Order this item 3 days ago and just now getting shipping confirmation. Expected delivery date posted as 7 days from now. Being shipped USPD. No indication of where the product is coming from. NOT impressive. Before starting this review and not having even seen the product, I decided two give it a product rating of three stars. Changed my mind and went back to lower its rating to 2 stars.Western Digital makes good product and I expect the drive will work fine for years. But, no matter how good the product is, this experience with Amazon has left a bad impression.This is only the second time I have done business with Amazon, but I expect it is the last.

the title said it all. I was surprised it was so quiet; I can barely hear it! seemed a little faster than the drive it replaced. This was a bit pricey for the drive size, but then again this is an out-dated technology so that's understandable.

Purchased this drive to replace a WD 320 PATA HD which lasted only a year and a half. Unfortunately was faced with the blue screen of death that made the drive unrecoverable. Hope this unit lasts a lot longer than 18 months. All of my other drives are Seagate some of which I have had a long time and are reliable. Only reason I purchased this drive was that Seagate PATA or IDE drives were unavailable from Amazon. Judging from all the other postive reviews, I sincerely hope that I am wrong. Otherwise, very quiet and fast. How long it will last is a good guess.

The computer this drive went into is an older computer, Pentium 4, 2.0 processor. Primary use is for the kids. Hey, if they mess it up it's no biggy. Anyway, the drive it replaced was a Maxtor 20g, yep 20 gig, not much space these days. The Maxtor was a rather noisy thing too. We used Acronis to copy the old drive to the new drive. The cloning was a snap. Since the install we have had no issues with the WD drive. I do say a great drive, more space, it's quieter than the Maxtor and faster. A refreshing upgrade. I would recommend it and Acronis for the cloning.

Decent priced PATA's are getting hard to find. SATA drives are comparably much cheaper. Excellent hard drive to replace an original. Have been using it for several months now and have had no problems.It did not come with an installation disk and I had a hard time to get the computer to recognize the drive. Finally I resorted to Sys C: and it worked, even though the drive had not been recognized. After that it was easy to boot from the XP installation disk in the CD ROM drive.

The drive was very easy to install. My system recognized the size and drive immediately upon powering on the system. Western Digital is a company I have purchased many products from over the years and they make a very high quality product.

I am most pleased with this 320 GB PATA/IDE (40 pin connection) for my older Desktop PC! Very Quiet! Runs the COOLEST of 2 other internal and 2 external hard drives on my system! I use this Drive as my Boot Drive.I have never seen it hotter than 86 to 87 degrees F. It has all the modern disc drive features, including a Self Check to let you know it is healthy.My other two internal 1 inch by 3.5 inch drives are both SATA. The brand new WDC WD10EARS 1TB drive is also quiet running, but has gotten only 4 or 5 degrees hotter than the 320 GB IDE. An older WDC WD1200JD disc that has been in operation for 16 months on the same PC and is also SATA, gets 10 degrees hotter than the 320 GB PATA/IDE disc. One of my older external drives is a 500GB SimplTech USB drive that runs up to 90 degrees, and is more than whisper quiet. It uses a Hitachi HDP725050GLA360, which is probably an original IBM design (Hitachi bought IBM Disc Drive Div. a few years back). If you need an IDE/Parallel ATA disc for an older PC, you cannot go wrong with the WD3200AAJB in my humble opinion! If your system can boot from a SATA Disc drive, get the biggest one you can afford and get one that's at least 300 SATA. Most are Gigabyte for gigabyte cheaper than IDE/PATAand you can find relatively inexpensive SATA PC cards that caan handle from 2 to 4 discs. There are several around the 1 Terabyte size for under $100 now on the market.Why? Fast with only 4.2 seek, 7200 rpm, QUIET, and COOL running. Having had 2 very old hard drives, in different computers, die within 30 days of each other I find it hard to trust any hard drive especially since these are the old tech IDE drives and you don't get a lot of choices.I did lose some data but most of my data had been backed up.ALWAYS DO FREQUENT BACKUPS!!!I will clone my drives with SATA USB external hard drives and have an adapter to be able to use it in my old computer along with frequent Document Files backups on another external HD. This is much cheaper than building another computer when the current one works so well!I also recommend you allow this HD its own power cord without sharing it. I originally had it sharing power and the HD was not functioning properly after 3 months.

