First of all, I have to subtract one star right off the top for this item not being completely functional out of the box, and I know that mine is not the only unit in a small volume of those shipped that was bad. Not a good sign. While it did work, the volume/power knob did not switch the unit on or off and did not alter the volume. It does light up with its nice yellow glow, however. It would be a solid three stars if not for that.It connected easily to the Windows XP computer I tested it on, and played right away with no need to tweak any computer settings (except volume). The sound quality is not bad for such small speakers, and for most people it would probably be adequate. It is definitely a step up from the "standard" speakers that come with most new computers. It was very crisp and clear in the mid and high ranges, but a little weak in the bass range, which is understandable for small speakers. It takes a certain sized cone to move enough air for adequate bass response, and that doesn't happen until you get to 5 or 6 inch speakers, in my opinion, unless exotic cabinet designs are used.It was nice that they included a USB extension cable as the main cable is quite short. I did not try the USB hub for speed or function, as my time on the test machine was limited. The USB ports are pretty close together, which means you would most likely need more extension cables. The instructions are on a foldout page with multiple languages in each section. The directions were minimal but adequate, and I would have liked more detail about the construction and function of the unit. (Like the vendor was actually proud of it.) The power cord is about 5 feet long or so, and connects easily on both ends. The construction was pretty good for something like this, and felt very solid. It is stylish and will appeal to those for whom looks are important. While the sound was okay for computer speakers (I run my computer audio through a full 120 watt stereo system with 8 inch three way speakers, and have used 12 inch three way systems as well, so I am used to very good sound), I am not sure about the viability of this design. It is useful as a desktop speaker setup, but I wouldn't consider it very travel friendly, as it is not small. (A little bit smaller than three 18 inch aluminum foil boxes stacked together, two on the bottom with one on top.) However, it is one unit with only two wires, and that will appeal to some who get tired of the rat's nest of wires needed for separate speakers. Then again, one won't have the flexibility of placement that one would get with separate speakers. That trade-off is a personal decision.I also have serious questions about the functionality of using a computer to stand in for a much cheaper CD/mp3 player. While there are certainly computer audio uses (it might be great if you view video/movie files on your computer), I think that its actual usefulness is rather narrow. Headphones give greater privacy and portability, and a larger sound system would be more desirable for a fixed location. Also, it only takes audio over USB from your computer, so you can't use it for any devices other than a computer (for now at least). I would rate it higher if there were analog inputs for a CD or mp3 player. I also question the wisdom of using USB bus bandwidth for something that could easily be handled by the audio card and its dedicated ports (which is on and drawing power anyway). The idea that it is "digital sound" is pure marketing hype, as the sound will get converted from digital to analog one way or another before it goes to the speakers - either in your audio card or in this device's amp. These speakers have no advantage there. There are other devices out there that would do the audio portion of what this speaker does, as well or better. My preference would be a separate USB hub and a more versatile audio amp and speakers. For travel purposes, it is definitely too large and requires AC power (it is not powered by the USB line). I think this is more of a gimmick than a really useful item, but I'm sure there are those for whom it will work really well.I would advise really thinking about your audio needs carefully and researching well before you decide on this unit. I'm also not sure how reliable it will be given it was defective out of the box, and was not a returned item - it had all the original plastic protectors in place.

I have been using these speakers for about 2 years, first on my Toshiba PC lap top and then on my current upgrade, a Mac Book. The sound packs an impressive punch from these speakers. So rest assured, your music won;t sound like you are listening out of tin cans. Two things which stand out what I do not like. When the volume is cranked up and I want to lower it by turning the knob on the right side of the speakers, it takes 30 seconds up to an entire minute for the volume to actually get turned down. These speakers act as if they have a mind of their own.Secondly, these speakers are not as small as most of these comments make them out to be. I happen to believe that they are bulky looking. These speakers are not compact nor are they of use for those on the go or mobile users with lap tops. These speakers are stationary and they are appropriate for a tabletop or desk. So if looking for speakers to take on the go, these are not the ones to buy.But if one is looking for amplifying sound instead of listening to the speakers from a lap top that sound like tin cans, then this would be a wise purchase.

