I noticed that Logitech has DOWNGRADED the subwoofer in the new Z906 to only 8". That is the same size as the sub from the Z680 from 3 generations ago. What are they doing, trying to pull an Apple? (Apple removed backlit keys and then re-added them and called them a new feature!)The original Z-5500 subwoofer was a deep sounding 10" subwoofer!Logitech also CONVENIENTLY omits this detail in their specifications page. I bought this and then returned it after it arrived and found out it was using the same speakers as the Z680's.After comparing them with my existing Z-5500's, these are definitely NOT better sounding. The bass can't go as deep and distorts where the Z5500 handles them flawlessly.I used to have the Logitech Z-680's which were 8" subs, they definitely didn't hit as low as the Z-5500's 10" subs that replaced them.It's lame that they downgraded down to the 8" subs again. While the 680's sounded good, they still can't compare to the 10" sub when watching movies or playing games.I actually ordered these, but then quickly canceled the order. Going from my Z-5500's to this would be a downgrade.The only thing I like better is the black console. It's black, so it matches my TV better and is horizontal instead of vertical, which is less obtrusive.Input cables going into the back of the sub is NOT a good design idea. Subs put out low frequencies, which means most people know you can hide them anywhere out of the way and you can still hear them.That's much harder to do if you've got to run input cables from your TV or other devices into it.Again, Logitech dropped the ball on "improving" their next gen design. Instead of being able to conveniently plug devices into the control console, you have to get cables long enough to reach the sub.Overall, these two huge flaws say one thing, Logitech made these decisions to save money and make more profit but at the cost of making an inferior product to the one that it's supposed to replace.Lastly, in breaking with the Z680, Z5500 lines, Logitech failed to include speaker stands with this set. This might affect you if you like to hang speakers on the wall. More info in this thread on that:[...]Well, on the bright side, at least the used market for the Z-5500's will still be strong!

I got them,unpacked them,Hooked them up to my computer and tv, I have an xbox 360 but never could get used to the game controller,But when i got these baby`s it made everything different,I just started playing and the sound was so awesome, it was like i was in the game, O yeah, FEAR2 is the game. This logitech is not going to replace a full blown AVR 5.1 system, but for a teenager or someone looking for something good to use as a complete sound system for the computer, XBox, Bluray, it sounds great. Lots of power, good base and clear directional sound for such small speakers.It also comes with long length of wires that can reach most typical rooms this system would fit in.I gave it a 4 stars because there is better out there, but not at this price range and package.

I got this as a gift and in my application these are awesome speakers. Currently i am running both these and my old x-530 simultaneously on my laptop and just these on my tv and whatever garbage i have attached to it when the laptop isn't in use and i have had no issues. there could be things made better, yes (absolutely no audio system is perfect) but for the price paid (300) this system is amazing.

Absolutely blown away witht he quality of sound from this system. This thing sounds better then the more expensive stereo equipment and 500 watts is nice and loud! The speakers are nice and heavy and it is just good. The only thing that would make this better is if it came with wireless back speakers but I just picked up something for that.

I went from an old Midiland 5.1 Surround system to this and it floored me when I first fired it up. I got so much more bass from my music and the mids were way better. I cannot say that this is the best system out there but it is one heck of a good system compared to what I had. I love having the seperate 6 inputs so I can have more than one computer hooked up and just switch to the correct input. I am not much of a gamer but it makes what I do play more entertaining. I am sure it isn't for everyone but it does justice to whatever I send thru it.

Using with the optical input which automatically gives me 5.1 support without all of the input cables. Allows control of sub, front and rear separate from the center. Made for computers, but don't hesitate to consider using for home theater.

great surround sound system in the $300 price range and would definatly recommend. only concern i have is that with the optical it would b nice if the system could create a virtual 5.1 setting with a stereo source as it does with the rca input. on optical input if the source is stereo it only comes out 2 front speakers and sub but that same stereo source comes out virtual 5.1 when going through basic red and white rca inputs

I have been using these speakers for over a year now. Each speaker is no further than 3 feet away from me. Use them for the computer, games on computer and XBOX 360, television, and music. Love the digital surround (when available) from Sound Blaster X-FI and and the XBOX 360. More than enough power to crank it up! Only two tos-link input connections so I do have to manually switch connection from satellite receiver to XBOX 360 - my only complaint.

