Everyone needs to know that, as another reviewer mentioned, Avery special papers DO NOT work with this printer. You simply CANNOT use even business card-type papers regardless of the software you're using.The HP software is a major problem, it essentially does not work. I've tried it on several PCs and laptops, and the scanner software only works if you use another (3rd-party) software program. It will not start on its own. It continues to "update" the software but never addresses the real problems, and installation takes forever.

short story - great unit for the price. Great printing and scanning and acceptable copying.long story - I originally bought this unit on the spur of the moment due to a great deal. It's an HP so I thought it would be great based upon past experience. I got back home, read the other reviewers, and second-guessed my decision. I would have taken it back, unopen, but my college-bound daughter was very excited about the scanning and copying. I'm a long term IT Professional so I decided to give it a try, very hesitantly, on her brand new PC.Setup was not difficult at all. Clear instructions were included although it clearly says NOT to connect to your computer until you have the software fully loaded. Not sure what happens if you don't read! I did think the sofware installation took quite a while on a brand new, high-end PC, but it didn't give me any issues.Immediately, my daugher began copying, scanning, editing, and printing. The printing is great quality and would say the same for the scanning. The included sofware allowed her immediately to do editing. Again, she quickly made her favorite picture the background on her PC. I did notice that the cover to the copier has a little give, but I DID only pay $100 for it. Also, it cuts off a small portion of copies, but in my test, it was part of the very bottom URL line of an internet prinout . . . hardly a tragedy. I won't be using this for professional quality copies anyway. The copies were a remarkable likeness of exactly what I copied . . . no graying out occurred.So, we are quite happy so far. HP may have corrected it's original issues so keep this in mind. I am wondering how long the print cartriges will last. They are somewhat smaller than my HP Photo printer, but not a large concern at this point. I have not yet priced the replacements.Short advice is this is a good all-around-device for the price.

Many people have given their detailed reviews (pros and cons) of this all-in-one printer. So I'm not going to elaborate on my feedback. I got mine at the after-rebate price of $59.99 (a great deal), and for the price it's a very functional, decent all-in-one printer that fulfills my wife's needs--a compact-size machine with a single button to copy & print without ever turning on her iBook. Some consideration for a potential buyer to have is its rather fast consumption of ink--the black ink ran out after printing out about 150 pages of a document--and its little pricey Blk and Multicolor ink. (Unfortunately third party generic or remanufactured ink cartriges for this printer are not widely available; so I ended up buying the HP OEM ink, and buying a few of them cost me more than I had paid for the printer. Maybe that's HP's game plan.) If you're a power user and are thinking of using this printer as your only or primary printer, you may be better off purchasing a printer alone or another all-in-one printer that uses cheapter ink. Otherwise, I'm satisfied, and so is my wife.

I just bought a second one for my parent in laws. It is great for personal use. Exceptional quality, photo quality print on kodak photo paper, hey if noone even noticed it was printed. The copy feature is excellent and saves trips elsewhere. I homeschool my children so the copy feature is definitely an exceptional tool.It prints really fast and has built in memory so it isn't taxing your system to print (unlike lexmark in particular). The scanner works great, I've scanned documents, pictures, worksheets, and more. The ability to also do a color copy is really nice. While I've only used it a couple times its still nice to know its there.Setup is a breeze, the only glitch I had to do is delete the printer from device manager then install the software.Aligning is a snap, it prints the alignment sheets you put it on the scanner and it aligns itself.There isn't a more simple printer. Lexmark is cheaper but it doesn't have the memory buffer, is a system resource hog, andtakes forever to print color (despite claims).I've never seen a canon that worked for any real length of time.Epson is okay but can't hold a candle to this plus constantly is running into bugs.Both HP and Lexmark make sturdy reliable printers and I've used both have been pleased. Lexmark's downfall is its time on printing and system resource usage. So this is your best bet forthis price range.I've been happy and you will be as well.

Both are great units. 1510 has an upgraded scan resolution, BUT the ink cartridge volumes are larger in the 1315 (twice ±!). Check it out.Software works great, including the OCR.I switched from Epson CX6600 (also a great all-in-one) as the ink nozzles are replaced with a new cartridge in the HP, whereas the Epson nozzles are built in to the print head, and when they become clogged it is a $$$ shop repair.Mac OSX 10.4.2

This is a pretty good printer. My favorite thing about it is that it is very convientent. It is a copier, scanner, and printer all in one.The printing jobs on it are pretty fast, though I wish the copier was a bit faster (especially color, took about 2 minutes). Though, overall, I was impressed with the print speed. Only took seconds for a full black text page.The printer did not come with a USB cable, which had me pay an extra $20 for it. Though, that was a 2.1 speed USB, so it was supposed to be expensive.Not many paper jams, though there were one or two times the paper had to catch itself, though the printer was good at that.mponamoabI have used the scanner, which is handy-dandy, but I do have a digital camera (DSC-P73), so I rarely used this future. Though, at the spur of the moment...The price for this was very good for this. I only paid $100 for it, which was cool.Overall, I highly recommend this printer. It was a great deal.

