Pros:
- Amazing bright & smooth screen
- Great performance
- Clean software
- Elegant design, Stellar Black colour looks super stealth
- Very good rear cameras especially ultra wide. No fish eye effect. Good detail and dynamic range. Video in artificial light surprisingly good also even at high resolution & high framerates due to large camera sensor.
- 8k video good for future proofing. But I think 4k video is a lot more consistent and what should be used instead.
- Loud and clear stereo speakers.
- High quality vibration motor adds better haptic feedback. Both this and the stereo speakers are massive upgrades from older OnePlus devices.
- Great that the phone still comes with a charging brick in the box. Very Fast wired and wireless charging. I timed a 5%-100 wired charge in 27minutes. This changes the way you use a phone. Such a great feature!
Cons:
- Fingerprint sensor placement isn't the best. Would prefer it to be a bit higher up on the screen.
- Speed and reliability of indisplay fingerprint sensor Isn't as good as rear mounted OnePlus 6 one. Still very quick and good especially for indisplay sensor. Surprised how good these are. Minor con.
- Front camera not as high end as competitors.
- Battery life is an A- not A+. I get around 6-7 hours screen on time running phone at 1440p 120Hz. This depends on your usage habits so can vary for different users.
However for the past several months the phone gets hot in normal mode and the battery drains quickly, it will last maybe 4 hours of moderate use and about 6 on battery+ mode which is a huge shame
I'm going to contact them as it's still in warranty and have seen others have the same issue, hopefully they can sort it
Old review:
Good things (coming from an s20 ultra)
-Latest Snapdragon chip
-The matte finish on the back is better than shiny glass.
-Fingerprint reader is very fast and much more accurate than my last phone.
-Oxygen OS is close enough to stock android to use as is (sooo much better than One UI).
-Supplied wired charger is superfast!
-Camera is pretty good so far. I prefer not having super saturated photos as I did with the s20 ultra.
-Comes with a case
-Battery life is good, the phone lasts me the day.
-Cheaper than a Samsung
-The whole throttling thing
-Despite that it can get quite hot under heavy load.
-One+ are apparently merging oxygen OS with Colour OS and future updates will be based on that.
-Not much clarity on the number of OS updates for the device (Samsung are actually good at this now, how things change).
-No SD card slot or headphone jack.
I guess I'm happy enough. I think the days of new phones surprising with design or new features are long gone. This is a good device with a few drawbacks that will nonetheless do very well for most people at a slightly lower pricepoint than its competitors.
It's super fast, thanks to the snappy processor, and has a very nice camera. Other phone do better in the selfie department but on the rear-camera, with the recent software updates OPlus has made, the "Hasselblad" is a little more than a simple logo slapped on the back. Still not what they hyped but pretty nice.
I'm loving the XPAN mode and the photos are extremely crisp, not over saturated, and overall very nice.
I upgraded from a Samsung Galaxy S10 and even from that, there are some Samsung features I sorely miss. TL;DR - Mostly gaming related.
1. There's no customisable quick access app tab that Samsung has. It literally holds all my frequent apps perfectly which I can swipe to bring up on the side of my home screen.
2. Game launcher settings. In Samsung's, I could mute "Game Sound", meaning all games would be muted, at any time. No having to go into settings for each individual game, which you can only do from the home page of the game anyway. With muting game sound, I could do it at any time and play my own music or podcasts over it etc. This is REALLY needed.
3. Screen lock for gaming. It would dim the screen and touch lock it while the game kept running at a lower FPS in the back so conserve battery.
- OnePlus has it's own game launcher so these features are definitely ones it could implement.
3. Secure Folder by Samsung is amazing. It's essentially a sandbox, any app can be put in there, and it will have it's own secure version without hiding or removing the main app. This means you can have a second camera, gallery, files, folders, broswer, games WHATEVER inside there, secure locked. Allows for simple, yet effective sandbox cloning or securely keeping files safe, without have multiple apps for different things. The closest thing functionality wise would be apps which clone your entire phone, but it kills your battery. Secure Folder doesn't. It's a patented Samsung tech though so I don't expect OP to have anything soon.
1) impossibile to make phone calls. You can use it the normal way, that is by your cheek as the screen will never go black and you always end up pressing buttons and it's embarrassing
2) why does it keep taking screenshots????
3) contactless payments won't work
4) you leave it in the pocket and it starts inserting the wrong pin, randomly
Not a good value for money
The fingerprint sensor works nice and quickly and the facial recognition is very quick too. However, sometimes the phone would be stuck in "pocket mode" and need manually unlocking before it would do anything, also there's no VoLTE which I didn't realise when buying the phone, but not a deal breaker.
Charging (even wirelessly) can be silly fast (60w!) which I think may be this phones biggest down fall... After 6 months of use the phone really wasn't lasting a full day of my normal use (which it did with ease when I bought it), but I couldn't find anything that was being draining... After 8 months of use it was really getting bad and I ran a battery health check along side a few full charge cycles... The results came back at 1920mAh! 43% of the design capacity!! No wonder it wasn't lasting well! Fortunately the phone is still under warranty and this is considered beyond expected wear and tear. I do not want to have this happen again so I'm not exchanging or, I'm going for something else this time...
