I can use all the guitar chord shapes (although obviously they're a fourth up in pitch) so it was immediately playable and usable.
The quality is pretty good. It isn't a high end instrument and that's apparent, but it is better than I expected for the price. There are no dead frets or sharp fret ends and the intonation is pretty good for such a short scale.
The tuners are fine, though not brilliant, and the neck is very playable.
The only downside is the supplied strings. They are not great, but they are usable.
If you are looking for a great little instrument for a bit of fun or to add to your collection, you probably won't regret getting one of these.
I decided to purchase the Yamaha Guitalele to give it a try. I have loved the little instruments ever since taking it out of the box. It is beside me on the settee always and it is played many times each day. It has come to the point where I now prefer to play the guitalele than my full size guitar. It’s so light and comfortable to play and can be quickly grabbed when there are adverts on the tv!.
I have had the guitalele for a few years now and would say that it is by far one of the best purchases I have ever made. Since buying the guitalele I have bought two different sizes of ukulele too, and very pleased with these also.
Unfortunately the neck was almost as narrow as my soprano Ukulele but with two extra strings squeezed on which made fingering difficult for someone who is 6 feet two inches tall. I can play the soprano Ukulele but the narrow spacing of the Guitalele strings beat me.
Because of this I had to return it to Amazon but this in no way reflects on the instrument which I would recommend it to anyone that can finger it and very well done Yamaha.
It's worth replacing the strings with a decent classical set, but apart from that the only thing I can find wrong with it are a few not very noticeable smears of glue, but frankly for the price that's not really a worry. The tuners are good and the frets are nicely finished, no pointy fret ends in sight.
It's also a shame it doesn't come with a pre-installed strap button, but having peered inside the thing I can see there is a tail block, so I'll probably just install one myself.
It's not the easiest thing in the world to play due to it's size, so I wouldn't recommend this as a first instrument for an adult beginner, but it's lots of fun for guitarists wanting something small enough to carry around, or for steel string players who fancy dabbling in nylon without breaking the bank.
- The guitar looks very nice, in terms of the color and the style.
- I usually play a full sized steel string acoustic guitar myself, so this one sounds very quiet, almost muffled. I believe that's more due to the smaller size and the nylon strings than because of the quality.
- The quality is pretty much what you'd expect from a beginner guitar in this price range. It's fine for a beginner.
- It's actually very easy to play, which is also great for a beginner. The strings are very easy to push and hold down.
- The items included in the bundle are also fine. The tuner is easy to clip on and use. The case is relatively simple and cheap, but it serves the purpose.
Overall, I'm happy with purchase. It's not the best guitar I've ever seen, but it's perfect for a young beginner.
I got the 3/4 size and it is great for my smaller (5'2") frame. It came with all the accessories noted and the gig bag was made for a 3/4 size guitar and fit perfectly.
Oh and there are instructional video included with Prime, so I'm watching one of those.
Anyway, size wise I think we did right. This guitar is the perfect size for her. A little big because she is on the small side for her age. The 3/4 would have been too big. My son has trouble with it. He is also smaller. 44" 38 lb just turned 7. But works as he can grow in over the year and it should be fine. It would take my daughter 3 years to grow in.
As for this specific guitar. The nylon surprisingly did not ruin the sound. Its softer on her fingers. She loves this. My wife has a pink guitar for her to learn on. 3/4 so she could. My daughter who will NEVER choose anything over the link version will not let anyone touch her Yamaha. And won't trade to try mommies pink one. The sound is great. I bought myself a $350 guitar to learn on. The yamaha is a quieter version. Mine is a full size dreadnought. Barely takes a strum to full the room. The yamaha can fill the room or be gental. The overall sound is not as loud but the quality is top notch. And as a beginner I found this guitar the easiest to tune. The this is in the budget dont hesitate. If I had spent less on a 3/4 that was too big or even a cheaper half guitar she would have put it down already. Yamaha makes a great product and this won't let you down.
The guitar itself is a very nice starter for anyone who wants to learn classical. The case is well made and will serve well for years. The accessories are nice.
Be advised that the case is not fitted to the guitar. For me that is not a major thing.
The size is good and the string action is fine.
The sound is okay, but it is a beginner guitar.
The auto tuner is a nice touch.
The directions on the tuner are a bit of a joke. There did not seem to be an English speaking technical writer involved. I would not expect most children to be able to decipher. You will likely have to teach your child how to use the tuner.
Puede Austin Bazzar enviarme tambien un HARD CASE para esa guitarra y pagare la diferencia de precios como corresponde. Gracias por la buena comprension. Mario Olea
Much too small for an adult's hands, though.
We bought this for our 2 year after he told us he'd like a guitar. It's a bit delicate and definitely large for a 2 year old. We might have been better off with a plastic toy that he can throw around. But we keep it on the sofa and he enjoys strumming the strings and especially likes dancing to the off key strumming from mommy and daddy.
Overall, we're very happy with this purchase and think our son will grow into for the next several years.
