I already bought the Plantronics DSP-400 and some other model before this one.Now, I use DSP-500 at work, and the foldable DSP-400 at home or on the go.I always had problems with this type of headphones because I never found any comfortable headphones in the past. After 1 or 2 hours, my head would hurt because of the pressure that some headsets make.I think that the Plantronics DSP-500 are extremely comfortable and the sound quality and the microphone are very good.I use them with MacOSX and I own both the DSP-500 and DSP-400 for about 2 years.

This headset works extremely well. I'm not using it as a game headset but as a communications headset. The only issue I have is I wish the mic would come down closer to the mouth; it would help reduce the background noise it can pick up.

I sit about 4 or 5 feet from a window air conditioner and it takes a really good microphone to filter out that background noise. I originally purchased Icemat Siberia Headset (Black) but the microphone didn't work well for speech recognition. The microphone on this headset works extremely well. Also, the headset is very comfortable to wear for long periods of time. I am very pleased with Dragon NaturallySpeaking version 9 and this headset. I'm using it right now to write this review, or should I say "talk" this review.The Icemat USB headset really slowed my computer down while gaming. I am very happy to report that this headset does not or if it does it's not enough to be noticeable.Okay now for a couple of very minor complaints. Firstly, the headset didn't come with any software, I had to download the software from their website. Which is okay I guess, but as much money as these cost the software should be included. Lastly, the headset is very light weight. That's one reason why you can wear them so long. But they seem a little flimsy. All in all, this is the nicest headset I've ever used.

I spend a lot of time during business hours on Skype and this is an extremely comfortable headset. The sound quality is excellent and it even helps screen out some room noise (though it is not a noise cancelling type of headset. Folks on the other end of the line tell me that the voice quality is also very good.Minor nit, i wish the color coding on the plugs was a little brighter and higher contrast but that's pretty picky to be honest.

I don't know how to tell you all, because it very good sound and fantastic voice.I paid for 10 buck( inclued ship cost), than I recived 3 pices of item, that's mean 3 buck each. Why don't you chose it ?

The sound is great, however they are very uncomfortable if you wear glasses, problems with noise cancellation working with Skype & Audio Hijack Pro in OS X. I have to edit out noise on my end in post production to use for podcasting. It is NOT plug and play with windows 2000, and the drivers are very difficult to find online (still waiting to hear back from Plantronic's help center.) For around 50 bucks you do get great sound quality, but the software shortcomings, discomfort, and difficulty to install are concerns.

I purchased this headset to use with Skype, and I am very happy with it. The sound is great, the mic works really well, and, compared to most headsets, I find it to be mostly very comfortable to wear. The only slight discomfort comes after using it for more than four hours, when the ear piece becomes very warm, but I think that's an issue with most headsets.

I've used this product for about a year as a Skype headset. Both the microphone and earphone exhibit very good sound quality with clear audio and comfortable volume levels.I recommend purchasing the Plantronics PC Headset Speaker Switch to go with this headset. It makes switching between the headset and your regular speakers very convenient, and it saves wear and tear on the small connectors.

When this baby arrived, I was unsure of it's quality. Much lihghter than the DSP500, and a little smaller. But once I plugged it in, all worries vanished.This unit has better everything:Audio outputsound qualityfreq response ( very important to me as I am very Hard of hearing)Wearable all day with no neck pressure.I would recommend this to everyone!!Wife loves it for VOIP overseas. She can spend hours on the line now without aches.Buy it! period.

I am using the 550DSP headset daily. I used the microphone for speech recognition and for Skype calls. It's great! I watch DVDs with the headphones and I am very satisfied. They are comfortable, durable, and the sound quality is excellent.

I have two of those sets, one for home and one for work. I have been using them for over a year and have nothing but the best to say about them: perfect sound quality, quality design that stands up beautifully to daily use, long, soft cord, very comfortable to wear and excellent value (each of those sets was purchased for under $50). Very highly recommended!!

I use this headset for gaming, and it's great. The sound quality is excellent -- once I began using it, I heard sound effects in-game that I'd never heard before. Additionally, the surround-sound had me looking over my shoulder and even taking the headset off occasionally to see where that strange sound was coming from.The headset is comfortable to wear for extended periods. Not great, but good. After wearing it for 3+ hours, I feel the need to give my ears a break. This is probably not a bad thing, but don't expect to wear this all day without some discomfort.The microphone works well in the few applications in which I've used it. It works very well in Teamspeak, less so in Half-Life 2 and Battlefield 2. However, I believe the reduced sound quality has more to do with the implementation of VoIP in those games than it does with the mic itself, as I have had similar results with other headsets. Voice in HL2 is barely useable; in BF2 it's better, but it's alway necessary to boost the mic to the maximum to get a middling volume level.The only quibble I have with this headset is occasional difficulties with certain applications. The built-in DSP acts as its own sound card, which can make device selection a bit confusing. For instance, in order to use this headset with Teamspeak, you must first have it connected, then select it from a menu (de-selecting your PC's installed sound card). Once that's done, it doesn't need to be done again, but Teamspeak will complain if you then try to launch without the headset connected. I've also had other apps revert back to the installed sound card instead of the headset/DSP. This only requires a quick menu change, and is almost certainly the fault of the application (not the headset), but it can be confusing and frustrating.Overall, I am very happy with this product. I would recommend it highly to online gamers, and I believe it would work well for music and video on the PC. If you're just going to be talking over Skype, this might be overkill, but if sound quality is important, this headset is a good investment.

