Saying great value for the price always sounds like there's a nasty catch there somewhere or some huge compromize you'll be forced to go for. Not in this case though as you really get your bang for your buck. Picture quality, esp. in terms of sharpness is obscenely good! Color reproduction, well... It's OK, even for watching pro photos, though there is clearly some vibrance missing to the colours. For the movies, though, it's way more than enough and the joy you'll get from this thing will sweeten the hole in your pocket. One thing, however, if you really want to be picky and you pay attention to detail (like photographers tend to do ;) ) is rather low light dynamics, meaning anything below certain level of darkness melts into a single dark spot, as do very light areas that get blown visibly too soon.
So there you have it, but having said all that I am extremely happy with my purchase and I can warmly recommend this projector to any movie-lover with my conscience clear.

This is my second Optoma projector after upgrading from a HD200 to gain 3D.
Firstly, the bad news. There clearly is/has been a build quality issue with this model, which considering what you are getting for your money is not really surprising. The first one delivered from Amazon suffered from the soft focus at the edges which has been well reported in other posts. In fairness for a home cinema projector it really is not much of an issue as you can't see the difference while viewing, plus films with borders won't even go in to the softer area. However, I do view text on occasion so was not happy enough to make-do. I emailed Optoma asking if there is a solution, surprisingly, support is top notch and I was emailed back very promptly asking me to return the unit. Collection was arranged by Optoma and just over a week later I received another brand new projector. Good news this time as the lens was perfect! I have to say the service is excellent, even emailing asking for an estimated time received a prompt response.
The Good, Picture quality is top notch as expected from Optoma. There are plenty of calibration options, however, the Reference picture mode is near perfect, so you could just select that mode and be good to go. 3D is totally amazing, free from crosstalk and fluid judder free motion. For those considering upgrading from an HD200, the main difference is the projector is brighter and perhaps a tad more colourful. However, if you are not in to 3D I think the gain is probably not enough to justify the upgrade as the HD200 has an amazing picture in its own right + build quality is better. If you want to benefit from 3D though it is a worthy upgrade.

same focus issue as others, one corner out of focus and other corner sharp.
I also have to manually adjust the focus every few days and there is the most annoying egg timer (i will asume it came straight out of a windows 95 icon set) that keeps going off when the resolution changes, the egg timer stays on screen way too long, for example, i miss half (if not all) of the great 3D intro for my imax blu rays while i wait for the timer to go away, I'd sooner just see the resolution change. I have an older sanyo projector and no egg timer and im considering going back to it.
on a positive note the 3D is not bad, some focus issues now and again but its ok.
I couldnt honestly recommend this due to the basics being wrong

The projector is very well priced. It arrived on time. The air packaging inside the box is very good in protecting the product during transit. Very easy to set up and easy to ceiling mount. I attached the projector to an 3d blu ray player with an high speed hdmi cable and have not been disappointed. My screen cost approx £130 pounds and is 120" diagonally in 16:9 ratio. I purchased some cheap 3d glasses and some optoma 3d glasses and they both perform the same. The colours and depths of 3d are astounding. I no longer go to the cinema. The experience at home is exactly the same. You will require an totally blacked out room to get an good picture but when you do, the picture is outstanding. The fan is very quiet and the projector does not get too hot. There are an lot of options for tuning the screen to your own requirements. There is also an easy to use manual zoom on the projector itself and an manual focus. Very happy with my purchase and am enjoying full 1080p images and full 3d.

Amazing quality. Colours, 3D, features. All absolutely fantastic. I did a lot of research before purchasing and I'm very pleased with this projector.

An excellent projector and is just what I wanted, a full 3D projector that doesn't break the bank and plays all manner of 3D movie files. Although Optoma have now brought out the HD141xe (check out the Optoma uk site) now so that will probably now be better. It plays all manner of 3D movies, full 3D Blu Ray to ISO and OU/SBS ones with great resolution (obviously you'll need some sort of 3D Blu Ray player or 3D media player for either your discs or files). Gravity was fantastic, as was R.I.P.D. - I have it fitted on ceiling and sit almost directly underneath and it is fairly quiet. I recommend either this, for those looking for a projector under £500, or go for the newer HD141xe.

