Bought this printer a few years ago for my daughter to use for school projects, etc. Mostly used it as a copier which worked very well. Seldom used otherwise. About a month ago it started indicating a paper jam and nothing could be printed. Tried everything but now the printer is worthless.

Bought this item about 6 months ago. I had hell installing the drivrs. Finally had to download the software abandon the CD and got the software to work properly. Six months later the machine stopped working. The power adapter is fine but the machine itself is just dead. Waste of money. Cost of cartridges will send you into bankruptcy.

We purchased this printer from an electronics store a couple of years ago, when we realized the OS on our computer was not compatible, we just used it for copying, which was ok and it served its purpose. Now that we have upgraded our computer, the scanner works to put pictures in but when I replaced the ink cartridges, it won't print anything except a few yellow dashes or it gives an error. We spent over $100 on this a few years back and now we will have to replace it since it won't print a darn thing. Hopefully the scanner will continue to work and we will only need to buy a printer that JUST prints. I would recommend shopping around and don't be dazzled by the fact that it prints, scans, copies, etc.

Its so bad that a friend gave it to me for nothing (mainly because he couldn't get it to work correctly), and now I'm in the market for a new printer.Mere words fail to describe how frustrating it is to work with this printer. I've worked with computers and peripherals for the past 15 years, and I've never owned one this horrible.It never prints correctly the first time a piece of paper is placed in the tray and the Print button is clicked. It ALWAYS jams first. Then you have to wait until it goes through the process of resetting itself. This repeatedly cleans the printer cartridge heads, significantly reducing the amount of ink in them.Then there are the delightful times when it simply won't respond when the Print button is clicked. Nothing. No response. Nada. I won't even mention the more-then-frequent paper jams, as it would get my pressure up too high.This is by far the worst printer I have ever endured. No matter how much you pay for it, its not worth it.EDIT: After further consideration (and more frustration), this printer has gone from the worst printer I've ever encountered to the worst piece of machinery I've had the misfortune to work with. It simply does not do what we depend on any piece of machinery to do -- work.Given the divided character of the reviews, I can only come to the conclusion that there was some horrible breakdown in HP's quality control when producing a substantial number of these printers. Either many of them were produced in different locations or there was just one horrific product run. HP just neglected to inform its customers that most 1315s are permanently defective. I'm going to throw this one out before I snap and smash it with a hammer.

I plugged it in and it loaded itself!!! All I had to do was click the print button and it started printing.If you want a printer that is Minimal Setup or are looking for a printer for someone who HATES setting up printers and stuff, then this is the Perfect Printer.Also, it has the Scanner/Copier that is like Icing on the cake. ;)

Jeez! After wading through the mess of 1 and 2 star reviews on this thing, I must have gotten REALLY lucky with the one I got! I've had mine for over three years now, and it still works great. Maybe it's the light use mine sees or something. It's mainly used for scanning documents and pictures, but I print with it once every couple of weeks and it has been working great! The only real gripe I have with it is the thing drinks ink like a fish does water. I'm sure I've spent well over 5 times the original cost of the thing on ink. I can't really fault that, as it seems to be about par for the course with every other printer in the same price range as this was. I've been shuffling my picture printing duties between this and a Canon ip4200 and I've had good luck with both despite the influx of negative reviews on both of them. I should probably add that I shoot some compressed air in mine every month or so to keep it a little less dusty. Perhaps that alone is the stroke of luck I seem to have with these things...

I am not sure what all the 1 star reviews are for. I've had this printer for over 2 years now, it has never given me any problems. I use it as a network printer for 2 desktop and 2 laptop at home, and everything has been great from the start. I can't recall where I bought it or how much I paid for though.The print speed is a little slow for my taste, but I only use it to print college paper. I have tried printing photo with it with satisfaction, although I'd rather have my picture professionally printed. The copy option is very convenient, I have used it many time. The picbridge is rather useless, I dont see why anyone would use that instead of a computer since this model doesn't have a browsing area, you have to use the screen on your camera.It is a little loud when it's printing, I can also feel the desk shaking sometimes. Other than that, I have no complains.If you're looking for a AIO printer, technology has advance so much since this one came out. For the same price, you can probably get a newer model with faster print speed, maybe quieter and less shaky too. I am in the market to buy another AIO, and I am pretty confident that another HP will serve me just as well.

