Because of my seemingly critical title I want to stress that these are pretty good cans and the mic ain't bad either. To give context to my review I usually listen to my music through either my Sennheiser HD595 Dynamic High Grade Performance Premiere Headphones or my Shure SE215-K Live Sound Monitor, Black. So while I don't get caught up in stuff like burn-in, I do have an ear for quality.The first thing I noticed right off the bat was the bass: It's heavy! If you're a fan of dubstep, rap, or even jazz I don't think you'll be disappointed, especially since as I've been listening to them, my ears seem to have acclimated to the blacksharks sound reproduction. The highs are crisp and clear, which really helps bring through many gaming sound effects and human speech. Sadly, the mids just don't compare. Even now they still sound a bit muddy, not to mention when I first put them on. Like with many closed-ear designs, the sound is a touch echo-y and I suspect that to be the cause of the poor mid and less-than-crystal-clear bass. Since I've harped on the mids twice now, I feel it only fair that I re-mention how sick the bass is. Sadly, I'm not looking for sick, I'm looking for balance.The detachable mic is not only nifty, it's also simple to manipulate and of a reasonably high quality. It has three points of articulation allowing you to get it into that sweet spot, wherever it may be for you. Removing the mic is exceedingly simple and reattaching it is almost as easy. Not quite sure why someone would need to remove the mic from their PC headset, but it works well and they throw in a metal cap to cover the socket when empty.The Blackshark is also fairly comfortable. The cup cushions only began to hurt my ears after a 4-6 hour gaming session and that's probably only because of my glasses (not the fault of the headset). The head strap felt nice and I never found myself wanting to take the headphones off unless I was listening to my music too loudly. In fact, my only complaint with the design is that the metal part that keeps the cup from tilting in and out too much (\ / or / \) rattles intermittently against the metal frame. The chord, with adapter, is of an appropriate length, though why they would have a combined headphone/mic jack as the primary connector instead of making it the adapter for a more typical two-part plugin is beyond me. Either way, it was only the slightest bother and I don't see it becoming a real issue to most people.All in all, I give give the Razer Blackshark a 75/100. The mic is solid and convenient, the design is mostly practical yet stylistically distinct, and the sound reproduction will successfully pander to those with a taste for gaming or today's popular music. However, if you're looking for a rich yet balanced aural experience, these can might end up missing the mark. Then again, maybe I should've given them a chance to burn in before reviewing them. :Pp.s. while writing this review, I finally found the left/right cup indicators on the inside of the frame above the cup. For some reason I had a hard time finding it.

So my SteelSeries 5HV2 headset was finally starting to fall apart after 4 years of heavy use for every game you can think of that has voice communication via headset.I searched high and low for new headsets and think I spent over 2 months reading reviews and looking at music headphones and mics to place on my computer table. Ultimately, I lucked out when I was looking at razer's headphone offerings and caught a glimpse of the Blackshark headset.I had read about this headset on Tom's Hardware some months ago and thought to myself those look awesome at the time. I didn't want another pair of plastic headphones that would creak and fall apart eventually. So metal was one of my 'wants' for the new pair. Lo and behold the Blackshark provides.From the other reviews it said that the bass was going to be over the top, which after I plugged these in and started up Battlefield 3 on Caspian Border, I can say the bass is 'awesome' for games. For music the bass might be somewhat overstated. However, to my ears even the mids and highs are well represented amongst the deep pounding lows.The mic really picks up my voice waaaaay more than the SteelSeries I had before did, and I had to turn down the inbound mic in my volume properties so I wouldn't blast the eardrums of my clan mates at N00bsalad.The build quality is excellent. The orange cord is thick and soft and nicely flexible. The boom for the mic is really nice and stays where I adjust it to (hint: keep it more away from your mouth, it will pick up your voice just fine). The headband is really nice, not too tight and not loose at all. The ear cups are actually smaller than I was expecting. I was expecting full over the ear cups, however, the cups on this headset are actually more on the ear type, which I had expected not to like. BUT, the foam inside is memory foam, super soft, and they form a great seal over my ear and are actually really comfortable. My ears do get a little sweaty after 3-4 hours (yes I am hardcore) but a quick wipe down and I'm ready to put the headset back on and keep rolling for another 3-4 hours.In conclusion:Pros: Sounds good, mic is great, build quality is better than past headsets, metal components, I think it looks good. Feels good. All in all, money well spent. Music sounds good too.Cons: My ears get sweaty after 3-4 hours, but that might be a personal problem. The head set is expensive at over $100, but honestly probably best headset I've purchased ever. Bass can get overwhelming if you turn it up above stock via volume controls, if you leave the stock equalizer in place the bass is just about perfect.

