email client (mostly white background), I thought I was going to get a sun tan .. yeah, that's how bright it was set out of the box. I went to the menu (not having read any instructions) and fumbled my way around until I got most things set to reasonable levels. Not going to post my levels as some did, as that's a personal preference you'll deal with on your own. I kept the same display settings: 1680 x 1050 at 32 bit color and 60hz. (trying to go higher in freq. reduced the resolution size)When I looked at my desktop, I noticed that it definitely looked different .. almost squished (vertically). Opening Windows Live email client, the text in my emails looked blocky and poorly defined (compared to what I'd been used to with my previous Samsung monitor). I opened Firefox browser and found the same to be true with mostly text pages (like, say, Google News). Also, drop down menus in Firefox exhibited the same poor text look. I went to the Options in Firefox and changed some of the fonts and got things a little better, but its still far below what I'd gotten used to with the Samsung monitor. I've tried other programs, such as Excel and Word, with similar results for the text ... just not sharp and clear or as bold as before. The graphics in games look okay, albeit somewhat squished for some reason I can't figure, since I'm running at the same resolution as before. One other oddity I've notice was at the Speakeasy Speed Test site. When the download speed test is occurring, the meter doesn't move until the download test is over ... then the upload test looks normal. I don't know if that has to do with refresh rate or not, but it sure is annoying. Never had this problem with the Samsung monitor.Frankly, I'm pretty disappointed. I got this ASUS monitor, partly due to the good performance from the ASUS motherboard in my desktop, and also the wonderful display I have on my Nexus 7, which is made by ASUS. Why this monitor looks like hell .. I don't know. Is it bright? Hell yes! Is the viewing angle that much superior to my old LCD Samsung monitor .. I'd have to say "No". My over all impression is that I made a bad (quick) decision under pressure to get a new monitor quickly. Given a 2nd chance, I'd go with a different choice.Computer: CyberPowerPC with Intel I7-950 running at 4ghz, liquid cooled, 6 GB Corsair DDR3 Triple channel memory, AMD Radeon HD-4850 1GB graphics card. OS: Windows 7 (64 bit).

So far I am very satisfied with the monitors. These are actually my first IPS and I can say I am simply amazed and the picture. Before I go on let me post my settings because out of the box settings are the WORST and will make you want to return the item.Splendid: TheaterSharpness: 45Trace Free: 80ASCR: ONBrightness: 90Contrast: 78Saturation: 70Color Temp: User Mode with all colors maxedSkin Tone: NaturalSmart View: OffWith those settings everything should look great IMO. I actually bought 3 monitors because I am running SLI configuration for programming and for gaming. Because I have such a small desk, at the moment, I had to angle the monitors 75 degrees from the center monitor. So if you can picture that in your mind, I want to say I have NO problem seeing anything. The colors still look great and gaming is just as fun. Only problem (this is not the monitors fault) is my head hurts from turning lol, just wanted to share that :PSome might ask if the 21 inch is too small. I can say I was worried about this too because I was using my PS3 3d display beforehand and can say that text is a fraction of a bit smaller. Unless you have really bad eyes, these monitors are perfect size. I also like the size because I have heard the bigger you go, the more you can see the LED backlight. In my case I can say on a totally black screen I see MINOR backlighting; nothing that would make the screen look awful, don't let that turn you away from the monitor. Some reviewers have had bad outcomes with dead pixels and what not, I bought 3. Not one of them has had any problem except for user error. This user error was I thought all 3 monitors were dead because when I "touched" the power button it didn't respond. Don't fall victim like I did, the power button is under the screen, it is not a fancy touch sensitive button like I thought, again user error. You have plenty of connection options except display port but that is alright because I prefer DVI and HDMI so it really is user preference. No speakers but again doesn't bother me, I use a headset. Lastly, the design is sleek but the stand feels cheap. Just touching the monitor a little and you will notice a bouncing effect (monitor rocks back and forth). This could have been made better but I don't plan on moving them or touching them so not a big deal breaker. So overall I am very happy with the purchase. The picture looks great at all angles, the frame rate if perfect (even for hardcore gaming, tested BF3 with ultra-settings, SLI 670s, and all three monitors in surround mode and it was PERFECT/BREATHTAKING), and the price couldn't be any more appealing for IPS. You will easily tell the difference from TN to IPS and you will never go back. Thank you for reading the review, if you would like to know more and any questions PLEASE leave a comment. I tend to check my amazon comments often and will do what I can to better help you.Posted pictures, comment if you need more or anything else. I also want to update that the first thing I did when I got these monitors was run over to YouTube and play a Dead Pixel Color Test. This allowed me to check every pixel and confirmed that all 3 monitors were flawless.

