Sadly Lexicon seems to have decided that no one actually needs 64-bit support, and Windows 7 support is still nowhere in sight. This is across their entire line of products. If you have a new computer with the latest OS, then the Lexicon line of products is NOT for you. They just flat out will NOT work. If you have an old XP machine lying around that you don't plan on upgrading, then the Lexicon line of recording studio hardware has a lot of bang for the buck. Just don't purchase their products with the thought of upgrading...I'm now trying to find a similar product that supports 64-bit Windows 7.I gave this product 2-Stars because it still works great under old OS's, but I cannot give it any more Stars due to Lexicon's attitude towards 64-bit OS's, and they lackidasical approach to Windows 7 compatibility.

I've had the Lexicon Alpha since August of '09. So far it's been a great little tool. It does everything it says it does. The recordings sound great with out much tweaking. After a quick browse through the manual I was up in running in no time. I had no DvD Rom, so I went to the lexicon website, and they let me download all the correct drivers. All in all great purchase.

I purchased this because I needed a way to get drum tracks from my laptop to my hard disk digital recorder and didn't want to spend a whole lot of money doing it. I used to have a higher quality pro audio sound card when I had my pc, but those days are behind me and I am not recording to a computer anymore. This does exactly what it says. Keep in mind for a mic, you'll need a condenser mic that runs from phantom power as the Lexicon does not supply that. I've tried recording my electric guitar and mic through it into both my laptop and VF-160 and it works fine. If you're looking for something for pro recording, however, I'd suggest going more to the higher end audio interface.

Lexicon Alpha Desktop Recording Studio is a fantastic entry level interface for high quality home recording on your own computer. The unit has a small footprint but seperate channels for guitar/instrument and microphone. The unit is easy to install and works very well with the included software Cubase LE 4. Although initially Cubase has a steep learning curve once you've worked through the tutorials you'll be recording your own music and mastering to CD's with ease.

The "Lexicon" is a simple mixer with a USB jack.Works great for one person recording guitars with piezo pickups with preamps or magnetic pickups.But not with the accompanied software.This is my first attempt at digital recording and had a impossible time (using Vista)with the software that came with this product. I purchased a high user rated software from Amazon for $67 to use use with this hardware now it works great.A recording studio this is not.This is a mixer in need of good, not poor, software.I suggest searching/purchasing/testing Recording software first.

Plus: I use this cart for my laptop and I like the way it looks and is roomy enough for my coffee and other stuff too.Minus: It tips over easily.It wasn't too hard to put together, but the directions did not quite match the parts and I had to improvise a bit.

I'm not sure why the previous review was so low, perhaps that reviewer was expecting a 24 bus mixer with Pro Tools! Obviously you are not going to get anything near that for <$100! This interface is awesome. In less than a half hour, I had the software loaded (laptop running XP), and was recording tracks, without even reading any manuals. The zero latency really blows away anything that a standard soundcard can do. With the Monitor mix pot, you can control the volume of what you are currently recording vs. what you are playing back, with absolutely no delay that I can hear. Coming from an old cassette 4-track, this is a breeze. I don't know how I've recorded the old way for so long. If you are looking to mic a drumkit, go direct with bass, guitar, vox, and do it all live, this might not be what you are looking for. But if you are a musician that wants to lay down some tracks, perhaps 1 or 2 at a time, this is perfect. I'm just one person--why do I need to have 13 tracks simultaneously recorded? Take a stereo out from the drum machine, lay it down. Stereo out from POD, lay it down, etc. This is perfect for my needs.The only drawback (if I had to find one) is that the Cubase software has alot of bells and whistle to it, some of which you have to dig into. So there is definitely a learning curve. This is a good thing actually, there are alot of pro options in the software that can create a pristine recording, if you know what you are doing. If you don't take the time to learn it and experiment, it could be a little daunting. I guess it is like playing an instrument :-)Overall, awesome product.

As a newbie solo musician looking to record everything myself, this is exactly what I was hoping for. The hardware is very easy to use, I plugged my computer speakers into the headphone out jack so I could choose between headphone monitoring and speaker monitoring. The unit provides ghost power for a mic, instrument in and monitor out. Exactly as advertised.The version of Cubase provided is a limited version but it was more than enough for me to accomplish my goals. With a decent VST drum instrument you can write as complex a drum line as you want, without a super-steep learning curve. I was surprised that the software was so straightforward and the manual is well written, well organized and helpful.For $100 or so this is a great way to start recording. Keep in mind that the limited version of Cubase allows for a limited number of MP3 format exports, so you'll want to mixdown and then convert with a free program like Audacity. The overall quality was well worth the money though.

I needed a simple way to digitally record vocals and my guitar - this device delivers. Easy enough to set-up and gives me exactly what I needed for a hundred bucks.While Cubase LE packs a lot of functionality, I followed the simple tutorial on getting a basic recording done and I was off and running in a few minutes - I am probably only using 2% of what it is capable of doing but I am getting 110% of what I needed out of it.No complaints here.

this product has only one stereo input and one stereo output. don't buy this item for anything but a simple extra soundcard with trs jacks. and be prepared to buy mad cables. no wonder my local store doesn't carry lexicon. they are terrible!