These headphones look cool, huh? In my opinion, having owned them and seen them in person, they are. I especially like the microphone boom. Fully adjustable and looks wild. The green cord seems very nice and sturdy. Have not had any issue with it. I'm not a fan of the braided cables. They usually, internally I guess, knot up for me.Very very comfrotable. I can wear these for a few hours without needing to take long breaks from using them. The sound quality and cancellation is great. Looked all over the box for how many channels of sound it had, but those specs were nowhere to be found. Found out online it is only Stereo. "Ain't nobody got time for that!", you say? It's still really good quality folks regardless. Crank up the volume and the sound doesn't leak. Hard for people nearby to hear it. I think most software can virtualize 5.1 or 7.1 surround anyway, so don't sweat it. You can definitely enable bass boost which is great for action gaming.Most PC and PC Gaming headsets are now USB. A minimal of 5.1 surround sound and even 7.1. These headphones actually use a standard mic input cable and require no drivers. It comes with a splitter so you can get the MIC functionality. The MIC boom if not used can be removed and a metal piece placed in the hole from where you remove it so it looks nice. As an owner of a 15" Retina Macbook Pro 2012 and a 27" iMAC 2012, I can tell you it has been a little discouraging going with these headphones. You'll notice on newer products from Apple they only have the headphone jack input, not the MIC one. There does not seem to be a way around this. I got an external usb card that has both headphone and mic input. This solves my issue, but wouldn't be necessary if it would just use USB right? This isn't really a Razer issue, but something to keep in mind. After all, most people have desktops with MIC inputs anyway so it shouldn't be an issue for you.I recommend these for anyone who likes a little flare, razer color, wants great quality, has some cash to burn.

What's great about it: Design - they look greatWhat's not so great: Sound - sucks as headphonesI was looking for a average headset that I can use on my computer, phone and game consoles...using the appropriate adapters of course. Razer's Balcksharks were perfect according to the specs. I was so excited finding what I was looking for. So I got them as a Christmas present for myself. The Blackshark felt a bit fragile, but something I can deal with. The design thou is great. I put them on and didn't look like a total tool.But before I even tested it out on the computer. I open up itunes and hooked up the Blacksharks. The song was Scream and Shout with Will I Am and Britney. All I heard was the background music, the medially and the background vocals. Oh and Britney. Will I Am were not heard. I tried Aerosmith, Queen, Fun and Blackeye Peas. Same problem. Missing parts of the song. I hooked up my old headphones and everything was fine.To be honest, I didn't bother to hook them up on my computer. The Blacksharks were supposed to be used via headphone jack. Even comes out of the box with the headphone cord attached. If it can't do that right. It's not going to do anything else that it is suppose to be able to do.I really did not expect great sound...but I did expect them to be at least decent.It's the 25th of December of 2012...am getting up early on the 26 so I can return these. I never have been disappointed on Christmas till now. Thanks Razer for the wonderful experience.All I can say, Buy at your own risk. Sad really, They do look awesome.

I've been using this headset for gaming, Pandora streaming, VOIP for about 24 hours and I can't say that I'm either happy or totally dissatisfied with them.The build quality seems to be fantastic besides the joint in which the MIC boom connects to the headset itself. Doesn't seem like it can take the abuse like other headsets I've owned. The sound is just ok, the enhanced bass is obnoxious. I had to tinker with windows 7 audio settings just to make it somewhat decent.ATTENTION BIG HEADS: This headset is not nearly as comfortable around the ears as a Plantronics Gamecon headset(which is a lot less at $75). I'm sure it will take some time for it to break in a bit and become for comfortable but out of the box its tight. Now I don't have a tremendous head like Stewie from Family guy, but its larger than average. I find myself taking off the headset from time to time just to let my ears breath.The lack of a volume control/mute mic switch on the cord is a big turnoff as well. The microphone itself is fantastically clear according to others in games and over VOIP in comparison to my previous headset.Finally, I wouldn't recommend this product. If the price tag was around the $75 mark I would...but at $119, not worth it.

I have had this headset for about 2 weeks now and after some long gaming sessions I can tell you they are even more comfortable than they look. By far the most comfortable I have ever owned and the noise isolation is the best as well. While not active noise canceling, they block almost all background noise allowing you to game with lower volumes than would normally be required of other head sets. Even with glasses on the leather padding allows for longer gaming sessions. I also love the that it has a combined headphone and microphone jack as that is the way my laptop input is set up and it is compatible with my iPhone. The mic boom is detachable for use as normal headphones while gaming without need for a mic or listening to music. Headphones produce great bass levels and from what others say... Very clear voice from the mic. I actually look forward to taking these next time I want to listen to music from my phone on an airplane for the noise isolation (with the mic detached). Great product by razer.

