This HP Laserjet 4050N is the best printer on the market for the price. The reasons I purchase this printer is because we had such great luck at work with HP 4050N. It is a old rebuilt printer but it works better than new one and will last longer (in my opinion).Great Printer and we love it in our home office..

As others have noted, this printer is ridiculously fast. Even when it's hibernating in sleep mode, it only takes about 10 seconds for it to wake up, and start printing.It's an extremely reliable workhorse- I've printed at least 20-30,000 pages to mine without a single paper jam. All I do is refill it with paper, and the occasional printer cartridge.Only downside- no duplexing on this particular model. I have to take the paper out, reverse it, rotate it, then put it back in.

We got this printer for our home, where we have a wireless network and five laptop users, all students or instructors in higher education. I had this model at work for years and thought it was time to get a "real" printer instead of the flimsy personal models at the big box stores. We were able to get the printer connected to our home network in a snap and enjoy relatively carefree and reliable printing. One problem was jamming when we tried to recycle paper, especially thinner than normal paper. That caused some serious hunting for torn off edges stuck in hidden printer parts! Since that experiment in green printing everything's been fine.

I've installed a dozen of these printers on our office network beginning about 3 years ago. All are still up and running. Low maintenance workhorses, all I've had to do is purchase more toner cartridges as needed. Compared to our old Xerox printers, these are a dream come true. No fusers, transfer kits, main charge grids, or imaging units to replace. Easy to follow configuration and help screens makes it simple to set up as stand-alones or on a network. I've tried a couple of "lighter-duty" HP laser printers and found the 4250n to be a better machine and well worth the extra money in the long run.

We have had one of these printers now for more than a year and have yet to have the first problem with it. It prints fast and even at lower resolutions the print quality is still excellent. I am currently getting ready to purchase another one.So far we have had no problems with this printer and hope that it stays that way. Ii would gladly recommend it to others.

We have about 6 LaserJet 4050 printers and we are generally happy with them; however, there is a serious problem with the print feed rollers on these machines. We find that users complain of paper jams after a few thousand prints. It is always the case that the paper has not actually jammed, but is sitting on the hold down brackets because the lower pf roller has warn and can't pick it up. Replacing the pf rollers resolves the issue, but is a constant problem (pf roller run around $4.00 each).

This printer delivers exceptional quality and performance, it's fast, and it's tremendously reliable. It is a true workhorse, and that is priceless. I have printed an average of 100-200 pages per day, every day, for the last 4+ years, and have never been disappointed (and I have very low tolerance for products that don't work!). I have needed only one service call, and that was easy too, because the HP site provides links to service providers. The tech came out the next day, and he went beyond repairing and replacing the part; he cleaned the machine inside and out, made suggestions for maximum usage and efficiency, and provided excellent customer service. With HP, I truly feel that I am getting so much product (and innovation and reliability) for so little money (and, no, I don't own their stock!).

I have at least one to two of this model printer in the offices I work at because they are so reliable, and need minimal maintenence. All of mine are in health care settings, where records are key. The toner last for many sheets of printing (never counted, but I know I probably go more than 1000 sheets at least). The printer rarely jams (except when I used really cheap thin paper), and the secretaries love the sheet feed selection if having to use overhead paper for a letter. The quality of the print (i believe up to 1200dpi) is great for black and white. Highly recommended investment, quite likely one of the last printers your office will need.

for some reason this adds 6 inches to the foot print. This means that you need 6" more desk space behind the unit.

In the hospital I worked we have HP laserjet 4050N in every floor. Initially, it looks okay but later a lot of problem with paper jam and not recognizing the size of paper. More than half of printers in the hospital end up feeding from the front, in attempt to trick that stupid HP printer. Otherwise, it stopped printing after first page. HP has a very unreliable customer support and they won't waste their time once 1 yr warrenty period is over. They don't even seem to know the printers they produced and will suggest you to buy a new one.

This printer is very loud. It sounds like a blowdryer and causes the lights in my office to dim (I'm in an old building, but still). I have a USB 2.0 connection, so there should be no problem. It keeps jamming and the help function is completely useless. I used the HP 4000 for many years and was very happy. This printer is a disaster.

This printer has a great price, good specs, and fast printing. However, it does have some issues that hopefully HP will work-out.The firmware seems pretty buggy. We've had several different problems with the printer crashing. Every couple days or so we get a "Service Error" message on the screen and the printer has to be rebooted. Also, I tried printing a large (1000 page) pdf on it and it would just freeze after printing around 140 pages. It froze twice on the exact same number of pages. I had to break it up into print jobs of 100 pages each. We've also seen where it gets in an infinite cycle where it says, "Processing Job" and the data light blinks, but nothing ever comes out. Again, it requires a reboot. We upgraded the firmware, but the problems didn't go away.FYI, a parallel port doesn't seem to deliver data fast enough to this printer! It consumes data faster than the port can send it. We could only achieve the 45ppm when we hooked it up to the USB 2.0 port. Not sure about the performance when using HP JetDirect internal print server.

I am used to faster network printers in the 30ppm range (which makes home printers seem slow). Then, this thing spits out at 45ppm. It seems like ours does 60ppm because it prints a page per second (maybe because they are not full pages of text). Wow. Of course, the expected HP quality and reliability.

This printer is ridiculously fast. We use one as a network printer and I have not been able to walk the 30 feet from my office to the printer before it has finished printing 3 or 4 page PDFs, emails, etc. This printer is faster than our photocopier. 1200x1200 dpi gives excellent detail.

The idea of a multifunction printer, scaner, fax, etc., is a good idea, but this implementation is cludgy and overpriced. To start, the base model does not include fax capabilities, which you must add later for an additional cost.All in all, the Brother MFC-8820DN is a much better value (around $600) and has everything included.

I have three of these printers for my office (Also a Cannon IR5000 and an HP Color 4500 to explain the caliber of printers that I use. The first one I have had for 3 years and it works as good as the day I got it. I use it for between 20 and 200 pages a day EVERY day. The Extended life toner cartridge seems to last FOREVER. The network feature was quite easy to setup through NT, XP, and 2000 using the standard Windows Drivers.. Heck I didn't even need a driver disk - How cool is that?The second and third ones are general office printers which handle 200+ pages a day. Again easy network configuration and never a problem.I don't [care]what the resolution is, or that fact that is spits out 16+ pages a minute - All that matters for me is that it works, I don't ever have to fix it, and it's super fast. I work in a wood shop and I swear this thing sits under 1/2 inch of dust. I blow it off with an air hose once a month and that is it. The manual feed works great too. One more thing - In the seemingless infinte printouts we make - we have never had one jam... Not ONE.Stop looking and buy this printer! You will not forgive yourself if you pass it up.I would and will buy this printer again.Matthew

If you are looking for a reliable network printer with a fair amount of features for a small office this is it. We currently have 8-10 people that use this printer daily yet we never had we had a problem with it. I added the duplex tray for some heavy duty print jobs. It went in flawlessly and worked perfect. If your doing heavy volume printing you might want something a little more zippy but if your doing your average office workload this is perfect. Did I mention it supports internet printing. So print to it from home.

As someone who has used, recommended, and supported printers in workgroups for nearly 10 years, I've come across a couple of truly outstanding printers. This is one of them. It's fast, the text quality is outstanding, and using the manual feeds and output tray, you can have a straight-through paper path for heavier stock. I've successfully used this printer to send post-card thick paper through to print, yes, post-cards.Easily and completely compatible with both PCs and Macs. Possibly the best B&W printer I've ever encountered.
