Works perfect with my computer as a secondary drive.- Noise Not too much at all.- Speed At 7,200 rpm, I don't think anything could go wrong- Conclusion With the price including shipping and handling. There are nothing I can complaint about. Definitely best buy!

NEVER SHOULD HAVE HAPPENED:I've watched the issue with these drives carefully for about 2 months. It looks like Seagate solved the problem and that a vocal few were ever really affected. By few I mean relative to the thousands sold. And I am not defending Seagate. This whole fiasco was unacceptable.MY SYSTEM:I picked up 8 of these drives. I'm running them in 4 separate DLink DNS-321 RAID boxes. I've copied about 4TB of data back and forth across them for days. My only firmware update needed was for the DLink so that it could properly handle the new 1.5TB drives.In the end I believe all is well with both the drives and the DLink DNS-321. I will of course update this review immediately if I see any problems.PERFORMANCE:We are able to watch movies from this drive arrangement on 3 computers simultaneously across a 100mb network from the same drive while adding new files to the drive from a 4th computer.This means I can be adding movies unattended to the system while watching an Epic Man movie on the plasma in the living room... while the kids are watching Monsters Inc in the bedroom... and the wife is off watching some chic flick in the Den. :)The combination of DLink and these 1.5TB drives is fantastic and seems as stable as the WD 1TBs I was using previously.PROPER DIAGNOSIS:Don't confuse your drive DIEING after a week with the previous firmware problems of this particular drive. Blame the vendor that shipped the drive like it could bounce !ON A SIDE NOTE:I will say I am sick of Amazon, Tiger and other vendors shipping hard drives like they are indestructible ROCKS. Even if they arrive working, this inadequate packaging is certainly taking years off the life of our drives. One of my 8 arrived DEAD as a brick thanks to this nonsense. I am furious about this issue !Will it take a class action to stop this behavior of guaranteeing future drive sales by damaging todays drives through deliberate mishandling of our purchases ?! Wake up AMAZON ! Wake up TIGER !UPDATE: Dec 14 2009One year later, I own 22 of these drives now. 12 are running daily in DNS-321 Raid boxes. The other 10 are used as back up drives in a drop in SATA adapter. No failures since 2 in the first few weeks, I believe due to poor packaging. About 6 of my drives came with the BAD firmware. I never had issues with that either. Call me blessed. I just think the DNS-321 and these drives work very well together.UPDATE: Jan 8 2011Another year passes and most of my 1.5TBs have all been pulled from DNS-321 RAID boxes and used as loose backup drives in a drop in SATA adapter. I've replaced them with the larger Seagate 2TB drives for larger capacity. NO FAILURES OF EITHER DRIVE 1.5TB or 2TB ! I have a couple Hitachi's and WD 2TBs. The Seagate drives are quieter and come off sleep in my RAID boxes faster than the other brands. All are used for video streaming over a network and do a fantastic job.TIGER has been shipping drives MUCH BETTER. Amazon packagers have sent me drives packed poorly just 2 months ago. I requested replacements and Amazon handled the no charge exchange well. But they should NOT have been shipped that way.

If this is a quiet drive, I would hate to hear a loud one. This drive came as OEM in my Dell XPS 9100 and while it is fast, passes every diagnostic, it's seek process is extremely LOUD! I am already wishing I had my old Western Digital back. This thing sounds like the Seagate I had in my old 8088 IBM. If this is progress, Seagate has been sounding still. I have already requested a warranty exchange and will let this site know if this drive is an anomaly. Very dissappointed at this point.

A great drive, easily installed in an external enclosure. I had wanted to image my laptop's hard drive and Seagate have a special software available that would do that well. I downloaded it. Unfortunately, the software searched for "installed" Seagate drives, didn't find mine at the end of a USB cable, and refused to run. I used backup, and will have to look for another software to image my disk.

Seriously, why did I get sent a hard drive without a SATA cable which is ALWAYS included on every other drive? Now I have to wait even longer to get the SATA cable necessary to even install this drive. Would not have bought this if I would have known or would have bought the cable to have them shipped together. This is kind of a waste.

I purchased this drive as the primary drive for a new computer that I was building. It is much faster than the IDE drive that it is replacing (the new Quad System helps too). SATA of course, is also faster. However, the new system will accept SATA 6 Gig/sec drives, and it may have been better to hold out for the faster unit. I have absolutely no complaints with the drive so far. Compared to WD drives, I find Seagate (Maxtor) drives to be much more reliable and that is a vitally important consideration.

I ordered a pair of the 1.5TB drives for use in a NAS device, and was horrified when they arrived.Though the description rightly advertises these as "bare drives", there was no packaging/padding inside of the Amazon box at all, meaning that the two drives had rattled and bounced around all the way to my front door.I was hardly surprised when I connected them to find both suffering from click death, necessitating a return and refund. While the price is great, the chance that I'll have to go through several attempts to find two drives in working order is a chance I'm unwilling to take.

