This monitor has a beautiful picture when it works but it's made in China so expect it to die in just a couple years. I picked up one at Goodwill for $15 that looked to be in good shape but it wouldn't turn on and the power button blinked all the time like it was in power saving mode. Upon taking it apart I found that all the capacitors in the power supply were bad which is something that also happens with motherboards, PC power supplies and other devices made in China. The capacitors are easy to replace though and it's working great again now. For some interesting reading Google "China capacitor problems" and check out badcaps dot net for photos of what they look like.

The Samsung 913V is an excellent LCD monitor. I have been using this monitor for several years and the clarity is excellent. The full size is much more usable than a Widescreen unit.

I loved this monitor when i was still using Vista x64 and the HD4870 graphics card. It took a while to have them supported but the 2.0.0 software of the included calibration device finally did. Now on Win7 x64 and HD5870, it simply refuses the monitor as it claims it's not supported (seems to think it's a different monitor). No way around this and Samsung is notoriously bad for supporting older models. So, it still works as a regular monitor, but calibration is now bricked and no way to get it back. That makes the color accuracy (the whole point for the XL series) a non-feature. I wish the software would allow to calibrate anyway, even if the current configuration is not in the list. Especially when it SHOULD work but doesn't because apparently some code is not updated!I have no confidence Samsung will step out of their shadow on this one. Support is likely to be permanently outdated.

If I have personally gleaned anything from ownership of this monitor and perusal of the reviews for it and another model, the syncmaster 204b, it would be that I am clearly less discriminating than many other users. My primary use of the monitor is for WP and other productivity related office applications and in the 18 months I've owned it I haven't noticed anything that would qualify as a significant issue or complaint with performance. I have preference for the 16:10 wide screen format and this monitor does not distort images or give any indication of stretched text. Essentially the default settings were more than acceptable however by tweaking display via my Nvidia graphics card control panel the minor concerns I had were easily rectified.While movie/Video viewing is not a high priority, I have used it for each as well as basic photo editing. For the former usages, color reproduction has been on a par with what I have experienced with Samsung LCD TVs and that's a positive statement. At its' default setting, the monitor is extremely bright but the control panel options render that a non-issue as the menu system is very intuitive. Visual acuity varies with each user but I found the monitor to be least irritating by disabling the MagicColor setting since with a few applications text looked fuzzy to me. Initially, for photo viewing via windows photo gallery, there is a sepia hue that enveloped the image but it is not duplicated with third party software applications such as Corel or Adobe. I suspect that effect could also be corrected by playing with the settings however in as much as I do not actually do anything with photo gallery it's a trivial issue for me.The minor complaints I have about the unit is from some side viewing angles the screen colors can appear washed out with brightness at higher settings, it only has up/down ergonomic adjustment and cord management can be a challenge . If you can find this monitor at a competitive price (I bought it at substantially less than what is listed here) I would not hesitate to pick it up.

I bought the monitor in "used / very good" condition, but when it arrived and I plugged it in there was a small black line across the screen. The seller accepted the return without any problems, which is all anyone can ask. I really appreciated not having the headache of having to fight for a return credit.

Do not buy Sumsung SyncMaster monitors. I bought a 913v and the thing went black after about a year of use. I troubleshooted it but something failed inside. Samsung obviously cut corners with this waste of a monitor. F rating. U for useless.

I got this to use as a second monitor for my 20" aluminum iMac. Didn't have the room or need for another widescreen monitor. Fits in great. The screen's physical height is exactly the same as the iMac and the stand lets me raise it to the same level. Pixel height is 26 lines less, but it's not noticable.The monitor comes with both a VGA and DVI cable! But for the iMac I needed to get a mini DVI to DVI adaptor from Apple. $20 if you don't already have one.Also, I have another PC nearby and was able to hook it to the monitor's VGA input. There's a front panel "SOURCE" switch that easily switches between DVI and VGA. That button and the others are "touch" types and can be hard to see in the dark. Also not arranged very logically.But it's going to work out very nicely.