First things first, I am a Mac user. So my review is going to sound a bit different than many others you're going to read.I have to assume this is a Plug And Play item on XP and Vista machines. Not exactly that easy on my iBook G4 laptop (not Intel-based). I actually had to go into Sound settings in my System Settings and select it over the internal speakers. And once I did that, and closed out all my browsers (I use Camino, which is esentially Firefox for Mac OS, Firefox, and Navigator) it worked fine. Up until that point, the sound wouldn't (for reasons I'll never understand) come out of the Hub, but instead still came out of the laptop's speakers (but only for the browsers, all other applications worked admirably, although there was a HUGE amount of difference in sound levels depending on the applicaiton). But just closing the program and restarting it fixed this error. Now to the review of the actual machinery:Nice, sleek design. It would look great (all black with lots of ultra shiny surfaces) in most settings. Though the thing is covered in dross collecting speaker mesh (even on non-speaker opening areas). They have these big warnings all over the packaging saying not to put your finger through the mesh or extreme damage may occur. Not kid friendly, obviously. It has a useful cord collector/USB hub (although the USB ports are tucked behind the right speaker making them more a fumble and feel proposition). And to me a useless webcam stand/mount.This is a powered setup, it won't function on the go and though it hooks up to your USB port, it doesn't get its power from there. And that brings me to an interesting quandry; who exactly is this thing for? I use my laptop ON MY LAP or if I take it someplace (remember, this thing needs its own power outlet) I'd have to haul it around and find two outlets.OK, so I suppose its for folks who use their laptops in stationary positions where this unit is supposed to sit behind the laptop, and provide a sort of backstop with benefits function.I personally have it sitting behind me on the end table as I sprawl on the couch. Same place my Creative 2.1 speakers used to sit (before I moved them into the bathroom since they are a lot more useful with my first generation Nano (remember, these things don't have any other way to get information than through the USB cable -- NOW with a 4 foot extention, giving you 6 whole feet to play with).SOUND:They sound OK for small powered speakers. Not great. Hollow, especially for something with the 2.1 moniker. The midrange is OK, crisp enough. Dialogue is delivered well enough. Highs are a bit sharp. And the things crackled a bit until I figured they liked having NO equalizer and midling pre-amp. Bass is almost nonexistent. Not really surprising considering the size of the speakers. But a real comedown from the Creatives I had before. (I had to turn down the bass on them to a minimum and it still rocked the couch.)I tried lots of music I know well, from alternative, to classical, to bone thrashing tracks that sounded particularly de-boned.So, why buy this?PROS:More stylish than standard powered speakersHandy dandy USB portIlluminated volume control (with handy push button on-off) that actually controls my Mac's master volumeSliding adjustable placement of side speakers for extra-wide laptopsThat webcam mountCONS:More expensive than a really GOOD pair of 2.1 standard powered speakersUSB hubs are easy to find and CHEAPMediocre bass responseUSB only input (don't try hooking anything other than a Shuffle or other USB device to it)Not portableThese are not my favorite Logitech product. (That would still be my wireless PS2 controllers, those things are amazing.) They sound better than some Logitech 5.1 powered speakers I got about 5 years ago that were just awful, WAY too much bass and not enough anything else. But they're a niche product I don't really see the niche for. Maybe if they were powered by the USB, and therefore more portable. But you have to give the folks at Logitech kudos for trying to go more upmarket. This thing is really nice looking, simple, clean (sound like any fruit-named electronic manufacturer to you?). And if you need a backstop, with modest sound, this is not a bad investment. But it isn't going to replace Creative Inspire P7800 7.1 Powered Surround Sound Speaker System.UPDATE:Dead as a doornail as of 1/31/09. Not up to snuff for Logitech.

I've had luck with Logitech speakers in the past, thought I'd give these a try for traveling presentations I give. They sound great and actually have some bass to them (not crazy deep, but it's there!). Glad I bought them and can't beat the price.

These speakers arrived today and after unpacking they took about a minute to set up. They use one USB port on the laptop. Dell MINI in my case. They then provide you with an additional three USB ports. The speaker bar is a little heavy to take on the road, they also require an external AC power source, but if you're like me, I don't care to wear headphones all the time and earbuds drive me crazy! I listen to a lot of pipe organ music, both church and theater and the music is a challenge for any speaker system. These don't disapoint me. Be realistic, they won't shake the walls or cause your neighbors to bang on your door, but they will provide you with a very realistic and acceptable sound experience.

