I have over 100TB of these drives installed in NAS towers. They have worked awesome. I have precleared every drive and I haven't had a single drive arrive with issues. While I have heard that some have I haven't had any issues. These drives are fast and most of my applications are used with unRaid and live their lives streaming music and movies. We are trying the new WD RED in our latest QNAP as recommended. There might be something to the β€œIntelliPower” RPM management as the drives seem faster than the normal 5400. Purely subjective while comparing them to a similar NAS with 5400 PRM WD drives. So far so good (2 months)...

Hard drives came with their individual boxes crushed. Looks like someone at the warehouse dropped some kind of beam or pole on a line of hard drives. The package looked had normal wear on it so this had to happen before they were packed. Installed and working for now. Lets see how long they last

This device works on Buffalo NAS PRO LINK DUO unlike the WD black which is not recognized by Buffalo NASDEVICES. Setup was as easy as the NAS immediately initialized the HDD. Definitely recommended for use onBUFFALO NAS . I have had problems finding the correct type as the recommended list on Buffalo site states only WD GREEN EARX which is obsolete. The WD RED is a relief to users like me in search of new model HDD and not having to stick to old models. Thanks WD

Installed one of these in a Synology 212j works fantastic, across a gigabit network get 320mbits/sec transfer rate on wired devices. Installed the Plex software on the Synology and have roku on both tvs in the house and now I have my own personal movies streaming across my network! Will purchase another for raid 1 setup later.

I had just about given up on Western Digital due to early failures of both the Green and Black drives. These drives put WD back in the running!Drives run cool, go into hibernation, and are designed for a NAS. I currently run these 2 drives as Raid 1 (mirrored) in the Dlink 325 NAS enclosure and could not be happier.The average mean time between failure impressed me and the warrenty. I highly recommend these drives and will update this review as they age.

installed into my 5-bay Qnap. So far so good. I have been leaving the NAS on 24/7 for a week now without any issues.Time will tell in terms of stability. I will try to remember to update this in a month on how it's doing.Update, 1/30/13:Been running 24x7 in the NAS since dec2012. No hiccups. Interestingly, its average temp is 32 celsius, which is a good 2 degrees cooler than the adjacent hitachi drives. Hoping for a price drop now, so I can pick up some more!

Bought this drive to serve as parity drive in a unRAID system, the drive runs reasonably quietly and the internal temperatures have not topped more than 40 degrees centigrade. While others have remarked on `good value for money', I still believe `we' the customers pay a high price for hard drives. Yes and the floods in Thailand are over, so why are still paying inflated prices? My overall rating here, in this instance, has not taken price into consideration. Over all I like this unit, and it is designed with NAS storage in mind, considering the riggers and other issues which kill of other drives - so far so good.

Perhaps it was just bad luck and some sour grapes. Since 2 HDDs in my NAS crashed within 2 hours of each other, I have lost all of my data. It's my own fault for not backing that up, (was using 1 disk fault tolerance and thought it would be enough) but I've never seen such a thing with any hard drives I have ever owned before. Very disappointed and dissatisfied.

This drive fits neatly into the extra drive bay in most tower computers, adding three terabytes of extra space. It simply plugs in, powers up fine, and is automatically recognized by the system. I formatted it and copied all my files from Drive C to this new drive D. I use it as drive D as file storage only, keeping just the Windows operating system and applications on the original C drive. Doing it this way means if my computer crashes and the C drive needs to be reformatted, none of my files on Drive D are lost.
