I should have know what would happen as soon as I saw this drive arrived in a box that was not what I'm used to when purchasing new Western Digital drives. Both the outside box and inner static-proof bag were U-Line brand, which sent up a red flag that these might be used drives. And I was right.They are advertised as new but they are refurbished. I work in IT and I check every piece of technology that I purchase thoroughly, including (and especially) hard drives. Apparently the seller doesn't know that hard drives equipped with S.M.A.R.T. technology record information about the hard drives, including usage time, errors, etc. This drive had a power-on count of 23 and power-on hours over 5000.Do not sell refurbished drives marked as new.

I have had good experience with WD drives for reliability and performance as replacements or upgrades for OEM hard drives.The WD drives have good performance, and I have not had any failures reported to me by customers over the course of several years of using WD drives. This is very important, because a failed drive usually means lost data, and customers frequently have inadequate backups.I do sometimes get WD drives that are Dead On Arrival (DOA) and which will not format or operate at all. This is not a big problem for me since I'm usually getting several drives at one time, and WD has a very good return program. I would much rather have a drive fail immediately rather than after several months, as I have seen with manufacturers other than WD.For an individual buying a single drive to restore their computer to operation, that delay might be a lot more annoying.

For the price of this Hdd you couldnt possibly go wrong. Very rarely do you see a 7,200 rpm PATA and whe you do you are going to pay out of the ying yang for it. I was amazed when i saw the price of this one and had it ordered 30 seconds later. i chose the free shipping method which is like 5-7 days and it arrived in 2. it came with a tracking number and everything. Great buy and once again another great Western Digital Device.

My desktop computer started getting slower & slower. After deleting as much as I could with no results I took it in for repair & was told I needed a new hard drive. This is the one I found that would work with my computer. Shipping was very fast & it has fufilled my expatations in every way.

Great product - easy to install - worked as advertised. Up and running in about 10 minutes. For my OLD basement DELL computer, this thing was great. Hard to find any IDEs out there, and this one is working fine. The only issue was the jumper blocks the configure the drive to operate in different modes. The unit shipped with one jumper and I needed two. Fortunately, I was able to remove the jumpers from my old drive and get things running.

These drives are *GREAT*! :D They do just what they're supposed to do. They're quiet, and run cool. What more could ya want (except a bigger drive!)?I first bought one for more storage, and when my original hard drive died (the one that came with the computer, not the new Western Digital), I bought another one to be the main drive. Now I have two of them, and couldn't be happier with them. I highly recommend them.My first one I've had now for 9 months, and the new one for 4 months. No problems whatsoever! :D~Cindy! :)..

I bought this drive to replace another that failed. I back up my wife's system using xxclone, a free application that clones an entire disk, warts and all. You can either clone disk A to disk B then run off B while keeping A as a backup, or run off A and keep B as a backup until you clone again. The clone disk is a complete, bootable replacement for the original disk (except that Windows could possibly and unhelpfully complain. In my experience, changing only the disk but not the disk ID, a feature of xxclone, is tolerated by Windows XP Pro.) I would think that Microsoft could now send out an update to XP systems that would allow easy clone backup of XP systems, seeing as how they have since gone through Vista (with great pain) and 7, but they seem to want to perpetuate the pain of backing up an entire hard drive in case it fails totally -- which seems to be the common mode. They want you to re-install every app and every update -- not customer friendly at all.Sure, the disk is old school, and so is my wife's computer, but it functions well enough for email and occasional word processing. Still, there are things on her computer that would be a pain to lose. Solution: clone the disk to another IDE disk using xxclone every few months.Having used Linux/Ubuntu on other systems, I'll never buy another Microsoft or Apple system again; most people would never notice the difference except for the lack of headaches and cost. But for now, it's great to have available a quality hard drive to back up a legacy computer -- at least until the motherboard fails.

The click of death arrived exactly 2 years and 2 days after my purchase, just past the warranty. Nice going Western Digital. You have mastered the art of JUST ENOUGH to get by. Not the quality I had expected or experienced in the past with WD drives. Switching to Seagate ST3250623A-RK (250 GB Ultra ATA/100) with a 5-year warranty. May I never have to depend on WD again, and can only thank them for wasting my time...

It does what it needed to do. Upgrade an old system that did not have SATA connections. I hope to never buy a PATA drive again, but this is not the fault of the PATA drive.

These are OLD new stock made in 2009 so they have no warranty with WD. The box is labeled Blue WD hard drive but has old stock in the box.

I have an older desktop server that uses the old IDE HDD interface. Hard to find drives these days with that interface. The drive installed easily, restored very quickly and operates fast with the 7200 RPM and the 8MB L2 cache! If you need IDE, this is a good drive.

When out to buy an IDE drive, I always look for Western Digital which I have always found to be reliable, and easy to configure as master or slave device with the included jumper. 320GB proves adequate storage space for general use. The new standard is SATA hard drives, but if for some reason you are tied to the PATA specification, this is the drive to buy.
