**UPDATED AFTER A YEAR OF USE**Coming in at around a hundred bucks, this new drive is definitely a contender in the realm of 1TB notebook drives, and so far is getting rave reviews on the internet. I don't like to buy into hype however, so I decided to buy one and take it for a test spin (pun intended). I normally buy everything off of Amazon, but for this drive I had to venture elsewhere (sadly).MISC INFORMATION:Backed by an industry-standard 3-year limited warranty.Average Seek Time: 12 msOperating Temperature: 5° F to 131 ° FLiner shock (operating): 325 GLiner shock (non-operating): 1000GTypical Read/Write Draw: 2.5WDESIGNFirst thing I want to talk about is the design. I believe this is the only 2.5" hard-drive on the market that is 9.5mm in height (as of 05/2011), rather than the usual 12mm. Now this won't make a huge difference for most people, but for those who want more storage in their ultra-slim laptop, or for people like me who wanted to add some storage to an Apple laptop via an optical driver adapter, this is the hard-drive to go with. Those extra 2.5mm can mean the difference between success and failure. Apart from that, this is your standard laptop drive. I must admit it is quiet, I can barely hear it over my laptop fan, even while seeking/powering up. The noise guard technology simply works.SPEEDIn my opinion, this is not the ideal drive for a main OS. At 5400RPM and 8MB of cache, you are looking at the lower end of the spectrum as far as drives go. If speed is very important to you I would highly recommend going with something like the Seagate Momentus XT 750 GB 7200RPM Drive, which I also use and it is night and day faster than the Spinpoint. While 5400RPM is the standard for most manufacturers (including Apple), that does not make it ideal, and there are better drives to be had. That said, for a large percentage of users, this drive will be a great choice, it offers reasonable speeds, low noise and a huge amount of storage! For all intents and purposes, for ME this is a storage drive, and in that capacity it functions VERY well. I have added my XBench results in the "Customer Images" section for your consideration. With an average seek time of 12ms and an average initial response time of close to 4ms this drive is not at the top, but well within normal ranges.FUNCTIONALITYSo I have been using this drive for a little while now, and have gotten to know it a little better. This is an excellent storage drive and is pretty snappy in response times - I have it set to sleep when not in use to conserver energy, and it only takes a second or two to wake up and be accessible. I installed Photoshop on it to see how it would react, and while it was definitely useable it didn't have the slick response of my primary Momentus XT drive. That said, it wasn't half bad and would definitely work in a pinch, or if you are a regular user without the need for the fastest hardware available. Of course the biggest attraction for this drive will be the giant 1TB storage space. It is excellent to not have to worry about external drives coming with me as I work, as well as having my entire iTunes collection constantly at my fingertips.WHY 5 STARS??- Fits in most laptops out there, including ultra-slim (+)- Price is more than competitive for this hardware, a hair faster than competitor drives (+)- Extremely quiet (+)- 2x500GB platters vs 3 platters on other drives (+)- Works with Optibay Adapter for Macbook/Pro (+)- 3 year industry-standard warrantyOVERALLI am still extremely pleased with this drive, and if Samsung's other products are anything to go off of, I don't expect many problems with it. The price is right, let's not forget that a 1TB hard-drive for your desktop or even externally topped the two hundred dollar (or more) mark just last year! In the year that I have owned it, I have had ZERO problems, and it has even been used in several different machines. It's fast, quiet, and adds 1TB of internal storage to my laptop - there really is just no complaining about this.Don't let my comments about speed scare you off from this drive - I consider myself a power user, and my day to day workflow involves some very hardware-intense operations. If you are using this for a work/social/gaming computer, you will be just fine!Highly recommended!

It did take me a little time to format this item to be used with my ps3, BUT I also was using a dino computer. All-in-all, once formated and put into my ps3, works like a charm. 1TB of space reduced to 929 gb after everything was install, (minus games and other misc stuff) have been using constantly and no problems what-so-ever.Conclusion, best investment ever!

