Works great. My only problem is that I haven't found anything out there to really push it. I put all my games like WoW and the Old Republic to their highest settings. It's been a year and I'm still happy with it. Still going strong bought more.

WAS NOT 500GB- WAS ONLY 465 GB - WHERE IS THE OTHER 35 GB's ? IN THE MAIL ? HARD DRIVE CRASHED UNREPAIRABLE - WENT TO WAL MART BOUGHT ONTHER ONE THIS ONE HAS A WARRENTY - THIS VENDER OUGHT TO BE TARRED,FEATHERED, SET OUTSIDE IN THE COLD NAKED - I WILL NOT RECOMEND NOR BUY FROM THIS VENDER AGAIN - WILL EVEN THINK TWICE ABOUT USING AMAZON AGAIN - I LOST $60 ON THIS DEAL .

My old hard drive died on an old HP computer. Luckily it didn't go before I could back it up. I looked around and decided to buy this hard drive and I am glad I did. It installed easily and is larger and better than than my original. I now have a dual boot of Windows 7 and Windows 8 and both have been running great. I use this computer as an entertainment computer hooked up to my HDTV. Great price...great value.

Set this up as a RAID 1 with my existing drive which is aging and almost out of capacity. Now I have a little piece of mind and redundancy. Easy install, good price, fast shipping.

I would echo what many others have said... When bought from Amazon, it comes w/almost NO packing materials to protect it. I got just over 2 years from it before it died (after 2 days of making really loud sounds for no obvious reason at the time.) That's better than the folks who got less than 6 months, but not much consolation when you lose everything, have spent the money, and are having to start over...again. I will be looking elsewhere - both store AND brand to replace this WD replacement.

This Western Digital Hard drive is a replacement for my main drive. This drive is easy to install and is everything I expected. Western Digital makes the best Hard Drives, in the World bar none. The drive is fast and quiet as Western Digital promised, in their product specification. I would recommend this drive to everybody..

Not much to say except it hasn't failed, or developed and bad sectors. I haven't ran HDTune on it yet. Might do that later.

I can't really say I hate it or love it because I got the wrong item and it doesn't fit properly in my computer. There was no mention on your site of the size of this item and I wrongly assumed that they all come in 3.5". Now I can't even use it.

Ordered two of these. Cloned my system drive to one of them and made it my new system drive. A few days later had some problems so I ran checkdisk - bad clusters. Am returning it. The other drive seems to be working OK (so far). Like the title says - buying drives is a real crapshoot - you roll the dice and take your chances.

We have a Windows XP PC with 250GB hard drive that was getting full with photos and videos. We therefore ordered this inexpensive upgrade to triple the capacity to 750GB total. We ordered the same Western Digital Caviar Blue hard drive as the original since our old drive has been quite reliable over the past 4 years. [Western Digital also makes Green drives that are cooler and quieter, but supposedly not so reliable; and Black drives for gaming performance that we didn't need.] The new 500GB hard drive, as stated, is "bare". That means 2 cables are needed along with it - a data cable, and a power cable. We found this out by contacting Western Digital Tech Support who were quite helpful. We ordered these cables from amazon.com as well: B0001Y8UI4, and B00009YFTI. The ambition was to do this at home; but realized upon opening the PC box that it wasn't so easy - the connections were not easy to figure out including jumper to lower the speed of the new drive from 6Gb/s to 3Gb/s - that Western Digital had warned us about to be compatible with the older PC. Fortunately, a local computer repair shop agreed to do it for only $50 [the same components purchased from them would have been twice as much as amazon.com!] as opposed to Best Buy Geek Squad that wanted over $200 for the same labor. Now, the programs are on the old hard drive [C:] and the data is on this new drive [E:]. The hardware is not a problem; it is working fine as it should. The problem is with software handling the transition of the data. The document folders were an easy fix - change designation from C: to E: for each user. But some programs have been a pain: For example, iTunes had to be directed to E: drive and in the process of rebuilding its library, duplicated all files and also lost the playlists. It is now a headache to manually fix 200GB of iTunes library data since, as we all have experienced, there is no support when it comes to software [Help forums haven't responded]. But I believe we are good to go for another few years after this.

I prefer Western Digital drives. In my experience they last longer and are of better quality than most other competitive manufacturers. This product was priced decent for its size (i.e. 250GB in a 2 TB era).

I purched this because I was building my old computer and didn't want the old hard drive in it . I distroyed the old hard drive so none of the information could be retrived. this hard drive fit the bill perfectly...

As a computer repair business owner I have to let customer demand limit my choices in inventory. I have purchasing the blue line for a few years now and have to say that reliability has been a huge issue. I have been buying WD drives since they used to have a 5 year warranty. Now it is either 1 or 2 years. You will only get about 25 months on one of these drives. Of course there are drives which have much greater life expectancy, but hard drive prices have really spiked in recent months. Therefore, against the better judgement of myself, the professional, my customers demand the low grade hard drives as it is half price of the more reliable.One other note - like other amazon bare drives, the packaging is completely inadequate to protect the drive from the rigors of shipping. If you really really need one for a job - better order 2. I have had to return several hard drives shipped from amazon in this inferior packaging.The blue seems to be a set up from the green, which I have found to failing at an alarming rate; In terms of both seek times, reliability, and overall performance.

i would have chosen a 5 star rating, but it didn't come with the lock in thing for my computer, therefore i had to build something to keep it in place when connected to my computer.

...I find the hum of the unit louder than expected. I understood the tradeoff between decibels and performance, but find this to be louder than expected. The unit is all Sata Gen3, but in hindsight I should have opted for either a different vendor or given up some performance for WD's less noisy options.

I bought this HD after all the positive reviews I read about WD's Hard drives. I haven't owned this HD long, but I purchased it to add to a custom pc build that I'm doing. So far it works great, but I can't comment on the longevity of this HD.

I have an older dell that I use as a server for iTunes and pictures throughout the home. Like most older systems that have a bios restriction this is the Max size for my dell. Works well so far. I have multiples of this drive and it is as fast of response/seek as my dell will utilize. . Pretty good choice for older dell computers.

Very happy with this WD HD. The quality is good, and it came packaged quite securely. The speed is nice! A good value (when prices don't go crazy on HD's).