This headset is somewhat uncomfortable, you can't adjust it very much, the earpieces don't swivel enough. There's an odd plastic piece at the top that holds the two headphone speakers apart, which I think was added for comfort, but actually just makes it harder to adjust.The sound quality is okay, but not what I would expect out of a $120 headset (at Fry's, but then I found it for $60 on NewEgg, which is more reasonable for the quality).It also craps out on me occassionally. When I opened the package, the insert said I might have to "restart the application" whenever the headsets stop working. You don't need to install the application, which you download online only, if you're using a Mac. The Plantronics website said, Macs will work without installing anything. The second time I tried plugging my headset into my Powerbook, it worked, but when I opened GarageBand, it quit working, and I had to unplug and replug it in again to get it to work.This would have been fine if this was all. However, every time I plug it in, I have to go to System Preferences and select the headset for my audio and/or mic input. It doesn't do it automatically. :-(

This is a great product. Amazing quality and very comfortable for my head (which is of the smaller size). My only complaint is that the volume remote attached to the cord does not effect the Mac version of Skype. This is Skype's fault, as they dont have independent audio controls for the program.Other than that, this is a great headset and I'd highly recommend it to anyone looking for a Skype/gaming headset.

Today no matter what you do with your PC, audio quality is becoming very important to user. Most of applications today pay significant attention to audio to guide, prompt and entertain user.. Most of us who love finer sound quality when listing to music or movies keep on buying better and better headsets thru out our life, but no matter how much latest headset costs it usually has two major problems. It is never comfortable on ear and head for wearing it for hours, and it can not deliver better sound then source which supplies it.If you use such expensive analog headset on your PC for experiencing sound of games, movies and music, you are out of luck since it can't deliver sound better then one supplied by sound card or sound chip inside your PC. Sound card and sound chip inside PC may suffer from low cost, low quality and also from magnetic interference, and heat inside PC. To solve this riddle, Plantronics, a light weight headset maker since 1962 has introduced DSP series of headset. DSP stands for "Digital Signal Processing". Unlike analog headsets, this DSP headsets don't use and don't need sound card or chip inside your PC. Even if your PC has sound card, it won't be used. Headset has 3 meter long cord which also houses small box with sound chip, equivalent of sound card inside PC but away from all heat, dust and magnetic distortions inside PC. Sound exists in analog form only where it absolutely has to be between the user and the headset module; from there it travels digitally to and from PC.Though DSP-500 is marketed by Plantronics for gaming, it is recommended for anyone watching movies on PC or listening to music on PC or using PC to make phone calls over internet. Thanks to its ultra-sensitive microphone and noise canceling technology these headsets are ideal for speech recognition software. IBM Via Voice Pro USB 10 ships with DSP-300 headset from Plantronics. If you are mobile professional carrying laptop, use DSP-400 which is smaller and foldable. Unlike regular analog headsets, Plantronics headsets don't make you feel its weight even after hours of using it thanks to its very high quality design. All digitally enhanced USB headsets from Plantronics have same digital technology which recreates maximum clarity and have noise canceling microphone. In past this author had used DSP-300 which was much lighter and smaller compared to DSP-500. Even though size of headset differs, when you wear it, both are equally comfortable and light on ear and head thanks to very light weight materials used. Unlike DSP-300 and DSP-400, DSP-500 uses 40mm speakers with 20Hz-20KHz frequency response. It took a long time to find anything like this. I wanted a stereo headset with mic, with just the in-ear buds rather than the over-head or behind-head deals. These work great, and the sound is fine. Unfortunately now I hear the flaws in some of my vinyl recordings and will have to redo them! They fit right into my ears and stay very well. Comfortable for several hours at a time, although if your ears are small these might be a bit big. They seem to be about the same size as Apple iPod earphones.

This headset is SO UNCOMFORTABLE that I can't wear them for more than 5 minutes. Come on, who makes square ear pads?? Plus, the inside of each ear pad has solid, hard plastic that presses against your ears. Sure, the microphone works great but the only thing you'll be able to record are the sounds of your screams from the shear discomfort of wearing these.Avoid at all costs!