This is a great monitor that has clear vivid resolution in a nice wide-screen format.The only thing that would be nicer is (as mentioned by several other of these reviews) if this screen could adjust it's position, at least up and down. Or if it was designed to offer a "mount-on-the-wall" option.But the screen is superior for the price so I would still buy it again...

This is my second monitor from Samsung. These are by far the best monitors and picture quality for the money, or even money aside these are fantastic monitors. OK so they don't send a true DVI cable, they do send a vga type cable and have a dvi/svga adapter. Think about it, it is for people to upgrade their old style monitor. If you have a graphics card with the DVI already then shop on Amazon (or eBay) and find a cable for around 10-12 bucks. I don't know why people say there is no tilt or adjustment. The tilt is very stiff but you can easily tilt the screen back. Up and down adjustment is not available, but you should know that before you buy. The base is good sized and very stable. The adjustment buttons are on the bottom front edge and you just reach up under with your finger tips. They are labled on a cool looking smoked plastic decorative edge. Very easy to set up and great pre-sets (games, movies, internet etc.) that allows you to switch with the touch of a few buttons. Don't miss a great monitor at a great price.

This is a solid monitor for the money, excellent picture with no dead pixels. My only complaint would be that the LED which blinks to indicate that the monitor has gone into energy saving mode is VERY bright.Due to poor packaging, the monitor arrived with a small crack on the front of the case. Deal-Stop.com offered to replace it at no cost but since it didn't affect the operation of the monitor I chose to keep it. Overall I'm quite satisfied with the purchase.

If you are looking for a monitor that doesn't cost a lot and it is pretty good quality with a brand name you recognize: then this is the monitor I would get (obviously I already did because I am now reviewing it).The only thing that I don't like about this monitor is the lack of tilt/angle movement. It has some ability to tilt, but it is not great at all. It is also hard to tilt if you can get it to tilt at all.Otherwise, it is nice and small and takes up less room that those stone age monitors. And the blue power light is pretty (but it is annoying when your PC is off...it blinks very brightly in the dark). So if you are a light sleeper, make sure you turn off the monitor too.Great picture quality! It is also pretty simple to keep clean of dust.

Excellent picture quality. I have a Samsung HLT6176S HDTV (love it) and a SyncMaster 943BWXTAA LCD monitor as well. So I bought this 953BW to compliment my 943BW in my work space in my bonus room. My only gripes are that the 953BW did not come with a DVI cable and the stand is not as adjustable as the 943BW. So, I'm using the DVI cable that came with the 943BW for the 953BW. I use the 953 for my personal computing and the 943 is for my job when I work from home.

I ordered this monitor from Amazon because, of all the brand name monitors I had researched, this monitor came the closest to meeting my requirements.Unfortunately, when the monitor arrived and I was configuring it, the problem began. Well, not really a problem in the purest definition. The monitor wants to default to 1940 x 1400, and I found during the install/configuring that my video card does not support that resolution. So, rather than modify the universe to fix the problem, I just returned the monitor to Amazon.So, it's a good monitor, just not for me.

DO NOT BUY IF YOU OWN AN EXPENSIVE ANALYZER. IT DOES NOT SUPPORT SPYDER 3 Pro. The ONLY analyzer that is supported in includedIt is supplied with a decent unit and a great Shade. I was unable to set up a monitor and print profile with my one year old HP Media center PC, and my Spyder3 Pro. The picture is fine not exceptional, and Tech support is possibly the best of any Electronic product on the market.

I tried for a month and more to make this monitor work with my late 2008 MacBook. First, no DVI cable came with the monitor. Then Apple's mini-DVI converter wouldn't work with the 2008 MacBook -- it has a DVI miniport, which is a different connection. When I finally got all the right cables, the monitor still wouldn't display. I got friends to check the connection -- the monitor runs fine with other computers in both digital and analog modes. I finally gave up and am using the VGA connection. The result is grainy and UGLY. There is no resolution setting that provides an acceptable image. I more or less hate it. Both Apple and Samsung insist the problem isn't with their product.

