1. You must use Display Port or HDMI2 to get full resolution and refresh. HDMI 1 will only give you 30Hz. Many Laptops/c-Docks etc will only drive 30Hz at Full resolution.
2. If you can't get the resolution you thought you were buying look at the equipment you are driving the monitor with. Most likely, your real limitation is there.
3. Default settings are a bit bright for my personal tastes. YMMV.
4. The VESA mount holes are very high on the back of this monitor. They are not centered Vertically as with most monitors.. If mounting with any other model on a multi bar based system, your monitor not align well due to the placement of the mount plate. (This is the ONLY reason I didn't give this monitor a solid 5 Stars. It's not a complaint, just an observation.
Bottom Line. This is a great entry foray for me into 4K. Just make sure your equipment is up to the task.
Disclaimer. I did not rate this monitor for gaming performance since I purchased it solely for Home Office work and video editing.
As some of the other reviews indicate these are very bright. You have to tone them down. Also I selected the "stand up" viewing angle which seemed to make the brightness and contrast pretty close to what I'd consider normal for office work.
Contrary to one of the Q&As it does not, as far as I can tell, support HDMI daisy chaining. The two HDMI ports are both inputs to support the PIP from two HDMI sources. PIP can use one HDMI and the Display Port. I've tried all combinations of using them and the display port as inputs and outputs. None of them functions as an output. If there is a menu setting to enable HDMI daisy chaining I'm not seeing it and it does not show up in the user manual. Fortunately I have a dock with two HDMI outputs. So far this is my only complaint. For the money I can live without it.
Of the 6 monitors I have on personal computers, 6 are Samsung, and 4 of those are the Samsung 28-inch UE570 UHD 4K monitors.. (I don't count the monitors on work computers because they are provided by my employer who is more interested in cost)..
So what don't I like about it..
1) there isn't a simple way to select which of the 3 video inputs to use, and it auto switches if the current channel goes away (as in the computer reboots).
2) The VESA mount on the rear is near the top of the monitor.. In some cases this makes the monitor too low when mounted on a adjustable monitor arm..
Would I recommended this monitor?? Having bought 4 over the past years is as strong a recommendation I can make.. I wish I had enough to buy one more :-) .. flk
Overall I initially was happy, the monitor was as described, this monitor was intended for secondary use as a utility monitor(Movies, youtube, internet, discord, etc) to replace my old Samsung that was from 2008, this monitor was never intended for gaming use and I do not recommend it for gaming, I have 144Hz 1ms GtG for gaming by Asus for my gaming monitor.
Initially, the picture quality and brightness were solid for the price, a little bright but noting settings couldn't adjust, although I was disappointed with the lack of settings I could adjust, but again, for the price, I wasn't overly concerned about that.
This would be a highly recommend second monitor if it wasn't for the fact that in under a month dead pixels started to show up.
This would also be a 5 star review if it wasn't for said early onset of dead pixels, I have used Samsung for decades and I rarely ever have issues as I stated above this was to replace a monitor from 2008 that still perfectly works with zero issues.
I am not seeking a refund but I would be inclined to give this monitor a second chance if it was replaced as it SHOULD have a warranty.
Initially another complaint was any view slightly off angle turned the display blue. Setting the Samsung Magic View angle setting to "Group" solved this issue. Pretty much the only setting that works as advertised.
VESA mount at the top that leaves the bottom of the monitor still sitting on your desktop -2 stars
Come on Samsung think these things through.
While the display is very light weight (I did not weigh it), it's much lighter than the 2011 HD display that I'm using. The display is mounted landscape mode about 32-36 inches from my face. It's set at 3840x2160 with a 125% scale factor within MS Windows. the display area of the screen measured at 24-3/8" x 13.5". Doing the math, this (1.80556) does not match up with 16x9 (1.77778). Need to test with imaging. But for the moment, my initial reaction, is that the images look OK although the orange background color that I have on a Hanns-G HZ281HPB that I've been using for over 6 years, seems darker, "richer" (?), than I seem to be able to adjust the Samsung to be. The Samsung seems a little washed out, but I will fiddle some more. I'm writing this before spending any time calibrating -- this is my first impression.
I am checking out the initial settings (I just installed this) because it seems very bright... there is a button-joystick behind the monitor at the lower right corner:
Samsung "Magic Bright: Custom
Brightness: 100 (out of 100) changed to 30 (I have a lower light office)
Contrast 75 / 100 (changed to 50), no immediately obvious change to me -- display still looks great
Sharpness 64 / 100 changed to 52 (50 was not an option, 48 or)
Color (Red, Green, Blue, Color Tone & Gamma) was all set at 50% values.
Samsung Magic" Angle: Off
HDMI Black Level: Normal
The "Picture-In-Picture" mode can be set side by side, so it's not quite what I think of with Picture-In-Picture, but if you want to simultaneously have multiple systems displayed, this might be a useful feature; not so much for me.
I am quite happy and I wouldn't buy another one until I fiddle some more, I am happy with it. I'll look at some video shortly.
Update (Late June '19): Been using the monitor; it developed/didn't notice a bad pixel square in the middle. Amazon/Samsung replaced the monitor w/o hassle (points there!). Video, text, everything on this is really sweet. I'm using a Hanns G 1080x1920 (portrait mode) next to it and I'm beginning to want to replace it with another Samsung. The text on the LU28E570DS/ZA is crisp and clear. The "recommended" setting is at 150%, I am loving the sharpness and readability at 125% (@the recommended 3840x2160 resolution).
The night light is cute, I'm not weighing in on its effectiveness (at this point).
Update (April 2020):
Loving it. The replaced monitor has been flawless, no bad pixels. I'm loving the clarity and detail.
Shame on Samsung for marketing this display as a desktop computer monitor. Shame on Amazon for flagging it as an “Amazon Choice.”
Side note, the stand that comes with the UE570 allows no adjustments whatsoever: no height adjustment, and no vertical tilt adjustment. I had to set it on a stack of books to even try it out. Reminds me of our first PC monitors decades ago!
HDMI and Display port cables included is always a plus.
Coming from 1080p IPS monitor to this Samsung, there is difference in color between the middle and edge of the screen because of the viewing angle. There are some settings that help but you can't eliminate it. After about a week, this problem is less noticeable but it is one thing to consider if color is important to you or you are coming from an IPS monitor. Also the VESA mount holes are towards the top of the panel rather than the center. I had to adjust my monitor mount on my desk to accommodate this (I did not use the provided stand).
The price is unbeatable for 4K. I've held out on buying a 4K monitor because the prices are have been expensive for so long but this may be the best value you will get for the foreseeable future.
Definitely recommend!
I adore this monitor, but it is worth noting that I am not a graphic designer or hardcore gamer or anything like that. It's entirely possible that this monitor is missing features that experts would immediately notice and be annoyed by. However, as a layperson who spends a majority of their day on the computer, I can say that this provides an incredible amount of detail over a large screen. If you're looking for a clearer image when you browse the internet or if you want to watch 4k videos on YouTube, this monitor will do the job at a low price.