I purchased this item for my son to use in his dorm. It turns out that the speaker is set up to be used outside the U.S. and requires an adapter for use in the states. This was not disclosed previous to purchase however DirectDeals4U would not issue a refund as requested. Neither would Amazon since it was past the 14 days. Be forwarned if you are purchasing from this dealer (DirectDeals4U), especially Christmas gifts since they are many times bought well in advance of opening.

I got these as a gift for my cousin who complained about his Asus computer speakers not being loud enough. Well, that is no longer the case! The speakers have great sound quality and volume for being as small as they are! They sit just behind your laptop and also have a bar that mounts to the back of them to hold an external web cam. Not a necessary feature but a cool little bonus!

Conclusion:The Logitech audiohub provides "OK" quality sound but has some drawbacks that would have caused me not to buy it.Detail:It's my fault for not fully realising that the dimensions and weight of this thing would not make it so portable. The whole reason I bought it was for my laptop,- when I take it places I'd like to also take along some quality speakers because my inbuilt ones are poor. The actual size and heaviness of this thing mitigates against it being so "portable".The sound quality is OK-ish but thats about the only plus point I can see apart from the price and build quality is decent. Here's a list of pros and cons:PROS-----Good build qualityOK-ish Sound100-240v universal voltage so I can take it abroad with me :)plug and play no problemCONS-----USB connection cable is way to short,- not all of us want to position the speaker behind the laptopToo heavy and big to slip in your laptop bag and adds lot of weight to your check-in bag, so it falls down on the whole point of it being portable

Great product, pretty good sound for the size and price. It definitely can fill up a good size room with your jams! It's relatively portable and has a nice design that fits todays laptop form languages. I've had it for about a year, lately the USB cable has been acting funky, mainly that if the plug is touched it will mysteriously disconnect, and getting my laptop to recognize it(dell m4400) means switching to the ports on the other circuit (so far side of the computer, a bit of a hassle when I am working and using all ports). Getting sound from your browser to play out of these generally will mean a trip into the control panel and a browser restart, although Win Med PLayer will recognize it instantly, which is what matters to me. Hopefully this longer term perspective helps you with your decision!

Listening to music on laptop speakers is just an awful experience. I'm got a MacBook and if you listen to talk radio on iTunes, then they're okay, but music, you need to turn up. At home it's no problem, I've got a great system, but I do a lot of writing in motel room sand those tinny, tiny speakers don't really cut it and for some reason I can't write a lick with headphones on, jog yes, write no.So, when the UPS girl delivered these speakers I was kind of jazzed. Yes, it's one more thing for me to load up into my car when I hit the highway, but they are worth the effort. I set them up behind my machine, plug in my shorty USB cable and sound-wise I'm good to go. I really like how I can adjust the speakers so that they peak perfectly around the sides of my machine.Yes, they don't sound as good as the system I have at home, but they sound plenty good to me. Now when I sit down to write those thousand words I try to pull out of myself everyday, I rock out to great music. Yep, me on the road, these speakers are a great way to go, cool sounds in cold motel rooms. Such a deal.

