After I installed my HP PSC 1315 about one year ago, I could not run my Jasc software programs. I could not use my Epson Stylus C60 as an alternative printer, although it remained installed with my computer. The HP PSC 1315 photo sharing progrm (Snapfish) required RECIPIENTS of photos to log in (even my daughter refused). Yesterday was the end, as the HP PSC 1315's malfunctioning (after one year) caused me to spend hours of my time trying to fix it by uninstalling and reinstalling the software. It would not reinstall successfully, so I uninstalled and am junking the machine. Until recently, the print quality was pretty good, but the quality has been going downhill recently. After not using my Epson Stylus C60 (about 5 years old) for a year (as the 1315 wouldn't allow it), I tried it today and, although it needed new ink cartridges, it worked perfectly. So, I'm purchasing an Epson all-in-one. I will never purchase an HP printer again - the 1315 has frightened me off.

I bought this refurbished off a respectable dealer off of eBay,but I didn't realize that his guarantee was only for 7 days until it was too late. The USB port on the printer was dead on arrival, and I could not establish a connection to my computer. It was about 1 month after receiving the item that I attempted to install this on my computer, so I could not return this to the eBay dealer. Tried 2 different USB cables, 2 PC's and multiple USB ports, but still no connection. I'm sure this is a great printer for light to medium usuage, but my advice is to buy one of these new.

This all-in-one has done ordinary resume and cover letters well for me and the scanner is fine (see the other reviews for those details).I have one warning...This is NOT the printer for creative projects.For instance, I decided to make up my own humorous Chance and Community Chest cards for Monopoly. I have some Avery business card paper (heavy guage and perforated for separation into 10 business cards per sheet).When I went to print them, PAPER JAAAAAAAAAAM! I tried three times to get the sheets to feed and this printer just can't do it. I went to the Help area of the included software and, there, in plain English, HP "does not recommend" using perforated sheets. And there are other types of paper it "does not recommend".I now want to make a 50's music CD for Mom's birthday with a custom label and insert. I'm not even going to try.So much for making my humorous T-shirts with the iron on sheets. So much for actual business cards. Greeting cards? Who knows? Should I bother with any such project? I have a printer that probably can't handle the paper, so what's the point? It really puts the kabash on the fun stuff.This may be the case with all of these all-in-one's and printers that feed in from the front and out through the front. All I know is this printer doesn't handle it at all.I assume a top feeding printer (like my old Epson which did business cards with no problems) is the way to go. If I can find the reciept and they'll take it back, this one's getting returned. It may be a great printer for business documents, but if you want to do anything else, it's probably "not recommended" and, in fact, may prove impossible.MAJOR disappointment.It would have been nice if it said that on the box: "Does not accept perforated paper or probably anything you'd use for those special, fun projects." But, of course, if they did that, you might not buy it!So, now you know. If these are issues for you, a front loading all-in-one (at least this all-in-one) may not be the right machine.

I have not one, two, but three of these pieces of junk and have finally learned my lesson. The first one was DOA out of the box. The second one developed a USB connection problem within one month. And now the third one flashes continuously "check cartridges" and I have put brand new ones in there. It won't even scan or copy when it thinks you have printing issues. You're just locked up with a bunch of flashing lights. Don't waste your time with this thing. I'm definitely going to try a canon next.

Every time I go to print something this machine makes it an adventure. Right now the printer will only print an entire document rather than select pages from it. The error light comes on for no reason. This is the tip of the iceberg...needless to say I'm shopping around for a new printer.

Anyone giving this printer a good review has obviously not used it for a long period of time.It worked like a dream for about...7 months.Then, it randomly stopped working and paper jammed to high hell.And these are not easy to remedy paper jams. They are - you follow the instructions on how to clear them, and they don't go away...every single paper after the initial jam will never print normally again.This horrible printer will just grab pieces of paper (even when it's not printing) and just freeze.PLEASE, before you buy this, take a look at the negative reviews being listed in here. They are RIGHT!It paper jams, wastes printer cartridges (I buy new ones and the quality is still horrid), stalls.You might think you're getting such an amazing deal when you buy this heap of garbage, but you will pay for it in the long run, when you have to buy a new printer.I bought this with the idea I was saving money, and getting a rebate deal. I mailed mine out perfectly, and of course never got anything in return.Don't waste your money on this; you'll pay for it with headaches, anger and more money later down the line.You may think I'm just bitter, and heck yes, that is true, but I am also making certain that people who feel they could use this to BEWARE. It is a horrid, horrid printer.

