If you don't care about the FM radio, the mp3 player (and micro sd slot) and a bluetooth headset that will work with your favorite pair of headphones (or other audio device), skip this product! If you don't want all of those things, you can almost certainly find something that better matches your needs, is easier to use, works better, or is cheaper. Seriously, just keep looking. If you're reading this, look at the mw600. If you don't really want the mp3 player, or the _slightly_ better sound quality, get the mw600, or keep looking. If you do want those things, be warned the mp3 player is pretty bad (depends on user expectations and usage model, see below for more details). The sound quality is better, and probably worth something to people who are picky enough about headphones to buy a separate headset. But keep in mind, the audio is still transcoded to a lossy format, and the mw600 also has "high quality" audio, just not quite as good. Also, people mention the clip. It definitely feels more robust and is clamped with two springs that look like the one used for the mw600. However, you can loose and replace one or two mw600s and still come out ahead of the price of one mw1.Unlike the mw600, the mw1 does work while charging (at least with the 0.1.0.c firmware). I have mixed feelings about that. Chances are fairly good that most of the time users will not be wearing headphones when its charging, and it will just be annoying to have audio routed to the headset when the phone rings. This, as with so many other behaviors, should be an easy to configure option, but is not. Also, the MW1 does not have a normal time of day clock display, I think it can be made to show a clock, if it is paired with a phone that supports it. The MW600 does show it's own clock when idle.If you are still reading out of morbid curiosity, or because the feature set really does appeal to you, I will try to go into some details about the behavior of the headset to give a better sense of what its like. The radio is about on par with the mw600. Even with the 0.1.0.c firmware it does forget the last station occasionally, but usually remembers. Reception is about the same. It does seem to scan for the next channel faster than the mw600. It is much nicer about switching to a2dp audio (both switch nicely to phone calls when the radio is playing). However, I should point out this does make the user interface inconsistent and more confusing, but I don't see how they could have done better, and I like the behavior. The MW1 only supports 2 bluetooth devices (the mw600 supports 3). I still don't really know what the multipoint vs. single point modes do, except the single point makes it much more difficult to use the second bluetooth device. It does not multiplex audio (what I would expect from something that claims "multipoint"). I does switch back and fourth to whatever is playing. With the mw600, you have to tell it to switch from one device to another. Personally, I would like to have the option to listen to just one device, but have the other[s] easily accessible from a list. When the source signal is low, the 0.1.0.c firmware cuts out messily instead of beeping (one of the critiques of the earlier firmwares). I also find that it looses connections a bit when the battery is low (before it gets low enough to warn you). The marketing focuses on iphone and android, but the headset mostly works normally for other phones/hosts. One downside is the "phone" button doesn't send signals from the older profiles/protocols. So that button won't work for dialing on older devices. Also that big button is easy to hit and triggers a scan on first press, producing an annoying interruption. On that note, I'd like to point out the headset does not have a hold switch. I have no idea why not (mw600 also does not). Sony always included a hold switch on their discman remotes. As for the mp3 player. Yes, the headset does work as a card reader when you plug it in over a usb cable to a computer. I have not tested to see if the reader mode withs with multiple partitions or non-fat filesystems. I don't think the player will read tracks of any but the first partition, but have not tested that, yet, for myself. The browser provides access to files by album, artist, track and playlists. It also has a shuffle mode. It does not give raw access to the directory/file hierarchy. For me that is completely unacceptable. I mostly use the headset to listen to podcasts, audio books, or other frequently pooly tagged (if at all) audio files. For every other player I use, crude directory/filename organization is sufficient for my needs. One could argue that its easy to tag things nicely, but why force that on the user? This is just an example of idiotic style over functionality (generously giving them credit for assuming they thought about raw directory browsing).During playback, the player does not show the current time. It uses the 2 line display to show album

