If I could rate this phone -1, I would. The battery life of this phone is horrible. When I was using it, I had to recharge it every 10 hours or it would die out on me. I did not keep it on the base because I thought it would be fine without having to recharge everyday - WRONG! Do not buy this phone.

The phone is an excellent value for the cost. I believe previous complaints about short life span are attributable to the NiCad battery. If one continually hangs up phone immediately on base unit, the battery "memory" will get very, very short.

I have this phone at home. I've had it for 2 1/2 years and it's worked great. Then, it started dying. I'd speak on it for about 10 minutes, it would start beeping, and then the reception would cut out/die. I replaced the battery, but it still happened.
I am so sick of spending good money on top-name electronics and then having them die in 2 years or less. I do not go for cheap, so this is especially distressing.
I am not happy with this revelation, but reading all other cordless phone reviews, this one unfortunately got the best one (which is not saying much). I guess I'll have to buy it again, since I need a cordless phone and this gets the best reviews (again, the "best" is not really best, but best out there from what is available).
Very maddening indeed.

i too have had battery problems with this phone. but my major complaint is the handset's inability to work properly when other appliances in the home might be on, such as the microwave or clothes dryer - it cuts out like a cell phone might when far away from a tower. love the talking caller ID, though (don't have to put my glasses on to read the display), and the speakerphone and answering machine still work, so i'm using the unit as a desk phone for now.

This phone is great. I like most things about it. Especially the head set. I have trouble with my arm holding any phone to me ear for too long, and the head set relieves that pain. My only problems would be volume control. I have excellent hearing, but the head set volume doesn't seem to go very high for those people how tend not to talk directly into the mouth piece of thier phone. Think the hand set could stand to be just a little bit smaller too. Other than that, it works well for me.

I was thoroughly disappointed with Panasonic for the first time.I have purchased many products from them and have NEVER had a problem; so when I saw this phone I was happy. It looks great, has many features that one would love but, DITTO, the phone is awful. I have purchased 2 batteries and they still don't work, so I think it is the phone!!When I called, they told me to make sure the charging poles were clean (without dust or anything). Ha ha, forget it. I am looking for a phone now and am totally ignoring Panasonic.

This was a cheap Panasonic phone that I picked up!! When they say you get what you paid for, it is true!!! The battery doesn't hold a charge!! Missing a lot of functions!! No light to blink when you have voice mail messages, no key pad on base, need to edit local incoming caller id to remove area code, etc. Low price = Cheap!!

This phone didn't last long at all - like everyone said - poor battery life is my guess. I've had a VTech for much longer and it is still working. I would not buy again!!

This phone is decent for awhile, but then slides into a downhill spiral.The battery life is pretty bad. I found that I could only talk for about an hour (or leave the phone off the cradle for a few hours) without the battery giving out.Awhile after I bought this phone, it started getting random static on the line. At first, I could switch channels and solve the problem, but then it became so bad that conversations were almost pointless. What's worse. I wasn't a hundred feet away from the base unit. I'd be sitting less then 3 feet from it!All in all, this product makes me wary of Panasonic phones. Clearly poorly designed and not well built.

I rerate this down to 2 stars and suggest buyers look at other models.Panasonic says the phone's is capable of providing 5 hours of continuous talk time or 5 days on standby per charge. This is not true. My phone is only 4 months old and the batteries now operate at half their advertized life. That's after only about two or three dozen full charge / discharge cycles. Now there's no more than about 2 hours of continuous talk time per charge. This cordless is for light duty use only.However the phone is very easy to use. The 40 number caller ID feature makes callbacks, editing and storing to its 10 station memory easy. The caller's ID appears after the first full ring in the 3 line backlit LCD.This phone has good audio quality for a cordless, an easy user interface and good transmission range (at least twice that of my antique AT&T cordless). One neat feature I didn't expect was a plug for a headset, which I am using with an earpiece meant for a Nokia cellphone for handsfree use. Another thoughtful feature is the removable belt clip.Aside from the weak batteries, another (minor) annoyance with the phone is with the half-second delay after pickup for an incoming call before you can actually speak. Otherwise the design and manufacture are typically Panasonic; solid and stylish. Sony makes great phones too but it seems Panasonic's products are generally built a little tougher even if they are not quite as slick.