I received my monitor very quickly, tracking said that it was supposed to be here on Monday, but I received it the Friday before.I received it with no damage done to the monitor or package. It comes with 1 VGA cord, and 1 DVI cord, as well as the power cord. It also has a detached stand on the bottom that just takes 1 screw that comes with the package. The stand itself is not flimsy however it is almost "springy". I use that word to describe it because I don't feel as if it is going to break easily or fall over, however if you bump your desk or the monitor itself the neck of the stand allows the monitor to wobble a bit. Again not in a dangerous about to fall over way, but in a way that says the stand may be a little cheap. That is the only negative thing i have to say about this monitor. I would give 4.5 stars if I could, because I intend to buy a multi-monitor stand soon, so the stock stand is not important to me. But alas I cannot give 5 stars, for the people who aren't in the market for a multi-monitor stand setup. The actual screen is perfect as far as I can tell. The color is wonderful and out classes both of the other (admittedly quite crappy) monitors I own. The monitor also has multiple preset color settings. I am using theater mode because it seems to have the best colors in my opinion. However all of these presets can be customized for your personal preference. One different thing, is this monitor works like a TV more in the sense that is has input choices. So instead of like some monitors where you just plug it into any input, and the monitor automatically accepts the input and shows it, you have to select VGA/DVI/HDMI input in reference to however you have it set up. This could possibly be used to have multiple inputs set up I believe, however I have not attempted it.TLDR: Great monitor for the price, but I don't love the stock stand that it comes with, it is a little "springy".

If you want your LCD to look like there's a lighting scrim over the screen, then this is for you. It's very grainy to my eye. Put a white background up or anything not completely black, and it looks like a permanently-fixed chemical photo of the image. There is no texture purity here. Watch a 1080p movie, and fleshtones shot with 35mm get this motionless grain added on top of the film's moving grain. The screen on my $299 Compaq laptop doesn't have that issue at all. Even if you like the grainy still photo look applied to everything for some reason, it reduces the effective resolution of fine 1080p textures and actually corrupts them. You are not seeing the actual textures in the image. The blacks are also not incredibly deep unless you turn down the brightness, and I'm not sure you actually have full control over that after all. It's decent in blacks rendition, though.I do have a little flashlighting in the lower left screen, but it's not too bad. The left side of the screen is slightly brighter than the right overall, though. It's a gradual progression across, as if the corner LEDs need to be adjusted. That option is not available, though. Also, as I type this the screen is wobbling visibly side to side. It's just not a very rigid stand. Pretty and simple to attach, but the stem could have been wider at the top where it connects to the monitor or used multiple connection points. So the notable aspects are indeed grayscale & color contrast, no dead pixels, and excellent viewing angles. With the glowing professional reviews for this display, however, I can only think they either didn't use it with bright images or other budget LCDs must be totally awful.Edit: According to someone on simhq.com, the grain is caused by the anti-glare coating. A plastic film that is rough and textured for scattering the light. Very different than, say, eyeglasses polarized treatments. I can confirm there isn't much glare, but I can tune glare out easily. And I can turn the lights off if that was a problem. This IPS AG coating is awful and will probably cause me to return this purchase.Edit: Overdrive is up, not down. Too high causes a different set of visual issues. Too low causes ghosting. 40-60 is the recommended range. It is probably not capable of rendering 60fps quite as artifact-free as a TN display.