I am very pleased with the Samsung SyncMaster 9538W monitor. It is now a joy to watch my favorite video's with my new monitor. Using the flat screen makes for easier viewing of the written word. The controls are easier to use to set brightness and magic bright gives you options you don't have on the older monitors. I feel this is a very good product and would recommend this product for anyone.

Obviously for under $200 you don't expect to get the greatest monitor on earth, but this one is wonderful for the price. I'm using it as a second monitor to work with HD video in Final Cut Pro on my MacBook Pro, and it works flawlessly. Great picture quality, decent color and contrast. Some moron wrote a one star review saying it doesn't work with the latest MacBooks, but that simply isn't true.

Simply put doesn't work.I can't install windows on my new machinePowers up I get a picture for a whole 2 seconds then blank screen.I procrastinated on the system build for so long that I can't return this POS to Amazon and now have to deal with RMA through Samsung. I regret buying this. Also note that a 19" widescreen is like having a 15" normal LCD just wider.

My son got this monitor about 13 months ago. He is 17, almost 18 years old. It sits on his desk, with no temper changes or objects near by to damage it. He went out of town for 3 days and came back turned it on and it looks like someone through a baseball at the picture. The screen itself is intact but the picture is cracked all over. After calling Samsung and being on hold for over 15 minutes I was told that it's "PHYSICAL DAMAGE" and Samsung would not do anything about it. I asked if I had boughten the monitor 2 weeks ago and it did that would I get the same answer, he replied yes. I used to love Samsung... I have phones and a microwave by them along with a 21 yr old TV that still has a great picture, but now I will no longer buy any of their products. The only thing the rep kept telling me was " I'm sorry for the inconvienence" Thats a whole lot of help.... Think twice before buying any of their products as their warrenty isnt as cut and dry as they make it seem.

This is a great monitor for general use. I bought six of these for the office and there was not a single dead pixel among the six. The monitor is annoyingly bright using the default settings, but that was easy to adjust. Our desktops don't have DVI video cards but even using the VGA connection the picture is excellent. I imagine it would be even better using DVI.Overall it's a great step up from an old CRT or a smaller LCD.

Since Samsung is one of the largest LCD manufacturers in the world so the quality of the display in this monitor was never in doubt. What disappointed me was that Samsung choose to surround this nice LCD with cheap crap. The stand does not balance and is not adjustable in any manner. The monitor has both VGA and DVI outputs but only comes with a cheap VGA cable - even though today most computer systems use DVI.Samsung - your product designers need to think your designs through a bit more. Think like Apple or at least Sony, cause I need to buy more monitors, and this time I'm buying a Viewsonic.

This screen is fantastic. I would have given it 5 stars but the only issues I've had with it so far is that it doesn't seem to tilt back at all. It seems like it should but mine won't budge. Also it annoyingly blinks a little bright blue light when my computer goes into standby mode so it wakes me up at night; reminding me I need to turn it off if I'm going to get any sleep.It comes with a special cleaning cloth and everything. I just keep it near the screen to dust off. The image clarity is amazing and movies look great on it. I game with it and I don't have any glare issues which is perfect. I highly recommend this screen to anyone.

I have loved this monitor from the second I plugged it in.The colors are vivid and gorgeous. The black hues are rendered great. The refresh rate is awesome, no ghosting. All this through an analog connection (I have an older video card which did not connect digitally to the monitor).I am in the market for a new TV as well, and will seriously look at Samsung first after my wonderful experience.

The monitor itself works great. There was 1 pixel missing when I opened the product however. Over time, the metal pieces connecting the monitor to the stand have allowed gravity to take its toll - the pieces bent so that the monitor now looks down. I have it set really high on something and it is still kind of awkward. It is not able to be fixed either. This happened to both me & my brother, who also has the same monitor.