I've read many of the other reviews.The 4 and 5 star reviews contain many comments that are true - as do the 1 and 2 star reviews.There is no printer jam in my printer. It's simply malfunctioning. [I've followed all the internet based cleaning instructions, etc]. It was sensitive from the day we opened the box.As a consumer - HP printers are lasting me under 18 months; and typically leaving me with a larger investment in unopened ink cartages then the cost of the original printer. [Is there a market for these?]I'm frustrated with the HP quality, and their business model. It sucks from a consumer's perspective. His is going to catch up with them - as more and more people no longer see HP products as reputable/high-quality - which is how they made their name - to a company that produces junk for landfills.

I got this printer 2 months ago, and I have to reload the software every week and a half because it quits working properly. It was dirt cheap, but I guess you get what you pay for. HP wasn't much help either. Never again!

I've had this printer for over three years, and just now it's died. While there have been a few minor issues with it over the years (unfortunately I can't tell you what, my tech-savvy boyfriend took care of everything) for the great majority of the time everything has been peachy. The scanner was simple to use, I loved the copy feature built into it, and pages printed reasonably fast - for the cheap price we paid (and after reading all of these other reviews, haha) I count myself lucky.

This printer worked well for one year. Then the scanner went out. Next went the copy option. Hp support of course was no help. A month later...goodbye printing option! The paper jams and constantly tries to feed without even pressing print. The check print cartridge and check paper lights blink and nothing will print. Again, no help from HP other than the option to buy an "upgrade" that will surely be another piece of junk! Don't buy this unless you have extra cash to blow!

I've installed the cd over and over and thought it was my computer that was the problem. However, I've tried it on 3 different computers at home and sometimes the computer and printer don't seem to recognize each other. It seldom works and when it does it takes up to 10 minutes to print out just one paper. Paper jams happen all too often and the scanner takes very long to run through and more often then not it doesn't work. I've owned this for nearly 3 years and it's only been fairly reliable as a copier. Shame on HP for on such a horrible product.

Perhaps my most regrettable consumer electronics purchase ever. Misfeeds regularly. It has to print a test page, sometimes multiple times, every time a new cartridge is inserted, which is WAY too often for my taste. And every time I have no choice but to let it print multiple test pages, it's like a bitter pill. Oh, and they updated the software so that the 'soft proof' option is no longer available... meaning, you have no control over how much ink you use. Used to be, you could print something as a sort of draft, using less ink. But HP KNOWS that it's not selling you printers. The printer is simply a hook to get you to buy printer CARTRIDGES, and this one's a PIG.

I own three of these worthless machines. I bought one for light use at my office, and it worked fine so I bought 2 more for my home. The two I bought for home worked for 6 months and now you can't print any more. It just jams the paper and gives you "errors". Heed the other reviews and stay away from this product.

I've had my printer for almost 2 years and have had absolutely NO problems with it whatsoever! I created most of the stationery products for my recent wedding and used this printer to print it all - programs, place cards (used the perforated business cards with no problem), card stock, menu cards, labels, even the embossed square envelopes for the invitations were a breeze! It made everything look like it was professionally done and I had great compliments on it. The copying is also great. I am a pianist and occasionally need to copy music from large sheets onto normal 8 1/2 x 11 sheets to fit in my black binder and the scaling worked great for that! For scanning, I used it to scan my engagement photos so I could submit them online to the newspaper and there was no distortion whatsoever. They looked exactly like the original. I have been absolutely pleased with the quality of output for this printer.

I've had nothing but problems with this machine since day one. Constant paper jams, carriage stalls, reads *ink is low* right after a new cartridge has been replaced. Yesterday was the last straw. I went to make a copy and the computer could not find the printer and instructed me to install it. HUH?

I've had this thing for about 18 months. It worked pretty good except for the goofy alignment procedure when changing cartridges. Last week, it started giving an error concerning the Image Gallery keyword throwing an exception. Calls to the HP line received advice and instructions, but all failed. Now, I get the error on every start up and the scanner is totally inoperable. I'll trash it and buy something else. I guess you get what you pay for. This thing was $63 at Sams. I've had Canons and Epsons that quit much earlier and cost much more than this HP.

50% of the time this piece of s**t hp "printer" is incapable of taking a single sheet of paper off of a properly loaded sheaf of even 30 pages. It physically jams, and on top of that, the program ALSO "jams", which means you'll be rebooting your @#! "USB" computer to print a single page.If you have private information to be printed, forget it. After his hp fails you, the next time you turn on this piece of junk, it may print out those pages from projects you thought were long abandoned by the machine.I can't believe a hunk of garbage like the hp psc 1315 makes it through a company's inspection process, but here it is.Do not buy this piece of s**t at ANY price.

I would simply echo the comments of others who have been pleased with this printer's performance. I bought this at a throw-away price, only because my (more expensive) Canon had broken down and I needed something quickly. It's been about a year and a half, and I've not had a single problem. The printer is easy to use, has all the most critical features, produces copies/printouts of high quality, and at least for me, has been totally reliable.