With their AudioHub Notebook Speakers, Logitech has produced a wonderful product that will fill a key need in the marketplace. The one-piece design is certainly more sleek and streamlined than competing traditional 2-piece bookshelf speakers. The unit is still not as "portable" as some mobile computer users might demand, and may be better suited for the growing number of those using their notebooks as "desktop replacements." For those seeking above average sound in a sleek package, this unit definitely fits the bill.Pros+ Nice performing speakers with a respectable 15 watts of RMS power+ The beautiful slim black body is both attractive and functional+ Two 2-inch tweeters and one 3-inch sub-woofer deliver surprisingly crisp 2.1 sound+ Nifty connecting tower to hold your legacy webcam+ A nice three-port USB 2.0 hub outbalance the one port used by the system+ Adjustable speaker width allows you to set this behind any sized laptop+ Nice back-lit power / volume control+ 6-foot AC power cable has a medium sized plug instead of the power bricks common with 2.1 speaker systems+ 2-foot USB cable and 4-foot extension cable provide nice connection options+ Cable management area in the back keeps your work area neat+ Simple instructions and plug and play performance for most users+ 2-year limited hardware warrantyCons- No included pouch or carrying case to help transport the unit- long body and wide base are larger than expected and won't fit into smaller back-packs- mesh speaker covers are thin and may be prone to tearing- no traditional input / output connectors for legacy devicesYour average laptop computer has an on-board sound card and low performance speakers. Even newer laptops sporting "name brand" integrated speakers by Altec Lansing and Harmon Kardon usually deliver less power than you would expect from those names. The AudioHub's USB connection provides a digital music stream instead of the two-channel analog sound you're used to from your headphone jack speakers. The well tuned sound has a nice steady range with decent low, mid-range and high range sounds.Even though it is marketed for notebooks, it can certainly be used on any computer, including a desktop. The USB connection allows for easy swapping between computers. The sliding speakers move just enough to accommodate the largest laptops. For the price, Logitech gives the competition a run for their money. The sound is in the class of high-end bookshelf sets like the Creative T20s Creative GigaWorks T20 2.0 Speakersor the Klipsh Promedias Klipsch ProMedia Ultra 2.0 PC Speaker System- Black. The unit sports a nicer range than the Altec Lansing Soundbar, as well as a much cooler design Altec Lansing Soundbar Speakers for LCD Pc.The power adapter has your standard voltages and comes with a "fat head" design instead of the larger one or two part power bricks so many people hate. The USB hub adds 3 ports to offset the one taken away, which is a great feature. Note that there is very little clearance where the ports are. The button on the right side controls power and volume and has a soft glow that may be too bright for some bedrooms.Installation is a snap on Mac OS X, Windows Vista or XP. The included manual is a quick start guide. The minor knocks against this unit are the lack of a travel case or legacy ports. Without an included case, keeping all these parts together for mobile computing is very messy. Not to mention, the soft speaker mess doesn't look like it will hold up to being thrown in a bag with your other gear. It would have been nice to have some legacy ports to connect a few devices to, but they opted for streamlined design instead.Overall, this is a great set. Give the AudioHub a try and see for yourself. Enjoy!

Pros-Good sound, at least in a small room.-Easy to setup-The volume knob works even when you switch off the speaker and are using headphones. Also, it is way faster than press in the stupid dell touch controls.-Less hassle moving my labtop: Hub properties means it takes just two plugs to setup up my computer at my desk (usb + power) . Good if I need to clear my small desk off or take my computer on a trip.-Compact with a low profile, looks tidy even when the computer isn't in front of it (unlike most other speakers)Cons:- It's a little tricky to shut off the speakers and use your headphones (you can't simply plug them in)- The speakers are powered, but it doesn't seem like the usb ports are; I can only charge mp3 players, cell phones, and bluetooths when the computer is on, and I don't like to leave it on when I sleep- even more usb ports would better- at full extension, the speakers sag down slightly, making them less aesthetically pleasing

Ok so I read all of the reviews prior to purchasing this unit. Although it is not good for a large room, or to power a dorm part, it is perfect for the home office. I have a new model Toshiba and while the sound is decent I needed more. I purchased this unit and it does great. It is obviously NOT intended for mobile use, but really who moves their workstation? I am in the middle of my dissertation, so that translates into countless hours in front of the computer doing research and typing. This unit gives me more than enough to "un-numb" my mind. If you are looking for a little extra when working in your home office and even to power a small to medium bedroom this is for you!!!!! The added 2.0 USB ports only make this unit perfect. I recommend this to anyone who wants to improve the sound on their laptop!******ADDITION: As of yesterday (1-11-11) the sound bar stopped working power fried everything jacked into it....DON"T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!