It came carefully packaged, inserted in 2 plastic handles that placed the hd in the center of the box, so there was no way it could touch it.Took it out of the box and into the ps3, restored my backup and downloaded all the games from psn+ that i couldn't download before for lacking the space.No problems whatsoever. So good, that later i bought 3 more for my friends ps3's and no problem with those either.

It came in an excellent box, perfect protection, works great but didn't ship with original box, also came with slight scratch of wear. maybe it doesn't come with boxes, but just that complaint, but hey 1 tb for laptop at this price. just awesome it has above 90mbps read and write, i replaced my macbook pro stock 750 gb (2011) and put the 750 gb in optical bay, so i have 1750 gb storage, gonna upgrade the other drive soon, but i'm gonna buy another 1 tb, i just want to see if theres better once. btw it doesn't heat up as much as the stock 750 gb, and you could barely hear it.This Drive is Perfect I bought this drive around 3 weeks ago, it works like charm, same speed as macbook pro late 2011 hard drive. I love it, i also purchased a second one to replace my optical bay, now I have them in RAID 0, 2 tb + 160 read and write speed, sweet. but I'm just saying, when theres 2 babes in this bad boy, the noise is not loud but it sounds like the fans at low speed.it's not annoying though. If you Raid 0 this drive for a mac os, since you cannot verify disk, or repair disk you run the risk to your mac crash and lose all your data, right now i haven't backed it up so i'm scared. the other day I opened all the programs on RAID 0 to test the speed difference, then I turned the mac off, back on, and RAID set was missing, I lost all my data, so i was tight, but since i'm just a teen, there was no important data, lucky for me. i have used up .09 tb (90 gb )1 month updateOk this bad boy's great in ps3 but for some reason my ps3 keeps getting corrupte hard drive, the lights went out and i had to format the drive, my ps3 was installing a demo. It frose i restarted it and it got corrupted. I restored the file system and it corrupted in less than 2 weeks, going to restore database and see how it goes..

When I purchased my new PS3 I wanted a big 1 TB hard drive so I bought the PS3 with the smallest hard drive (it was much cheaper).I went on youtube and learned what to buy (Samsung SpinPoint SATA 5400rpm 8 MB Cache 1 TB 2.5-Inch Hard Drive from Amazon)) and how to install it. I did this, then I went to many Game stores for the fun of it. I never once found one that knew anything bigger than a 500GB hard drive so I informed them what I found out....this made their world a lot bigger. It can yours also if a 1 TB Hard drive is what you want in you Sony PS3. My pleasure...GoodGuyJohn

I installed this into my lap top compputer to replace a 160 GB hard drive that was full. I did have to purchase Windows 7 to get an operating system. It seems as fast or faster than the drive it replaced. I didn't like losing or not finding drivers for printer and scanner online that I use with the computer because of the system upgrade and I lost the Skype account because of the upgrade. It works fine and gives me much more storage than I had.

IT works perfectly and silently, without any noise or problems. I would have to say if I ever drop my laptop or accidentally damage the HD, this would be the one I would replace it with.

This Samsung hard drive is manufactured by Seagate. That comforts me considering my previous Seagate Maxtor 120 GB hard drive has lasted 6+ years thus far. It still works.I trust Seagate.I installed the hard drive on an aged 2006 Dell Inspiron e1705 / 9400 laptop. Drive is very quiet and seek time's a little slower. No surprise here given it's 1 terabyte. Installation a snap, although hardware screw proved to be difficult to remove. Yet, that's a Dell issue -- not Seagate.BIOS recognized the drive. Windows 8 running on it. Drive performs quietly.I will update as time goes on. Will potentially update in 1 month.