Literally can't fault the phone at all
As per the phone, it's a good mobile as per the price. If you love photography, stick to pixel 6....there is no competition to that. I chose one plus 9 pro over pixel just because of warp charging with in box charger and body design. One plus feels lighter than the new Pixel series.
I have done lot much R&D among Samsung S21, Pixel 6 and One plus 9 pro. Let me know if you want any comparison details in specific.
After a very, very long wait for the Android 12 update, it is with great regret a fatal blow not only for this device, but for OnePlus in general.
I can confirm that the rumours that Oxygen OS and OPPO's Color OS merging to one, rather horrible OS are true.
The main advantage OnePlus had, Oxygen OS is no longer valid, the handset now is running an image of the much cheaper entry level OPPO devices' OS.
I would've bought an OPPO device if I wanted the Color OS experience. I did not.
This phone is now heavily discounted (£609), but it's not worth a penny after the new update.
Gmail notification still not working, battery drains like mad. And most importantly, it's not running on Oxygen OS anymore.
Stay clear, this will be my last OnePlus device.
I am actually considering a Samsung for my next phone, yep, it is THAT bad!

Original review:
This is an ‘upgrade’ from my beloved, favourite OnePlus 6 which I have been using for almost 4 years now, and is still running just fine.
The 9 Pro is a bit heavy, but balanced in your hand and the ‘brushed’ glass finish at the back makes a nice change from slippery glass and makes it a lot more safer to use without a protective case.
It’s also a bit ‘longer’ on one handed-use, you do get used to it but the shape of the more square OnePlus 6 was much better.
I can go on forever but I will list what I consider pros and cons.
Pros:
1- As mentioned earlier, the overall look and feel of the handset is excellent.
2- Oxygen OS is, hands down the best Android flavour I tried.
3- The camera is not a DSLR, but it’s much better than many alternatives.
4- Ridiculously fast charging, 10 minutes on the charger will keep you going for a full day (With screen on 60 Hz and lower resolution).
5- Wireless charging is finally integrated.
6- Fingerprint scanner is lightning fast, and much better than conventional physical sensors.
7- A super responsive device with no lagging or delays, throw anything at it and it will do it without complaining.
Cons:
1- It’s an expensive 5G handset, that does not support 5G reception on a Tesco Mobile SIM card.
2- Again, it’s an expensive 5G handset, that does not support VoWiFi or VoLTE on a Tesco Mobile SIM card.
3- On default, the excellent display has a horrible yellow tinge to it, need to go to settings and change screen calibration to correct it.
4- Screen is beautiful when set on full resolution and 120 Hz, but it drains the battery like nothing I’ve ever experienced before, it’s just not practical.
5- Battery optimisation has gone insane, Google Fit does not count steps, Gmail notifications are hit and miss, and all other apps are affected with different levels of interruption. This however seems to have improved a bit since the latest update I received 2 weeks ago, hopefully it will rectify it and be back to normal.
6- Camera can be a bit tricky on auto mode, it will decide what object to focus on despite you asking it to focus somewhere else too often for my liking. (Software can rectify that).
7- A rather heavy, thick handset could’ve easily accommodated a 3.5 socket, which would’ve been much better.
8- Curved display looks nice, but otherwise useless.
I can go on forever, but these are the points that are, in my opinion, count as pros and cons.
Would I pay £829 for this phone? No is the simple answer. I got this handset when it was on sale for £679, and that’s the only reason I’m keeping it. I will repeat what many other people have mentioned already,
A flagship phone (2021) for £650.00 is unbeatable value.
The quality of the phone is amazing, the screen quality, the speed of the processor and the overall feel of the build is premium. The camara takes some really good pictures and the battery life is perfectly acceptable.
In January 2022, my phone upgraded to Android 12.
I had to completely factory reset the phone. Yes, it was annoying but also very necessary.
Many people are complaining about various issues and problems after the upgrade to Android 12, but the factory reset solves all of them. (Well, it did for me)
In conclusion for £650.00, this phone will do fine for at least 18 months.
The spec is still good for 2022. The snapdragon 888 processers does not overheat in my phone and 12gb Ram is more then enough to handle the most demanding games and Apps.
Camera doesn't have a 16:9 option ?????
The dark mode notification panel is more grey than black...very annoying.
The latter is being fixed in A12.
I should also add:
Curved screens suck, hard to find curved glass screen protectors.
The black version of the phone has what I can only describe as a negative grip it's that slippy.
Comes with a case which is pretty good.
Screen is really good at 1440p
I get 6 hours SOT, battery is incredible
Charges incredibly quickly
However, leaving out 16:9 whilst having 1:1, 4:3 and even 20:9 ???? Just screems they don't care. Lost a star.
This phone :
Pros :
Cameras are good, but only if you fiddle about and change to 48/50 mp cameras. Standard photos are good, but not the best.
Battery life is OK, I get home from work and it's on 30+% at about 5/6 pm. I'm not a heavy user, so it's average at best. I charge the phone wirelessly overnight, but the 65w fast has been a godsend to top up.