The battery life is unacceptable. When this phone was new, the battery lasted for about three hours of talk time at the most. It's 9 months later, and now the battery lasts for about 1/2 hour. For years, Panasonic has been a reputable company with good products. But not this time. I plan on buying the Panasonic PP501 replacement battery that was mentioned in an earlier review. But if that doesn't improve my satisfaction with this product, I will be putting it right where it belongs - in the trash.

I got this phone two months ago after having another Panasonic phone, that I loved, for 7 years with no problems. But the battery does not work right! I get cut off in the middle of conversations all the time! And that's after having the phone hung up all night. I don't even get 30 minutes of talk time before the battery decides to cut out on me. I am throwing this phone in the trash. I'm very disappointed. I know it's a cheap phone so you can't expect much, but I have had cheaper corded phones that have lasted for years! Don't buy it!

My unit (3DAXA044546, made in Malaysia) did stop working (and only was blinking) after its guarantee had expired. Reason: A very minor change of charge that doesn't even stopped the Computer at its side to work! (I had it all the time on the wall, not on the surge protector). I threw it to the trashcan today!

Phone works better than any cordless we have had, battery is now nearly completely dead after only 6 months of use. Trying to decide whether to spend $12 for a new battery or $20 for a new phone.

I am a long-time fan of Panasonic products and when (here it comes) Consumer Reports recommended it, I bought it as a gift for a friend. The friend and I don't speak as much as we did before I got the phone for her, because the thing doesn't stay charged. Shame on you, Panasonic.

I agree with all the reviewers here. Battery life is POOREST. Is anyone even doing testing of these products at Panasonic?1) I think Panasonic should recall this unit TG2257 and not only replace the phones but REFUND our money because this to me is cheating. Nowhere in the product description it mentioned that the battery life is worst, a fully charged handset gets discharged overnight even without using the phone. Yes, there are features on the phone that I really liked but what good are they if the handset dies in the middle of your conversation. I thought it must be my piece that is off but after reading reviews here it is confirmed that it is one of the poor quality of Panasonics' products. 2) The battery NiCd P-P511 seems like "WEAK" 3.6V 850mAh (not good at all for a handset), the physical size seems like putting 3 AA batteries together (unfortunately can't use those). If the problem with this phone is just battery (which I think it is) then they should come up with more powerful NiMH batteries and send it to all the customers who owns this piece (at no additional cost to customers). I think this might solve the problem.PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THIS PRODUCT

I originally initiated a search online looking for a battery because my phone loses the charge after only about 30 minutes and takes at least a day and a half to recharge. I thought that it was just time to replace the battery until I read the other reviews and realized that others were having the same problem that I am having. When I actually stop and think about it, I have been experiencing problems with this phone since I purchased it. When I first purchased the phone, I had a 30 minute conversation and then had to place the phone back on the cradle to recharge and it took about a day and a half! I thought it was because I didn't let it charge completely initially, so I left it on the charger for 3 days without using it and then when I did use it I had the same problem. I think that Panasonic owes everyone who bought this "phone" a refund.

I concur with all comments concerning the battery. What a piece of [...]! Although I don't have this Panasonic model (I have a Panasonic KX TG2215 - unfortunately, a much more expensive model), the battery is equally worthless. I'm on my second (and LAST) battery within a year. I'm giving the phone to my girl friend's elderly mother who doesn't usually spend more than 15 minutes on the phone at a time, which is the absolute outer limits of the in-use-battery charge. I seriously doubt I will ever buy a Panasonic phone again.