I own both this drive and the Western Digital WD10JPVT - nearly identical drives, but there are a few differences.At the end of the day, I'd end up purchasing the Samsung M8 for a few reasons.I'm usually a WD fan, but the Samsung M8 is faster in most practical user situations. Most reviews will state the WD drive as being faster, but that is only with very large file copy sequences - writing/reading files in this way is not what most people want a drive for.The Samsung M8 is zippier with practical file operation - such as flowing through large batches of music or photography. If you edit photographs, the Samsung will be faster. If you are moving large batches of HUGE files (such as ISO's, disc images, etc), the WD will be faster, but only by 3-4 MB/s. For how much faster the Samsung is in most areas (nearly double the speed, 40mb/s vs. 20mb/s), getting the Samsung is more practical.The Samsung is almost double the speed of the WD with most file operation, such as editing photography or flowing through music.Ben

I signed up for PlayStation Plus and all the free games, updates, movies, demos the list goes on and I realized I need a bigger hard drive and this drive works great!!! More space, good performance in the PS3... Quick and easy job! Just e sure to back up your saves on a usb drive and if you're a Plus member copy your saves to the Cloud

I purchased this drive elsewhere because amazon would not ship it to Hawaii.Originally I wasn't sure about using it in my macbook pro because of something that the other reviewer said: "If you are purchasing this for an OS drive, and the 8MB of cache wasn't a warning sign, then you are on your own. At 5400RPM and 8MB of cache, you really shouldn't be using this for an OS drive, or even as a secondary application drive."I am pleased to report that the above statement is not true. Originally, my 2011 macbook pro came with 320GB 5400 rpm drive. Apple considers them good enough to be included as standard. I installed this Samsung drive in my macbook and it works even better than the one that it came with from Apple. It definitely feels much faster than the Apple's 320GB drive. Later on I came across some benchmarks that someone posted online of the Samsung drive, and they were the best in class and even exceeded some 7200 rpm drives' benchmarks. My point is if you are considering using this drive as your primary mac os drive, it is a good choice. Don't listen to this other reviewer. My personal plan is: use this Samsung 1TB as a primary OS drive until the prices for Solid State Drives (SSD's) drop, and then install an SSD in addition to this. SSD will be my primary OS drive and I will use this nice Samsung drive for "deep storage."Some other things that I wanted to point out. The drive is very quiet. In fact, it is silent. I don't hear it working. I've heard that some 7200 rpm drives are audible. This one is not. If you appreciate silence, this is a drive for you.I monitor temperature using iStat and it runs nice and cool.I used it for over a months now and I don't have any complaints. My boot times, shut downs, application launches are quicker than the ones I experienced with the stock Apple drive. Knowing that it is a Samsung gives me a peace of mind; I suspect it will last, but I still back up often using the Time Machine (it's a good habit to have).It is a good investment. Highly recommend.

I bought this for my ps3 slim. After doing the back up of my old hard drive, I installed this one within minutes and then did the system restore and couldn't be happier.

Product came on time and in perfect shape. I installed it into my PS3 next day and haven't noticed a problem since then. Runs just as smooth as original 160 gig hard drive and I'll never have to worry about data again.

I was hesitant on writing an immediate review of the Samsung 2.5" 1.0tb HDD without giving it some real field testing.However, 1yr has passed since I put this in my gaming laptop and it's held up nicely.The read/write times are acceptable considering that my laptop originally had a 350gb HDD. But my initial intention was maximizing my internal HDD storage space, memory and adding an XBox controller so I could have a decent portable Windows 7 gaming system when I visited friends, gone to the park, etc.

This is my third purchase of this product (other two were from a different seller). This product from Amazon came on time and was in excellent condition. When I got this hard disk after the first purchase, I had difficulties getting customer support, because Samsung customer support had been outsourced recently. This time I knew exactly what to do and started using it after appropriate set up. I recommend this product, because it has high capacity, it is quiet and has been trouble-free.

Here's hoping it lasts longer than the hard drive I had to replace with this one. Pretty good performance but I'm not really an expert on these things. It's definitely faster than the drive I replaced it with.

Had in MBP 2011 and the clicking was terrible. Did the APM adjustments as best I could -- finally it stopped. Switched to mac mini -- problems re-emerged. I'd stay away from it if Mac user.
