I love this drive. I have a several USB WD Passports which have been my favorite for a four years, but this new Seagate drive trumps those is and is now my go to drive.It could be easier to open the case, but few people actually by a case like this with the intent of changing the drive inside. I opened it anyway, and if you know what you're doing it's not bad. I unexpectedly love the dock. Love the speed (FW 800).I'm simultaneously impressed and annoyed by the dozen cables included. It comes with every combination of cables you could ever want including both a long and short FW800 cable in ADDITION to the one hardwired into the dock.

a few months back i purchased the 500GB freeagent go for mac and could not be happier. i plugged in the docking station, inserted the drive and my macbook pro recognized it immediately, asked if i wanted to use it for time machine, i said yes and it has been running without incident since.the initial backup took and hour or two, as i have loads of media files; since then it lights up about four times a day while the time machine icon cycles for a few minutes, makes no noticeable sound and goes back to sleep. it could not be any easier to protect my files. simple to install, easy to use and quiet while running in the background.i recommend this drive without hesitation.

No setup was required for the FreeAgent--just plug in and go. The Seagate FreeAgent Go drive is silent. A nice change. The included dock/cradle and cables allow one to hook the drive up via USB 2.0 or either Firewire 400 or 800. I use the dock (powered from my laptop Firewire port, so it's very compact and convenient). The drive is also small--about 1/4 the size of my old drive. While I've only had the FreeAgent for a couple weeks, I couldn't be happier.

I've only had this disk for a month, but so far it's been great! I reformatted it to FAT32 so that I can move files between my MAC and PC. The only problem I had was that I was not able to mount the disk on an older Windows XP machine. Not sure if it was an incompatibility with the older OS or just my dying computer. It's worked with everything else.

I have a WD 250 GB drive that's about a year and a half old. The Seagate drive blows that one away. It's smaller, insanely quieter, better looking and much faster. Most of the time Apple won't list a product on their website or carry it in their store if it gets bad reviews. One other thing, the dots on the bottom front light up and fluctuate between dim and light while in use. Pretty cool if you ask me.

I bought this to use with the Time Machine application in my Mac Mini. It was easy to install and is attractive and quiet. With Time Machine it backs up my computer and all it's data every hour. Great peace of mind, and a better price than the Apple storage that is made to go with the mini. It comes with a variety of connectors to use usb or firewire. My only disappointment was that the cradle does not work with a 400 firewire port, but I'm getting along fine with the cable that does work. A good product at a good price.

Having said that, the "Mac ready" version is a waste of money. You pay a 50% price premium over the regular version at the same capacity, and the only difference is the addition of a firewire port and the fact that it comes pre-formatted for Macs. If you can live with just a USB connection, simply buy the regular version for much less money and format it yourself. It literally takes less than two minutes in Disk Utility....I have only one other con to mention... it is made out of plastic, and for some reason I was naive and I expected it to be made of anodized aluminum.

Great value. Combos well with Superduper. You can then boot right from the external drive. Runs very fast and you don't even hear it. I have 2 of them. Firewire 800 is GREAT.

As the title says, piece of junk. Worked just long enough to outlive the 30 day return policy. Quickly became unreliable in recording data, and soon after didn't work at all. Don't waste your money.

I recently replaced my PC with a Macbook and wanted to back-up my data using the Seagate FreeAgentGo. I got the 250-GB model. I liked that it was convenient and ready to use right out of the box and loved the sleek design. But the first time I used it, it took a really long time (hours) to back up my computer using the USB connection and the time machine. I admit I am not tech savvy but it left me wondering if there was something wrong. The instructions did say it just needed to be plugged in. Subsequent back-ups were much faster and finished backing up almost in an instant. It comes with a sleek case that I can use when I travel, which I think was great so I didn't have to buy another case. All in all I am quite happy with this product and would recommend others to try it.

I think it wil become dirty. I'd rather prefer if it was all made in aluminium as the front, or in black rubber (as these are the colors of the new line of Macs).