I received this monitor as part of a Dell system. When I opened the box I discovered a small dent in the upper right portion of the enclosure. Despite my gut feeling about returning it immediately I began using the monitor and had 5 months of faultless performance. At that time the unit would not power up. I contacted Samsung customer support and was mailed a replacement that arrived within 1 week.However, the refurbished monitor I received also would not work. It would not recieve a signal from the computer nor would the computer detect the monitor. I contacted customer service and was informed that they would send another replacement. I requested that I receive a new monitor but the request was refused despite talking also to someone in their executive division. They simply could not understand my desire to receive a new replacement instead of a previosly defective model in replacment of 2 defective units I had already received, as all the while the warranty period was being eaten up.Buyer Beware!

I am overly pleased with this monitor. It's capable of using any array of color/video settings, and has a great auto adjustment for setting the edges when you change the resolution. Hi-def is beautiful on here as well.

The Samsung SyncMaster 204b is alright for any normal computer. If you use 1280x1024 resolution however, you will be really pissed off. Don;t buy if your looking for a gaming monitor. Bad for graphic designers too. Good for use in normal family computer needs despite it's 1600x1200x32 problem.

It is a very nice monitor, very slim and light. The only flaw that I have found is that there is a problem with the base because it is very difficult to tilt. It could be that it was just a defect of the one I bought.

One of the best gaming monitors by far. I play in the Major League Gaming events and World Cyber Games events and they use these particular monitors on a world level. The 2ms lag time for the LCD technology is one of the best I've seen compared to some others, particularly the viewsonic which is over priced and Samsung just produces a better monitor, ( my opinion ) I play Halo 3 on it and the response time is outstanding, I recommend this monitor to anyone looking to game, not particularly use adobe with your mac or anything, but gaming 5 stars.

The picture quality of this monitor is GREAT! Since hooking it up I have watched a few HD shows and movies and they all look perfect. I have a Samsung HD TV so I figured as much as I love my HDTV I would get a Samsung monitor to match.The only reason I rated this monitor 4 stars instead of 5 is because I feel like Samsung took the cheap way out by not adding an adjustable tilt \ height stand and leaving out a DVI cable. Lucky for me I still had my cable from my old Dell monitor, but still come on, even that monitor came with both a DVI and VGA connection.

I bought my 910MP at Office Depot for premium price ($500+) nearly three years ago, and I was satisfied at first, even though the tv pic quality was not great. My chief interest was in computer-monitor use, which was acceptable, and I've almost always used the PIP to watch tv as I do computer work. The PIP tv image quality is much better than full-screen tv on this monitor.Audio quality was mediocre from the get-go, even though I didn't expect much from on-board monitor speakers. Later, the audio began to distort or to disappear occasionally, requiring me to re-power the monitor or to turn the audio volume WAY UP until audio came back ... then back down to listening level.I had a couple of very distracting stuck pixels (RED) dead-center after about a year ... but recently I found a suggestion online to MASSAGE the stuck pixels lightly with my finger, and by golly IT WORKED ... no more stuck pixels YAY!After 2+ years of fairly hard use (at least 8 hours each day and sometimes on for several continuous days), the monitor developed some other video artifacts (horizontal striping or banding) that only appear in tv-viewing mode or with certain full-color computer images. These troubles don't seem to be helped by the MASSAGE.I got what I expected (an acceptable computer monitor with tv tuner), but I felt I had paid too much at $500+, considering mainly the less-than-optimal tv viewing quality and the audio/video problems that have appeared over time.If you get a good price, and if you don't expect too much, this monitor may be a nice deal for you.

I bought this monitor for my wife to replace a dying CRT monitor. She's very happy with the color registration, refresh rate and overall performance. The calibration software included with the monitor is easy to use and works well.

I just love this monitor. It was reasonably priced, and it has no problem with any game I have, some are very graphic intensive and action filled. The picture is great, it is very bright. I have it on 15% brightness.

