Великолепно

+ Очень тихий и холодный. Довольно быстрый для серии Green.

Искал жесткий диск для бесшумного ПК. Главный критерий был максимально бесшумный жеский диск. Полностью оправдал ожидания. На нем стоит операционная система. Скорости хватает. Единственное, может медленно...

+ Тихий, холодный.
- Через месяц использования уже начали вылазить (хотя может и были) бэды.

Бэд попался на файл HDRip Теперь при попытке скопировать или прочитать его, ПК подвисает, винт пропадает. Через минут 5 ПК отвисает, но проблема с файлом остаётся.
У меня до этого HDD по лет 5 работали прежде чем начать сыпаться, а тот такое...

+ Нет.
- Диск умер менее чем через месяц использования, унеся с собой 5 свадеб.

Купил диск, как хранилище для рабочих фотографий. Я свадебный фотограф, на диске сейчас лежит 5 отснятых свадеб + личные фотографии, которые слил с быстрого рабочего диска на этот медленный диск, который планировал использовать как архивное хранилище. Но не тут то было. Смотрел фильм, он вдруг завис... Перезагружаю компьютер, лампочка диска горит постоянно, система не...

Великолепно

+ Очень тихий (21 - 22 dB) и практически не греется, что было для меня определяющими качествами, т.к. брал для медиаплеера Dune HD Duo. Не зря Dune для своих плееров рекомендует именно серию Caviar Green.
- За примерно полгода работы не обнаружено.

Весьма рекомендую для воспроизведения аудио. Обычно я слушаю музыку на небольшой громкости...

+ Разве что цена для WD привлекательная, не более того.
- Бэды, от которых никак не избавишься, и это диску всего то 2 месяца!

Всегда был приверженцем WD и тут на тебе, облом. Взяли для бухгалтерского компа (на все лицензия если что). Сначала бсоды, неожиданные остановы...

+ Всё, как обычно у WD Green: очень тихий, очень неприхотливый к энергопотреблению.

Судя по спецификациям на сайте WD (2879-701229.pdf), эта модель ещё тише и ещё экономнее своих старых соратников WD10EARX и WD10EARS. Мало того, она еще и быстрее - WD заявляет скорость чтения до 150 МБ/с, а это вполне сравнимо с текущим WD Black (WD1002FAEX). Разве что, по сравнению с блэком, время доступа и минимальная скорость ниже.
- Всего двухлетняя гарантия...

Отличная модель

+ Мой диск green работает уже 34 500 часов. Много лет.
До сих пор всё ок, что говорит о его долговечности.
Холодный, тихий, потребляет мало энергии.
- Моленный, сойдет для хранения файлов. Не самых важны.
Но как видите - 34 500 часов и он живой.
Винду на него ставить это плохая идея.

I was looking for a quiet HDD to install as a data drive on the new desktop system I was building. My primary drive was 256 GB SSD hard. The SSD is extremely fast. I have Windows 7 and all of my software loaded on the SSD for quick launch (Windows startup ~15 seconds, Word starts in about 2 seconds). They are also silent which I really like too. The SSDs are very expensive for mass storage (~$1 per GB). I needed a second drive for storage (music, videos, pics, etc.) I was really trying to go for a quiet system. Allot of research later, I went with the WD Green....I can not hear it read/writing unless I literally put my ear up to the machine. I have notice zero lag or performance issues with the drive. At first I was apprehensive about using a driving that spun so slowly, but it works perfectly for what I need. I am not sure how well it would do as a primary drive.Amazons frustration free package is a great. It arrived in a simple yet sturdy and durable. It was well protected. I could open the box by hand. I've always had very good luck with Western Digital hard drives and Amazon. This time Amazon let me down. Received HD shipped via Fedex-USPS a day later than was promised. Installed hard drive into my computer and formatted it. Everything was fine and working as expected. Then I attempted to copy some files on the hard drive and the computer locked up. I tried rebooting and the computer locked up when Windows started. I then removed the new hard drive from the system and everything was normal again. Just out of curiosity, I hibernated the computer when it was normal, connected the new hard drive and started the computer. The computer booted up normally, but did not show the drive in the computer directory. It did show it in disk management, but would not respond when accessed.I know the hard drive is very good, as I have the same model in my computer, and have used it almost continuously for 8 months, with no problems. I believe the problem is the way it was shipped. A hard drive is probably one of the most precise mechanical inventions ever created. The way it was said to be shipped was Amazon's "Ships in Certified Frustration-Free Packaging". This is the reason I ordered it from Amazon, in the first place. Instead I received it in the original vendor OEM box which fit in my standard rural mail box, with plenty of room to spare.Very disappointing. I returned the hard drive and will see what happens.Update.....Received refund as promised. Thank you Amazon for your exceptional return policies.

