We have used a Scan Station 100 Plus for a few years, and when we wanted an additional unit ordered the Scan Station 500 (ss500) instead. A very preliminary review, but what you are buying here is a world class paper feeder, attached to a pc with a touch screen, that does OCR and outputs ready to use, searchable PDF files. Another reviewer mentioned that directories cannot be browsed, this is not an oversight. The design goal (for better or worse) is something that an administrator can deploy on a corporate network without compromising network security. What's cool is that 10 people can walk up and drop scans directly into 10 different directories, and that the confidential/protected directories for the CEO are available on walk up, but not compromised to other users. The strength and limitation of this unit is that it is designed for enterprise use, with a high priority on security, HIPPA, PCI DSS, etc.Set up has a little bit of the "IT Sys Admin" feel, and absolutely requires a PC. Once configured, the basic interface is an ethernet connection to shared storage, and/or a USB key. The ss500 office-user fast at OCR (not industrial speed). Image quality is very good (for a sheet fed scanner). The latest upgrade to the software rotates documents so that they are saved as PDFs with the top at the top even if fed up-side-down.RAM: I'd love to be able to upgrade its 1gb RAM to 3gb. (Uses XP.) I'm using the attached flatbed, which is a nice extra and produces much higher resolution scans.EXTERNAL KEYBOARD: Kodak doesn't say this for some reason, but you can attach a USB keyboard to this. The touch screen is fine, but being able to type a file name with a real keyboard is *much* faster. If all goes well, I may come back an give this a 5, but for now 4 stars.COMPARISION WITH SCAN SNAP: I Have also used/own a ScanSnap S510. The Scan Snap a great unit, but because it is directly attached via USB to a single workstation, and requires drivers and special software be loaded onto that workstation, a USB-direct-attached scanner really becomes essentially tethered to a single workstation. (And for the Scan Snap) Adobe Acrobat gets activated to *that* workstation, and over-writes any existing acrobat installation -- it overwrote my Acrobat Professional with the less expensive, less powerful Acrobat Standard. The paper feed on the Kodak is also much better, bigger, heavier, and more serviceable. Jams are such a annoyance that they justify a large part of the price difference - sheet feeding on the Scan Snap is very good; sheet feeding on the Kodak is really great.MACINTOSH: If you have more than one user, or need scans for both Mac and PC, then getting your scan output as a PDF file on a network drive and/or USB key means that scans can very quickly get used by any computer.COST: The cost of a network scanner is 5 times the cost of a USB attached scanner. If you are a one-person operation or office, then the business case is harder to make. On the other hand, if what ends up happening is that you dedicate a workstation to the scanner anyhow, the Kodak makes huge sense. It a refined, flexible, and secure approach to a shared scanning.

I have owned this scanner for several years. I have scanned literally thousands of pictures and clippings for clients. Using this scanner makes my work so much faster and easier that it isnt funny! Simply feed up to 15 pics at a time in its hopper and let it go. Many customizable features allow you to set time outs for empty picture hopper, etc. One amazing feature is that it will auto straighten your pics even if they go in crooked. Post picture correction (rotation and deletion)after scanning is easy with their software. All in all, this scanner is worth every penny I paid for it and has paid for itself in fast picture scanning and turnaround. The only thing that I will caution you about is that the rollers will get dirty from the paper dust and dust on the pictures, so every so often you need to tear it down (very easy to pull out the parts) and clean them with a damp cloth. The plastic rollers will also get a build up on them and will need to be cleaned off for proper non jamming operation. You wont go wrong with this scanner!

I acquired two of these scanners in order to replace several Kodak i40 scanners when I upgraded to Windows 7 64 bit. I had been very happy with the i40's and looked forward to this next generation. Although the i40's were great, these a simply miles ahead of them, and the other similar Fujitsu scanners I had been using. In fact, the literature from Kodak does not do them justice. They have changed the way my law practice works. The Kodak i1220's are so fast and simple to use that we now immediately scan and save everything. Instead of copying and mailing copies of correspondence to clients to keep them informed, we simply email a scan pdf to them, saving significant time and postage in the process. When a client calls I no longer have to go to the files and retrieve the documents in order to review them, but just simply call up the scan on the network. Finally, when my anti-virus program caused a problem on the installation of one of the machines, Kodak tech support was easily reachable and didn't quit until everything was working perfectly. These scanners, as well as Kodak support, could not be better.

