I've had this camera for over a year now and honestly dont have to much of a complant other than a few blurry shots every once in a while. I'm a girl and im addicted to taking pictures, and this camera has been great for every type of picture i take. Great face finder, takes very clear action shots, and great coloring. easy to use on the computer. Honestly if your looking for a camera that can deal with a beating, get this one. If this wasn't a good camera it would be long dead by now, i drop it, get it wet, throw it, squish it into tight places, let all my friends borrow it, slide the cover thing a million times when im bored, and other then a few straches on the corner, it looks new. I have dropped it in my pool and also taking picture with my hands soaking wet and its been dripping with water and still works. other than the one incident i dropped it in my pool it stopped working for about an hour but then revived itself and started working again. only complaints: watch your fingers, its easy to get them in the picture, i live in florida so i bring it to the beach alot and sand gets stuck in the slide cover very easily, also got sand stuck in the lens and it stopped working until i blew the sand out with a blow dryer about 3 days later, and it does not charge in the computer, infact the battery dies pretty quickly when its plugged into the computer so watch out for that, and beware when you put it in your bag or in a purse it doesnt squish against something that flips the slide cover on, that happens very easily.

All in all a great camera, worth the buy.

Much improved over the previous version S3 Pro in terms of ease of use.
The larger display screen is nice and the menu is much improved.

Although the AA batteries of the previous version had its advantages, I prefer the lithion ion battery system of this version.

The actual results is not that much of an improvement -- pixel count and ccd sizes remain the same.

I've purchased several digital Fuji cameras over the years and have been very happy with them. I purchased this one because of its very small size (and low cost). After comparing this one to similar cameras by other manufacturers, I decided to stick with Fuji. Like all others in this size and price range, it lacks a viewfinder (which I sorely miss), but that's just the way they are making them nowadays.

I found a couple of the controls to be slightly funky, but nothing I couldn't easily adjust to. Most other aspects of the camera functioned pretty much as I expected -- time between pictures, light adjustments, etc. The one critisism I have is that the colors are not as vibrant as in photos I've taken with my other Fuji digital cameras (which used the super CCD technology). On the other hand, I paid between $350 and $550 for my previous cameras, so the comparison really isn't valid.

All in all, a nice, small camera that will comfortably fit in a shirt pocket. Great for taking on an outing where you don't want to lug around a heavy camera and just want to take some casual snapshots.

I bought my S2000HD as an upgrade from an S5000 which I have happily used for tasks varying from family snaps to geological fieldwork. If you are a fan of Fuji's almost-but-not-quite-SLR digital cameras then you will feel at home with the S2000HD. It retains all the upsides: smaller and lighter than a DSLR, great lenses, no dust, great photos and a good price.

The S2000HD also has 3 killer features that made me upgrade.
1) Image stabilisation
2) Records movies in HD resolution and allows me to zoom while recording
3) 15x optical zoom

But there are flaws, most notably

1) The zoom is controlled by a push-button style control which is very jerky.
2) The lens has a push-fit cover, instead of a threaded rim. I think this means I will be unable to fit a UV lens filter.

If you don't think you can live with these limitations and you are willing to spend double the money then have a look at the S100fs. If you don't want to spend that much and you don't mind having last-year's model (with no image stabilisation, less zoom and lower res movies) then see if you can find a heavily-discounted S9600.

I bought this camera to replace my very trusted S9600 which I managed to accidently fry last week. I still plan to have it repaired by Fuji, so at this point in time, I don't know which will become my first choice camera. This is a sturdy feeling camera - some posts have said heavy - but I disagree. I like a camera to feel businesslike, and this one does. It's small - I'm a woman with small hands, and even my fingers tend to feel a little cramped on the body. And putting the lens cap on invariably means you put a big thumbprint over the viewing screen - annoying, but it's new, so maybe I just haven't got the hang of it yet. It seems to be a good camera - nice sharp pix and easy to use, yet able to go a little further than basic beginner photographs. The lens is automatic - again, I'm used to my more manual S9600 and being able to screw the lens cap on while it's out, and have found myself chasing this one back into the body of the camera a couple of times. So far, enjoying it. It's got slightly more pixels than my other camera, so we'll see what happens in the end. This one is certainly lighter, and more compact, so maybe a better camera for carrying about unobtrusively.

Well, I was really looking forward to getting this camera. What lets it down in my eyes, is its so plastic. So much so, it looks cheap and nasty. But, it takes great pics, and videos, so thats what really matters. Im happy with it, but not ecstatic.....

this was by far the best camera i have ever purchased. unfortunately it no longer works thanks to a little water incident i had at the beach. the pictures come out with great quality and i always get complimented by how it looks. videos are great. definitely a must buy.

This was bought as a Christmas present & it is a fantastic little camera. There are lots of features on it that you would expect to find on an SLR camera but without the hefty price tag. It is easy to use (i'm a techno phobe!) & takes amazing photos. I recently purchased a 2GB memory card & card reader which helps save on battery consumption but on saying that, i am still using the batteries it came with and i have taken well over 200 photos (with flash on a lot of them) so cant complain about battery life as yet. As with all digital cameras, i would recommend a set of rechargable batteries although the manual suggests that it will take approx 300 photos with alkaline batteries (not tested that out yet). I havent used the software that came with this camera (i have my own photo software) & am using Vista without any problems. At this price, a great buy.

I bought this as a present for my husband last christmas and he was over the moon with it. The features on it are excellent and it's so easy to understand that even I can use it.

The Fujifilm S8100 camera is almost exactly what I expected from the specification, and its' use is relatively straightforward and easy to understand. I have two early use criticisms:-
--The zoom control is very fast, overshoots and returns,making fine control difficult
--I consider the supplied software to be very "user unfriendly" to such an extent that I have been obliged to uninstall it from my computor

An ok camera really, untill a few weeks ago. A year after I bought this camera it started playing up: lens would not retract and camera would not turn off properly. Not even after taking the batteries out would the lens retract. Sometimes, on a good day, the camera will function properly, and sometimes not. I would not buy this camera again.

