If you're on the fence on whether to buy an ultra wide or not (and I definitely recommend them), because they aren't for everyone. I'd consider an ultrawide if...
+You play a lot of PC games that support ultrawide resolution (not all do but most do with some exceptions)
+You watch a lot of 4K/UHD movies (they are in the ultrawide format usually)
+You want to be able to multitask with 2 or 3 things side by side without having to tab back and forth
Some cons to ultrawide...
-Even with anti-glare coating, because they are so wide they pick up background light sources easier.
-Slightly higher eyestrain than regular monitors when gaming fullscreen
-A lot of video content is still 1080p or 720p, which can sometimes be less than sharp in 1440p. If the bitrate is high enough, it should be fine though.
One last thing to keep in mind: ultrawide uses a much higher resolution. While still quite a bit less pixels than a 16:9 4K monitor, if you're upgrading from a regular 1080p to an ultrawide 1440p, you're looking at roughly 60% more pixels to push. Make sure your gaming system can handle the bump in resolution.

I've tried a number of games including Doom Eternal, Rage 2, Far Cry 5, Forza Horizon 4, Crackdown 3, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, and Dirt Rally. Doom Eternal is actually quite amazing and HDR seems to work. Granted, I know this set is only HDR400 (which some people say is useless), but I've dropped around 30 hours on this game with my old monitor and I can see a noticeable improvement. Far Cry 5 supports HDR but the effect is much more subtle. I had to switch it on and off a few times, HDR is better, but it is not a huge difference like Doom. Rage 2 doesn't support HDR but still looks way better (maybe due to 10-bit color), it was just a richer image.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider was also amazing with full ultra settings RTX shadows and HDR. Not sure how much HDR is doing, but overall this game looked like it was next-gen compared to my old kit. I think a lot of this was just the resolution bump, but also the better color. Both Crackdown and Forza support HDR but honestly it was hard to say it was doing anything, but the games both looked very good in any case, so I won't complain. Also, I am running this with a 2080 Ti so performance was really good, around 90 to 120 fps in all the games.
Besides the look of it, the response time is very good (maybe not the advertised 1ms but still nice). Even at lower fps, the monitor felt smooth and responsive, way more than my old set (which kind of have a double image issue when turning or panning very fast). It's still not quite TN level, but for an IPS this may be one of the best. 160Hz overclock was no problem, but you can't do RGB 10-bit and 160Hz at the same time. Since 144Hz is still a lot, I have turned off the overclock so I can use 10-bit color. Though both options are hard to tell, I'd rather have better colors since most games are capping out at 120fps anyway. There were no QC problems, zero dead pixels, no bleed at all.
So overall I am very happy with the monitor. It includes many quality of life improvements coming from a 1080p set, and hits a nice balance of features and quality. I was considering the more expensive HDR1000 kits, and I'm sure the HDR is better, but I think I made a good choice here. The IPS panel is amazing, very little ghosting or any other problems like that, nice clean picture. And the HDR400 actually does something. It's not mind-blowing, but it is noticeably better in some games and a worthwhile bonus feature if you are already buying this monitor for the other reasons. I would recommend.

Coming from 3 South Korean ‘crossover’ 2560x1440 monitors is an upgrade. At first it was underwhelming but once I played a game it was night and day. Worth it... price went up hundred buckaroos since I bought it.

Firstly, it came well-packaged and in fantastic condition - in a timely manner. I really was somewhat worried that I would find this monitor to be entirely oversized or too much for a regular desk to hold - I was gladly wrong to think that. It's a very beautifully made monitor and has ease of access to changing the profile of settings; overclocking it with ease. I play video games, like: Doom: Eternal, Far cry series, and other similar products; this functions well and has been quite a pleasurable experience to finally maintain 160Hz; I made sure to buy a great DV-Cord that was capable of running it maxed out.
Now - I did want to say that I had a pretty maxed-out rig, back when I originally bought parts to build my PC and especially when it's in regards to GPU; so take sometime to consider that, if you are hoping to get maxed performance out of this monitor. I am planning on upgrading relatively soon, but in the mean time, somewhere around GTX 980 or above will be sufficient for running on relatively higher settings for gaming.
Onto other tasks, that are not as "major" (Personally), as gaming. This monitor has delivered on many levels and makes normal functions and uses all the more pleasurable to undertake. Even scrolling through websites is smoother, which has been fantastic, as I frequent them for forums or course(s)/work. I am not able to give a detailed-report for other applications that may have a greater demand. Overall, I will say that going from 27" 60 Hz and pretty basic model, has made this transfer to 3440x1440p Monitor a fantastic purchase. 1k is quite a bit to drop on a cpu monitor, but in my honest opinion - It's definitely not going to leave you wanting, if you are looking for a monitor to use for similar tasks as me.
I hope this review can help some other people out, and give more insight into potentially buying this fantastic monitor. I will say this, lastly: The monitor's brightness is actually relatively decent, and doesn't leave any "blur" or poor black-lighting. Lastly, I did want to mention, as I forgot earlier - this may or may not be something you are considering but, do not buy this if RBG-Lighting sphere is on your *MUST HAVE IT* List, or you will be disappointed. Albeit shows a red ring where the RBG-light 'would be', if it had one - do not be fooled, as there is none on the back-panel of the monitor. Take care, and good luck with your purchase; if you choose to buy it, enjoy your gaming-experience with it!!
Ultrawide is god-mode, all in all.

