I bought this around 9 months ago so I feel I can give it a fair review as it is used on a daily basis.
I mainly use this product for gaming (PS4) and I must say moving from 40 inch HDTV to a 120 inch HD projector is an amazing leap!
I have my projector permanently mounted on the ceiling around 4.5 meters from my screen and I can get 120 inches of viewing, with ease!
This product is well made although now discontinued by the manufacturer and when you attempt to set one up, its apparent why.
As mentioned in previous reviews, the corners of the image are very hard to get sharp at the same time and this seems to be a common fault for most, if not all models.
I have the above problem but because I was blown away by the image size and quality, I overlooked this small issue.
After around 7 months of using this projector, I was mid-way through a game and the product made a buzzing sound and shut off, displaying a lamp fail. After getting in touch with the manufacturer, I returned it within my guarantee and they fixed the problem, cleaned it up and sent it back to me. (how nice!) So be aware of these common faults and flaws when purchasing this item.
The picture quality is great (ignoring the focusing issue), it has nice deep colours and plenty of settings to tinker with to get your optimum personal preferences right.
The sound quality, for a projector is great too, featuring a 10W speaker, which is fantastic if you don't have any other outputs but if your'e looking for a real cinema feel - Invest in something with more power!
All in all though, not bad for the price and this model is a 3D projection model, (which I can't comment on as I've not used this feature).
I would recommend this product to anybody wanting a home cinema experience - relatively well priced and for the 6000 hour lamp life (eco mode), you can't go wrong!

This is a superb projector for the money. It gives a very detailed image with excellent colour accuracy. It is bright enough for daytime viewing (as long as the sun is not shining directly onto the screen), but really comes into its own in a darkened room when fed a Blu-ray DVD or HD TV signal. I use mine with a 100" 16:9 remote controlled screen and 5.1 surround sound system and am never left feeling that I am not getting as good a movie experience as at the local cinema. I'm not a huge fan of 3D in general, but have tried that feature on this projector with a few 3D Blu-ray discs and it works perfectly. The fan is very quiet, barely noticeable in fact. PC FPS games are a blast on the 100" screen, sent through a HDMI cable from the PC via the amp and controlled via a wireless keyboard and mouse. The only potential drawback of this projector is that the zoom range is very small, thus depending on your living room dimensions, you may be restricted in the size of image you can display. It's always a good idea to use an online throw-distance calculator first before purchasing any projector.

So the actual bulb is great. But the reason for 3 stars is because I had to remove the bulb from the housing it came in and put it in the original that came with my projector. Trying to deal with the company was very difficult and so much so that I would not buy from them because of that alone. If you plug it in and do not get a picture or one that is very dim, change the bulb into your existing housing (not hard) but be sure NOT to touch the bulb as the oil on your fingers can ruin it. Then it is nice and bright!

This is a replacement for the type B controller, not the type A, as I found out the hard way.
If in doubt, check which yours is in the Optoma manual (it can be found online), as this will not work if you are using a type A remote.

Just replaced my OEM bulb with this one. The picture so far is super clear, bright, and sharp! Took the risk buying a cheaper bulb and so far it has been worth it! The only little detail is the screws to keep the bulb secure are a little smaller. Took the old ones out and replaced them, problem solved. If it lasts is the only question I have so I will be updating in a couple months. But right now I have to give it 5 stars, simply because of the price vs quality

I just received the projector yesterday and it blew me away. Delivery could have been quicker but after emailing the seller they had it on my doorstep in a few days.
This is my first projector so the review will not be in any way technical. Here goes......
The projector itself was slightly larger than I anticipated and seems off kilter - this can be corrected using the legs underneath. The fan is not very loud but the unit does tend to get quite hot. The picture is amazing and I am sure will get even better once I fiddle with the settings a bit more. The projector speakers are adequate but I would advise investing in a decent set of speakers to truly enjoy the experience. I have only used the projector in tandem with my hard drive but I will let you know further down the line how it handles gaming. The remote is easy to use and lights up so it can be used in the dark. I have not had the chance to try the 3D yet but again I will let you know.
The one gripe I have with this is the lack of lens cap. I know it is only a small matter but for the money I would expect a small plastic disc to be included. Not a big ask Optoma! Also the power cable is quite short so make sure you are using it close to a socket or have an extension lead. Finally, the disc containing the instruction manual did not work but I was able to get it online, so no big deal (the instructions are not that helpful in any case).
Overall, a great projector (though I am new to it and have nothing to compare it to). A little large and it does get quite hot but the picture and the lack of fan noise really trump these two defects. I would advise getting speakers, an extension lead and a cable management system of some sort because the cables are messy to deal with.

