The wrist HR technology isn’t good enough. It just doesn’t work accurately. I gave it a month and the HR monitoring was upto 40 bpm out when compared to a HR10 chest strap, a garmin or surprisingly my wife’s wrist Fitbit. These were all within 4-5% of each other. At one stage when climbing a hill my HR was 40 short of the accurate which was dangerous and fell to 35-40 when it was in fact 85-90. As watch for everyday use I should not have to be thinking about its position on my wrist continually. Disappointed as I say. Love the app, love the gym hardware compatibility. Don’t live the fact I started to worry about my low heart rate and when in the higher zones I was actually pushing way to hard (unsafely) due to inaccurate readings. Sorry Polar, this isn’t ready yet.
Sleep tracking is brillant. Heart rate monitoring is same accuracy as heart rate monitor!!
Many functions yet to try!
Battery life isn't too good either. I don't want yet another device which has to be charged every night.
I have returned the watch and have gone back to my old A300.
Sometimes the old ways of doing things remain the best. Sometimes "progress" is delusory.
I am still waiting for a refund from Amazon.
I didn't like the inaccurate wrist heart rate monitor and the outdated sleeping monitoring algorithm. I also don't like the low battery life span (2-3 days when working at full capacity [continuous heart rate monitoring]) nor the clumsy GPS system,
The only reason I am keeping it is because I already have the H10 chest strap heart rate monitor and used to Polar software on my mobile; I don't have time to change the whole system.
I wouldn't recommend it to anyone with this price. I had the A300 polar watch and other than the GPS tracking system, which could also be a bit arsy sometimes, I don't find much difference.
Polar really impresses with excellent wrist based heart accuracy and the ability to link external heart rate sensors.
I've paired with polar OH1 and H7, and the watch does everything I need to with the minimal fuss.
Great all rounder for beginner through to more advanced exercise tracking.
I was able to compare to an ECG machine and it was spot on the whole time.
Also bought the chest strap.
GPS is also really accurate.
It's comfy to wear.
Battery life only 3 days but I can put up with that.
Heart rate tracking was a bit erratic, but not terribly. I could live with that. But here's the major bug - the distance and ave page tracking is a mess. At not one point on the first test run did I know actually what pace I was doing... 5min/mile? Nope. 10min/mile? Nope. It flickered between these two for 16 miles.
So two days later I tried again, only this time it tracked me as around 8.35min/mile for the whole run... I even stopped and stood for 30 secs, still 8.35. I sped up to somewhere I know is 6min/mile, still 8.35.
There's the makings of a good watch here, the Polar App is great and allows you to fully customise what data you'd like to see on the watch etc... but if that data is flawed, then there's no point.
Back to my old watch then which is basic, but works.
