Several times a day, whether on bluetooth or wireless connection, the mouse will randomly lose power and disconnect. Removal of the battery, resetting it, switching between connection modes does not fix this. What does? I have no idea. It randomly comes back to life, sometimes after 30 seconds, sometimes after 10 minutes.
Absolutely unacceptable product quality given the price point. I've always heard about Razer's QC issues but this is absolutely unbelievable for a relatively simple device.
About Basilisk V2
Pro: Light weight, comfortable, good accuracy, new technology used in this mouse.
Con: 1. Mushy LMB feeling.
2. Bad Synapse 3 software will crash randomly and does not save your RGB color setting.
3. I dislike the scroll wheel. I never like the G502 scroll wheel already, this adjustable is just even worst.
The design was never really good with G502 since this is basically a clone. The wheel is too high, so it's hard
to
press, so I just use the tilt function of the wheel instead of pressing the wheel. For Basilks V2, I will
sometimes accidentally trigger the scroll button while scrolling down. If this happens more, I will just disable
the scroll wheel press button.
However, it is still a good mouse. Good feeling in the hand and good precision. Just with $99 CAD. I would like to see they improve the scroll wheel design and drop the resistance thing.
When I hold down the left mouse button, it randomly disengages, and sometimes when I release a click it double clicks. I sprayed some automotive sensor clean in it, and that helped for maybe a month, but now it's back again. All these random clicks are making it borderline unusable and screwing up my work. For $80, this is quite a rip off.
Also even when it's working right, it takes a full second to reengage after you've left it idle, even for just a few moments while gaming. This is frustrating.
The Good:
- Ergonomic. The side grippy material is comfortable and repels moisture. Very easy to clean as well and make new feeling again with a Lysol wipe.
- Lightweight. As a very casual gamer, I don't love the super lightweight construction, but for web browsing and casual computing, it's nice. The teflon pads on the bottom are very smooth too so it's like it floats across a decent mouse pad or surface.
- RGB. I like the idea of RGB, it seems like half the reviews online can get the software working correctly and half cannot.
The Bad:
- Software. This is my third Razer product, I had received the RGB mousepad and RGB headphone stand as a gift aaaand I like them for their intended design, again, I like the idea of having matchy matchy RGB, but the Razer Synapse software cannot keep you logged in. As far as my Googling can tell me, if you have a password on your computer it will not keep you logged in even if you tell it to remember your password. So your Razer RGB products will go random colours and your mouse will turn to a generic sensitivity until you log back in-- which gets annoying really quick.
If you don't have a password on your computer, you can probably avoid the major annoyance of this product. If you have a password on your computer, you will likely run into this problem and some people are just fine with it. There appears to be ways to fix this if you modify the driver files for it.

The paddle is superb as Hypershift.
Lots of customizable buttons placed in a great way.
Scroll wheel left/right clicks are helpful for switching browser tabs.
Scroll Wheel resistance is a nice touch. Profile button as well.
Small issue is that sometimes clicking the scroll wheel activates the left click since I need to apply force. Still, it's worth having those 2 side clicks.
The shape needs work. Perhaps a bit more width from the left side, a few mm more. It's slightly too thin. Rival 600 is still the most comfortable mouse with the best grip.
Not a fan of the sharp top area of the left/right clicks. Previous Basilisk was nicer and more professional looking.
The previous version's rubber was better and more comfortable but I suppose this type doesn't unglue and it covers a lot so that's great.
I only use Razer mice now for my wife and I. I have 3 for me alone (Viper, Viper Mini, and this one). Reason is that I won't be using any other non-optical switches mouse as they're not reliable. These do not double click and that's reason enough to stick with these Razer mice. Other Logitech mice and SteelSeries mice, as much as I like them, double click after a while. Logitech mice can double click after a few days while SteelSeries after months or a year. I still really like SteelSeries.
Stick with mice made with optical switches. They're also quieter.
The cable is great also. It's an overall extremely good package.
best feature is the cord - will never know it is there, some weird lightweight thing like a burnt cheeto, no bungee required. The 70 million clicks sounds nice. The 20k sensor is silly fast. The weight of it feels just right.
The software 'synapse' is easy enough to use, though there is no option to change the 'clutch' to a precision toggle.
Speaking of that clutch it needs a paddle at least twice as long. To use it I need to do a palm grip, of course from that grip not much chance of reaching M4. My usual relaxed palm grip can reach M4 just fine, but then M5 is a stretch. The mouse wheel is adjustable, it feels ok, had far worse and some better - I have never been comfortable using the tilt buttons and this mouse is no exception, need a fingertip grip to use this. Forget about ever reprogramming the DPI up/down buttons and then using them in a game, you will need some abstract claw grip to use them. All in all you need 3 grips to use all the buttons so that is not good.
- comfortable for long sessions
- good clicky feel
- nice material texture
- thumb rest is good
- scroll wheel stops feel nice and defined
Cons:
Battery life is definitely not as advertised. I am changing the batteries once every 1.5-2 weeks. I use it for work and gaming so roughly 10-11 hours a day in Hyperspeed Wireless mode. I don't turn off my mouse when the computer is shut down but the mouse has an auto power down due to inactivity feature.