Really awesome picture. Very bright and without noticeable rainbow effect.
1080p picture is just stunning an I am still projecting on a white wall - with no screen yet.
Slightly annoying is that if you have to install it under the ceiling, you really need to hang it. We placed ours n top of a shelf, upside down. You can disable the buttons in the menu (cool!) except for the power button. So when I lift the projector, to adjust focus and zoom, I have to lower it down very, very, very carefully, not to switch it off.
Noise level is very low - so low we don't notice it in any negative way and the projector sits just 1.5m above our heads.
3D picture is great and with a pair of cheap 3D glasses from China it works like a charm (just set the right 3D sync mode in the menu).
What I found not to work at all is the "3D Auto" setting - I hoped it would detect 3D SBS content and switch to 3D mode, but it doesn't. Possibly this works with 3D BR discs, but I don't own a BR player, so can't comment.
My wife loves the picture too. We had a 10y old SONY Cineza 720p before and the Optoma is soooo much better. I don't miss the electronic focus and zoom, since that's something you adjust only once anyway.
I deal with a lot of projectors at work. Often expensive "commercial" grades. They all look pretty pale (literally)compared with this little fella.
Update (10. July 2015):
I managed to enable "security" (idiot me), while fiddling around with the projector off its usual mounting place. As a result I could not see the entire screen and undo my action. Anyway, I ended up contacting Optoma support. They got back to me within 4 working hours and not only via email but also contacted me via phone. They were able to help me resolving this (user) error. Kudos to the Optoma support team.

needs a big room to get a big picture and the menus are slow (i think they are on most projectors) but the image quality is flawless - full HD/3D at any size. the built in speaker has its flaws but i think thats a back up really - i doubt they are intended for use without a third party sound system, saying that im still managing with the inbuilt speaker 10 months on so it cant be that bad, just hard to adjust late at night between too quiet and too lound (a bit like a phone volume the increments seem uneven)

I took some time looking at reviews and seeing what was about, this model kept popping up so I took the plunge. Before mounting it on the ceiling I ran it from a table top, projecting onto a matt white wall.
I had read one professional review which waffled on about colours and skin tones etc, but don’t be mislead by some of these comments, I saw the film Gravity at the cinema in 3D, and again on a Plasma TV Screen from Blu-Ray, and the projector looked no different with respect to Sandra Bullock’s skin tone on the close ups, let’s face it if you took a room of people and asked them to their opinion on colour, contrast, brightness etc you would not get a consensus so take it with a pinch of salt.
For me, apart from my own impression, is the look I have seen on everyone’s face that has seen this, without exception each person has just stared, mouth slightly open and silent, they have been transfixed, I have watched Films, Football and TV Series like Game of Thrones and Fargo all look great, I have not tried any 3D as yet but will do in due time.
One thing to note, if you watch Std TV it looks like Std TV, if you watch a HD Broadcast and they use archive footage it will look like archive footage, it is not magic.
I would also say it is worth using some sound system, the internal speaker ok to start with but a fuller sound not only complements the picture but takes the edge of the noise the projector makes, generally I don’t notice it but if you turn the sound down or mute, once you notice it you hear it if you know what I mean, soon goes once you turn the sound up and immerse yourself though.

Really happy with the image quality and brightness for this price!
The speaker is more of a gimmick.
Something I am missing is horizontal keystoning, but that is mostly available only in professional projectors if I understand correctly.