First off this scanner does not make the best scan quality of the flatbed scanners I have and do currently use. However I cannot jam an inch thick pile of different sized photos into any other document feeder hand have the scanner (nearly without fail) feed and scan every picture perfectly.It automatically corrects for skew, so I rarely bother with making sure the guides are at the right width anymore.The base software does exactly what it needs to do. Makes incremental filenames out of each pic scanned as it goes through. Currently the scanner takes less than a half a second a pic so it's pretty quick...My only peeves...No mac drivers! I had to start up an old Windows box just to run the scanner.Have plenty of alcohol pads and roller cleaner pads ready (I paid for the suggested Kodak brand and they work). Your old pics will drop goop all over the scanner glass. It will need to be cleaned every few hundred pics.I bought mine used and the underside of the scanning glass was hazy and filthy. I had to disassemble the entire scanner just to get to the glass to clean it. Not very easy...Will not feed Polaroids or the old cardboard thickness prints (I cannot really blame it, but it won't do it)...Other than that this is a very solid product with an excellent document feeder that will handle photos with no problem.

This unit is a fast operator, and with the ability to scan once and do any combination of thumb drive storage, local USB hard drive storage, network folder storage, email, fax, print, and FTP, what's not to like? The OCR logic is fantastic, enabling us to create text-searchable PDFs. Scanning duplex is a breeze, since there are separate scanning elements for each page. This thing flies, especially in black & white mode. It ate up several 15-20 page dual-sided documents in OCR mode without complaining. However, a 3 page color document did slow the unit down in OCR mode, a memory issue in all likelihood.That said, there are some noteworthy limitations to this unit:* Setup must be done on a PC running Windows; I believe you would be screwed if you tried to set this unit up on a Mac-only network. Hope I'm wrong about that but I don't think so.* Setting up the SMTP portion of the tool was problematic. I gave up on using our Exchange server and created a dedicated Gmail account to send emails through, but it took me probably 90 minutes of experimenting with different settings to get it to work. It should not have been that difficult.* Fax and FTP setup were easy, but I could not get the unit to recognize two HP color LaserJets that were connected directly to the network. Kodak advises me that to properly configure a printer you have to run the administrative tool on a Windows client PC, not a server. Not sure why that is and I haven't had the time to kick someone off their client PC to try it. So to date, no Scan to Print for us.* Inexplicably, you can't control color settings beyond simple scan resolution. Color scans are far too saturated, with lots of blues and artifacts coming in from the other side of the page. This could be easily managed using standard scanner settings, but this unit is so easy to use that you can't control most common scanner settings. What's up with that, Kodak?* it's great that this unit can save to network folders, but it can't browse directory structures. You have to actually type in the full pathname of the network folder. You can set these up in the administrator utility so you don't have to type them on the fly, but that's an obvious limitation and one that doesn't seem to make sense given that the unit appears to be running an embedded version of Windows. This begs for a firmware update, Kodak.We bought this unit to make archiving documents fast and easy. Mission accomplished, but it's no super scanner and expect some headaches getting this thing set up properly.

i gave this scanner 4/5 stars because i bought it used and didn't get the software it should include in the original packaging.the scanner is very fast (up to 45ppm on A4*grayscale) it have all the basic function for handling the image (autocrop,auto-deskew,auto-rotate)it has pre-defined configurations (which is like speed dial for many format scan)the scanner itself is pretty small and handy.very good product (for me it could been better if i had the software along with it)

My department has four of these scanners and they have performed adequately over the past two and a half years. The Kodak i260 scanner is a decent machine for low production use. However, contrary to Kodak's claim you should not expect to process more than 2,000 pages per day. While it can technically handle more than that, it comes at the cost of higher maintenance and a shorter product life. The other specifications for the scanner are misleading as well. The rating of 67ppm is purely theoretical. My department has never received more than 50ppm, and our average is closer to 20ppm. The reason is simple, in the real world paper is not perfect. Paper has folds, wrinkles and tears that drastically slow the process time. An important note: the feeder will not handle small documents like checks and receipts. You must use the flatbed attachment for these types of documents. Every i260 scanner I have worked with has both USB and Firewire. My department was sold on the idea that we should go with USB due to the lower implementation cost. This was the wrong thing to do. The bandwidth of the USB interface is to narrow for full time scanning. Our production could not pass 1,000 pages a day with a USB interface. USB was only part of that problem. My department also made the mistake of opting out of the extended RAM. The i260 only comes with a paltry 64MB of RAM, but it can be upgraded to 256MB. 64MB is great for desktop office scanners but it is inexcusable in a production level machine. The wise will not waste their time with Kodak's included software. The truth is that any scanner is only as good as the software that makes use of the scanner. Spend the time and money to get production level software. The price to performance ratio is outrageous. You can purchase an HP Scanjet N8420 for $1,199.00 and it will beat the performance of Kodak scanners in most areas and it will not require the purchase of annual maintenance. (State/local government annual rates are around $1,000.00) Note: I am not recommending the N8420 over the i260. I am simply pointing out the vast price/performance difference. My final advice is this: If you need entry level production scanning and you have or will have production level scanning software, then this is an OK machine to buy if your production levels will exceed 1,000 pages a day.If your production levels are below 1,000 pages a day then I recommend that you look at HP's scanners.