Cons :
Once the factory screen protector comes off, its a ball ache to get a decent one that lasts! I've tried lots and I still haven't found one that lasts longer than a few weeks.
El protector de pantalla tiene una pequeña muesca.

My old phone was a Huawei P30 Pro which I loved - but after 2 years of heavy use, it was starting to show signs of age.
So the OnePlus had some really exciting reviews & based on those one was bought. At the first use, I couldn't believe how hot it got and was dismayed to see the battery drain to the concerning 50% with only a hour of use. A firmware update did solve the heating issue, but...
1. The software remained glitchy and slow (the phone would freeze, apps would become non responsive and shut-down) it was almost impossible to switch to an app (such as contacts) when making a phone call.
2. The camera, despite being the legendary Hasselblad, was terrible - it was so slow that many pictures were blurry. Oftentimes you would take a picture only for some mysterious post-processing to occured and render the image worthless.
3. The final straw came a couple of weeks ago when the phone lost the SIM card. Amazon Tech support tried to help, before I was put in contact with OnePlus tech support. The OnePlus support was amongst the worst I have ever experienced from any company - completely without sympathy. After insisting that the only option was to access my computer to flash the phone (without being able to give any reassurance that they would not compromise my data) they were so confident the flash would work, they hung up and declared the phone fixed (it was not).
A final complaint to Amazon and a full refund was issued (thank you Amazon). Now using the old Huawei which on reflection still takes better pictures and has a better battery life.
Will never, ever buy another OnePlus - what a joke of a company and a joke of a phone.
Cons: Compare to the system on my Huawei, OnePlus' system is not as smooth. An app does not always turn on and some apps keep having faulty issues that cannot be fixed until an update of the system. The battery runs out more quickly than I thought. At the end of the day I usually have about 19% left while on my Huawei Mate 20 Pro it was usually about 40%.
Pros: I like the camera and the default tone setting. It makes colours very sharp in photos. The screen is also very good as you can slide through content very smoothly. That experience is really good. The phone charges really quickly - 30 minutes to full charge makes it very easy and efficient.
I really struggled to see any significance improvement for the extra money. Then the phone totally locked me out 1 day, so I returned it.
I for one am a customer whom was left highly disappointed.
The Phone in itself was a lovely sleek phone, lighter than the OnePlus 7 Pro with a slightly larger screen size and less curvature.
Performance wise there were a few blips which I suspect would be ironed out as new firmware updates were released, as to be expected.
HOWEVER
The Phone itself did not work as an actual phone.
What seemed to be intermittent issues in receiving Messages and Calls was persistent from date of purchase.
Long story short, the phone would not receive messages or calls until it was put into Airplane mode or Rebooted, after which it would be fine for a period of time and seem to drop back into the same state.
After a bit of digging it seems quite a few people were reporting this same issue but no-one could actually narrow down the source of the issue with OnePlus themselves included.
I decided to run through some testing and eventually found that the issue could be replicated on demand by simply making an outgoing call.
I have no idea what was happening or why but for some reason after you made an outgoing call you would no longer receive incoming calls or messages.
(The caller would be met with the same automated message that they would when the phone was switched off.)
I ran through various "troubleshooting" methods with OnePlus whom were clearly reading their standardized scripts, ignoring any of the input I had prior given them (asking questions I already answered) and treat like I am technically inert after telling them they had provided incorrect instructions, which they had due to their poor copy pasting skills (a quick google proved this).
Once I achieved what they aimed for me to do, by using the googled steps, they then rather condescendingly responded with a "congrats".
Given the whole experience I decided to request a refund from Amazon which they were happy to oblige with a very refreshing customer support experience compared to that I had just been met with by OnePlus.
All in all I am very disappointed with the OnePlus 9 Pro and their customer support. I hope that this saves someone the headache I experienced when purchasing this phone.
What I will say is that
+ OxygenOS is the nicest rendition of Android.
+ This phone is the fastest portable device I've used for general use. The iPhone 12 Pro Max's lower refresh screen really hurts it in side by side comparisons.
+ The cameras are genuinely the best ones on the market for some type of workloads. If you want accurate, balanced, nuanced images that you'll sometimes playback on a large screen like your tele, then this phone will be better than everything else in it's price range. The only phones that are any real competition at £829 are the S21 and the iPhone 12. I think this outdoes them both at this price and even competes with the Pro Max and Ultra in some categories.
+ The build is gorgeous, the matte black is the nicest stealth black I've seen on a phone. Very close to the It's like a simpler version of the S21 Ultra.
Cons
- The slightly curved screen is much better than the OnePlus 7 Pro days, but it's still not as good as a flat implementation
- The telephoto camera is an afterthought. It takes grainy artifacty photos.
- Chrome on android is still a poor mobile browsing experience due to scaling issues. The samsung browser and firefox are both much better.
All in all, at this price, this phone is a triumph in the UK market. It's closest competition is the S21 Ultra and the iPhone 12 Pro Max and they're both significantly more expensive. They're also both better than this phone but I think this is better value for money.