The mouse disconnects randomly during use. This is not from inactivity but happens while I am working or gaming. I would have to turn off and turn back on the mouse to get it to work, which is very annoying.
Razer Support Chat is not very helpful. After spending a long time proving to them that I've done my due diligence and that it's not a user error, they then require it to be escalated to another team for me to go through that process again.
Battery hasn't died yet. I feel no lag, but I play more slow shooters like Siege and use it for video and photo the rest of the time because I'm a firm believer than for multi-media work you should have a gaming mouse because they JUST SEEM to reduce tension on your wrist, etc. I can barely look at workplace and "budget" mice anymore.
Anyway, this review seems biased. The mouse I used before this was a corded Logitec g503, or whatever. 502? Who knows? Maybe the person reading this knows better than I that companies goofy naming conventions. It doesn't really matter, I suppose. This Razer mouse glides for days, dawg.
The buttons work properly (unlike the Logitech G502 this replaced)
Wireless 2.5 GHz or bluetooth connection
Cons:
2.4GHz dongle is incredibly picky about where it is plugged into my computer.
Battery dies or connection is lost in the middle of doing things.
Battery life is dismal.
Battery cover/palm rest has protruding corners at the bottom which makes it feel cheap and uncomfortable.
More details:
I bought this mouse as a replacement for my 1 year old G502. The right mouse button started being intermittent on the G502 but this isn't a review of Logitech's failure in quality control...)
I have had this mouse for a couple months now and it has been a pain to find a usb port to put the dongle in. The 2.4GHz dongle doesn't like being near USB 3.x ports. It doesn't like being in a USB2.x hub. The only place it appears to like to be in in the front USB port of my case. With many motherboards now only having USB3.x ports this is kind of stupid imo. I guess I could buy a bluetooth dongle but I don't need or want bluetooth on my gaming rig.
My next mouse is back to wired... If the G502 had quality buttons I'd have stuck with that. I have contemplated returning this mouse but there is not many real quality options left.
Funny thing is for work I have an old Logitech wireless mouse and it runs on a AA rechargeable battery for over a year before I change it. I use it 5 days a week for 10 hours a day. This one lasts 40 hours max. I just changed the battery again which prompted me to write this review.
Verdict:
Overpriced for the quality you get. If you don't have bluetooth expect issues until you find the magic spot for the 2.4GHz dongle.
-Ergonomie
I waited 3 months to use it and see if I liked it before posting this, so I’ve put it through some paces. The only thing I’d recommend is a mouse case from Razer, I take mine to work with me, so it’s nice to have a case for it when I’m taking it with me. Razer makes really good, quality products.
A+++
The reason why I chose this one over the G502, is all due to the Akaline Battery. Because the G502 Wireless is having a built-in battery and I don't like due to the fact that you always need to charge it (onces per few days), which is not too "wireless". But the AA battery version can last for at least few months before you replacing another battery, it is more like a wireless mouse.
Also for gaming, I would like to have more buttons like the G502, but it just have very basic 5 keys setup, which is just ok, and can do more than that, so 4 STARS instead of five.
GOOD JOB RAZER!
Highly recommend it!
The side buttons are slightly less tactile than I'd like, accidental presses definitely sometimes happen because I'm used to firmer buttons but I think I could get used to it. The scroll wheel is also slightly stiffer than my old mouse but that's also something I'll just adjust to.
All in all very satisfied with this purchase. Would definitely recommend as an entry level gaming mouse and just as a great mouse in general.
Will try to update with battery life information over time if I remember.
I ended up having to remove the dongle and the mouse battery, and putting them back in after 30 secs. Only then it would work.
Razer tech support is so backed up, they didn't respond to my support request for over a week and a half.
After about 2 weeks of using this mouse, I returned it. Razer hadn't responded to my tech support request by then.
Glad it doesn't have any RGB lighting to drain the battery. Combination of wireless 2.4 Ghz and BT connectivity are hugely convenient for switching between my gaming PC and my HTPC or work laptop.
Thumb rest is very comfortable, weight it good. Scroll wheel is very stiff, I don't use it. Your hand resting position will be the base of your forefinger on the mouse, not great palm support as the mouse is mid size, not chunky. This in turn makes it good and light for twitch movements.
Left/right clicks are reliable with good feedback.
The Bad: The mouse buttons however, are rather horrible, mushy clicks on both the left and right mouse buttons, bunch of pre-travel, horizontal play, sometimes it slightly grinds / scrapes against the body, and also has inconsistent resistance in either side.
I already replaced this mouse once, first copy was one manufactured in China and 2nd was one from Thailand. They both had the same issues overall, to varying degrees.
Once again, heavily disappointed in Razer Quality Control, will likely end up returning this mouse as I doubt replacing it again will result in better quality. I had similar issues with the Deathadder V2 and went thru 6 mice all with QC issues. And worst of all, their customer service is absolutely useless. Took a month of emails back and forth for them to offer me a 15% coupon from their site only, which barely covered the $10 shipping cost. So basically they were giving me a $3 incentive to buy another one from their website, instead of amazon.
I ended up RMA'ing the 5th unit for a 6th copy, and what a surprise, still had horrible QC issues.
I will likely not be buying Razer stuff after this, it's overpriced and under-engineered.