This machine have to be the worst I ever have to support and recommend. Kodak's older model, the one 100s, is a true work horse, where the 500s is a constant break and place. It have a high failure rate lasting only 2 months and have to replace it 3 times. Kodak's warranty is only 3 months and their service really suck as, especially from their Warranty Service Department. Margret is a stiff and bad matter lady that does not listen to customer complain and does not take action to correct the problem. For a $2500 machine, the Kodak ScanStation 500 is fail and unreliable by design.The first machine, my company got, would eat papers and then jam. The second machine works fine for two months and then die. It would boot up at the bios screen and froze there (looks like a hard drive failure). Third one is on its way, but looking to return it after we find a replacement.Steer away from this product if you do not want to go through with the hassle of a replacement units.

I've been using this scanner for a year. It was purchased for the sole purpose of scanning photos. Like a previous reviewer we have encountered the "red, blue, green" vertical lines. We too were told from Kodak support it was dust. Then we were told it was static electricity causing the dust to stay. We've had a little success using anti-static spray to clean the glass, we've also used a humidifier in the winter months when the heat was running. It is very annoying and does often require pictures to be re-scanned. If Kodak could figure out to eliminate this scanner would be a solid 5-stars.

BUYER BEWARE (Be very aware of what you are getting yourself into)This machine is great if your favorite color happens to be red, blue or green. Just about every photo you run through this machine will create an un-useable image with one or more lines of red, blue or green . What causes this? DUST. Even the finest, nearly invisible speck on the glass imaging surface will cause the lines. Ok, "so I'll just wipe it off", you say. Well you better get used to it, because that is what you will be doing a lot of.Sadly it doesn't stop there. I have put up with wiping the outer surface of the glass every few scans. To make matters worse, dust finds its way to the under-side of the glass which cannot be cleaned. At that point, you are completely out of luck. You can remove the glass to clean it, but you'd only be introducing more dust into an otherwise sealed environment. The two air purifiers I purchased, in an attempt to minimize the dust, didn't help.Kodak Customer Service: The customer service was prompt to quickly answer the phone. They were polite and patiently listened as I explained my problem. What they couldn't answer was how to make the lines on the images go away. Their answer to solve the problem is to continuously send me new machines.I received three new scanners under warranty. The third scanner was worse than the first, due to pre-existing dust on the under-side of the glass. After many hours on the phone with customer service, I finally got to talk to a higher-up technical person. He enlightened me on what is causing the problem (the dust) and provided a way to minimize the problem, which nowhere near eliminated the problem. The five different customer support reps all acknowledged this is an ongoing problem with all i1200, i1300, and i1400 series scanners. I was told that Kodak is working on the software fix, however it is not expected to eliminate the problem completely.Through my online research, I found that this seems to be an inherent problem with other ADF scanners.I really wanted to like this machine. After scanning a few thousand photos and having to delete and redo 25% or more of the images, I cannot in good conscious recommend the Kodak i1220 scanner.

I really disagree with the other review on this scanner. I was previously using a Cannon 9950 to scan in my photos and although the quality was fine, it was a very slow process. I bought this scanner as a close friend had scanned 15 THOUSAND photos with this device and with no issues. My friend did this at a fee and the scanner paid for itself on a weekend.I have converted all of my photographs to digital as this device seamlessly integrates into Photoshop (not included) as well as just about any other application. I have not seen any of the quality issues, in fact the scans are better than the Cannon.Furthermore I have converted: all of my MBA materials, every meaningful receipt, record, tax document etc into a searchable pdf. I have disposed of more clutter than you could ever imagine.I love this thing. It was bought to simply convert photographs but has honestly become the most used device in my home. It is rock solid (mostly metal) and performs flawlessly.

