The print quality and speed are top notch. I have no issues there, and I had no issues with connectivity either, as one person mentioned having. Setup is a lot easier with many other printers, this having a fairly old school interface, but it's nothing out of the ordinary.
The form factor and size are excellent, and I like the fact that the prints are delivered inside the footprint of the machine.
This is clearly a small business oriented printer, being monochrome and laser (businesses really only need black and white, and want to print as cheaply and reliably as possible, of course). But businesses also often have invoices or other printing jobs that require double sided printing. And this model DOES 2-sided prints, but not auto 2-sided printing. You have to flip the page, which would make me not buy it for my business right out of the gate. For the segment of people I believe this is aimed at, this is an odd choice.
Same goes for scanning and copying. Only single sided. Scanning, this makes sense. But both printing and copying should be auto double sided, based on what I believe is the segment of customers being aimed at with this product.
Printers by other manufacturers in this same class and price range have these features, and competitively priced toner. If Xerox wants to compete at this level of the market, I would recommend adding these features in future iterations of this class.
The machine itself is fairly light for a laser, I've definitely lugged around much heftier laser printers of similar size around in the past. The design is overall pretty utilitarian and not really exciting to me. Construction feels okay, neither the most sturdy looking/feeling printer I've come across nor the cheapest. I feel like the scanner lid is not going to be the most durable part of it but as long as it isn't handled roughly I can't see it actually becoming a problem. The actual hardware interface on the printer is pretty disappointing though, yes it gets the job done but doing any kind of administrative work on it is just a pain in the neck with it's tiny text based LCD which is really only good for quickly checking the status. I honestly would have expected even a small graphical display on a printer like this these days.
Print quality is excellent for the cost of the printer, but feels slightly slow as I have used printers that cost less that produce prints faster. When I say that I don't mean to imply it's slow, it's still faster than anybody will care for if used in an appropriate environment like home or small office. I really don't have any issues with the print quality, as I expect from a laser text is particularly sharp even at small sizes while images definitely are not a strong suit here giving somewhat banded results for me particularly when compared to inkjet. That being said typical business graphics do come out quite well but don't expect anything photographic. I think it's important to mention that I found that the included toner in the box is, as is almost always the case, a starter cartridge *however* I have seen starter cartridges rated at as little as 500 pages included with printers in this price range but Epson claims 1000 pages here which is relatively generous. The scanner is not very fast, but I've found it completely usable for scanning documents and it having an ADF is definitely a nice touch that more than makes up for the scanning speed.
Connectivity is good, if not pretty much expected for any printer model in this class in 2019. USB, Ethernet and Wifi (including Wifi Direct, though I have never actually needed to use this) are all supported out of the box though the Ethernet connection is limited to 100Mbps. I always use Ethernet for my printers so I chose that method. Given most documents one would send to a mono laser tend not to be huge the 100Mbps connection isn't really a big deal but I still wish we'd see more use of pretty commonplace gigabit ethernet adapters in printers especially since I've seen it offered in similar printers already. Mobile printing does work, via Mopria (on the Play store, free).
As is par for the course these days with most printer manufacturers, the supporting software for the printer from Epson is rather ugly, somewhat obtuse in function and just feels old fashioned. The good news is that you don't really need to look at it much after you've set the printer up, and for what it's worth the driver does do it's job and give you enough control over what's going on.
Overall, I'm happy with the overall performance and feature set for the relatively low price for a laser multi-function particularly one that has a reasonable starter toner included. I wish it was a little more user friendly in terms of having a (way) better LCD display on it, which is really the one thing that really stands out to me as something that bugs me.
Prints come out fast and are laser sharp. As a bw printer, it ticks the, "crisp text" box that is about as much as I ask for in terms of print quality. This connected to my computer easily and effortlessly - I would be surprised if anyone had any issues with this.
The scanner works very well and the ADF didn't hiccup when scanning through a stack of hole punched paper. It's not completely jam-proof and putting through some more... weathered... invoices managed to choke up the B205. That being said, it was easy enough to take out the paper without damaging the source file and honestly, the big Xerox at work also has similar problems occasionally. I like the ability to scan to email directly and find it really useful.
This is an excellent laser printer that is well suited for a small office. It's fast, sharp and the toner is economical.
The printing from iPad, smartphone and laptop was seamless.
The quality of the prints depends on the quality of the paper and the quality print settings.
Overall excellent product.
Thanks Xerox for making such a great all in one printer.
Almost immediately the Xerox started to do the same thing. I upgraded drivers. I changed operating systems. I spent hours on the phone with Apple. I finally found Xerox's number and called for tech support.
Agent 1: I can't give you tech support. You need to talk to Customer Service to register your printer.
Agent 2: Oh, I see you need to register your printer.
I called back.
Agent 3: I see your printer is registered with us.
Me: Really? The last two agents said I needed to register it.
Agent 3:
Me: Great! I need tech support. It prints dozens of pages of gibberish.
Agent 3: I can't give you tech support. There's a problem with your registration. It doesn't show the warranty.
Me: Okay, I'll send you the receipt.
Agent 3: You need to fax it.
Me: Fax? I haven't had a fax machine since the 80s. Where can I email it?
Agent 3: It has to be faxed. You see, it's a legal document, so you can't email it.
Me: A legal document? It's a receipt.
Agent 3: It's a legal document so it needs to be faxed.
Me: I'm a lawyer. I email legal documents all the time.
Agent 3: Fax.
Me: I don't have a fax. Are you telling me I can't get warranty support for this printer if I don't buy a fax machine first?
Agent 3: Fax. Do you want the number?
Me: Is this a joke? Or a way for Xerox to avoid servicing its products?
Agent 3: Fax.
Me: Because I don't have a fax and I won't get one.
Agent 3:
Me:
More than an hour with this nonsense and I still have no working printer. But I do have a very large collection of mostly blank pieces of paper with 1-4 lines of gibberish on them. I should get a puppy and use them to house train it.
But print and scanning quality are good.