Its been three months since i had this product and i have to say i was really sketchy about it looking at the other negative reviews.Its a good speaker system but like a couple have mentioned their systems eventually crapped out.I found a problem with this system on the second day of owning it, the Z906 has a heating problem.... lucky i was able to catch it pretty quickly. within 2 hours of use, or being idle, the heat sink on the back will get really hot, like a crotch burning laptop if you ever had those experiences. any who you can kinda solve this problem by giving it a dedicated fan blowing at the aluminium panel in the back of the sub. i have mines on medium and always on when the z906 is in use. and still its slightly warm.I'll let you others know when it lives up to 6 months.Others would probably give it a 2 or 3 stars but i really like this system so 4 stars for now :D

Not gonna bs you with what you can read on amazon about the product description, but I will tell you that these speakers are friggin awesome for the 330 bucks I spent on em. I've listened to a lot of speakers in my life, and consider myself an audiophile, and have to say, at the price of 330 bucks these speakers sound better than ones I've spent 6000$ on. The 8 inch sub is beautiful.... logitech knows what they're doing with bass, anything bigger on this system would make it extremely bass heavy, kind of like what you drive in the city and hear the buildings shake from people who have 6000 watt speakers in their trunks. They stated this was a home theatre application for speakers, and they're right. 500 watts rms is good for home theatre, anything more and you're asking for a deafening experience. The 8 inch sub (that I've read almost everyone complain about) is soft, yet gives good punch when demanded, and has a very good range of tones with hearing very little if no distortion. The only thing with it being and 8 inch is it physically cannot hit extremely deep tones, even though it is rated for them like a 12 inch plus subwoofer can achieve. I stress the 330$ price point on these, its an absolute steal, logitech put out a phenominal product and an even better price. I almost passed these up because of the price, and what I read about them online, but my bank account had another idea, so I went with these. Only thing I wish this speaker system could do is shut off all the lights on the control head after like 5 seconds of making adjustments, but it's not the end of the world or nothing because half the time there is some other light source inflicting on my tv experience.

Replaced Logitech 5500 set that had faulty controller. Sounds great. A little better then last set. One major difference; optical connection located on Sub NOT controller like previous version. This caused me to purchase longer fiber optic sound cable. This will change your sub speaker position in room if your set up was like mine. Minor burden. Still great set.

Some back-round. I'm a musician and an audiophile. Prior to kids 19 years ago I spend thousands on high end gear such as $4,000 DA converters and such. I know good sound and can't understand the few highly negative reviews here. They made me think twice and then some on buying this and extremely happy I went ahead with the purchase. This is a $300-$400 system (depending on the sale price you get) and for that money this system absolutely blows any other options away. I can only assume the source system, sound card and such some are using is simply horrid.I'm coming from Klipch Pro Media surround whose amp-bass have just gone south. New computer I built recently using a Creative Labs Recon 3D sound card, using the toslink digitial output (you need to use this for true 5.1) and every thing I throw at this system from Blu-Ray movies, regular DVD's, 5.1 audio DVD's, CD's, Streaming concert archive music from the net and so on is just freaking fantastic. Bass is perfect and I know bass as I play with real bass guitars.Good luck and may every song be your favorite tune.

I replaced my 2 year old RCA home theater with this system and it is a sweet upgrade! This Logitech is better, it can be turned up LOUD with no distortion (well to my ears) and it makes movie watching a much more pleasurable experience.This system took just a few minutes to set up, the instruction manual, though surprisingly brief, was informative enough make the set up a breeze.It gives you a few choices on input ( i.e computer, digital device, MP3 player/IPOD etc and there are several choices of sound configuration which are more than enough to satisfy my tastes.The one area which it loses one star for me is that there is no AUX input which makes hooking up almost anything a task. I found that using the green plug from the computer input hook-ups works OK but it is not full stereo so you will need to buy optional cables that at the $350 price tag seems a bit unfair.This speaker system basically functions as a home theater but is not specifically described as one and could actually fit into a few different possible set-ups. The Bass is not too overwhelming and I find the quality of the same is excellent. The booming bass on some home theater systems are too much for me to the point of being annoying, but this Logitech system is not like that and it brings out the best of the sound.The quality of the build is quite acceptable, though the remote control is TINY and will be easy to misplace, it is also fairly simple with just enough control to make it worthwhile.Music and natural sounds such as the ocean sound very good, and although I have only been testing it for three days, I decided to put up an initial review which I will update as I feel fit.Bottom line, this is a good speaker system which works great as a home theater system for me, it is priced a bit on the high side and there are other systems out there that offer more features for the price but may not offer the sound experience, which is the purpose of buying such a system. I suggest you read plenty of reviews before buying but this system gets my full approval!