Fantastic projector. Throw distance was better than expected. Picture and brightness are superb, it's just like looking at a huge 1080P monitor. Would definitely recommend.

I've been using this projector for a month now, watching both 3D and 2D films in HD on a 106" screen. I can say that it's a solid projection with vibrant colours and excellent 3D. I bought 4 pairs of SainSonic 904 Zodaic glass which work well with this projector once it's switched to DLP mode. The picture is bright enough even with plenty of ambient light and it's very quiet. There's a decent range of adjustment options, and an optical zoom the range of which was too restrictive for my purposes but this seems to affect most projectors and should be an element of your research.
The reason I've given it 3 stars rather than 5 is that physically it's extremely difficult to mount. I've bought 2 different universal projector mount kits and it fitted neither of them. In the end I had to fashion an interface from wood. The 3 bolt holes are of non-standard size (too small to have confidence in their strength) and they're too close together for either mount to accommodate. I had to buy bolts separately from a DIY shop even though the universal mounts are supplied with a range of bolts sizes. The end result is ok, but it took a lot of effort and if I wasn't a competent DIYer I would have given up and bought an Optoma mount. I suspect this is Optoma's objective but one supplier is never going to provide a product range suitable for everyone so it's quite mean-spirited to make it so difficult to use other's mounts.

Like most people investing in a home cinema projector i did a lot of research and this looked like the best for the cost. I previously had a BenQ PE7700 projector so i had something to compare to
So the good and the bad.
Good -
Fantasic picture on full HD, colours are good and blacks are very black ! Half the size and weight of my old BenQ so thats a bonus . Giving it 4 stars instead of 5 due to the bad points below.
Bad -
No mount screws in the box so if your buying a non Optoma mount, you will have to buy screws.
No Lens Cap !
Zoom is useless. The BenQ - 9 years old had a much much better zoom. So i have to move the projector back about two feet from where it was last mounted which is a pain, drilling another hole in the ceiling !
Lumens - The Lumes is over twice as good as the Benq, so watching it in a bright rooms is quite good, and fantastic obviously in the dark room, but if you are going to be watching this with both movies and TV during the day in a bright room i would maybe pay the extra and go for the HD25-LV which has 3200 ANSI lumens

Currently displayed at 60" inches on a cream painted wall, waiting for a new 72 inch matt white screen which should help the quality a little.
One tip when buying a celing mount, my last one which i stupidly sold was nice and neat and the new one i bought of ebay is way to big and heavy ( i could swing a cow on my ceiling from this thing !! ) make sure you buy a small and neat mount as new projectors are small and lighter as technology gets better :)
Will update when i get the screen and have a play around with the picture settings.
Overall very happy and would certainly recommend getting one over a 50 / 60 inch tv.

Ok first of all I'm going to start off by saying I had an amazing sony kdl tv which was a 42 inch loved it but I wanted a bigger screen for the ps4 and my movies so this is when I got this bad boy I purchased this knowing I'd have a decent screen size and maybe a less picture than my tv but I was totally wrong the picture the full hd the 3d the size I have on my wall which is 150 inches that's only half what this projector can project up to its just absolutely amazing I've wasted alot of money on gadgets in the past but this is my best investment I've ever done pl as ting the likes off killzone and destiny then in 3d aswell it's just pure and utterly brilliant don't hesitate you won't be disappointed I don't go on holidays and stuff I'm not into it this is what I'm into my movies my ps4 even watching the rugby on it the other night was just amazing there is literally no way u can fault this projector out of this world for the price range and quality u get 5 years ago u would of paid a couple of grand for this quality