I love this headset. I went from 5.1 surround headsets to this, and I was a little concerned about gaming with them. Happy to report that they work great for gaming of all types even FPS. Music sounds 1000x better than any of my 5.1's. I did have an issue with my mic that could have been caused by shipping. I contacted Razer and they sent me a replacement right away. I would highly recommend these to anyone looking for a very high quality PC headset.

First off, these headphones have about $125 worth of quality in them. Solidly built, quite comfortable, and the enhanced bass is DEFINITELY obvious, but this could be in part due to the 40mm drivers. I personally bought these headsets for a solid build quality more than sound quality, and if that is your primary concern, these headsets deliver. The sound quality is quite nice however, but I am no audiophile, and have never had a great pair of high sound quality to compare these to. If Razer sold these headsets with just basic color schemes, no Battlefield 3 stamped across, I probably would have purchased those instead of these, but I am still quite pleased with the headset. My big complaint comes in with the microphone: after owning this for about a week, the microphone is experiencing some slop in the movements, specifically at the rotating piece where the microphone plugs directly in to the headsets. I find this rather annoying, but does not inhibit the function or sound quality of the microphone in the slightest. I give it 4 stars due to the quality of these headsets, but the microphone is a rather significant part of the headset, so I consider the slop to be a somewhat significant issue.

Bought this about a month ago as it looked to have a lot of sturdy metal hardware on it so it could take some abuse. This design is almost perfect but they skimped out on where the microphone attaches to the headset. This area is all plastic and has a loose feel to it. It does not securely hold mic on a horizontal distance away from your face. I bought another headset from newegg for my brother and he broke the mic at this point. when looking at the damage the clamp to hold the mic in place was plastic had looked to have been secured with locktight. This should have been a threaded metal nut that could be adjusted for clamping pressure on the boom of the mic. Changes to the design I would also make would be to change out plastic cable guides out for metal ones, and change out the cable to a Kevlar corded cable like on Vmoda headphones with similar modular attachment to the headset.

They arrived in a timely manner and in excellent condition. I'm told that they fit well, are comfortable during long sessions of zombie killing, and provide excellent sound reproduction. The adjustability of the microphone and the headband are much appreciated.

The fact that the headset does not sit on your ears, (as long as you dont have giant ears) is great. The sound quality is very nice and I have no trouble with the mic.

I got these for my son. I was told that these are great. He loves that he can sisconnect the mic and listen to his songs on his phone with them and they have noise cancelling. Ive scared him so many times when I call him for supper.

Lets start off by saying this is a VERY comfortable headset, and looks great to boot! The audio quality is great and i like the fact you can plug it into you iPod/Android/CD player/Microwave (kidding). This is a very solid headphone and I do recommend buying if you like the look.The things that are not so great about this headphone is the Price (totally obscure i know) you are really paying for the looks on this one. The other problem is the Bass, IT HAS TOO MUCH BASS!! This can be fixed easily with programs like Dolby Home Theater, or other better programs but it is still an issue. The possibly worst fault is that it does not have a in-line volume or mute control. For "Gaming Headphones" this is a glaring fault in design, i would rather have only the computer jacks and an in-line control than the splitter.Overall i would get it for comfort and looks, but you could do better, I just really like Battlefield :)

I bought this headset at best buy for around $120. I upgraded from the turtlbeach px21 and the difference between the two are incredible first of all this headset has great noise cancelling and great audio the mic sounds good and is detachable this is the best headset i have bought.

This, initially, was a very good headset. The arm is articulated in all the ways you need it to be articulate, and the speakers cups were soft and comfortable. Speech came through very, very well, but music wasn't entirely perfect. To be fair though, this is not intended for music listening.1-star, because after two days of light use, the arm holding the mic fell apart at the only spot where it cannot be manually tightened and fixed -- the slider adjustment where it plugs into the left speaker housing.

It looks cool when worn. Totally feel like you are a helicopter pilot. Wonderful precision of sounds when playing game eg. Gun cocking, footsteps, bullets flying pass, etc. However, not very good music, audio for videos are still acceptable. Sturdy design. Oh too bad it's not 5.1 or 7.1 surround system. Overall still a good buy!

After around a month of use the boom microphone started to swing downwards by itself. The mechanism is already loose and this is what Razer should improve the next time they release an upgraded model. Everything looked almost perfect aesthetically except for this. The second con is that there is no volume control on the cord. However it is the loose boom mic issue that made me decide to return this otherwise awesome aviator headset. When Razer fixes this issue I'll re-purchase it again. Don't get carried away by the looks! Don't waste your money!

I'll have to agree with the other good reviews here, I have had these for a couple weeks and they are just awesome. The exposions are full of base and feel much more real than I have ever heard games. The materials are heavy and solid and feel great. They are worth the money.