I bought two of these, so far so good. I do a lot of spreadsheet work and like the squarish format over widescreen, I am able to open 4 to 6 spreadsheet windows and place them all. With a widescreen, the vertical placement is difficult. I used them at work for hours on end, really comfy on my eyes. I am glad I got them. Am a bit leery about the problems mentioned, but so far so good. I hope they will make this squarish format for a long time to come and not go with the widescreen fad. I run it at 1600 x 1200, which is perfect for me. Hope the industry goes back to squarish monitors, much more practical for work, with spreadsheets and word processing, powerpoint, coding, etc. Widescreen just doesn't have the vertical distance.

Samsung SyncMaster 743BX 17" LCD MonitorI have had my Samsung SyncMaster 743 17" LCD monitor for three weeks. The monitor is great. I like the adjustable movements and the price. The monitor picture is also very good. I would play games using my old monitor and could not see the clues or picture very well. This monitor allows me to see all the cludes and/or pictures excellent. It was very easy to install, even for an "old lady". I highly recommend this monitor to anyone that needs or wants an adjustable monitor with a good picture at a reasonable price.

I bought one Samsung 204b a year and a half ago. 6 months later, I bought another one. I've been 100% satisfied with both. They're simple, streamlined monitors (i.e. no speakers, built-in USB, cameras, etc.), but that's exactly what I wanted.I have the two monitors connected to one computer, and rotated to portrait mode. See the "customer image" that I uploaded. This allows me to create, edit, and read Word and PDF documents in the way they were made to be read, without scrolling up and down. This also lets me see more of a web page, again without scrolling. The difference in ease and comfort has meant that I can do much more on the computer, without feeling that I need to print everything out. When I want to look at photographs that work better in landscape (normal) orientation, I can easily rotate the monitors back to landscape mode.

I bought this monitor back in February when it was first released. Out of the box everything was great. No dead pixels and a beautiful picture, you will only experience ghosting if you are really trying to find it (probably in a video game).The included software was less than desirable. If you ever have an issue with a video driver, the computer prompts you to re-install the Magic Rotation software after every reboot. After about 5 re-installs, I just un-installed Magic Rotation software for good. Not that I ever used the rotate feature other than to show it off to my friends. The Magic Zone software is also a joke, it assumes you use a one monitor set up. I use multiple monitors and if a video opens up on a different monitor, the Magic Zone would get confused and just highlight a part of the Samsung monitor even without a video being displayed on that monitor. Magic Zone got annoying enough that I was forced to disable it, it's a good idea, just needs some work. I'm pretty good with reading manuals and help files if I don't understand something. I gave up on Magic Contrast, perhaps someone can explain it to me, the help file must have missed inspection since I can't understand the English used. I wish this monitor didn't require the several drivers to work properly because at least 4-5 monitor related programs now need to startup with Windows.My biggest concern and if you are not bothered by anything else you read in this review I hope you take note of this one, the stand gives up after about 3 months. While Samsung presents this stand as the "World best height adjustment" (source: Samsung's website), after about 3 months you won't be able to adjust the height anymore. You will gradually notice the screen sag deeper and deeper and eventually the screen will settle about an inch off the base. I now use a Rubik's Cube to raise the screen to an acceptable viewing height. Reading over a few forums, just about everyone that owns this monitor will tell you the same about the height adjustment. Samsung will only send you a refurbished monitor if you call to complain about it, no doubt the refurbished monitor will carry the same issue. If all the known issues about this monitor don't bother you then by all means buy it because it presents the best colors, refresh rate, and contrast ratio. The picture on this LCD is awesome, I can't complain about how sharp everything looks. If Samsung ever decides to fix the stand issue or even recall the monitors with the stand issue then this monitor might actually be worth the price.

I love this monitor. With the 2ms response time I see no motion blur or ghosting with even the fastest action sequences, the resolution (1440x900) and color contrast (8000:1) is amazing. The clarity is incredible. Watching movies, editing pictures and playing games is a joy on this monitor and with the slim stylish design it looks great even when not in use.Check the technical specs and you won't find a better monitor in its class.Set-up and customizing is a breeze too.