I purchased this system for my son & he was blown away with the audio & sub woofer response, I already own the earlier Z5500 system which was Logitech's premier system until it was replaced with the Z906 system, great buy for the money.

This was another purchase for my son. He uses it with his gaming computer, and I have gotten no complaints. In fact, when his fraternity brothers annoy him, he cranks it up and blasts them out of the room--so I've been told.

This system replaced my aging Klipsch 5.1 Ultra speakers after the Kilpsch amp failed a second time (over several years).IMHO - The Logitech Z906 system surpasses the Klipsch's in every way - separation, bass, highs and sound quality. I could not be happier with my purchase.Recommended!

I bought these speakers a couple weeks ago and I absolutely love them. I purchased this set while Amazon had them on sale for $300 and I must say they were worth it. While im sure you could spend double or triple the money building a Cerwin Vega set that would be high quality then these, for the price, these speakers really cant be beat. I listen to alot of Electronica and Dubstep, etc, etc, and even at max volume the sound from these speakers does not distort, though its really hard to be in the same room with the volume anywhere near max without the risk of going deaf. Many people who had the Z-5500 who wrote reviews mention that Logitech went from an 10" sub to an 8" sub, I would not let that fool you. This sub still puts out plenty of power, enough to rattle the windows through out my two story house and even hear the bass thumping outside. I bought two of Amazons Basics TOSLink Digital Optical cables to go along with this and im extremely impressed all around. Like I said before, if you can purchase these when amazon has them on sale, they are absolutely worth it.

This was really my first surround sound system, and I can say I am pleased.This system is compact, one compact center channel speaker, a left and right compact speaker, a compact left and right rear speaker, and a nice sized subwoofer. Everything is hard wired and operated by a small control unit that is wired to the subwoofer. All the inputs and speaker outputs go through the subwoofer.Available inputs are 2 toslink, 1 coax, 1 RCA and one computer style with 3 3.5mm jacks.The unit can be operated with an included IR remote that lets you select inputs, volume and effects.And the effects available are: fFull DTS sound, where the unit decodes the full digital 5.1 signal.Simulated surround sound which uses all speakers.A quad sound , where the system uses only the front and rear left and right speaker and the subwoofer.And a straight stereo which just uses the front speaker and subwoofer.So a bunch of different options depending on what you want to do, but I don't understand why you wouldn't want the full 5.1.The sound quality for a more compact style system is great for me. I have the system set up in my mancave running optical line from my SAT box and Xbox 360 and I am more then happy with all the sound quality.From the reviews I guess the previous sound system to this was better, but I have no qualms with this system, good bright sound, a subwoofer that will rattle windows if you have it up loud enough and nice looking setup.If you have any questions about the system please feel free to leave a comment and I will be happy to answer.

Was delivered well packed. Solid construction. Attractive and simple to connect. Sounds awesome in our living room with high twenty-foot ceiling. Did not find any excessive heat with woofer backside. Like the ability to shut speakers on and off remotely. This is my second Logitech speaker purchase recently, the last was a THX setup for computer. Great buy, would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a similar solution.

As PC gaming speakers ONLY, these get 5 stars. Games sound unreal. The sub shakes my desk, and directional sound is perfect. FPS's never sounded better. If you are using these for gaming primaraly then you can't go wrong. DO NOT BUY for music, as this system is really bass heavy and the speakers can't produce crisp highes or mids. Music sounds terrible and just doesn't work well on this system . Get some studio monitors or headphones for that, and leave these for games only.

This surround sound system for PC is the most awesome system we've found. Our last surround sound system, which was almost as good, died and we could not get replacement parts for it. It was better only in its wireless front to back capability and we hate the extra wires it takes to run it to the back of the room, but since no one makes an affordable "wireless" surround sound system for PC these days, with 5.1 digital surround sound that supports both Dolby Digital & DTS and is THX-certified for home theater, we are very happy with this one. The sound quality is as good as we've heard anywhere.

The speakers are great for movies. Good for gaming. Not the best for music but decent. Very good bass reproduction. Good imaging. But satellites sound a little flat (music) if not used with a good sound card. All in all for the price I won't complain. Use digital for movies and analog for anything else. Plenty of inputs (no hdmi) so I am pleased.