The best feature of this printer is the copying. You can make up to 10 copies, one page at a time, either black and white or color. Given the price, its a nice little addition to the home office. The copies are about 95 percent (subjective) quality of the original.As far as scanning goes, it's a pretty good scanner. The HP software is fairly intuitive to use and not overburdened by too much functionality.The print quality is very good, however I've seen faster and very slightly better print quality in dedicated ink-jet printers within this price range. I guess that's a small compromise considering the unit copies and scans as well.The printer seems to go through ink somewhat quickly, so make sure you pick draft resolution for day to day printing, which looks pretty good anyway. Ink cartridge replacements are cheaper than some other vendors relatively speaking. There are double capacity cartridges that can be bought more economically in packages of two.As far as photos go, the printer is pretty good but I would recommend a dedicated photo printer or use snapfish.com instead for photo printing.This unit does not fax. I have a separate fax unit that somebody gave me, so no problem. My computer isn't near a phone line anyway.The printer is slightly noisy and jiggly in its day to day operation. All told, this unit comes highly recommended at doing the basics well, at a very low price point.

I just got my HP 1315 this week and finally had the time to set it up. With the installation process, I suggest that it will be more simple if you just follow the instruction that came from the box. The setup process was really long which got me kind of anxious, but at least it went smoothly.What I like about the printer is the printer, scanner, and copier function as it is a very convenient little unit. The size is compact and using it is very simple once you have it all hooked up. The print quality of the scanned picture is impressive. The copying function is good in that you can choose to make either color or black. The only thing I am slightly disappointed is that that when I print a document directly from my computer, the print quality is not too good, but with a multi-functional unit, there are some compromises.Overall, I think it's a good printer for it's price range. I especially like the fact that the unit can copy without being connected to the computer. However, I also forsee a lot of ink cartridge money which shall be spent in the future.

If your computer is 3 years old or older, stay away from this printer. In my 26 years of installing hardware and software, I have never experienced a more frustrating ordeal. I have invested approximately 8-10 hours in attempting to get this unit to work, but to no avail. The scan function is DOA. I spent over an hour on the phone with HP tech support (outsourced to India--pronunciation hell--nothing against Indians, the accent just added to the frustrating ordeal). I uninstalled and reinstalled at least six times, went into msconfig and turned off all extraneous boot items, tried four different USB cables and three different hubs--and no hub at all, a direct connect to the computer. Failure. Apparently there is an invisible, undiscoverable conflict with this unit and my older hardware. I give up!I am returning this unit. I will never, ever in my life even for one half second consider another HP product. They've already robbed me of enough time, and their tech support is sketchy.

This is an ideal unit for people needing a printer/scanner/copier all-in-one.While the printing isn't exactly photo-quality (what do you expect at this pricepoint or for a unit that does so many other things) it is more than acceptable. I use the printer for maps, directions, Word documents, etc. and it has suited my needs extremely well.The scanner is better than I had expected which is wonderful. It scans both photos and documents extremely well and quickly.The copier is also fairly fast and efficient and suits my needs wonderfully.I've had the ink cartridges for nearly 4 months and haven't had to change them yet. While the cartridge replacements are pricey you won't have to change them too often which makes it affordable.

I like this little printer, but be warned that it has a problem that tech support doesn't know how to fix and HP now admits "there is no permanent solution at this time" as "the feed rollers are slipping on the surface of the label, causing the page to load incorrectly" (...). The workarounds that they offer do not always work, so you will waste lots of labels, ink and time trying to get the job done. The only solution I've found, which works most of the time, is to cut off the margin above the first row of labels so that it starts printing on the label instead of above it.

I liked being able to replace a printer and scanner with a single machine, and it prints, scans, and copies really well. Color copies are a bit "off color" but do the trick for my purposes. Wouldn't recommend for a high-volume use, such as home office/business. Great looking, doesn't take up much space. Easy to use. I haven't yet used it to print any photos.I'd buy it again!

I adviced my parents to get this printer, since they were in need of an all-in-one solution to their printing, scanning and copying needs. A little under $100 seemed like a reasonable price to pay for a unit that would do all three. And all was nice and beautiful until the CD that the printer came with wouldn't work, so I decided to download and install the software from the HP site, which was going to take forever, because it was over 340MB in size... I ended up downloading it at work (over a fast connection) and burning a CD with it, and finally setting it up, after three attempts.Being a technically-inclined person, I found this unit to be all but user friendly. I cannot imagine the frustration of someone with little patience or limited computer knowledge. If that sounds like you, pass on this one. You will remember me if you don't. Even though it's a nice printer/copier/scanner after it's set up, honestly I think it's not worth the effort it took to set up.