If you're unfamiliar with what I've written in the subject line, know only this: I also own a 1TB WD10EADS (three-year old WD Green model)...on the same test, it peaks at 70MB/sec read. That makes the newest variant of the Green series 2.3x faster, and this drive is selling for less money than I paid for that drive over two years ago. I have had no problems, whatsoever, with the WD10EADS, despite filling it to capacity (with games) and using it for gaming on virtually a daily basis since I purchased it...and I expect the same of WD10EZRX. At the moment, I'm not sure how this drive could be beat, from a value perspective; if it should "crash" at any point in the future, I'll be sure to update, but I don't anticipate it.

It's either just me, or it's a really bad hard drive. I've had many of these fail on me too many times to count. Most of them last for about 2 weeks - 3 months. It's not worth it. I've had these RMA'd multiple times to WD. I was required to pay a shipping fee for a product that has failed multiple times on me. It's just not worth it. I call customer support for a free shipping label every time it fails on me, so almost every month. They tell me it's a one time deal, but I've had a free shipping label after it failed three times in less than a month! Like I've previously stated on numerous occasions - It's just not worth buying this product. You, the buyer, should just buy Seagate or invest in a SSD.

I wish I had a dollar for every review on NewEgg from these kids that buy a 'green AV' drive for a PC, then complaint the performance is terrible when they try transferring and accessing files.Green drives that are specifically designed for AV use as in DVR's or Media Servers can't and won't have the speed and ability of a desktop drive. Rotational speeds are lower (not needed when recording or playing media) and the actuator arm is dampened to keep the drive quiet (necessary for many, but not all DVR's, especially TiVo's).Power consumption is measurably lower compared with a regular desktop drive (the blue series).Note; some DVR's won't accept drives larger than 1TB and some won't work with caches larger than 32MB (this is 64MB).

I had no idea. That this hard drive came preload with govement "X-Files". I now know what happened with Hoffa, JKF, little green guys and area 51. Then agents Mulder & Scully showed up. Arrested and took me in. I'm now serving two life sentences for reviewing this HD. (J/K) But this does hold large amounts of downloaded porn, torrented movies, music and programs. If this is what you're looking for buy it here. What no specs in my review? Go get a SSD if you want faster, no heat, less power or no sound. Damn it works what else do you need to know...

I bought this Hard Drive on thanksgiving holiday. I didn't install until today 3/16/2013 because of busy work. I just found out that the hard drive is already open from plastic wrap and it looks like it was returned from other customer. This is not acceptable. I paid a good price on it and I deserve a new replacement.

We use these for our Video Production Storage. They are a good size for a five camera production over one or two days. So far, in five years, these green drives have proved to be reliable for working off of (using HDD docks).

This is a great product but it doesnt work on Tivo's. Tivo's are Linux based, and the intelipark feature causes the Tivo to reboot and then freeze after it goes into idle mode. Then you have to unplug and plug it back to reboot.The fix for the previous additions was Widdle3.exe, but so far there isnt a documented process on messing with the code. the AV-GP series from WD are supposed to work fine. Lets see...Still this is a great product, not whisper quiet... I could clearly hear the heads running while it was installed.... If I were to buy one for a desktop, why not get the 7200 RPM Black....

WD's version of Acronis True Image downloadable software worked great. If you use a USB external drive adapter to clone your existing drive to the new one, you may have to put the new drive in the computer, and connect the existing drive to the external adapter.

While it's obviously nothing spectacular it is a good hard drive for it's price, low noise, stays cool, decent speed, does it's job well. If you need alot of capacity while staying at a relatively low price for decent quality i would definitely recommend this hard drive.