Firstly, the price was not as good as i thought. Black friday discount was only £20.
Yes the focus issue exists, but it's hard to spot, unless you are looking for it.
Now the review...
Packaging was very good. I plugged it in the same day i received it and was excited to see what the performance will be like.
The fan is loud straight out of the box but after tweaking the settings, noise was not a problem. I disabled the bright lamp mode and switched off the dynamic blacks.
Picture out of the box is good enough. The menus are not detailed and there arent many options to tweak the image. Colour calibration (at least for pro level) is not possible. The projector is hooked up to my A/V receiver and PC, PS3, and Raspberry.
It works great with PC and PS3 but there were a few sync issues with the raspberry and raspbmc.
I project on a big wall. (around 90"). With the lights on, it was watchable but nothing great. With lights off, the image is very good but don't expect black blacks. more like dark grey. I tried many blu rays and I'm happy with the performance.
The focus issues other reviewers mentioned, exist. But really you must have a really bad unit or you are very picky. As others said, top focus is not the same as bottom focus. You can enable the grid mode in the settings to test this. Although it's noticable, it only affects the bottom 20% of the screen or less. When you are watching a movie, you can't see the difference. It's not perfect but for this price it's really good. I'm gonna keep mine.
Pos: Great value for money. Very nice image when watching blu-rays. Default settings are very good in a dark lit room. Quiet on ECO mode.
Cons: Not many colour calibration options. Not advanced features like lens shift, memory etc. Not uniform focus across top/bottom of the screen. For 3D you need to spend an extra £90.

Had this a small while now and so far its been a beast of a product, i mainly use it for 2d films, 3d films and gaming, and will review it for each.
2d films. It is better than any tv i've owned and ive had a good few, the colours are fantastic and the blacks are great, (mind the blacks could be slightly better but unless you have the eye of a eagle you wont care.)
3d. Simply wow, this projector made me a believer of 3d films, it truly does a fantastic job, i whacked Avatar on it and was blown away, a 3d tv can't even scratch this bad boy at producing a good 3d image.
Gaming, i have only hooked up my ps3 / pc to this but in each instance it has done a fine job while i was gaming, very little (in other words not noticeable) lag.
Other notes.
It's one hot mother trucker.... it gets hot. so to keep it cool its fans are in work 24/7. While its not that loud to me if you are sitting right ontop of it i can imagine you will easily be able to hear it.
The inbuilt speakers aren't great but i have had a some enjoyable movie experiences using them when i origianlly set this up, however if you are buying a £600 projector i would expect you have some speakers laying about somewhere.
The menu on mine is a little funny, it quite often glitches and i have to leave the menu and reload it, while its not a major problem it DOES get annoying. I may have to get a update.
Final note, the focus on mine has a problem, i am still determining whether its enough of a problem however for me to return it, what happens is the top left and bottom right corners dont focus properly (you can focus one corner but not the other), Optoma know about this issue (as its wide spread) and do fix the box for you however, but for movies and games ive never noticed it. But i can imagine if you are displaying documents this will be a issue for you!
2d films. It is better than any tv i've owned and ive had a good few, the colours are fantastic and the blacks are great, (mind the blacks could be slightly better but unless you have the eye of a eagle you wont care.)
3d. Simply wow, this projector made me a believer of 3d films, it truly does a fantastic job, i whacked Avatar on it and was blown away, a 3d tv can't even scratch this bad boy at producing a good 3d image.
Gaming, i have only hooked up my ps3 / pc to this but in each instance it has done a fine job while i was gaming, very little (in other words not noticeable) lag.
Other notes.
It's one hot mother trucker.... it gets hot. so to keep it cool its fans are in work 24/7. While its not that loud to me if you are sitting right ontop of it i can imagine you will easily be able to hear it.
The inbuilt speakers aren't great but i have had a some enjoyable movie experiences using them when i origianlly set this up, however if you are buying a £600 projector i would expect you have some speakers laying about somewhere.
The menu on mine is a little funny, it quite often glitches and i have to leave the menu and reload it, while its not a major problem it DOES get annoying. I may have to get a update.

Mind blowing.
This is our 3rd projector - the first in 1080p and 3D (Though we have a 3D Philips TV and were a little underwhelmed with the depth of the 3D - this thing blows it out of the water!).
We've had Epson and InFocus in the past, with our most recent being a 720pDLP from Optoma. This is without a doubt the best performing across all categories of those we have had before and I would wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone looking for a decent home projector. We are projecting a 9' screen onto a lumitec painted wall - with excellent results even in the darker images of films like Gravity in 3D.