I purchased this HP all-in-one over a year ago. The first 6 months were great then it all went down hill. To save a long story this printer has broke 6 times and I have fixed it all six times. Then the software stopped working and won't scan or copy...why have an all-in-one?? Then it started printing crooked and yes I aligned the cartridge. A friend of mine has this same one. He said the same thing first 6 months or so are fine then....Get a Brother! Very realiable!!

I tried this printer with an iMac G5 as well as a Dell laptop running XP professional. HP claimed Mac compatibility, but in reality you only get print functions - no scanner support - when locally attached via USB. And while it will work fine (print only) on an AirPort Express network from the Mac, there is no Windows XP support so I can't print wirelessly from my laptop. This is my third and last HP purchase. They really shouldn't be allowed to write driver software.

I'm a college student and the HP PSC 1315's cheap price, all-in-one functionality, and compact size were all pluses. That is, if the printer wasn't such a piece of crap.First off, it doesn't come with a USB cable. What's the point in a printer if you can't hook it up to a computer? Luckily, you can buy a generic brand cable for much less than the kind that HP sells and it works just as well.Next, it takes an incredibly long time to install the drivers and software-even with fast and new computers. The CD comes with has a bunch of bulk software that you'll never use. This isn't that big of a deal, but it can be frustrating when you're first installing it.Thirdly, it simply can't print! Even after aligning the cartridges it still prints blurry and "double-vision-like." Not only that, but if it prints correctly it'll give the error message: "The print cartridge has stalled." What does that mean!?And lastly, it will paper jam after every paper is prints! You have to pull the paper out forcibly and then reset the printer all over again, only for it to jam AGAIN! Also, it prints very slowly-even though all I print out are research papers and source code!

I just bought the HP PSC 1315 a few days ago and gotit today. I was very excited to own this printerseeing that the last one that I bought was four yearsago and since then, I had lost the cables to it (bothelectrical and the parallel port). I figured $100 fora copier, scanner, and printer was a great deal(versus $50 for new cables). So I opened the box,pulled out the newer, sleaker, more compact model andall its contents: two kinds of ink, electrical cable,software, instructions, and the expensive printerpaper. I searched around for the USB cable that Ineeded to hook this beautiful looking machinery to mycomputer. But alas- there was no USB cable. I quicklywent back to all the documents to see the contents ofwhat was shipped to me. I checked the box, and sureenough, at the bottom of the list, in small, boldfonts were the words: USB cable not included. Thenbeneath that, in small, bold font were the words,Optional Accessories: USB cable, followed by the modelnumber. I was thinking- why the heck did they send methis beautiful printer and no cable??? And moreimportantly how is a USB cable (or any cable thatconnects the computer to the printer) optional butexpensive printer paper that came with the printer,not? I went online to see how to go about purchasingthis cable and found that it costs me an extra $20plus tax and shipping. I would've rather paid an extra$20 to get the cable instead of having to wait furtherfor it to come. After waiting anxiously for my printerin order to print stuff from my computer (which Iassume most people do with their printers), I now sitstaring at my new printer and have to wait anotherthree days for my USB cable. Why the heck did they notinclude this cable with the printer?? And moreimportantly, why didn't the ad for this printer nottell me that the cable wasn't included?? If peopledon't use the cable, they can always toss it. I'dexpect more people need it then don't. Once I get thecable, I'll update this review with how well theprinter works but for now i'm really disappointed.

Pros: A very nice output both in black, and in color. Great high-res scans. Prints very nice color photos too. Pretty fast, high quality copying done by pressing one button only (your great grandmother can do it :>) Had it for six months and no, it doesn't look like it's going to fall apart.Cons: Bought it for my 64-bit computer only to find out that no 64-bit drivers are available for it. HP keeps promissing those drivers but promises are cheap.... The message on their web site says: "The driver will be available before the end of the year". But it was saying the same thing last year also. Well, I am using it now with my old 32-bit system and waiting for that magical "before the end of the year time" some time in the future.

