Installed two months ago.
Very disappointed
Unless you're doing crazy work on big files doubt you will ever notice the difference.
Performance impeccable. Fonctionnement sans faille.
Recommandé.
If you are looking for the best performance, or the best price-performance ratio look at other manufacturers; the SX8200 Pro has been changed and no longer performs as well as its reviews say it does.
If you are looking for the cheapest SSD this one is far from it.
If you are looking for an honest company, sadly you'll need to look elsewhere in this case.
ADATA is participating in dishonest business practices, this product is NOT the same one that has been provided to reviewers over the last year or so. Specifically ADATA sent a FASTER SSD to online reviewers (with the SM2262EN controller) who then posted their faster performance times and positive reviews... but disturbingly ADATA is producing and selling slower SSDs with different cheaper, slower components (SM2262G controllers) to their customers without advising them of this change. I feel duped, and I don't want any of you to feel this way.
My m.2 SSD arrived with the slower SM2262G controller, and its performance does not stand up to previous online reviews of this product.
For an m.2 SSD of this type it is acceptable performance, but not at a its premium price. Additionally, dishonest business practices like this should not be supported.
Multiple Amazon and other online review benchmarks back this information up, as do my own tests (pictures posted, Ryzen 3600XT w MSI B550 mobo, 16GB 3600/16 RAM). Shame on ADATA. I recommend Amazon remove their product unless they honestly post the change in SSD components and performance.
I did some research and discovered that ADATA has allegedly made some silent changes in controllers used. ADATA had specified to a reviewer that controller performance should be identical to the previous controller. Reviewers have been producing results that say otherwise. The photo included shows the most recent drive's performance compared to my other SX8200 Pro 2TB. For contrast, I removed it and threw in a Toshiba XG6 to rule out the M.2 slot or configuration as being issues. As can be seen in the photo, the XG6 benchmarked well.
I liked ADATA. I've purchased several of their SSDs. This kinda turns me off to them, now. Looks like I'll be adding more Samsung and Crucial drives to my household.
Acronis, on the other hand, was freemium garbage. From the multi step process of getting a key from Adata and a serial number from Acronis, to the buggy Acronis OEM installer, it was too much of a nuisance for some half locked freemium software
I ended purchasing some full featured utility software from another company that worked well with zero hassles.
Max read of ~1800, max write of ~2000.
An older ssd in the same slot easily outperforms it.
Maybe I got a defective one.
Overall I'm really glad I didn't do the sheep thing and just buy a Samsung drive, because those are stupid expensive and perform almost entirely the same "in the real world use" to this drive. I don't copy huge 15TV videos for editing, I just game. So it was a toss up between this XPG SX8200 or the Intel 660p, and for a little extra cash this drive has slightly better performance.
I'll update my review if anything goes wrong with this 2TB model, but so far I've already installed 285GB worth of games and been playing them for about 5 days without issue. I recommend this product!
While ADATA's support did respond in a timely manner, their suggestions were in a form letter written to cover a wide variety of products not related to this drive. I don't think a human read my ticket. It seems completely automated. Useless. No firmware update is available, and the process of product registration and Acronis authorization is needlessly cumbersome.
My advice: Pay the extra $30 or so to get a better brand. If you do decide to buy this drive, back up everything on it, often. And, before installation, write down all numbers on the on-card label. You will need to type in a plethora of numbers during registration/authorization, and it is not clear which of the many numbers on the card and/or box are the ones to which they are referring.
Good:
- it's fast, about as fast as you're going to get on PCI-E 3.0.
- priced well.
Bad:
- far too many temp sensors (6 of them) with no obvious one being the one you should pay attention to.
- the drive runs very hot.
I originally had it under my GPU when I was cloning my Mushkin Pilot Windows install to it, and it was hitting low 80s on the hottest sensor. I figured it was being choked of air since it was under my GPU (previous HP EX950 had no issues, though) but I moved it to the top slot (between my CPU and GPU) when I was done cloning and the temps are really about the same, and I don't have bad case airflow.
the value of it kind of dwindles when you factor in the price of adding a heatsink, but it's also nearly twice as fast on writes as my Pilot so not too upset with it.
Would have went with a second HP EX950 but it was OOS so I took a chance on this, not too upset other than the temperature woes.