I am very glad I bought this HD131Xe projector + HDMI 1.4a cable + DLP-Link ZD301 and then ZD302 glasses.
Like many people I am sure, I spend a day trawling the net trying to find out if this package was going to work. I already had an old Infocus IN104 projector and a 2m wide screen, 3.5m from the ceiling mount and wanted something with a HDMI lead to plug into my newly purchased LG BP630 blu-ray player (bought for easy netflix watching but then struggled and failed to use a HDMI to VGA adapter with the old projector - note: it's impossible as the converters don't re-scale HD to VGA resolutions, lesson learnt). Anyway, it was not clear on the Optima web site or manuals if I needed to get the RF sync'ed glasses or these ZD301 DLP-Link glasses which Amazon were saying other people bought together with this projector. I can confirm that these DLP-Link glasses not only work but give completely flicker free results after a few seconds of self adjustment. Just start the film and press the button on the glasses (select DLP-Link as the output in the projector menu). If you press the button on the glasses then start the film they can sometimes require switching off and on again to get them sync'ed properly as I found out when I thought one of the lenses was not working on my new glasses. I have since gone on to purchase the ZD302 glasses which are superior in every way, including price!

Have recently upgraded to this from the Optoma Hd600x as the DLP chip had started to die after many years of good service and heavy use.
I am primarily using this as a gaming projector with the xbox one.
The picture quality is stunning when compared to the 600x.
The inbuilt speaker is surprisingly good though you are unlikely to be using it in most situations.
The 3D picture is brilliant, I am using the SainSonic Zodiac 904 Series glasses.
I am projecting onto a regular plain white wall and the colors are good, but the room must be vary dark.
I am primarily using this as a gaming projector with the xbox one.

I've been wanting a projector for a while now but couldn't decide on what to get as I didn't have a huge budget. Saw this and it ticked all the boxes, Full HD, 3D, lots of connections and in my price bracket. The first time I saw the picture it blew me away, so much better than I thought it would be,I spent that evening trying all different Blu Ray's putting it to the test.Cars is one I use for the colours and detail and I was very impressed with it, Avengers Assemble is another I tried and again it surprised me how good it was with shadows and contrast of darker scenes. The thing that amazed me most though was the 3D, put on Gravity and the depth compared to my 3D TV was league's apart. Very impressed and would recommend to any one thinking of getting a projector for the first time. Can't go wrong.!!

My projector came without a lens cap; this is the main reason for the non-stellar review. The quality of the picture was great when showing movies and such, but for some reason worsened considerably when I tried to project photographs - it took out all the details from the darker areas, turning it all black. Still learning how to adjust image, so perhaps I'll find some way to improve the photo-projection...

Bought this projector for a function room at a football club. The quality is fantastic, true full HD, the quality with Sky HD is really really good. I've run a HDMI cable to the Sky Receiver and one to a wall plate so that a laptop can be plugged in. I've also run a VGA cable to the same wall plate. I'm projecting onto a wall where we have put 3 sheets of hardboard and painted it. The screen is a massive 13ft by 7ft.
The projector is simple to setup, the menu is easy to understand.
I attached the projector to the ceiling with a TecTake Projector Beamer Ceiling Mount Bracket. I needed to buy some M4 screws as the mpounting bracket did not come with them.
For £499 this is an absolute bargain and I would recommended it to you

Excellent quality in a very good price. The high contrast works great with 1080p bluray films (like a cinema), also delivers very well the motion of every film because of the 24 f/s. Another aspect is that the screen can be very big and the quality stays in high standards. Great projector!

Stunning picture, black blacks, vibrant colours, 3D works great (but I don't personally like 3D). Handles every video source I have thrown at it so far without a problem, even my camcorder and computer. Best thing I have bought in ages.

Great image. Were I to pick flaws it wold be the size of image you get at what distance. 2.5 meters for a 1.5 meter screen is not great. Also, I have a high shelf for my projector. The projector is designed to project up at an angle so I have to raise the back up and set the keystone to the max. I'll have to build a rig to mount it upside down to resolve this.