I got two of these to replace my dying CRT. Here's what I was aiming for, and how they measure up.Resolution: My CRT had 1920x1440 resolution, for a total of 2,764,800 pixels. Anything less would be a downgrade. Two of these is 4,147,200 pixels, a nice upgrade.Affordability: I don't have the money for higher-resolution displays. Two of these are much cheaper ($153x2 = $306) than just one of the cheapest 2560x1440 screens ($389).Image quality: Everything should be shown accurately. As these are IPS displays, there's none of the weird color inversion at different angles that happens with TN displays. However, color calibration is necessary and there are still some issues.Quality issues:* The default settings are terrible. It feels like they were made by the marketing department so images would "pop out" with oversaturation and artificial sharpness. A monitor calibration site with test images helped me a lot. Make sure to set sharpness and "trace free" (controls ghosting/afterimage) as well (I set these options on both monitors to 30 and 40, respectively).* The backlighting has problems with dark images. There's a maroon tint around the screen edges. This isn't very distracting to me, but I imagine it would be problematic for color-critical work.* Brightness varies with viewing angle. Although colors are stable, I can easily see the brightness change when I move my head, especially vertically.* The stands are cheaply made. The screens wobble for a few seconds after my desk is jostled. Also, it would have been really nice if there was height adjustment.* One of them has a dead pixel. I usually don't notice it, even against a white background, but when I do see it it's annoying, like a speck of dust that just won't come off.Overall, it's a good budget monitor for general use. Once it's calibrated, colors are pretty accurate (except for dark images). The response time is also good (no noticeable input lag). However, if you have the money to spare, I suggest looking into something better.P.S. The "Persistent Perfection" referenced in my review's title is from Asus's slogan that comes up when the monitors turn on: "Inspiring Innovation. Persistent Perfection."

I have purchased the ASUS VS239H monitor and I am thrilled. By its name, the model I got appears to be a slightly different model from the VS239H-P model sold here on Amazon, but as I read in several reviews the name is different due to the region where it was released. I'm located in Europe. Anyway as far as I'm concerned I cannot see any difference in its specs to what is presented here on Amazon. It features D-SUB, DVI and HDMI inputs so that you can connect it to your computer and also to a gaming console. I got right out of the package a D-SUB cable as well as an DVI cable, though it would have been nice to get an HDMI cable too. But usually no HDMI cable is included with monitors, I can't understand why...I have connected the monitor to my MacBook Air (mid 2011) through a miniDisplay to HDMI adapter, and the screen came to life right away as advertised. I had to make no settings or calibration whatsoever to get a wonderful, crisp and vibrant picture. The image is sharp with high contrast ratio and the colors are just amazing, and wide viewing-angles are great as you would expect from IPS monitor. Actually, that was the reason I decided to purchase this model, because of its budget-friendly price for this entry-level IPS panel monitor. For those not aware of this, IPS monitors are used by photo editing professionals and the high-end monitors in this class cost $900+, price I was not willing to pay. Though I use the monitor mainly for office kind of work, and some home editing photos and videos, I chose this model because of its budget-friendly price for which I get pretty accurate colors and sharp image. Small size text looks sharp even if you're sitting close to the display (around 40cm).One downside is its limited ergonomics, you can tilt the screen and that's all you can do. But for common use that should be just enough. In conclusion, this monitors acts as advertised, and I can only recommend it.