I may not be the best person to write a review of this drive because I'm just using it for simple storage of picture and video files, and for that, it's great. Don't know how it would perform in a server or a raid unit, but it does what I need it to do just fine. The only negative is the lack of care with which Amazon packages it and ships it to you...leaves a bit to be desired! The one I got does appear to have survived the experience.

The first order of this drive disappeared somewhere during shipping. Amazon sent replacement next day air which arrived OK. Using a USB SATA adapter I did a clone of my original drive using the free Seagate software. Put the drive into my machine replacing the original drive and it works fine. Booted up with no problems. Been running for a few weeks OK so far satisfied with this product.

MUCH HAS BEEN SAID ABOUT POOR QUALITY OF SHIPPING/PACKGING. AS AN EX-QC GUY I WAS IMPRESSED WITH PACKAGING ON UNIT I RCVD. UNIT UTILIZED THE CLAMSHELL PACKAGE FILLER. UNIT COULD HAVE SURVIVED MULTIFOOT DROP TEST. FYI THIS WAS A REPLACEMENT FOR A FAILED SEAGATE DRIVE. FIRST ONE IN 25+ YEARS!!

I purchased the drive a few weeks ago and have been using it as a backup drive (externally) and thus far has given me no major problems. I did have a problem at first when backing up data. I formated the drive as efat32 instead of NTFS or Fat 32 but when I tried to read it with my G4 Mac, the system didn't recognize the file system thus I had to reformat as NTFS. Other that that it works great.

Only had drive for a couple of weeks, but drive runs quiet and installation was fairly easy except my computer did not recognize it at first. I had to set up BIOS with one drive first before I could select the SATA 1+2 option. Now my computer runs two hard drives like before. I also updated the firmware as some suggested and so good so far!!!

I would have been perfectly happy with this drive except that one of the screw receptors was misaligned or not properly threaded. The drive is installed with 3 of 4 screws and the stub of one that broke off. It appears to be secure enough and to be operating okay but this installation problem was a disappointment. Perhaps if it had come with screws (as it should have but didn't) Seagate would have found this problem and would not have shipped a drive with this defect.

I spent two hours on the phone with Seagate after finding that there is a known firmware problem with their Barracuda hard drives that causes them to brick (not recognized by the BIOS). Seagate states that they have firmware fix to repair this known issue. They gave me a UPS label to ship it to them to have the fix installed. Fast-forward six hours - This evening at 8:30 PM, they called me back to inform me that they wanted $300 to install the fix, but would be happy to cancel my trouble ticket if I preferred. The drive sold for $200 new. Never again - I'm sticking with Western digital - they do it right.

Have had this OEM Seagate Barracuda 1TB for a couple months now, and no problem so far.Shipped with good enough packaging from Amazon. The packaging is only a box with two support at both ends of HD to hold it in place.Fortunately mine works without any problem when it arrives.

Came home and unboxed the drive, installed it and proceeded to use the Seagate Disc Wizard (Windows takes longer IMHO) and had an Internal Exception Error: "Object handle is not registered. (0x120023)". Ok so I used Windows 7 Manager to format as NTFS (tried Full and Quick) and comes up with an error that it could not be formatted. Sent this one back, hopefully I will get the next one in a couple days to see if this replacement drive is any better.

This product is everything you'd want in a drive. Quiet, and it holds tons of stuff.Having had it less than a month, it's premature to speak of reliability; however, I've purchased many Seagate drives at work over the years, and they make a good product.

Both units arrived in a timely fashion and were solid right out of the very solid packaging. We needed a little room to move some parts of a server file system around with externalizing everything. The 250s and a simple raid controller did the trick. Units were prepacked in Seagate shipping boxes which can be re-used for warranty shipments of any hard disk.

The reason for this purchase is all the SMART errors I was getting when using these drives in my ReadyNAS raid array. I though I was getting enterprise reliability but two (of the four) of the drives have growing SMART error counts already, not what I expected. I'm in the processes of testing the drives using the SeaTools to determine if I need to do the RMA. I do have better things to spend my time on ...

Got this drive on a lightning deal in sept. Just tried to install it and it was doa. Seagate does not recognize the serial number/model number for warrantee, and it's past 30 days for amazon return.

This drive is advertised as NEW. It obviously came out of an Apple computer which makes it USED. It suffered catastrophic failure and is NOT supported by Seagate because it is OEM, and only the OEM buyer can deal with Seagate. I have attempted to contact the seller twice now without receiving a reply. This seller should be banned fromAmazon because of Fraud and Deception.