This is the first speaker system I've used, so I don't have any previous experience to compare them with. Regarding these speakers, they are great. Obviously, as I said, I'm comparing them to just the regular TV speakers I've been used to. Overall, the Logitech Surround Sound Speaker System is a good system for those wanting to turn their room into a more theater like atmosphere. It's not as expensive as some of the other systems out there, but you still get great sound. I imagine it depends some on the room you are putting them in, and what you are hooking them too as well.I'm not a speaker expert, but these are working great and provide excellent sound. One problem was they take up space, so you have to figure out where to put them for your system. The remote is a bit cheap, and I hope it doesn't break. (Plastic) But that is a small thing. They are definitely loud enough, but then, I don't like things really loud, so that's never a problem with me. I think this is a very good speaker system that will make many people happy with the theater type sounds in their home.

I recently purchased these speakers, upgrading from an old set of Logitech Z560s. The lows are just as powerful with the 8" sub, but the mids and highs are much more crisp and clear. Multiple inputs, remote, these things are sweeeet!

One is great for the average household user, but I'm not your average type. I bought two for over the top listening experience.I have not yet heard any system out there that equals Logitechs sound quality. Easy to set up and functions are easy to use.

Bought this product twice and returned both. The center and the two front satellites produced annoying static noise when the volume knob was over 50%. Tried different cables (RCA and 3.5mm) from different brands, different sound sources, even used noise filtering cables and tried plugging into different outlets, none worked. I really liked the design of the product and its power, but having a 5.1 speaker system without being able to enjoy at full volume is not acceptable. I am not sure if it is just my problem, but getting two defective products was not that likely, and I would suggest people who will use it with PCs be careful and keep this issue in mind. I recommend people looking at this get a z-5500 instead, which I owned for a year with absolutely no problem and no noise, while having a similar stylish design.

Im not sure why there are a lot of bad reviews here. Coming from a Logitech z5300 to this is amazing. I have an audigy 2 zs sound card, but with lacking driver support for windows 7 and no digital in, I decided to invest in the creative x-fi titanium. When i first got the speakers they sounded horrible. The music sounded flat and not very appealing. With 2 days of burn in music finally started sounding a lot better. But still I wanted that crisp and clarity of dts. So I upgraded my sound card and voila! Pure amazingness. So don't be discouraged by the bad reviews on here. Get a good sound card + optical cable and these speakers will rival any other speakers out there.EDIT: Also just played around with the settings on the x-fi titanium. If you listen to music a lot, enable the x-fi crystalizer tab and set the cmss surround from xpand to stereo surround, sounds so much better in music, but in games u might wanna keep it at xpand. Sounded good before, now it sounds even better. Also I keep cmss to 40% front, but thats just my personal preference for music.

Pros: Sound is terrific, very clear.Cons: Logitech offers no support.If anything goes wrong and it's out of warranty, you have an expensive paperweight on your hands. You can't even pay to get it fixed, you can't get any replacement parts, all you can do is throw it in the trash.

Purchased this to replace a Dell system from an old Insperion which I liked alot.These are great for the price. I wish there was a way to boost the base but unless you are wanting to "feel" the base from a distance these work pretty good. The cables to the speakers are long enough that I accidentely used the front speaker wires for the rear speakers and there was still a lot of slack.They only come with PC sound card cabling so you will need AV cables or something for your TV or gaming console.Recorded HD items and games sound fine. If you turn the volume way up though it will pick up every little sound on things like youtube videos. Have not figured out how to fix that.Would recommend these.

For the money this is a nice looking, sleek and somewhat innovative speaker system and control pod, which could be used as a computer sound system, or an entry level home theater set-up with limitations (I'll come back to that)The 500 Watt RMS is certainly loud, and all of the speakers, including the sub woofer perform well in my opinion, with clear and at times crisp audio.The set up is pretty straight forward, although I'm not a fan of the inputs or placing of the connections, as everything you attach has to be wired through the sub woofer (which I assume is where they hid the amplifier unit) which has shrunk to 8" from the previous models 10" version.Factory default settings on the sub woofer by the way need to be cranked down if you are using this in a small room. That get's me back to the home theater thing, with everything connected through the sub woofer, unless you have miles of cables, everything will be sitting pretty much on top of each other, which sort of defeats the boasted 5.1 system.Also, there are limited RCA Jacks, or even USB ports to add on.It looks nice, it sounds very nice, and it's very easy to use despite a flimsy cheap remote, and will no doubt grace many a dorm room this fall.One must consider however that a reasonable AV receiver and passive speakers can be purchased for less, or not much more and will give ultimately better options.4 stars overall which is generous, but the build quality and sound make it worth that.