I bought two of these from Amazon Warehouse deals. I use these primarily for editing photos. I'm not a gamer so don't know how they would perform for that. They are set up as a dual monitor system. The colors are incredible and the IPS feature is great! Connected with a older video card that supports dual monitors. (ATI Radeon 2400 PRO 256mb) Text looks sharp and clear. The colors, contrast, brightness, etc. look exactly the same on both screens. AWESOME!! The first thing I did was to make sure I had all the latest drivers for my video card and also reset the monitors to factory settings. This was necessary considering the monitors were sold used. By the way, they still looked new without any signs of use. No dead pixels or anything else. I've never had any issues buying from Warehouse deals. I also have another ASUS 23" monitor that's been in use for a few years. Still going strong. Love ASUS quality. I'm not a Pro photographer, but I'm impressed with the image quality these monitors produce. I'm sure I'll need to calibrate them but from what I've seen with some recent prints, they look good out of the box. Because of technology, the IPS feature has been made more affordable. If you do your research, these monitors may not be true IPS but they do the job very well for the price.

IPS, IPS, IPS! Yes it is a technology that is supposed to be much better than good old LCD and LED lit panels using standard technology. But you really get what you pay for. This IPS screen is nowhere near as good as my old (much more expensive) NEC 1990sx. The big problem with the Asus is that is looks no better when viewing a web page than a normal LCD or LED screen. If you move your head up and down or left and right from center you still get dimming and loss of resolution on a web page. You get less of that with a well done ips panel of several years ago.And you also do get some light bleed at the corners as compared to some more expensive models. This may be acceptable for most folks but it is not for me. I much prefer my old NEC monitor. The screen is nice and clear and colors are pretty good after some adjusting, so for those folks who are watching lots of videos, this may be a good fit. For folks who are dealing with text and websites, you may have to spend a lot more. And lastly the stand is a complete joke. Even typing on the desk will cause it to shake. Touch the bezel to make an adjustment is even worse since the thing is so light it moves and wobbles way too much. Also no height adjust so to get it at the right height you are probably going to have to pull out an old phone book adding to the wobble factor.

This monitor is nothing short of exceptional. The build quality is stellar and the screen quality is exceptional. The colors are extremely rich and vibrant on the 1080p screen. I use a lot of Photoshop, Premiere Pro, and Visual Studios and cannot wait to use this monitor for my projects. I had been using an OEM LCD screen which I considered to be a good screen; I only decided to get another display so I could have two screens for my coding projects. At first I ended up picking up a $109 Acer LCD display from CompUSA, but was very unimpressed with the display when I got home. I returned it and purchased this monitor for only $30 more and am SO GLAD I did. Trust me, you will be nothing short of amazed with this display. I have never seen such a beautiful monitor. I'm going to have to hide my wallet from myself or I'll end up buying another one just to replace what is an otherwise perfect OEM LCD display. For $144 this monitor is nothing short of a steal. My computer engineering roommate thought I bought a $500 monitor. The good: competitve price, Relarivelly small and light case, VESA mount. Comes with both VGA and dvi cable, good viewing angles, no flickering. The bad: I purchased 2 from Amazon Warehouse deals so they were open box items. Both still had the protective plastic film so I don't think they were used. However, both monitors did not have same colors - significant difference. In addition, One of them had backlight bleeding, the other one had 'golden' white on the right 1/3 of the screen. And while all of the above are usual QC issues, the biggest problem with this and many other IPS screens is the sparkling effect on bright colors. Since most websides have white backgrounds, browsing is almost a impossible for more than 10 minutes. Once you realize that sparkling effect (shimmering or grainyness) it impossible to don't see it at all time. My eyes felt like 'crossed' . The reason for this is the stupid AG coating (plastic film) that everyone is using these days.I have returned both units and after 10 days of constant reading and researching I have decided to order 2 of the new S line of Dell that does not have AG coat but is reflective as hell. I hope those are better for text reading. This is my second ASUS product. I had g53 gaming laptop with 1080p screen that also had extreme brightness and uneven backlight.

I recommend if you need something awesome but not super expensive. One problem i had was that after about two weeks, the monitors power button didnt want to work and it wouldnt go to sleep mode. Not sure what happened but I sent it back to Amazon and they got me a new one out very quickly, which has worked the three months since. Im not really very worried anyways, because this thing comes with a three year warranty so in the event something does happen, Asus will take care of it. All in all, a very solid product and a joy to watch movies on!