One downside for me, I connect 2 computers to the monitor. One via HDMI and one via DisplayPort (gaming PC). There's no dedicated input button and the little joystick that controls EVERYTHING on the monitor is dead center at the bottom of the screen. Its really not a convenient location (I have a sound bar...) and it takes 3 presses (if im precise) to swap from one machine to another. No software option (even with hacks) to swap between machines so that part is a little annoying.
I highly recommend this monitor, the pros far outweigh the small computer switching annoyance.

For games, I am running an RTX 2080 and Intel 8700k. I have noticed about 20ish reduction in FPS switching from 16:9 (2560x1440) to 21:9 (3440x1440). With some tinkering around with game settings, I made that back up while still enjoying great quality and the awesomeness of ultrawide gaming. This display being a certified G-Sync compatable using an Nvidia card, I haven't noticed any tearing or stuttering. To me, it works just as find as a G-Sync display. I opted for this display for it's high refresh rates and great gtg response time. If I had the extra money, I would have probably waited and got the Samsung Odyssey G9 as that one looks like a beast! I would probably have to update to a 2080ti or the new 3000 series coming out this year though, lol.
Overall, extremely pleased and would recommend this monitor, LG 34GN850-B.
My only downside is streaming video content as not everything supports 21:9 resolutions. There are ways, like using Edge or an extension with Chrome to force 21:9 video playback, but with some quality issues, zoomed in, or stretched looks.

Edit: I reinstalled windows and have since not had an issue. Seemed to be an issue with my previous drivers but 4 months later and still have absolutely no regrets, bumped to 5 stars from 4.

My only complaint about the monitor is that it only has one displayport connector. My older Mac does not disconnect HDMI whenever the monitor is set to displayport for my gaming rig. For the price, I would have liked to have one more displayport connector or happily traded one HDMI port for it.

Hopefully if someone is having similar problems, they can find this review helpful. Gave it 4 stars for out-of-box settings being not so good. 5 stars after proper adjustments were made.

After using the monitor for over a month, for both gaming and remote work and I am extremely happy with my buy.
I used to have two monitors, but now I am convinced that using an ultra wide is better, specially since this monitor comes with software you can install called "OnScreen Control" that allows you to split the screen into multiple grids. Windows allows you to split in two, the software allows you to split into multiple ways, I think about 8.

The issue is that as the days go by, you need to apply more and more pressure to button to make it work until the contact just doesn't work due to the button being "worn out".
A high-end product such as this should NOT have this sort of issue and the clear lack of customer support should make anybody rethink purchasing this item versus a Samsung, Alienware or Acer one.
Note: My unit has great specs and no dead pixels but this button issue is a deal-breaker.

The included stand...is quite honestly a disappointment for a monitor this expensive. It shouldn't need as much desk space, is should have more adjustability...it is stable...but I'll be frank, a $50 monitor arm from Amazon will be superior to the included stand in all respects.

I buy this LG monitor, open it like a kid on Christmas, completely set everything up, I go to plug in the power cord and nothing. I hear a beep, then it turns back off and the power cord just falls out. Weird right? Well they apparently don't quality check their power connections because I try for 30 mins to connect the cord flawlessly only for it to just repeatedly fall out of place and never securely connect. On one of these attempts I see sparks and hear a weird noise, panel is fried, completely broken...
Given this was through amazon, I requested a refund and a new monitor, woohoo...!
2) New replacement monitor comes... SAME EXACT thing with the power connection. I finally get it to seat moderately well by taping the cord in place so there is no force pulling it out at all (this shouldn't EVER be necessary, especially for a $1000 product). Fast forward a month and a half, the monitor randomly turns off and on, then completely dies. I am now having to fight LG to secure a refund since it is out of the return window for amazon, insisting I must send it back for repairs. How long? They send a return label after 3 days, and then require another 10 business days to actually review the monitor. Ridiculous.
This is the biggest let down ever, I am sick and tired of fighting to get a working monitor. This is ridiculous. I will update this review if LG ever gets back to me. I just want a refund and to take my money somewhere else.

G-Sync also has some issues for me. It’s a “compatible” display but for some reason it wouldn’t engage on occasion which I’ve never seen in previous dedicated G-Sync modules.