***PLEASE SKIP TO BOTTOM TO READ THE AMMENDED COMMENTS!***Original Review:This new Sony Smart Wireless Headset Pro is exactly what i have been wanting for several years now. A few years back, i bought the SonyEricson MW600, which at the time was the closest to my desired stereo bluetooth headset as possible. It worked rather well overall, except for the horrid touch volume slider. The sound was decent, not particularly awesome, but good enough for BT audio. The included earbuds were OK, but i opted to plug in my higher-quality ones and never used the included ones after the trial. But like with many users the clip kept falling out and finally it broke entirely, making the function of the device basically worthless without the clip-on feature. Sony wouldn't help me when i contacted them about it either. So with trepidation, i decided to give this new one a try. And I am happy to say, so far, its working quite well. The built-in MP3 player with on-board MicroSD card is a great feature, it will come in very handy to use as a small music player when i don't want to tether the phone (to make it bearable to mow my lawn for instance). The player is basic but works well. I uploaded thousands of songs on a 32gb card and plugged it in. It will display the artist/song title as its playing. The card slot is located under a slide-off cap on the end. The USB charging port is located under the cap as well. The box includes a 2gb card, a very short USB cable, and a power adapter to usb. I was accidentally sent the European one, but my vendor (ExpansesUSA) promptly replied to my email and shipped out a US power adapter the same day. Great customer service. There is also a very nice MicroSD Card reader USB adapter. It works well to load up your music from the computer onto the tiny card. This headset has a lot of good accessories, which all work very well and seem to add to the satisfaction for what you are shelling out for this package. In the menu (button on far left) you can toggle btween SD card, Phone, Radio, and set-up tools. There is a three-way button to the right of the menu button with Back/Play-Pause/Forward which seems intuitive enough and has a good click response. On the the bottom is the Up/Down Volume buttons, with good tactile feel as well. And thanks Sony for not using the horribly engineered slider volume again. This one works great! The phone answer/call is bigger round button on the top beside the LCD screen. The power button is a small button on the top near the headphone jack. The microphone is on the top panel too. Everything is laid out well ergonomically, and functions well too.The Bluetooth seems to have pretty good range, and the sound is about the best i've used so far. Fairly clean and free of radio-distortions and such. You HAVE to download and intall the Sony LiveWare APPS from GooglePlay to use the device with your android phone. My SamsungGalaxyNexus installed the apps well and locked onto the device without any problems. You have to confirm the passcodes and such. You can use two devices to bluetooth to the SWHP. It will show a number (1 or 2) on the display to show which one is synced. Mine also knows and displays my phone brand.Using a music player app (my favorite is PowerAmp) the sound is actually very good, better than i expected to be honest, and i am admittedly one of those audiophile types who is a bit picky with sound quality. EQ settings from the player are still quite noticeable on the headset, and sound good. Volume on the device is enough and the opamp seems clean without adding too much of its own signature. It has a good quality sound. There is no EQ settings on the device itself, one thing i was disappointed with at first, but upon more listening i am glad they didnt put in some horrid preset EQs and mess up the sound. It is flat, detailed, with enough bass if the track has it. And like i said, using the app on your phone to change the sound signature works well and translates well to the headset. The included earbuds are actually much better than i expected. I planned to just plug in my Audio-Technica ckM50's or UE TripleFi10's upon the first listen, but i havn't. Not to say they are quite up to the specs as the higher-end earphones, but they are VERY GOOD for included earbuds. The ribbon-like wire does not tangle much, i've found the short length to be just about right to use with the clipped-on headset. Not sure why the length of the cable is so much between the L/R sides though, maybe for a Sasquatch head? There is some microphonics in the cord, but not terribly so, especially if you route the wire behind your head and dont move that much. Not sure about excercising though. The earbuds fit my ear perfectly, they are VERY noise-suppressant in the canal, and are rather comfortable. The buds are pretty small and fit well into the ear. I can even lie on my side without it bothering me much. The sound is quite detailed, a bit warm, with good response from low to high, with enough s

