The 640 gig SADA hard drive is being used in an Antec MX-100 3.5" USB Aluminum Enclosure and all is working fine so far. I had a large amount of data to transfer initially so I connected it internally on the motherboard for that. Afterwards, I just power it up when needed. I have had no problems so far. The drive is OEM so don't expect cables, disks, etc.

I had this drive installed in a desktop until a couple of weeks ago when I suddenly got a drive read error. Pulled the drive and it sounds like it's full of sand. Platter self-destructed spectacularly with no warning. It's under warranty, but I wonder what the next drive will do. At least I don't have to worry about security of info on the drive when I send it in. The drive was only about 8 months old. Very disappointed.

I bought this drive from NewEgg because it was marketed as quiet. It's quiet compared to standard drives but compared to the Samsung SP2004C drives I own this is very noisy.I bought two of these within the past year. They didn't even last a year. The first one started out Ok so I bought a second one, it was a good price for 500GB. Well, there is a reason they're cheap, because they are bad drives.I've been using computers since I was 12. I'm 28 now, and these are the first drives that have died on me in all that time, (five systems and upgrades later). I always treat the drives very well, avoiding hard resets and shut downs and such. I'm careful, yet despite that both drives I bought failed.The second one was never quite right, always a delay when accessing data. That one died first. The first one, which I thought was good, died a couple months later. I'm really disgusted with Western Digital. I used to buy only WD because I was satisfied with their drives, especially the 80 GB Caviar.After this I will be switching to Samsung. The Samsung drives I have bought are quiet and reliable with no quirks. In addition, after the drive died I found my computer is responding better and is faster. Seems the drives were causing some type of lag in my system.Western Digital seems to be going downhill fast. Avoid these drives and go with Samsung or Seagate with the five year warranty.

You may have to know someone to get this working. Doesn't come with the needed cable to the mother board.Luckily I knew someone that works on PCs and so he let me have an extra cable that I needed to get this HD working.OH-this is not replacing a hardrive ... which in that case the cable from the old HD could be used.

Linux saw the 500GB with out any problem. Windows 2K only sees 128GB. If you want one large partition you will need Windows XP SP2 or above, so I've been told.

Western Digital WD6400AAKS WD Caviar SE16 SATA Internal Hard Drive, 640 GB, 3 Gb/s, 16 MB Cache, 7200 RPM Large size (640 GB), fast and ultra quiet at a great price. Transferred my PC files to the new disk in about an hour, and then moved the old disk to an external USB case (under twenty dollars) for a portable backup. As mentioned, this is a bare bones disk (no SATA cable, instruction manual, transfer software) that is perfect as a replacement drive.** Update 1 January 2009: Disk contiunes to work fine. Very quiet. Great purchase.

The hard drive worked great I had to go online to get the product manuals and purchase the cables since it is a SATA II drive and my computer supports SATA I it took me several hours to make it work but once I figured out how to slow down the drive with the jumper which was not supplied it was a plug and play process. Make sure you know your system specifications before you order and get the needed cables and jumper & Screws all at once.

This is a good harddrive, It doesn't make alot of noice and the OEM packaging was good. The HDD comes in a box with two HDD plastic holders. When you open the box it basically looks as if two pastic hands are holding the harddrive in order to reduce heavy handling during shipping. I live on a small island in the Caribbean so I've done some blind shipping in order to get my hands on this harddrive. Everything went well so I have no complaints up until now. I would trully recommend this harddrive at it's current pricepoint.

Good price. Drive works as expected in my Mac. Amazon is the only service I know that provides free shipping (on selected items over $25) to Hawaii, and that makes it my favorite place to buy when the price is right.

I knew I was ordering an OEM but after installing the HD I found a lot of files and pictures that did not belong to me.(guess from the previous owner) For some reason the drive was not wiped clean before shipping to me. Otherwise the drive is running fine I find it to be quiet. You do need to order a sata cable along with the drive (does not come with one) which I did. Now I had to reinstall XP all over again cause I want a clean computer.

The Western Digital Hard Drive works great for backing up, using different OS's can't have enough drive space and works with BlackX ....just put in and take it out and if needed another put another one in.And Thanx, to Amazon which makes it so easy to buy and has so many selections of {{EveryThing}} from the confront of home.....thumbs up Amazon.

I purchased this product to replace an aging drive which was beginning to fail. Failed seek test and bad sectors was suspected of the OLD drive. Installed this drive and copied all partitions using partition magic 8.0Removed the old drive and booted right up. No missing data.Using the drive, I see a huge increase it productivity and storage space.Would I by this drive again. YES in a Heart Beat.

As usual Western Digital Hard Drives are great. This drive lives up to the promise. Since it is in OEM configuration it must be initialized, but this is easy to accomplish with most versions of Windows.

Bought 2 of these drive and put them in a Linksys NAS200. They have been working now for over a week and seems to be running great so far. For the money these drives are well worth the money.

The PC showed up in about 5 days and the monitor about 3 days after that. Both worked just fine out of the box. Wish the video card had a DVI outlet. Will have to buy such a card, and then see if I need to buy a bigger power supply. Just be aware of those types of limitations when buying a refurbished PC.

this is the largest 2-platter WD drive (important to me for reduced heat etc)...works great so farAmazon beat the price of the major online computer seller i usually use, and also had superior packaging for shipment in my opinionI ordered it on a Friday, and it was at my door on Monday...in the first week of december no less...great job!

Drive performs very well and runs quiet. The WD website has good helps for installation and configuration. Buy a SATA drive cable or make sure you have an extra one already.

This product is perfect if you are replacing a drive. However, if it is a new drive or an additional drive, be sure to order the connecting cable to go along with it. Either way, my desktop is back up and running better than it has in 2 years now.