The primary concerns for a printer are met, both color and black and white, and it hardly ever jams. That's what's important.Copying is easy and quick, so that's a great bonus.However, for the life of me I can't get it to scan. Also, this thing runs through ink like "it ain't no thing." One thing it does to increase this ink-problem is start "conserving" ink early on. That means it prints as if it's running out of ink (read: unreadable and unprofessional-looking) for the longest time before the ink actually even gets that close to running out. The money you save on the printer will be gone pretty quickly on new ink cartridges, I can promise you that.Still, it's better running out of ink than jamming all the time, and for what I need it for it works most of the time. The few times I've had problems with it I couldn't fix myself I could get customer service live right off of the HP website, so it has some good customer service support.--PolarisDiB

Totally agree - that this appears to be an awesome deal. I as well paid about $100 for it. It instantly worked with my iBook. Other than being loud and slow - it printed, copied and scanned very well. After about 8 months of use - it started acting up with paper jams now and then. After a year - it jams up each time i use it. I have to print 1 page at a time and then restart as it jams each page.Probably worth spending another $100 to avoid this disposable printer. You get what you pay for i guess.

You are screwed. I have had this printer for 14 monthsand now it is dead. I replaced a printer cartridge and thengot an error that the cartridge wasn't installed right.When I reopened it, the cartridge had fallen out and therewere springs and a plastic piece lying on the bottom with itand I have no idea where they came from. Needless to say it doesn't work. Now I am not a mechanical genius but I still think that if one installs a printer cartridge incorrectly it shouldn't cause the whole printer to fall apart. I can't afford $100 a year for a printer. Stay away from this one.

I bought this printer at Wal-Mart last week. I hadn't read the reviews here on it because I had planned to buy a Canon MP390 which WM didn't have.. Had I read the reviews I probably wouldn't have considered this make and model. That may have been a shame because the 1315V has worked well for me so far.Thanks to Bonz' advice below I very carefully followed the 15 or 16 steps given on the set up sheet IN ORDER. Then installed the software as instructed. Took a long time loading but it worked for me.My pro's are: Copy and scan produce excellent results. Print likewise. Photo copy seems adequate altho this is first really photo capable printer I've had. I suspect upscale machines or purpose dedicated machines would do better. I'm still working on sizing the photo copies (being 68 years old this doesn't come easy).My con's are: All mouse activated software responses seem very slow tho my computer is probably middle of the road fast. Haven't found a way (if there is one) to turn printer on from context menu, or turn it off anyway but manually. My Lexmark did. Doesn't seem to show the ongoing count as it copies. (Lexmark had that too). Doesn't scan to PDF format like the Canon apparently does which could be a valuable tool for those who print longish documents or send out documents regularly. Seems to use ink a skosh fast but on balance will probably be cheaper than the HP & the Lexmark I had before.Sounds like a lot of negatives but for roughly $80 I consider this machine a BEST BUY for average printer needs. Power users should probably spend a little more.

After reading reviews on this printer I almost didn't get it. But the price was to good to pass up on for a printer that does everything. And so far I haven't had anything go wrong or bad. I read that some people were having trouble loading the software. And maybe some paper issues, but that could have been on another printer or another site. Anyway, please see below for my install, I hope someone may find this helpful.1st: Follow the guide install sheet, set up the printer with the paper, ink cartridges etc. (also, go ahead and put it where it's going to be, don't plug in the USB yet though)2nd: Load the software, can take a little time. This is where I ran into a slight issue. I got an error after the load, I kind of blew it off and thought it's fine, it wasn't. I tried a couple of little things, nothing worked. So I went in and un-installed anything related to the HP printer install. Then I re-installed the software over, (unplug the USB again before you do this if needed)The second attempt worked, boom, printer was good to go. I suggest removing and re-installing the software if you run into any problems. Don't waste your time troubleshooting unless your bored.3rd: The paper, I almost forgot, don't jam it in there to far, just place it gently.The entire setup maybe took me two hours, I'm guessing though, I didn't time it.Good luck, and enjoy the printer, I give it 5 stars, I hope it doesn't prove me wrong :)

Great Aspects:The price of this HP printer (or almost any HP PSC All-in-One) makes it very good value. There is nothing incredibly spectacular about its features but it prints, scans, and copies with good quality and is very easy to use as well as being pretty compact.Downside:The printer is kind of noisy and somewhat slow. You can only load 50 sheets of paper at a time (not a problem for most people although more is probably better). On some HP PSC All-in-One versions, the user cannot select the color palette for printing (black/white versus color); instead, the printer "decides" which it should use. Users are able to decide between black/white or color copies.Summary:A solid printer for the average person who needs to occasionally scan/copy documents and photos; a truly ideal dorm room printer. This printer isn't for heavy useage or extreme quality. The price is very good and potential buyers should shop around for the cheapest price.Recommend.