This projector is worth every penny, i bought the hd131xe and plugged everything into my AV receiver and using just 1 HDMi. I had to use optical sound output on some devices to get Dolby surround sound as it don't use HDMI arc.
Zoom and focus was easy to do and the remote control responded great for me.
I have sold my 46inch 3d TV as I will use a old HD TV for sky and this will only be used for gaming on PS4 , PS3 , and to watch movies on.
The gaming is great and less input lag then my old LCD SAMSUNG TV.
3D is how it should be seen and is the best I have witnessed and much better then my old TV.
The sonic glasses do work and all you have to do is turn on DLP link, no emitter needed and will save you more cash.
Cons. No lens cap , online manual only

We have thought about buying a projector for months. We were unsure about contrast and picture quality, but wow, this projector has just blown us away. The picture quality is awesome with HD and Blue Ray, and very good on DVD and standard definition TV. Haven't tried 3D yet. Very bright picture, but needs a dark room to show it at its best. The only criticism I can give it is the reds are just slightly to strong. I read reviews about moire patterns being visible from DLP projectors, but we haven't experienced this. Highly recommended

My trusted Optoma ds316l finally gave up the ghost after 5 years of constant use I used this as an excuse to myself to upgrade to HD at last. I had been so impressed with my first Optoma projector, I was only ever going to buy another Optoma model. After a lot of thought & research - this was the model to go for. This is absolutely outstanding. Makes my old one look so dire in comparison, & I'm still blown away each time I turn it on. I should have bitten the bullet many moons ago! If you're thinking about buying this, think no more. You will be very happy. Bring on the world cup on my 10ft screen!

This indeed does everything that it says on the spec sheet, and does it well, with no fuss or bother. Image quality is really good for the price. If you want better, be prepared to pay well over twice times as much, if you really must. Most people will never notice the difference, so why waste money?

This is fantastic! i have had numerous projectors in the last couple of years. Some have been for work use and some for my home cinema. Those that i had bought for my home cinema had previously been returned (amazon were 5 stars on accepting my returns). This was not the most expensive projector i bought or the cheapest, but it is by far the best! clear, crisp, bright picture which when in HD is just like being at the cinema. reasonably priced as well!

I was impressed with every aspect of this projector with one exception: if I focus the top part of the image, the bottom was out of focus and vice versa. I read the manual, tried adjusting all relevant settings and the projector's angle as against the screen. I have owned other Optoma projectors and so know what to expect. A potentially great projector, but unfortunately quality control means an Amazon return/replacement. The lens appears to be misaligned in this case. Frustrating. All other aspects met or exceeded expectations. Definitely worth 'a punt', but be aware that a return may be needed.
UPDATE: replacement unit has the same problem. This projector does a fine job for movies, but if you want it for presentations/training and need a sharp image across the screen, then this doesn't appear to be the right choice. My inexpensive Optoma pico projector manages a more consistent focus across the screen than this model, based on the 2 units I've tried.
UPDATE 2: 3rd unit is much the same. I can only assume this is the norm for this particular projector. Focus can be set to provide a razor-sharp image at the top (say) of the screen, but then the text at the bottom of the screen would be blurry enough to be headache-inducing. My old 720p InFocus X9 finally died after years of faithful service (fan not starting, horrible whirring noises). After considering my options, I went for an upgrade in both brightness (1800 ->2500 lumens) and resolution. The only complaint on the InFocus was the noise (30dB). The Optima has it beat hands down: I really believe they have erred on the side of caution with 28dB they claim.
So now I'm looking forward to World Cup action on a big (120") screen. And the games are great too.
Can't say about the 3D: got to get some specs and find some films to watch I suppose...

We've just received this today and is now set up, well sort of. Abit more tinkering about and it'll besorted. The picture qquality is amazing on this projector. We're really pleased with it and highly recommend.

After trwaling through many reviews about projectors, price brackets, performance vs this and that I went for the 131Xe as my first projector. It didnt disappoint especially with 3D. However, it stopped reading blu-ray media after a couple of months and only worked when I used the second HDMI port. I have come across other users who have had the same problem with the HDMI ports espcially with #1. Can't fault amazon. I had another projector within two days and have sent the other one back. Don't know how the high street retailers can compete with this type of customer service.