If you are considering buying this product I strongly suggest you either reconsider or at least wait until the unacceptable amount of bugs and lacking features are fixed. From just using this product a couple of days it is already clear to me that it was not adequately tested before release. Here are the specific problems:*This device doesn't work at all as an MP3 player as it is advertised to do. Adding music directly through USB and copying to the SD card does not work, even though the manual says this is possible. I tried adding albums to it using Sony's (almost useless) Media Go program and it shows all the songs and albums as being on the SD card (filling up about half of a 16GB SD card) but it takes a VERY LONG TIME to load into the music select menu.*Once the device does finally get to the music select screen, you can only play the first song of any artist or album and then it stops dead. The skip next button just pauses that one song when you try pressing it. The only way to see the other songs is to scroll through the entire list of unsorted songs, which is of course a ridiculous way to play or categorise music, and then once it reaches the first song listed and you try to scroll backwards, the device resets itself!*You are unable to create any playlists for the device, so it's a bit pointless even listing it in the menu.*In addition, the Android Bluetooth (BT) call features hardly ever work. Even if it's paired with my Samsung Galaxy Note phone through BT and a call comes in, I can hear the call ringing and despite pressing the black button as the instructions say, nothing happens at all and I need to take the call on the phone instead. Using it with Viber to try to call, it cuts in and out in the middle of the call, switching between the phone's speaker and no sound at all. I had the MW600 before this product and at least that was able to do basic music playback with correct artist/song information (which this device does not do at all) and the bluetooth functions of the MW600 worked (which they don't on this piece of junk).*If that wasn't enough, the text to speech function is sporadic in its operation at best, mostly non-functioning the majority of the time, for both gmail and text messages, even after installing the required apps from the Play market.*The FM radio function is really a joke. You can't store any preset stations and then each time you start it up it always begins from 00.0mhz every time, not even remembering which frequency you used last time.*How can this be called a "premium" device when it doesn't even support basic .mp3 playback, let alone common lossless filetypes like .flac?*When I first turned the product on and paired it with my phone it said it was updating. Then when I looked up the Sony support website it shows a .bin update file with instructions to update. Is this the same update? I tried installing it exactly as the instructions said and there was absolutely no response from the device as to whether it updated or not. It is ridiculous to assume that posting an update file without a date or version number on a website will be of any use to users because how can we possibly determine which file is required? Regardless, no updates or firmware revisions have fixed any of the issues I have mentioned so far in this review.I paid a lot of money for this device (especially compared to cheaper but similar products from other brands) because of the advertised premium features it should have come with and because I thought Sony was a reputable brand and I expect it at least to do the basic functions that it is claimed to. I assumed that perhaps it was just me that had a faulty device but after reading reviews on other sites as well as this I have found that it is the device itself which is seriously flawed. For a brand that supposedly prides itself on high quality products, this is totally unacceptable from Sony.

I was searching for a decent headset to go with my small army of Android devices. I already own the Jawbone family of devices and although they are nice, I always had issues with a proper fit in my ear; and with sound quality.I heard about the Smart Wireless Pro during the Xperia launch and immediately it went on my must buy list, and I have to say I have not been disappointed.Box Contents============1. Headset itself2. Wired earphones (the best "OEM" ones I have used)3. 2 GB MicroSD card4. Wall Charger5. USB Cable6. USB Memory card reader (to load items onto the MicroSD card).7. Getting started guides8. Different earpiece sizes9. A shirt clip for managing wires.Once you manage to open the box and pry out the headset (it took me a good 2 minutes to un-clip it from the box), the first thing will notice is the quality feel of the product. It is a well made product and will remind you of Sony's TVs that are also of similarly top-notch quality ... and the second thing you will notice is all the fingerprints you managed to get on it since this this is a GIANT fingerprint MAGNET. I hope this doesn't bother you otherwise you will forever be wiping it.You need to charge the device for 2 hours before it is ready to use. Once it is ready, you should insert the memory card into the supplied reader and go to Sony's support website and download the software update. The update allows additional features and extends compatibility along with some bug fixes.Place the downloaded file on the memory card (but not in any folder, just the memory card) and insert the memory card into the headset and turn it on. You will see a progress bar as the software is updated.Pairing=======Turn on the bluetooth radio on your Android phone and wait for the device to be detected. One click on the phone, and pressing the large black button on the front will pair the device. Your android phone should then display a popup that is a link to Google Play to download the companion app for the headset called LiveWare manager. This app is not _required_, but it is highly recommend as it adds lots of neat features to this amazing headset. The phone can be paired with two devices simultaneously.Features========This device is more than just your bluetooth headset. It is also a radio (with auto scan) and an mp3 player. Once you have installed LiveWare manager, it can also show your tweets, SMS messages, call log, Email messages, Gmail accounts, calendar alerts and even speak the caller ID information for you.Audio Quality=============Audio quality and outside noise isolation are excellent as the supplied headset provides excellent noise cancellation. You have to make sure you string the right earpiece (it is the longer of the two) around the back of your neck, as this will place the mic closer to your mouth and provider better audio for the receiving party. The device also support A2DP so you can use it to stream audio from your phone.Problems========So far I only have one real issue with the device. I have to remember to turn on the screen using any of the button OTHER than the main black button while in a call, as this will hang up the other party. As this is the most prominent button it is the easiest to press, especially if you are trying to adjust the clip on your shirt.Overall=======I would rate this a "must buy" if you are looking for a quality headset that you will actually use on a daily basis. Excellent comfort, quality construction and most importantly clear audio make this a clear winner. The value added features from the Android companion app just make it that versatile. You will not be disappointed.