First of All this All-in-One is great and works fine for me.The Bad thing about it is installation took long time, the Installation Disc came with it was corrupted and stuck at 90%, i had to download the drivers from website (it wasn't too hard however..).Another problem was after installtion everytime i started the printer it printed the test page, it happened like 9 times, finally reading the test page i figured out that test page was supposed to be scanned to align the printer (my bad).Other then that no problem at all, print quality is great and speed is very good for the price i paid. I bought 1315xi model which came with photo papers and i print few of them quality is almost same as the walgreen.Scanner is absolute perfect, scanning quality is amazing.The great feature i like about this one is stand alone copier, thats what i use this machine for most of the time. Copier is excellent.The bottom line, this printer is great for the price i paid,I read lots of reviews about people having problem with HP products, i am not one of them.Hey every product gives problem every now and then, HP products are tend to creat problem at installation, but once its installed it works fine.So if you are looking for Low Priced Good Quality product go with HP, if you have lots of buck to spend go with some thing else

I bought this printer from Target for my daughter at college.She was very happy with it for a few months, when it suddenly stopped working - wouldn't turn on at all. She spent hours on the phone waiting for HP tech support. She was sent an identical printer and had to return hers to HP. Unfortunately, it WAS identical in that it didn't work either. The next time she talked to tech support, they tried to talk her into trading up to a much more expensive printer!

I hate this printer. I got it super cheap when a local Circuit City closed down and sold off floor models. I design business cards, pamplets, etc. on my computer as a side business while going to college and suffice to say, printing them on this printer can't happen. Nothing lines up correctly. It completly ignores the margins I've set. Everything prints at a slanted angle. And then to make it even better, it will print say 3 pages perfect and then never print it right again. DO NOT BUY THIS PRINTER if you need it to print on anything other than standard paper. It will not do it.

If you are looking for a nice copier and scanner at a good price, then you may wish to consider this printer to purchase. If you print labels, such as: CDROM labels, packing labels, or anything else that must line up correctly... buy another printer. No matter how hard you try, the labels will not line up and you waste paper, money, and time trying to make it work. I have this printer and I am pleased with the scanner and the copier. As far as print quality, it does a good job of printing pictures and other images. Once again, it just does not print labels well!!! If you print many labels, DO NOT buy this printer. I just went out and purchased another printer (EPSON C86) to print labels and it does a fantastic job. Unfortunately, I wasted time and money with this hp printer. Hopefully, this review will save some people time and money. Look somewhere else if you wish to print labels!!!

I have been working with computers for over 20 years and have bought and installed many many printers. Never have I spent more than 5 minutes setting up a printer. With HP PSC 1315, however, I spent over an hour pulling my hair out, until I finally gave up and called HP tech support for assistance. My problem with the printer, essentially, was a button panel label sticker, which had to be installed on top of the printer. The quicksheet, which I faithfully followed, had only a vaugue warning that the printer would not work until the label was installed. It did not have a sufficient warning (even in the user manual) that the back of the label has a universal bar code marking which has to be placed over a narrow scanning slot. The only direction the quicksheet, and the manual, gave was to align label straight with the edges. I did this but the scanner is is very fickle, apparently. The "out of toner" and "out of paper" LEDs along with the "copy black" and "copy color" lights kept blinking the whole time until I managed to re-seat the label (after painfully ripping it out from the printer).The HP tech support person was very quick to point out my problem, which seems to indicate the frequency with which this problem occurs with this printer.What was HP thinking? Be warned and be careful!

This printer is so awesome and I love it.It prints pix so good,looks like I took them to a professional lab.Copying is great and the scanner is as well.I didn't have any probs installing and my computer is 2 1/2 years old.The only drawback and it is not even that big a deal, is that it didn't come with a usb cable.Thank goodness I had one or I probably would have been mad since I wanted to play with it right away.I heard all printers do no longer come with usb cords but I did not know that.I bought that universal ink set that refills all inkjet printers for cheap and have yet to use it.I bought this at wal mart and it was only $58!

It worked fine for a while but after a few months it said it had no paper when it did, it refused to print off line and refused to delete the printing task. I uninstalled and reinstalled and it was ok for a little while then started the same thing again. If I had spent all the time I've wasted on this printer working a minimum wage job I would have enough money saved up to buy a Cannon.