Had to return. After risking the purchase I found that this projector has bad rainbow effect, even in a darkened room. The other problem which was the reason I returned the item, was that the picture was not in focus across the screen. For example, if the top of the screen was focused and clear, the bottom would be blurry. This was not really too noticeable when watching movies but for things like menus and using the laptop, this was pretty awful. I have since bought a Epson EH-TW5200 which I am very happy with.

I was unlucky enough to receive an unit with lens focusing problem (poor convergence).
This is known issue affecting only few early units (according to Optoma).
Anyway, the unit has been sent back to Optoma and repaired and returned quite quickly. The issue is fully fixed.
The projector is great. Especially considering the price.
Having moved from 720p model, the resolution simply blows away.
Black levels are very good. Light is uniform. Focusing sharp.
There are a lot of settings to play with (although the menu navigation is less than intuitive).
One thing I was slightly disappointed is that it's not possible to use 120Hz in 2D in native resolution (1080p).
Gamers out there will know what I'm talking about...
Still, the input lag is not noticeable, and the projector is good for gaming (at 1920x1080@60).
Some people have correctly noticed that the projector has slightly steeper offset/angle than the specs say.
That means, you'll need to mount it slightly lower (ceiling) or higher (standing) to get picture with no key-stoning.
The included remote is very handy to use, however its back-lighting is probably visible from space....
Pros:
- excellent price/performance
- very good picture
- good brightness
- long lamp life
- lots of settings

I am not sure what the hype is about. I purchased one based on the reviews on amazon. I was under the impression this will make my HD 50" samsung 3D TV look bad. It doesn't. Yes image is big and clear. But the colours are just bad. Colours are washed out. Yes I know its a projector and you should expect colours to be alittle washed out compared to a TV but not as bad as this. Even after playing around with the settings its nothing special. The reviews are misleading or people that have purchased this are basing the quality on price vs quality. £500.

Now that I have had the projector for a month and use it every day I can say its worth the buy. 3D and 2D is very good. As mentioned previously the image is big and clear. Saying great value for the price always sounds like there's a nasty catch there somewhere or some huge compromize you'll be forced to go for. Not in this case though as you really get your bang for your buck. Picture quality, esp. in terms of sharpness is obscenely good! Color reproduction, well... It's OK, even for watching pro photos, though there is clearly some vibrance missing to the colours. For the movies, though, it's way more than enough and the joy you'll get from this thing will sweeten the hole in your pocket. One thing, however, if you really want to be picky and you pay attention to detail (like photographers tend to do ;) ) is rather low light dynamics, meaning anything below certain level of darkness melts into a single dark spot, as do very light areas that get blown visibly too soon.
So there you have it, but having said all that I am extremely happy with my purchase and I can warmly recommend this projector to any movie-lover with my conscience clear.

This is my second Optoma projector after upgrading from a HD200 to gain 3D.
Firstly, the bad news. There clearly is/has been a build quality issue with this model, which considering what you are getting for your money is not really surprising. The first one delivered from Amazon suffered from the soft focus at the edges which has been well reported in other posts. In fairness for a home cinema projector it really is not much of an issue as you can't see the difference while viewing, plus films with borders won't even go in to the softer area. However, I do view text on occasion so was not happy enough to make-do. I emailed Optoma asking if there is a solution, surprisingly, support is top notch and I was emailed back very promptly asking me to return the unit. Collection was arranged by Optoma and just over a week later I received another brand new projector. Good news this time as the lens was perfect! I have to say the service is excellent, even emailing asking for an estimated time received a prompt response.
The Good, Picture quality is top notch as expected from Optoma. There are plenty of calibration options, however, the Reference picture mode is near perfect, so you could just select that mode and be good to go. 3D is totally amazing, free from crosstalk and fluid judder free motion. For those considering upgrading from an HD200, the main difference is the projector is brighter and perhaps a tad more colourful. However, if you are not in to 3D I think the gain is probably not enough to justify the upgrade as the HD200 has an amazing picture in its own right + build quality is better. If you want to benefit from 3D though it is a worthy upgrade.