The printer is good overall, but I didn't know that it was incompatible for wireless printing. My 5 year old HP inkjet was compatible to Netgear's print server, so I figured a new printer would be compatible, but it turns out the HP PSC printers are not network capable. If being able to wirelessly print is important to you, pick another printer.

Simply , THE BEST , all in one , for all money categories.I dont understand , why waisting , more money , on some expencive models, when this baby, works FABULOUS !!I have had many printers ets.. through years, but this is stuning.BEWARE only that this price is only STARTING PRICE. Much more you have to spend in next days , and weeks , for papers,and cartridges, becouse , you wont to get quit , with printing , copying , scaning , when you see, this photos.

Update: I went back and bought this printer again. I think it's the best all in one you can get for the price. It still cuts of the sides of whatever I scan if it's placed in a corner, but I can place it in the middle because the scanner area is not sloped(so it wont slide). I bought this for school and I think it's been pretty good once it was installed. Maybe a keeper, but I have a year long guarantee.I bought this printer from COSTCO for $99. It took a very long time to install. The printing quality is excellent compared to a Lexmark that I just bought. However, I tried to make a copy of something and it doesn't matter where you place the document--the sides of the picture will be cut off! I didn't try placing it in the center though. I just got angry and took the thing back. It also doesn't have faxing capabilities which I don't think is necessary, but it would have been nice. I bought a Lexmark x1155 for $60, and it also cut of the sides of my document and the quality of the picture is horrible compared to the HP. I'll be taking that one back tomorrow. I'm just looking for a decent all in one!! Perhaps I'll go get the HP 1210 and I hope that it will work better.

We totally endorse Alan G. Kirk's review. No excuse for this sad excuse for usability. Took it back. We believe the technical support "person" is an avatar running the Eliza program. The only reason for 2 stars rather than 1 is that the printer works. Other alleged functionality is not really there.

It scans fine (tho slowly) and makes lovely copies. The print quality is great. However, it has a huge problem making labels. They do not align properly most of the time. A sheet of regular paper is OK so it doesn't seem to be a software problem; maybe it has trouble grabbing the paper. Of the three times I've done labels with it, I got them after several attempts the first time, it worked the second time, and this third time it would not align in five attempts. This included attempts with and without regular paper and/or extra label sheets under the label sheets that I was trying to print.Office Depot had a hard time finding print cartridges for it

I love my new HP, it was so easy to install!!! Having a scanner,printer, and copier all in one is just so great! The copier is so handy with my grand children always needing copies! I strongly recommend this product. Will always buy HP products in the future!!!

You think by now plug and play would mean there wasnt a need to contact tecnical support repeatedly in an effort to get a device to work-especially when you try to run it on windows xp. But i guess hp figures its some of its customers need to be software engineers to get there products to work or spend hours with technical support and get nowhere.This product makes me believe hp engineers dont know what thyre doing

I've had luck with HP printers in the past. This one prints and scans ok for the low price BUT if you're a Mac user, beware. I use OS X, and the printer worked, but when I tried to print from a Classic app (Photoshop 6) I got an error message. When I contacted HP support I was told that they don't support Classic and that I would have to reboot and print from OS 9 if the app wasn't OS X native. A real pain, as I use Photoshop a lot but have no real need for the upgrades. I think this information should be on the box, but it wasn't. Instead the copy says it is OS X compatible. Classic is part of OS X, and there are a lot of Classic apps still out there.

My experience with this unit is very different from the previous posters. I bought this nodel because I couldn't find the cheaper 1210 model in stock, and I'm glad I did, (...). It worked flawlessly right out of the box with my Mac PowerBook computer, and I'm very satisfied with the print and copy quality. Even photos look great on plain paper (I haven't tried printing on photo paper yet). It prints somewhat faster than the 1210 model but is otherwise quite similar. The compact size is a real plus, especially when using it with a laptop, as moving it around is very easy. I rate it at 5 stars, not because it's the best printer/copier/scanner out there, but because its combination of reasonable quality, ease of use, compact size, and affordable price hit the "sweet spot" for me.

Do not buy it, it simply do not work, the problem?? The drivers.go for an epson or lexmark or whatever. Don't waste your time and money.I know that the people from HP will not recognize it, but they know I am telling you the truth.It is a shame, how a company that says they are the best, can make a printer with the lower quality control. Again it is a shame.

Originally, I purchased prints of my digital pics through Kodak.com. After I paid $99 for this printer, I decided to give it a shot with the free photo paper that came with it. My (4x6)prints look better than if I had taken them with a traditional 35mm camera and had the film developed.