I rate it 2 stars because I found it annoying having to navigate the menus and stuff all the time. If they update the firmware and fix a few annoyances, I will give it a 4. I want to turn it on and play my media on my phone, but the Smart Wireless Pro makes you do some work every time. If you want a good bluetooth device to listen to music, and streaming iheartradio and stuff like that get the Sony mw600. It sounds better and it's much easier to use. All you have to do is turn it on and adjust the volume. The smart wireless pro is not very smart at all. The good news is that the firmware can be updated and hopefully they will fix it so it's not such a pain to use. It's a pretty high tech little device and there are apps you can use to add more functionality. The whole idea of it sounds pretty good, but I waste way too much time fiddling with the darn just to get it to work. Maybe different phones and different versions of android work differently, but these are my experiences with a Motorola Photon 4g.I had a few annoying problems with the Smart Wireless Pro. When I listen to something on my phone and someone calls me, I can answer and talk to them fine. But when I end the call it doesn't switch back to whatever I was listening to. So I have to push the select button, and push the right arrow to highlight my phone, and push select again to connect to my phone media. When I am at work mowing grass (noisy), I listen to sports talk on iheartradio pretty much all day long. I found that the volume is not quite loud enough even with some excellent noise isolating headphones (ue700). Music plays loud enough but some talk stations are not. Basically, I want more volume, or I want the volume to work separately like on the mw600. The volume on the smart wireless pro can only be adjusted on the device itself. The phone volume does nothing.Another annoying thing is that the smart wireless pro forgets things. If I turn off bluetooth, then turn it back on later, I have to navigate again to play media from my phone. Why doesn't it just remember what media I was listening to last time? The mw600 does remember and it's not even "smart". If you turn the power off, it even forgets what FM station you had it tuned to.

Everything they say about how terribly this product performs, is sadly the truth.I paired this MW1 device with my Samsung I9250 Galaxy Nexus 16GB (Unlocked) on JB 4.2 and installed the original Sony app from Play Store. A firmware update began to download and install. Initially the device didn't stay connected to the phone all of the time, and soon after, the Sony headset died on me - permanently. Thinking this was a coincidence, I switched it for a new device at the store. Having removed the old device from my phones paired devices, I paired this new Sony properly. The device soon got its upgrade to 0.1.C.0.3 and now it hasn't died on me, though it could as well have, because of all its flaws.1) In a phone call or when listening to a podcast etc., the connection drops for a few seconds every now and then.2) MW1 can not recognize any audio files on my Samsung 32GB High Speed MicroSDHC Memory Card with SD adapter.3) MW1 only supports two connections; on my Sony Ericsson Hi-Fi Bluetooth Stereo Headset with FM Radio I successfully paired at least three devices.Trying to use MW1 on a Samsung Galaxy S II GT-I9100 Unlocked Phone with 8MP Camera and Touchscreen - International Version (Black) or a Asus Google Nexus 7 ASUS-1B32 32GB Tablet - Quad-core Tegra 3 Processor, Android 4.1, both on Android 4.2, is just as hopeless.Sorry to say, this is to my knowledge currently the only headset with all those cool functions I wanted, but now will have to live without.

