Basic phone but does the trick
I used this phone while travelling around europe for three months. the phone works just fine, and is perfect as long as you are not looking for anything advanced. This is definetly a basic phone with very basic features. If you are looking for a cheap option, short-term phone while traveling which you can use for texting and phone calls then this phone will work just fine.

A question on usage
I just bought my phone. it comes with an adapter and then with one more adapter plug. Nowhere in instructions it is explained what the second adapter plug is for, nor does Samsung has a clue. It would be very helpful if somebody who used this phone can tell me what the second plug is for? Thank you very much!

Good Buy
Excellent and great cheap buy. Phone is cheap and reception is excellent. Battery life is great. it is the phone I am currently using while traveling and it works great.

I received it, charged it and added a SIM card.
It seems to work. It recognized the SIM card. I have not yet made any phone calls with it.
The model I received was a Samsung GT-E1080W.
The menus were in English.
The charger connector is a proprietary Samsung plug. But that is OK with me.
The only issue I had was that when I plugged it in to charge, there was no charge indicator on the screen. If you press the # key, the screen lights up and you will see "charging".

Perfect phone for a trip abroad. Recommended at any price!
This phone is perfect. My daughter was heading to study abroad in Beirut. I ordered this from Amazon.com for here. She was very easily able to switch the setting on the phone from German to English and to pop in a pre-paid minutes card in Beirut. Now I can skype to this phone and it costs nothing on this end and very little for her, and she has a phone to use to talk and text with her friends there. I highly recommend this phone. Do not hesitate to buy it.

Samsung E1080 cell phone
The phone arrived on time and its price was excellent. Our usual cell phone is essentially useless in Europe, so we purchased this one for a European trip. This phone is NOT designed to work here in the states. It requires a SIMM card, which can be purchased here, but purchasing a local card on your arrival may be cheaper. A local address may be required to purchase the card. A relative's address seems to be acceptable, but it might be wise to check out acceptable alternatives if a relative is not available.

Unlocked international phone
I read all the reviews on Amazon of the different phones available and used oversees before I bought the Samsung . Most of the reviews (which I really do rely on for my purchases) came back to the Samsung. I am not going to use it until September but so far it charged, I was able to set it and BEST of all it came in English so I did not have to convert it from German. Will let you know next year when I return how it works.

Do NOT buy
Please do not buy this phone.
I had a great vaction to Ireland.
This phone did not work like I hoped for.
Very had to use!! When you call someone, it rings back to you. You then have to accept call there is a long pause and sometimes you could call, most times you can not. Also you can not call the U.S.A. while overseas.

Nice, simple phone that works
Took a trip to Ukraine September 2010 with Samsung E1080 phone.
Signed up with KyivStar provider, and never looked back.
Phone worked just fine on the trane, on the bus, in small towns, big towns and everywhere in between.
I'm keeping this phone for my next trips anywhere in Europe.
Oh, and remember that this phone will NOT work in US.

awesome phone for traveling.
I love this phone for traveling in the EU. I also brought my Droid 2 global which worked fine also. The droid was nice when I could find a hotspot but that wasn't often. The Samsung E1080 was much more useful since the battery was amazing which is much more useful then a dead phone that has internet.

completely basic but functional phone for overseas travel
This is a completely basic phone. I purchased it for use on a trip to the uk. It worked completely fine, no problems at all.

This phone is in German
This phone is in German and it was impossible for me to figure out whether it's possible to switch it to English and how to do so. Instructions are not clear about changing the language, neither was the description of this phone on Amazon. Also, the phone seems too small to comfortably send and receive text messages.

Great phone for international travel!
I recently went to the UK and Ireland. I brought along this phone (which doesn't work in the US). I purchased a SIM card for 10 Euro at one of the many mobile phone shops. They even installed it and activated it for me. Worked perfectly for keeping in touch with my friends and travel companions!

Great phone
I took this phone with to England to work at the Paralympic Games. It worked wonderful. I used the alarm feature on it a lot, as well as the phone. Just purchase the sim card and you are good to go. Will use it again on future trips.

Error signal on making calls, eventually would not turn off
This phone had incapacitating faults.Error signal was produced on making calls, no combination worked. Sometimes the calls went through. Calls were received sucessfully. Eventually the phone would not turn off and became junk.
The phone is light and has good battery life. But the one I had was more trouble than useful.

Don't use it in South America!
Doesn't have Spanish menu, also in Venezuela only works with Digitel. it does not work with every operator, is dual band, especially for Europe.
Also, it comes with a charger with a European plug, so if you want to charge it before you leave the states, you'll need an adapter.

Cheap, Cheap Cell
You will be wasting your money if you purchase this phone, not worth the buy. I don't recommend, it won't work internationally the phone did not even close in the battery side. Not worth it!

IMPOSSIBLE to use!! The phone came in a language I have never seen before!
Do not buy this phone!! It is impossible to use the phone because I can't read the language to know how to change the language to English. It is NOT in German, as advertised!

Works great for the price!
This phone worked well for a trip to Europe and we didn't have any problems while traveling. Great price! Recommended to several friends and would purchase again if needed!

очень разочарована, потому что запрограммирована на немецком. Найдя, чтобы сменить язык : французского нет !!!!!!!!