I've been stalling getting a dedicated scanner for my business, but this unit is terrific. There is a lot of options to select from, but once I got it working, I've been tweaking it and finding new uses all the time. I'm amazed how fast it swallows input, yesterday it grabbed 30 pages just like nothing. It arrived defective, it would not feed, but Kodak overnited me a replacement which was flawless.

I purchased this unit with the sole purpose of scanning about fifteen thousand old photographs. I was worried that the slick photos wouldn't feed properly but it worked flawlessly.I started with a couple thousand 4x6 photos from the 90s, and this machine kept sucking them in while I watched TV. Next, I scanned odd sizes of old snapshots, school, and holiday cards. Last, I loaned the machine to my 70 yr-old aunt and she scanned some seriously old family photos with no problems.The sizes of photos can be changed on the fly without changing any settings, because the software can see where to crop. The biggest photos I scanned were 8x10 and the smallest were little wallet school photos. By pressing a button on the side, the unit opens up and you can see the scanning light to blow off with canned air every once and a while.Overall, 5 stars for painless preservation of old photos.

We purchased this scanner as a replacement to an older model that was SCSI connected. We already had software in place for the paper capture/character recognition so that was not really considered in deciding on the purchase. We have since found this scanner to perform the functions perfectly. I set some of the scan preferences for our users and they simply select an option for the type of document they want in the result (PDF, Text etc) and watch in amazement at how fast this thing performs the job. In fact we are considering a second scanner to replace another older model.Overall we are very satisfied with our purchase.

Not all of the software required to use this scanner effectivly came in the box. I was having problems using it until I found the sheet that told me to how to download the software for the scanner. I will be using it to scan over 300,000 3 x 5 index card of birth and death information for our Genealogy society. If my budget would have allowed it I would have gotten the I1310 so I could scan both side of a page at one time.

This scanner is great! Highly recommended. Fills whole between under $1000 scanners and the expensive workgroup scanners. Easy setup. You almost have to catch the paper, it works so fast. Only downside is the plastic rank for catching the outgoing paper could be better. A minor thing.

сканер затянет на самом деле все безропотно, кроме прошивочные скобы и скрепки. Бумажные разделение не является надежным, пока вы положили слишком много документов в шахту, хотя на мой взгляд не так хорошо, как в предыдущей модели. Из бумаги можно ловить только очень неровно вытащить.
сканирование запускается очень быстро, но примерно после 10 страницы, программное обеспечение больше не может угнаться за производит и длительного ожидания. Там быстрее ПК и сети Gigabit ничего не помогает.

Надо только сканер в сети, а не через USB на ПК, ограничивают функциональные возможности устройства Запуска сканирования для тех пользователей, начавший программного обеспечения на ПК. Это непрактично, можно запустить Сканирование на устройстве, как прямое подключение тоже возможно.
Безопасно цена для устройства такого класса все еще слабый, но вопиющие недостатки системы управления позволяют только 3 звезды.

у меня уже есть сканер с принтером 4-в-1, но это было немного болезненно (нет двусторонней печати, качество среднее, медленное и сканера при отсутствия чернил в одном из картриджей !!!). Не легко сканировать заметки моего сына, например.
Я сканер Kodak i2420. Доставка без хлопот (16 дней раньше, чем объявлено).
сканер хорошо упакованы. Я просто немного удивлен, аспект "пластиковые" сканера ... но они все так.
следует обратить внимание, чтобы установить CD-rom и драйверы, прежде чем использовать сканер в первый раз.
кроме этого, это действительно "plug-and-play".
Я пытаюсь со страницы двухсторонней цветной. Скорости огромные (сканирование страницы для двусторонней печати за 1 секунду) и качество на встречу.
После сканирования, я просто должен вернуться домой, чтобы мое имя pdf-файла и мой файл после сохранения открывается на моем компьютере (Windows 10). Woaw.
Я также использовать его, чтобы сделать резервную копию паспорта в формате А6. Что счастье. Маленький, не заметно, он занимает очень мало места на рабочем столе, потому что он "втягивает", когда закрывает.
Если вы ищите сканер для быстрого и точного для офиса, не искать больше !