For $140, this is exactly what we needed. It gets five stars just for being affordable and working. Here's a couple nitpicky things I'm not crazy about:1. I don't much like how the screen attaches to the base out of the box. I've purchased a similar Viewsonic and Acer recently, and this one was the only one that needed to be screwed in. It also feels the most wobbly on the desk.2. I really don't like how the cable connectors are straight out the back instead of angling downwards. As someone that tends to shift my monitor around frequently, I feel like there's an increased likelihood of something getting bent or broken with the cables sticking out so far behind the monitor.I don't have an artist's eyes, but the screen looks good enough to me. Certainly good enough for normal use.

Wow, I did not expect this to be this awesome, even with the good reviews.I've hooked it up to a Macbook Pro via HDMI and to a Hackintosh and it worked great with both. It's beautiful... I'm sitting pretty close to it without fatigue... it's big enough that I can really set windows up next to each other more easily...I usually have 4-5 monitors going at once but they are all hand-me-downs. But having experienced this one, WOW, I want MORE! Seems like I could fulfill all my needs with 1-3 of these ;)The only annoyance is that when my Macbook Pro sleeps the screens, waking it up takes too long. Both screens go blank, do weird crap, then come back... music goes off for a second... it's, well, weird... It's like the monitor goes into such a deep sleep that the computer doesn't see it anymore and recalibrates on wake...I will look into this but the monitor is just so spectacular that this has become a minor inconvenience/gripe.Would highly recommend this monitor!

For its price and 22-inch size-- and considering that it's an IPS with HDMI port, full 1080 HD and LED-backlit-- this monitor can't be beat! The colors on the screen are unbelievably vibrant right out of the box! I did not even have to do a lot of tweaking to adjust the colors. And the viewing angle is excellent! Pictures on the screen do not show muted intensity when viewed at an angle other than the customary front position. The physical construction of the monitor seems solid, even when the base footprint is not as large as I expected. Asus also packaged this product very professionally and sent to me on time. This is my first Asus product and, needless to say, I am very much impressed! I highly recommend this product!

I bought this model of monitor a little over a year ago, and I've been very happy with it. Yes, the stand is wobbly, but that has been more than made-up for by the high quality in every other respect (if you have your own stand / frame, then that shortcoming doesn't matter anyway). I'm a casual user, not a graphic designer, so you should take that into account when weighing my opinion. When I started shopping for another monitor recently, for a desktop system I'm assembling, I started to look into the updated offerings, but came back to this, and ordered the exact same monitor this time around, because it has served me well so-far.

I bought this monitor to place it next to my 20 inch iMac. First let me tell you that the monitor arrive on time and in perfect conditions it was very easy to put together no even need an screw driver. It looks really nice with a black piano finish and silver Asus logo. The size of it is also very nice not to big no too small perfect to go with the size of the iMac. the stand is not high adjustable so to be at the same level that the iMac I use an Vesa mount arm.Now the performance, the response time is perfect for my use the motion is really smooth in most of the cases. The backlight is very nice spread and even on dark places I cant see any distracting backlight bleeding only a little bit on the lower right corner when looked at extreme angles. And now the colors the part where I think I'm going to help a bit, out of the box looks really nice but it doesn't match the iMac colors at all even after following the calibration software built in the OSX so here are my settings to do the magic.Splendid mode: scenery modeColor:Brightness: 100Contrast: 75Saturation: 46Skin tone: naturalSmart View: offColor Temp: User mode R: 80 G: 87 B: 88Sharpness: 50Trace Free: 60ASCR: offThats the closes you are gonna get and the colors are a bit more deep on the mac panel impossible to match off course maybe with a color calibrater you can but if you are happy with my settings like I'm you can safe 100+ dollars otherwise go for spider3 which after my research seems to be the best color calibrator option.