Excellent replacement drive for an older machine. Installed easily, runs quiet, and performs exactly as described by the manufacturer. A good partitioning program was necessary to set up the drive for my use. (I used Partition Magic 8). Drive configuration went flawlessly. I recommend this product without reservation.

As usual service and price great at Amazon. The first hard drive worked so well I purchased another. I duplicated the hard drive on my PC to the new WD hard drive as a secure backup should the main hard drive fail. For a replacement, backup or just a second hard drive you can't go wrong with this one.

I had trouble with this drive. I installed it and tried to clone my smaller drive to it but it never took. It just froze. Well I have not been able to use it, so I really didn't like it.

Remarkable what a new harddrive does to a computer. It works now so I am happy. The harddrive works like a harddrive. As long as it works, I am cool. In short, everything is working fine.

Great Drive, bought this one to replace a 9 y/o 40 GB version, it was still running OK, started making alittle too much noise. Checked it with diagnostic software, it was fine. Better safe then sorry. Installed the new drive as Slave, Used Acronis software for Western Digital to transfer everything over to new drive. Configured as Master and presto... Fast, clean, 4Xs bigger, installed without even a hic-cup. Love WD, great customer service if needed and no, I don't work for Western Digital. If you are looking to upgrade an older machine this is a good choice.

the drive works fine i tried to use this hard drive to replace an ailing one i used this ancronis program which came from western digital and i could never get my boot sector to transfer so i guess i have backup copy .THIS SOFTWARE IS JUNK

Have had no problems with either of the two HD's I bought. You can't buy this type HD (ATA) in computer stores anymore. Western Digital brand drives have a reputation for very high quality and reliability.

Item # B000VRZ7PA Western Digital Caviar Blue PATA Hard Drive WD1600AAJBI ordered this through Amazon Market Place, because by the time I was ready to order it, Amazon was sold-out for the time being. Now it's re-stocked and I'm seriously considering ordering another. Unlike the display pages, this unit is bulk-OEM which came in a plasti-foil/mylar sealed wrapper. (no directions)The re-seller did an excellent job bubble-wrapping it for shipping and when I contacted them about specifications, they were helpful and informative. Pricing was competitive with Amazon's own department. This drive is a little noisier than my original drive, which featured a peculiar rubber sheath. But this little winder spins out a fast 7200 RPM, and the noise isn't anything approaching noise from the power-supply cooling fan.The Western Digital web-site features full specifications pages which are model specific. And there's a frequently asked questions (FAQ) menu with lots of information, some of which may apply to your needs. They also illustrated precisely the jumper settings configuration table I was looking for.If you're installing an Operating System, (this installation was Windows XP) your installation disk will perform the necessary format. Because mine was XP, it had the option of selecting either FAT-32 file system (backwards compatible Windows 95-98) or NTFS file system, which is upwards compatible with Windows Vista & Windows 7, in case you need to network and share files.

Now that I have gotten through the setup process the drive is excellent and somewhat faster than the previous boot drive and does not change system noise level.The setup difficulties were because the usual standalone utilities would not recognize the drive. Both WD utilities and Windows 98 boot disk to run FDisk failed until the drive was formatted under W2K. I was then doing an image copy of the old C: drive (boot partition) to the drive. I learned the hard way that from W2K on Windows stores the drive letter of the page file in the registry and the drive letter in the MBR (Master Boot Record) of the disk.The only way to make this the C: drive (to match the registry) was to format the partition under W2K using next available letter, then do the stand alone image copy from the old C: drive, then make the new drive the only hard drive in the machine and run standalone FDisk MBR to build a new MBR with the C: drive letter.If you are just adding a second drive, you will not have these problems. Just connect it as the slave and be sure the original drive is set as Master (see jumpers on back of drive), boot your operating system, right click 'My Computer', choose Manage, go to Disk Management and partition and format the drive as you want.

I needed more HDD space on my old computer, so I went with WD. I liked the software that came with it ( downloaded on there site ) to clone your old HDD worked great. Easy install, I have had it in for about 3 weeks works great.