I have had this all digital phone for about 6 months. Very happy with it's performance. Voice enhancer feature produces crisp and clear reception. Built in answering system is above average. Battery has held up well... no problems

I had to make a switch from my beloved (and old) 900Mhz Uniden EXAI7980 (read my review) after it "expired" on me. Being used to a particular phone for years, I decided to purchase a system with similar features in the 2.4Ghz range. I found that this model from Panasonic has got the most complete set of options for basic cordless answering systems. By the way, Amazon's description of this system may be misleading; it is actually a cordless "answering system" and not simply a cordless "telephone".I'm a practical user, I really don't have the need for setting caller IQ or maybe even enter or donwload 40 or 50 phone numbers into the system. What I really wanted was ease of use, a quick setup, reliability and a good manual in case I get stuck.A quick-installation manual was included, no need to open the big, detailed instruction booklet to simply hook up and get the phone to work, that's one big plus. With this quick 6-page guide I was able to set up and understand the most basic features most people will ever require: Recording the greeting message (I love that part!), setting up the day and time, listening to messages locally and remotely, using the handset, where the buttons are and what they do.The detailed instruction manual explains every feature in detail. You'll see a diagram of every button on your phone and what page in the manual explains their use.I have no problems with battery life, either I am a lucky person or I simply followed the instructions to charge the handset for at least 15 hours before even lifting it up. No problems with reception either, I followed the clear instructions on the guide to locate the phone away from electronic equipments such as TVs, PCs and microwaves and to place the phone base as high as possible in a central location.One additional plus about this phone is the presence of dial buttons on the base unit. Sometimes this important feature is overlooked. In case the handset's batteries run out, you can still dial numbers using the base and talk using the speaker phone.Overall, this is a good product.

I too am a victim of consumer reports. The battery life after 7 months is about 20 minutes of talk time and 3 hours off the charger. I even made sure to let it fully charge and die the first 3 or 4 times when I bought it. And what kills me is the batteries cost just about as much as the phone itself. Otherwise the phone works, stupid phone. But now I have to get another new phone to replace this one which replaced another GE piece of crap. Technology!! They put they can put a TV in a Refrigorator but they can't make a battery.

What's the use of all those nice features if the batterycan't last long enough. It's really very frustrating. Ihave changed the batteries three times in less than a year.They don't come cheap. I should have put all the money forthe batteries on a new phone. Well, that's what I am gonnado now. Better late than never.

The battery doesn't last for more than 30 minutes. It discharges on its own if it is out of its base unit. I initially thought, it could be some loose contact and thus kept the phone rather than returning it. But, I was fooled. I am rather stupid to keep buying panasonic products even after seeing a similar problem with one of my Panasonic DVD players. The DVD player died exactly after one year. It seems, the model had this problem! Wow! Panasonic is able to manufacture their products such that they only last their warranty period! amazing way to loose customers.Atleast, I would expect Panasonic to replace/refurbish such models having such inherent problems! but they don't seem to do it! Shouldn't this fall into some kind of recall?So, the question is, should we continue to buy Panasonic products? and waste our money in this way? How can you believe them even if they are not willing to refurbish such defetive models unconditionally (i.e., without asking for receipts, etc.,).----Mohan

This phone has sucky performance and the battery life went away fast. Now it hardly keeps a charge. The caller ID takes too long to come up and if I am in my backyard the phone starts ringing way too late. I have people tell me it rang three or four times before I pickup, except that I pick up during the first ring. I am throwing this away.

I usually have good luck using Consumer Reports ratings but this time was a bust. This phone has consistently underperformed in battery life and clarity. It has this annoying habit of not picking up a call until the second or third ring. I have missed quite a few calls as a result. After only 6 months, it is time for a new battery. Instead, I will be getting a new phone.

I always search the consumer websites and read reviews before I purchase most items. This phone was highly rated and ended up being my choice. Shortly after using the phone, it started "acting up." I would answer the phone when it rang and found nobody on the other end of the line. I would say, "Hello, Hello?" My callers would subsequently get through to me and say that they could hear me, even though I couldn't hear them. Panasonic has always been a preferred brand in my mind; however, this product misses the mark.

This phone is horrible. I also bought it based upon the great review in Consumer Reports, but I frequently get static when talking. The caller ID takes too long to come on, and sometimes just doesn't come on at all. The battery life is horrible, much worse than the cheaper phone I used to have. DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE!!!