Anyway, I have to say I'm pretty impressed! Some other reviewers were pretty critical of this system, in terms of its audio quality and design, but I personally have no complaints. (I'm a little bit deaf, so maybe other people will pick nuances that I'm missing...) In terms of usability, it seems fine - once it's hooked up, it works great, and sounds terrific. I've never had such a fancy sound system before, so I have nothing to compare it to, nothing to do but enjoy it, and hope the neighbors don't complain about the noise. :-)

By far the best computer speakers I have ever owned or listened to... Even beats quite a few home theater systems. I used to own two other Logitech speaker sets, Z523 2.1 set and later the Z623. The Z623 was exceptional in it's own right but doesn't even compare to the Z906. Has a virtual 3D setting if you only have a stereo input. I Personally have these babies hooked up to my X-FI in my desktop and absolutely love the surround capabilities of a 5.1 system especially when playing games or listening to multi-channel audio. Also love the included remote, makes it easy to use as a home theater system. The bass that comes from this system literally shakes my entire dorm room and the rooms next to me, but they don't really mind :p. If you are a music lover or audiophile on a budget I would GREATLY recommend this system!

The speakers were set up, they were used twice before they started to burn. The subwoofer turned pretty much into a smoke machine, the speakers were inmediately unplugged but it kept shooting out smoke for about 5 minutes. DO NOT BUY ANY PRODUCTS FROM LOGITECH, their customer service stinks, they never even apologized, it took them almost two months to reply to me, and their refund will take up to 6 weeks. I ordered these speakers about a month ago, so far so good. free 2 day shipping is always good. Packaging was awesome, no way there could be any damage done by delivery ware and tear, well packed. Sub hits hard even though its only 8 inch compared to the 10 inch sub from its older model (z5500) my brother has the z5500 and i cant tell the difference between the z906 and his z5500. speakers are heavy and dont feel cheap like iv read in other reviews, so what they have some plastic..the sound is still crisp and vibrant. I like my console more then the z5500...just easier to use and see form far away. 2 fiber optic inputs on z906 compared to the 1 on z5500. Look wise i think the z5500 has a cooler look... but the z906 speakers are black.. and you cant really complain about black. Wires are good length for small or large rooms. over all these speakers are great...even better if you can get them at discount on amazon.** does not come with fiber optics cable..kinda a bummer... but just order a 5 dollar one on amazon! DONT GO TO BESTBUY AND SPEND $50 ON ONE....that would be retarded...god i hate bestbuy.

I have never owned Surround sound before- I have never set up speakers, never had to deal with all these wires and cables, etc- but I found it pretty straight forward to set up. It was a little hard to figure out where the speakers should go in the room in order to evenly space them, I was surprised to find the Digital Optical Cable you need to attach the speakers to the TV is NOT included, and the electrical cord coming from the Subwoofer you need to plug into the wall outlet is not very long so placing that was more complicated than I think it should have been, or would have been if it had a longer cord.Once it was all set up and you use the remote to choose what speakers you want in use at the time the sound coming out is great- it was like being in a theater- the subwoofer was even making the ground vibrate! I have only been using them for a short period of time, so I can't comment on how they handle different shows, like concerts, sports, etc- or address what some people have been saying about how the speakers stop working suddenly- I will update if anything changes.

I wanted to simply connect this system to my tv and have a great sound while watching an action movie. Having the closest neighbors ? mile away (yes, I live in the middle of nowhere) allowed me to crank it up real good and enjoy the sound.As I connected everything, I found that there were no RCA cables included, yes that simple! And there is only one set of RCA outlets! The wires are just long enough to have all four speakers in the corners. Sometimes I think that wireless would be great, but with wireless internet, laptops, cell phones, ipods, and what not, another wireless system might be an issue, so from a practical standpoint, this is good for now.Like I said, the sound is great, clear and deep. I had to play with both remotes (system and tv) to get the volume right where both of them had good quality, then after that, the movie was awesome!Now then, about the manufacturing quality of the product. All 5 speakers look sturdy enough, same as the console, but the subwoofer is another thing. It is not as heavy as I would've expected. It is definitely made with cheap Chinese plastic stuff. That's what bothers me, I know that they spent little money sending this product to be manufactured overseas and yet, they charge American money for it. That said, I don't know how long this system will last me, I must say, I am not very confident of its durability, and for the money, I would rather go for a Sony system. It's too pricey for what it has to offer yet.
