- - Очень сильно греется, потребляет в пиках много току из-за чего требователен к питанию. Оказывается не таким долговечным.

If you go to forums(dot)seagate(dot)com and search on 'chirp', you'll find that a number of 1TB - 3TB Seagate SATA drives of more recent vintage, all chirp. You won't find this model listed, but it chirps too. Many other models do, as well.It's not clear why the chirp exists, but to any techie, it spells bad news. Complaints on this model chirping are in google, if you search on ST3500641AS and 'chirp' or 'chirping'. I can't find anything at all in Seagate, which addresses the issue. The speculation was first, that the firmware needed to be updated, but for this model there is no firmware update; on other models, updating the firmware stopped the chirping, so it obviously wasn't a fault in the drive itself.Second, speculation that the heads are getting ready to crash, with some reports that when the chirping finally stopped, the hard drive died five days later (although new).Third, speculation that the bearings of the drive are either wearing out or out of line or something, so the drive will soon die. Nothing in the forum thread on that speculation, ever completed, so its veracity is questionable.Fourth, that the default APM setting for the drive should be turned off, but is always on. You supposedly can turn it off by hdparam , though I wasn't able to do that with this model. Those who could, reported the chirping cease.The other and final report note, was that Seagate was pretty good about replacing returned discs, but also that the replacements were refurbished, not new. Of course, if you buy it through Amazon, you don't have to worry. Amazon is fantastic about returns. That's why if possible, I only shop here. I honestly don't know how Amazon stays so competent, since from what I can tell by comparing prices, their markup must be nearly zero. So I want to give them whatever business I can.Obviously the Seagate problem is not Amazon's fault. You can, if you wish, buy some other internal drive, right here in Amazon. And I suggest you do, for I see nothing over the five years from Seagate, on this problem. This drive was manufactured in 2005. So to verify whether they have even addressed its chirping, I just emailed them for a support request. They are notorious for not replying to help requests. So if I get a reply, I'll post it here.I love Seagate. So I really hope to be able to return and reply something happy. This chirping really baffles me. I didn't get this drive through Amazon; it was installed for me elsewhere, as I couldn't buy what I wanted, here. So I had no good place to post a warning, except here.

I tossed one of these in my laptop and it just blew me away!It used to take my laptop a full 2 minutes, sometimes more, to boot up from a cold hard stop. Now I'm active after 33 seconds. And it's just not the boot time. It's everything being faster too.You know how some programs bog down your system? Nothing bogs me down now.All computer hard drives should be this technology. Nothing else makes sense. I suppose if SSDs were comparably priced, they'd be the choice. But they're simply too expensive at this stage of the game.If you're considering going with a hybrid, go with it. You won't be disappointed. You'll only be amazed!

I installed this in my computer about 14 months ago and have not had any problems with it. This was the first hard drive I've ever installed. The process seemed less complicated than what I had read prior to ordering. Installation didn't result in any problems. I didn't know exactly what to expect. I finally noticed that the new hard drive was listed when I clicked on 'My Computer', appearing as "Backup (D:)". I moved many megabytes of files over to it and continue to use it regularly.

This is a good OEM storage drive. Faster spin speed than the standard 5400 RPM laptop drives, which means slightly better load times. Not quite as fast as the Velociraptor 10000 RPM drives or an SSD, but excellent if you're just using it as a backup or storage drive. It meets all my needs as a backup and storage and steam game drive.Installation is easy, and as usual, requires a SATA data and a SATA power cable to function. It's not particularly outstanding or bad in any respect. It's just a decent, good for the price backup drive. That's pretty much all there is to it. Will update this post if/when it fails.

I had to format it a couple times because of a misunderstanding, but this drive is fast and is more than adequate for adding a little life to my 7-year-old computer.