I use this with my Industrial Earmuffs. The Ear Muffs have a 3.5 stereo jack and the MW1 gets clipped to the collar of my t-shirt. The MW1 would have been much better had they placed the 3.5 stereo jack on the bottom instead of the top where the microphone is. So now the cable often rubs against my neck, which can get annoying. I don't use the sd card as the MW1 is really basic when it comes to playing any form of media, including the FM radio. Apart form that, is suite my needs perfectly. People can hear me very well, even in very noisy situations, but this device does NOT have noise cancelling. So, I can be wearing industrial ear muffs hands free and can have two phones connected at a time, or one phone and bluetooth on my PC, or a bluetooth enabled MP3 player. Likewise, if I'm listening to music via one of the bluetooth enabled devices, that fades out, and the phone call comes through crystal clear.

I bought this bluetooth headset for $99 for a senior family member in Jul 2012 as it worked as a stand alone MP3 player too. Every one or two months the headset stopped working and each time he got a brand new replacement. He's already got his third one by Oct 2012. We wonder how many replacements he will get within the one-year warranty period. For myself I bought a Samsung HS3000 bluetooth headset in May for $30 from Amazon. It still works fine. The Sony has very little edge in sound quality in music playing. The sound from Sony can go louder, therefore it makes vocal sound a little more solid. But I have to stress the difference is minimal, and it doesn't justify the 330% price difference. I used Westone UM3X to test them.Update: 28 Nov 2012My relative lost his Sony bluetooth headset so there will be no more replacement for him in the one-year warranty period.

Bought this to replace a MW600 with a broken clip. Great range. Great battery life. Crystal clear display. Box comes with loads of accessories to help increase the value. Easy to set-up and use. They really have learned from the mistakes on the MW600 (which was the benchmark BT headset for music) - that is the charging port is hard to let moisture in, the volume control is now a rocker switch and not the touch sensitive rubbish and the clip looks to be indestructable. Don't bother buying a larger capacity SD card for the unit, it's well documented that at the time of me writing this the units do not recognise SD cards of greater than 2GB. i have a full video review on you tube, just search for my name (zero2espect).i bought this to use as a stereo bluetooth headset to use while i work out in the gym and use by the pool. it does all of this excellent - hence the 4. if i was buying this to use a stand-alone music player or as an app device to use with my phone, it'd score only a 3 (e.g. it does the job ok).

To be honest it would be a great product if the following was to occur,1. If the device could read Micro SD Memory more than 2GB, it is advertised that you could use upto 32 GB, but I tried all the leading brands and it always reads them 2GB...2. If it could actually work as an MP3 on it's own. It does work streaming from my phone where it can randomily start music on it's own and most of the time I have to open the player from my phone for the play functions on the device to work...!?3. Read my text messages as advertised! doesn't work!4. ...OR SHOULD I SAY 4!!!!!! I bought 2! so that's not with one device it's with 2! It randomily shuts off and doesn't turn on again!! it gives you a kids chucky horror movie sound like *ti tu ti tu to* and thats it! $175 up yours! in m case $175 x2!... Sony is yet to reply it's been a month.. so all those who though this would be a dream well it is if they manage to fix all the problems in the mean time STAY AWAY FROM IT!

I must say that I really love the sound quality and I have been using MW600 previously until the earpiece gave way. I could not find the alternative earphone for the MW600 hence decided to try on the New Sony MW1B. Unfortunately, there are several issues of the player unable to play certain songs which I think there are bugs that are not fix yet. Secondly, the player can connect to iphone but the player does not have the function to control the music forward, play and etc. Though, the answering via Bluetooth is superb. It is very clear and no static noise. The feature component is meant for android users, iphone users be patient.