There is much discuasion of the performance of this drive when used in RAID arrays. [...] The drive that notably beat the Seagate was the WD RE3. The real competition for the Seagate is the WD Caviar Black which the drive met or beat on virtually every test.Some background info:Both the 1Tb WD Black and the Seagate 1.5Tb had an issue with long "timeouts" caused by the drives "self-standardization" or "cache-flushing" (I'm not SURE of the technical details) at intervals. This "off-line" appearance of the drives caused the drive to a) drop out of the RAID configuration b) be "ejected" from the array due to "read/write errors" c) "hang" for up to 30 seconds or so. Needless to say, these cause major problems in the speed and efficiency of the RAID arrays.The most important thing to note is the major difference in corporate response to the using the drives in RAID arrays. I don't have the exact quote, but WD pretty much said "the Black is not approved for RAID use and will not be supported in this application. Use the RE3 drives". This varies MARKEDLY in the response of SEAGATE which was to work with users and issue firmware patches to meet customer expectatioins. The response of WD on this issue was, imho, unforgivable.. I mean its true that the drives, if applied to a true corporate environment RAID array which has very severe throughput and percent utilization challenges, is a special case. However, for home users, probably 90% of new motherboards contain SATA RAID options built in. For this reason combined with the great prices on HD's now encourage MANY MANY home users to begin using RAID configurations on their home setups. By any stretch of the imagination drives used this way get no more severe utilization than the same drives used in a single drive configuration.[b]Huge KUDO's go to SEAGATE[/b] for the way in which they have tried to support this 1.5 Tb drive while WD needs to have their ears pinned back for their "corporate speak" response to this issue. The RE3 is, on a cost per Gb basis, about 2.25 times the cost of the Seagate 1.5Tb. The 1Tb Caviar Black is the "comparable" drive (still somewhat more expensive $/Gb than this Seagate) and it isn't supported by WD in a RAID array!!! Pffft on WD!PS: I am a long time user of both brands of drives and previously was slightly biased toward WD.. but this incident weighs on my mind considerably(edit added) To summarize:Seagate 1.5Tb approx cost /Gb 0.085 .. RAID supported (need updates)WD Black 1.0Tb approx cost /Gb 0.120 .. Not supported in RAIDWD RE3 1.0Tb approx cost /Gb 0.180 .. Certified for RAIDAll have 5yr warranties, and based on my past experience (I've not had a failure with any of these drives) their warranty services are very good. But if you're having RAID application issues with the WD Black, you won't get support.

Been in my PC as of Tuesday (4 days) and I have used it heavily.So far has been flawless if occasionally a bit noisy. This being a relative term and subject to personal opinion. However, much quieter than my old 80 gig EIDE that sounded like it had stark raving mad gnomes with pick-axes.So far, so good. Cant complain and the price was right.

Excellent price at the time my purchase was made, and it was shipped within a reasonable amount of time. Has been installed a running for about 2 months with no problems. I would recommend purchasing one if you have the chance.

I bought a WD OEM 1TB Hard drive few weeks ago, it runs slow like hell on my desktop running windows 7. As replacement, 1TB hard drive from Seagate gives me the hope of building a faster system. So if you are look for a hard drive fast enough to fit your i5 or i7 processor and not expensive (like solid state drive), this is it.

I got the two HDs in a week time (free shipping) OEM package. They're worked fine from the start. Fast low noise. one little problem with one Sata power socket it was chipped on the edge... not an issue decided to keep it.

Got this drive on an Amazon deal. Overall it's not a bad drive for the capacity. The only thing I hate about it is the loud clicking noise each this the drive spins up/down when coming out of sleep or during machine power on.

I needed an inexpensive, reliable HD and got this. Works flawlessly, you will need a SATA cable as it doesn't come with one. So far so good, best bang for the buck right now at $59.

After just under two years of ownership, the drive died. I lost hundreds of GBs of photos. Good think I backed them up on my SAN. I will never trust a Seagate drive again.

This is a very fast drive, upgraded from a Western Digital 640GB Black drive to this and I can defiantly tell a difference in performance. Those of you who are having problems with the drive failing or dying need to learn how to update the firmware.

This is a review revisit. I installed this Seagate in my iMac and ran the hard disk integrity and benchmark tests in Drive Genius that stresses the drive and looks for defects. It passed the tests above average and so far has been flawless. I'm the type that wants a reliable drive and if I have one that seems suspect I'll run it through tests that will either verify or restore the drive like new or expose it as unreliable.As anyone who has an '07 or newer iMac they are virtually silent. After installing this new drive I noticed it's normal operating sound level is just noticeable where the original drive had no noticeable noise. This is totally fine. And monitoring the drive's temperature is normal as well.