My wife bought this thing for me as a replacement for a highly reliable but old Hewlett-Packard Laserjet. I wanted the ability to print color, and to scan documents. The machine has NEVER worked properly. Constant paper feed problems. The only way to get paper to feed correctly to print even a single page is to lift the back of the sheet with your fingers, and "push" it into the paper feeder.This is my second (and last ever) Hewlett Packard product. Never again.

I've had this printer for about a year and bought it mainly because of price and needed a printer/scanner/copier. So far, I haven't had any problems with it and didn't have a problem setting it up.I also checked to see what the replacement ink cartridges would cost compared to other printers on the market and this wasn't too bad. No paper jams or problems with software or printing; however, this is used only occasionally for our home office so I don't know how it would function under heavy use. I've used good quality 24# paper and junk paper - both with no problems.I've been happy with the color quality, but then I'm not an expert on determining such things - I just know I've been satisfied with it. The photos look good to me, but I always use good quality, shiny photo paper.My only complaint is that I find it somewhat difficult to get to the ink cartridges to replace them. They're buried in the bowels of the machine and can be difficult to get to and somewhat difficult to determine if you've got them snapped in place properly. The design could have been better. For that reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5.

I WOULD RECOMMEND BUYING THIS MODEL but wished I had read a review like this one first to save me a bunch of time - which, is why I write this. I hope it helps... First, I bought this as a factory reconditioned item January 4th, 2005 at Staples. Normally, I would never consider buying a reconditioned printer, but at $70.00 USD, what the heck - Staples is easy going and never gave me any return problems. CAUTION - this printer (or any other - anymore) DOES NOT COME WITH THE USB CABLE. You must buy it seperately. FIRST TIME SET-UP: I have learned from years of frustration with HP drivers, it is just easier to get the quick hookup sheet and follow it exactly as it says. Even if you are a computer expert, save yourself the hassles, swallow your pride, and use the hookup sheet. Many of the other review posts I've read that complain about problems after installation, would not have had any problems if they just followed this simple rule. The instructions are easy to follow for any level computer user. Now with that said, I will say that it took FOREVER to finish the software install. I believe it took so long because it was looking for every possible picture file in every possible location on my hard drive. PRINTING: This printer prints very well - exceptional for $70.00 :) Although, it does not print even close to the speeds shown on the box. But, in HP's defense, I haven't found an ink jet printer yet that does, by any manufacturer. Draft mode is fast, Normal Draft mode is a very nice feature that is in between draft and normal. Example: Text printing with some colors and tables, I printed about 1 page every 8-10 seconds in draft mode, every 40 seconds in normal draft mode, and a grueling 1 minute and 50 seconds for normal mode. I didn't even try best mode because I didn't have the patience, and I wasn't printing photos. READ THIS IF PRINTING ON ANY DIFFERENT PAPER STOCK. Boy I wish someone told me this - would have been great to actually put it in the online manual. When printing on labels, thicker paper, greeting cards, transparencies, etc... Go to printer preferences, change the paper style to "OTHER SPECIALTY PAPER". This will solve the - PAPER DOESN'T FEED PROPERLY problem I have read about in other posted reviews (and had myself). I was ready to chuck this printer through the window after ruining countless labels - not to mention lots of ink (printing in normal mode). Fortunately I happened upon this new-to-me feature (PAPER STYLE) while trying desperately to fix this problem. SCANNING: Worked fine - no problems. Not the best scanner in the world, but again - for $70.00 you can't go wrong here. COPYING: Worked fine - no complaints. LAST COMMENT: This printer is LOUD! No matter what you do (print, scan, copy), it sounds like something might not be put together right. I have just learned to get used to it and not print after everyone else in household has gone to sleep. Hope this helps... Bonz

I bought this printer a little over a year ago and I used it heavily during the school year with no problems scanning, copying, or printing. I started printing on 3x5 cards and it worked great, except when I reset all the defaults back to 11x81/2, It grabs the paper, jams and will not clear the error. I can't even use just the scanner or copy function, and I can not reset it according to the instructions. Great while it lasted, but I had hoped to get more than a year out of it.

I have never written an online review before. This disappointment of a printer/copier/scanner has driven me to it. The printer worked fine for the first few months, though the color printing was never satisfactory, streaked with fine white lines.Then the problems began. Error messages of stalled print cartridges. Strange lights turning on. Weird noises. Printer shut-down. The only way we can get the printer to work now is to unplug it and re-boot the computer several times.Life is too short for this printer. Buy another one instead.