I bought these speakers at an appealing $30 price point because with the amount of movies, TV shows, and music i have i figured i needed an upgrade from the crappy laptop speakers. The Logitech Audiohub is a well thought out design that will work for almost anybody. The sound quality is excellent considering what i expected. The only problem i have is that it does not quite fit behind my huge laptop as well as i'd like. You only see about 3/4 of each speaker. I have a P-7811FX, so this is only a problem for those of you who have large, widescreen 17" laptops. This really doesnt effect the sound quality all that much. The USB hub in the back was simply a bonus for me, i didnt think i would need it at first but over time you add more and more devices that require a USB connection so it really comes in handy.Pros: - Price point - Sound quality is great for what is needed - attractive design - USB hub is very convenientCons: - If the speakers could separate just a bit more it would fit better for me

I had read alot of reviews before buying this for my wife. It seemed that it would provide the best sound for the money. When we got it set up, I was really impressed with the sound. It provided good bass and clear treble. I had expected one or the other to suffer in such a low cost device. The convenience of having a built-in USB hub was a nice design feature. Not only do you not have to worry about having used up one of your ports, but you actually gain. The sound was so good, we tried hooking it up to our HDTV. I'm not going to say it sounds like a home theater system, but it was quite noticeably better than the built-in TV speakers we were used to. We still hook it up to the TV when we watch movies. This is definitely worth the price with better than expected quality of sound.

This speaker is just great for my desktop computer which sits on a small desk area in my kitchen. I have the computer tower in the adjacent pantry closet with cords going through the wall, so I really like the USB hub on this. This is my new sound system for the kitchen, as we have cancelled out satellite radio subscription due to rising costs. I have plenty of room on my hard drive for all my CDs, and can play the music I like all day long. My wireless keyboard media buttons also work to adjust volume or mute with this speaker. The only con I can think of is, I wish it had wall mountings.

I must agree that with other reviewers who have said that these are NOT portable speakers. If you are looking for speakers that you can lug around with you on the road, this is not the product for you. Rather, the AudioHub is designed for your laptop's permanent "home station". I use the AudioHub on my desk at work. It fits perfectly nestled inside the Griffin Elevator that I place my 15" MacBook Pro on. The fact that it has a 3-port USB 2.0 hub built into it is brilliant. I can leave my iPhone dock, keyboard & mouse connected to the AudioHub. Every morning, I just place the MacBook Pro on the Elevator and connect 2 things: AC power and the AudioHub (via USB). That's it! I love the simplicity and elegance of this.Good Things:- Great sound for such a small device.- Very compact. Takes up very little space on your desk or your floor.- Volume dial on the side is super-convenient.- No additional software required. Works perfectly with the USB digital audio support built into Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard. Turning the volume dial even causes the on-screen display of the volume level to appear.- Nice, elegant design. Very austere and functional.- Solidly built.- Awesome deal at $19.99 + shipping!So-So Things:- Not very portable. Best for scenarios where the AudioHub is going to stay put.- No audio input jack. This would be useful if you wanted to use the speakers to occasionally play music from your iPod/iPhone.- Not very loud. If you want to fill a room with loud music or a movie soundtrack (e.g. for a party), then you need more powerful speakers. The maximum volume of the AudioHub works best for "near field" listening: one user at the computer.Bad Things:- Susceptible to GSM buzz. I need to keep my iPhone at least 2 feet away from these speakers to prevent GSM buzz from occurring. This is a minor annoyance and keeps me from giving the AudioHub a perfect 5 star rating. I also own Logitech Z-2300 speakers and they are completely impervious to GSM interference.- The speakers seem to "sleep" when no sound is played on them after a while. When this occurs, the speakers will emit an unpleasant (and almost certainly unintentional) "click". When you again send sound to the speakers, they will "click" again as they wake up.

Adds great sound to my laptop. Slightly clumsy cable placement (the power cable and USB cables come out the wrong sides for my setup) are maybe my only complaint. Has a built in USB hub, but no more than 1 item requiring power or it will be overloaded. Packs in my oversize laptop bag for travel. Vista 64 recognizes it and setup is easy. Piano black if you care. (I am sick and tired of piano black, but it is everywhere, what is next, fuzzy orange?)

Great sound (someone said they were "anemic" but seriously you'd have to have real hearing issues to deem them that), USB ports a real plus, easy installation (everything worked perfectly out of the box). The *only* reason I didn't rate this a 5 star is because the speakers don't clear my laptop (not enough width even stretched to their limit)on the sides. I have a 17" Alienware (it's *not* widescreen). Having said that, the description does say "most" laptops. So I guess 4.5 stars.Well worth the $41!