I purchased this headset in September of 2005 due to the excellent ratings (except for the one guy, who I believe just had a faulty headset).I used this headset every day for 16+ hours. Continuously. It was used for gaming, Skype, music. The microphone quality was astounding. If I call from Skype, people say it sounds like you're talking on the phone. People don't hear a lot of background static noise. If there is a lot of white noise in the background, it is almost always cancelled out.As for hearing on my end, the quality is great. It is clear and crisp, as if they were with me.The comfort is always really nice. Having the headset on for so many hours every day could be quite painful if you don't have the right one. This one, however, fits snugly but not too tight (although I did let a friend borrow it and she complained that it presses against her very large earrings and is uncomfortable). If for some reason it gets a bit too tight when its tilted or something on my head, a quick movement will take care of it. The band on the top of the headset makes it so it doesnt pull your hair or anything when you move it around.My only complaints are:- the cover to the microphone fell off after about 3 months of use. I am not sure if it was just not glued on properly or what. It didn't affect sound quality, but it looked better aesthetically.- after 10 months of use, my headset has developed a loose wire in the microphone. I can hear people on the other end, but it sometimes fades out on my end. Therefore I am going to order another one of these headsets to fix the issue.

The DSP-500 is a great gaming headset. I have owned probably 10 pairs of these over the past 5 years and use them just about every day for online gaming. I have a pair set up also for both my sons who each game as well.Very simple to use...just plug them into the USB port of your computer. Done. The in-line volume and mute buttons come in very handy as well for making adjustments on the fly. The cord is VERY long and makes it great for moving around your computer while keeping the headset on......I listen to satellite radio online while working in my office and these give me the freedom to move around my office space. The boom mic can be moved up or down as needed.The ear pieces may be a bit large for some but personally I like having a complete cover over my ear area. This blocks out surrounding noise and gives me the full digital sound experience the headset can offer.I highly recommend these. I have 3 sets in use right now between myself and my kids, all using them for online gaming. I even keep one extra set in storage for when needed (my kids can get a bit rough with them!!). They are a very durable headset but over constant use, day in and day out, you must expect some wear. For the price/quality ratio you can't find a better headset in my opinion.

I've been using this headset for about 4 months now, and am very pleased with it except the part where my I start getting headache after about 2 hours of gaming, which is not a completely bad thing, just forces me to take a small break and let my eyes rest for a little.Also this headset, when plugged in, blocks all other audio devices. In order to put the sound to my speakers I have to unplug the headset and change prefs to use my mobo surround sound. I'm pretty positive that this happens because the headset is using a USB interface, and there is some kind of conflict between the audio drivers... hopefully plantronics will release a patch for it ... sometime ... hopefully...Software is pretty worthless, but have to have it in order to have good quality sound.Headset is also a bit pricy, but justifies the sound quality!

Very comfortable to wear for the long hours that I spend gaming. Only drawback is that you can't plug in the headset while you are in the midst of playing most games. Sound quality is good. Volume and mute controls are excellent as well.

I originally had gotten a headset that goes around the ears. It was fairly comfortable for awhile, but would eventually make my ears hurt. I've been using this headset for about three weeks now and love it. The sound is good, and I can wear it for several hours without any discomfort at all. I've ended up buying two more headsets for my daughter and my sister to use, and both of them really like it also. I highly recommend this to anyone doing computer gaming!

This is now my preferred Skype headset. I was previously using a wireless Linksys CIT300 phone which worked well but did not offer the same sound quality. It's hard to compete with a corded solution that covers both ears. This is an over the ear cushion model but it kind of sits on the ears rather than over them. I have other headsets that are more comfortable because they fully enclose the ears.

I absolutely loved my DSP-100 for the several years I used it. When it finally succumbed to the rigors of daily use, I went in search of another headset to replace it. Being an online gamer who frequently communicates with other players over voice chat networks, I needed a headset that offered excellent sound quality and comfort, both features I found in my DSP-100. I had become accustomed to playing the game's sound through my external speakers and routing the voice chat through the headset (keeping the games ambient sounds ambient while keeping the voices clear, close, and unmolested by the game's sounds), so a USB headset was a must.I tried other headsets by different manufacturers, but none of them offered the clarity and comfort I found in my old Plantronics headset, and while the USB offerings from Plantronics (DSP-400 and DSP-500) were more pricey than I wanted to pay (and I actually didn't want a stereo headset), to get the quality I wanted, the two offerings from Plantronics came under consideration. After some deliberation, I decided on the DSP-500.After a month of nightly use, this headset has proven to be an excellent purchase. The quality is excellent, the headset comfortable (despite its size), and the construction feels sturdy and solid with thick pieces that fit together cleanly and thick wires that don't feel like they'll break (a complaint I've had with cheaper headphones and headsets). This headset may be a bit pricey, but the old addage 'you get what you pay for' holds true. Although I have decent PC speakers and headphones for listening to music and watching movies, the sound quality of this headset stands up to both of them.