It seems that everyone agrees that the battery on this phone dies after a 30 minute conversation. This happened to me even when the phone was new, and charged for two days!!!!! I kept thinking it would get better, but it never did. I feel that all of us who bought this phone was SCAMMED by Panasonic!!!There should be a recall!

After having great experiences with Panasonic phones, I asked for this specific model for my birthday. Upon making the first calls, I was immediately disappointed. One out of two people asked if I was using a cordless phone; not a good sign. As far as battery life, I agree with the other reviewers that the battery life was poor. I could live with that until one morning while trying to make a call with the handset fully charged, the phone just completely died. I emailed Panasonic who told me that I should send the handset in along with the receipt and they would either fix it or replace it with a "reconditioned model." As if...who has a reciept for a gift from six months ago? The same thing happened to my sister with the same phone. Like many of the other reviewers, it turned out to be the battery. It completely died within 6 months. Please take my experience as a warning. Do not buy this phone.

I agree with all the comments at this site. I was actually visiting this site looking for a battery for my phone, and saw all these reviews. I purchased this phone about a year ago, and now, I have to make sure that the cordless is on the charger all the time. Even that's not sufficient if my call lasts more than 30 minutes. And as another reviewer said, it would even discharge by morning if I forget to place it on the charger the night before...I am gonna give it one more try with some other company's battery compatible with this phone. Hopefully it will work if the problem is with the battery and not with the phone.

While using this phone it will cut out for about 5 seconds while it switches to another security code. During this time you cannot hear the other person on the line and they have to repeat what they said. This happens every time I use the phone. I called Panasonic and they said to send it in (I pay the shipping cost) and they will replace it with a "reconditioned" phone. The phone is about a month old.

Though I think the phone looks and sounds great, and I am pleased with the range, the battery truly dies within a year. It will happen all at once, too, with the first 6 months being great, and slight issues with long calls in the next 3 months, and finally total collapse at the one year mark.Now I am down to charging it all the time, and I only get a 30 minute conversation in (once per day) before the phone dies. This is not a fluke, unfortunately, as I also bought the same Panasonic Phone for my brother, and his died before the one year mark, too. Really a pain, as I've had other cordless phones for years without problems. Do I really have to purchase a $40 battery every YEAR? The answer, of course, is NO. I just need to buy a new phone with a better battery!

When I first purchased the phone, the battery wouldn't charge. I figured I was just unlucky and got a lemon. I quickly exchanged it for another one which did charge up. However, now after having it for less than a year, the battery dies after only about an hour of talk time, or if I leave it out of the charger overnight.So was I just unlucky enough to get two lemons in a row? Well that question was answered by a friend of mine with the same model phone who says that she has the same problem with her phone. Luckily, I got the extended warranty, so maybe I'll see if I can just get the battery replaced every few months. Needless to say, this is very disappointing, especially after all the great things I've heard about Panasonic phones.

This phone does not work even in my small two bedroom aparment. I never had any problems with my old panasonic cordless phone. If I move from one room to other room while talking, it will start giving static noises(even if i am not far more than 20 feet). I also moved the base unit from my living room to one of the bed rooms, still same problem. I am returing this product back to Amazon.

My experience with this phone is so different from the reviewer who gave it five stars that I wonder if we even have the same model. Or perhaps mine is defective. Whatever the case, it's going back less than one day after it arrived. The sound quality is mediocre with or without the "voice enhancer technology" turned on. (With it turned on, it sounds a bit like a soundtrack for a bad dream or unfortunate drug experience.) This phone was a big disappointment and a waste of time having to box it up and send it back.

Prior experience with the Panasonic KX-TG2247S was an extreme disappointment - however this Model is lighter, smaller, and definetly performs much better then the older one, which I returned twice. Battery life is very close to that stated of 11 day stand-by / or 5 hours talk-time. VE (Voice Enhancer) technology is an added bonus (though as the manual already states: at times it will increase the line noise too). The menu has been improved by making it more intuitive and bringing it in line with that of a Mobile Phone. Being Water resistant is a big plus since my wife is always using it in the kitchen while cooking :-) Overall I am giving KX-TG2226SV 5 stars as its restored my confidence in Panasonic's ability to make world class cordless phones.