The camera was nice for the month it worked....I got it for my graduation right before college and it never even made it to school. I went to an outdoor concert and was taking pictures when it started to drizzle. I put it in my purse immediately. It could not have gotten that wet, yet it began to act funky later that evening, the buttons were all doing different things than they were supposed to. For a while it only tuned on when it was plugged in and you hit the on button about five times, eventually it wouldn't turn on anymore. Because it was considered water damage the warranty wouldn't cover it and I'm out a camera. The screen was great and the pictures it did manage to take were ok, but sometimes turned out pixely, not what I would have expected even from a 5.1 megapixel camera.

Unless you are planning to have this camera encased in magical protective gear forever, I would avoid it.

I bought this Camera after I lost a much more exensive canon A650 IS (about £300)This is an easy too use camera with a big Zoom, it felt a bit big at first, but once I saw some of the pictures I took with it and how easy it is too use, I can honestly say my pictures are very good, they are clear and the camera is a joy too use. I could not be happier. This is not a complex camera, but a brillaint camera for taking good pictures with......and as the prices come down it makes so much sense.

Great camera! We owned it for 3 month. We got this for less than $400 when there were multiple sale, promotion and rebates. I am not a professional but rather enjoy the picture shooting. We upgraded this from Fuji S7000, which is another great camera at time.

This is not DSLR camera, but it is close to DSLR quality. It is fast, lot of function, wonderful color, great image quality in low light, wide angle, telephotos, tilt live LCD view, video with zooming function... You got them all in one body. It is heavy, but there is no need to invest expensive lens, no need to change lens in between shootings.

If you do take a lot of pictures, you do need to get a spare battery just in case. Beside this, I just love this camera!

Bought this camera last year, the photo quality is good.

The big problem with this camera is that the battery life is soooo low. This camera kills and drinks battery. I have spend almost £20 in less than 6 months on battery alone. I have use Nikon D40 which had a wonderful battery life. I think I will be going back to Nikon D40 or D60.

I have had the Fuji Finepix J10 for about a week now. I take a lot of car and beach pics but I am an amateur. The menu system is easy to use and has just about the perfect amount of features for me. I see a lot of complaints about limited features but hey, it's a $100 point and shoot camera. Professionals would never be using it anyway. The people that would be using it are most likely people just like me. The camera is easy to understand and the pics are of excellent quality. My last camera was a Vivitar and the one before that was a Cannon. Both were highly featured and incredibly complex to use for even basic photography. The pics werent any better even when taken by friends that are knowledgable about photography. Plus I never used 90% of the features anyway. They were just in the way. I recommend the Fuji Finepix J10 highly for non professionals like myself that want a solid point and shoot camera.

I've had this camera for about a day now. I've taken shots indoors, outdoors, macro, landscape, good light, low light, and more. This camera performs pretty well. True to the nature of Fuji compacts, it boasts simplicity. Once you've got a pair of batteries in it and have completed a couple initial settings, this camera is ready to point and shoot right out of the box. It's also very quick. You can power it on, autofocus, take a shot, let it record, and then power it off all in a total of roughly 7-8 seconds. Also, one of the reasons I chose to go with this camera is the shutter lag is almost non-existent. If you want a camera that's pretty close to the instantaneous feel of taking snapshots with a film camera, this is about as close as you're going to get in this price range. It has a very "instant capture" feel to it.

Image quality is pretty good. In this area you really get what you pay for. I've been impressed with some of the detail I can get in my macro shots. I uploaded a couple examples (the cat and the soda can), both of which were taken without a tripod in indoor lighting. Color and saturation seem to come out about right as well. While this camera comes nowhere close to what you can get out of a DSLR or some larger lens point and shoots, for a $100 compact it's entirely acceptable and I have no real complaints. To round out the good features of this camera, it also has a pretty sleek look to it and is fairly light and compact for its class.

However, this camera isn't perfect. For only $110, it doesn't need to be, hence still giving it a five star rating. But it does have a few small issues. The mechanism for covering the battery/SD card compartment seems a little questionable and finicky. It's a bit awkward to close when the batteries are in and I'm worried that over time it might malfunction because of this. Also, as far as I've been able to tell so far, the camera appears to lack in-software filters such as black & white and sepia. If they are there, they're not very easy to find. Finally, the build quality doesn't seem to be anything special, mostly/all plastic. But again, for $110, it doesn't need to be superior.

Overall, I'd have to say this camera is great value for the money. The almost non-existent shutter lag is a huge plus, the image quality is good, and it performs exactly as it should for the price. It's a quick and easy compact digital camera and it's relatively affordable. If you're looking for the perfect camera, I'd suggest raising your budget and going for something a little nicer. But if you just want something for casual snapshots, or to compliment your DSLR, this Fuji A610 is a fine option.

UPDATE 1/11/2009: I've had this camera for over a year and a half now, and it's still working perfectly like the day I bought it.

I bought three, one for mom one for dad and one for me. I have a larger Nikon but wanted something more portable and easy to use. I liked the Fuji, the controls are easy to use, it has enough functions to satisfy most useers and it's small enough to put easily in your pocket.

Unfortunately, while sitting on a couch the camera dropped to the floor and the lens did not function after that. The hardware holding the lens is plastic and the mechanism extending the lens got jammed up.

It got sent back with minimal hassle, thanks Amazon!. I will replace it with another slightly more expensive camera.

Have not gotten a report from mom and dad yet, but I reviewed a lot of entry level cameras and this one looked great for older people looking for a digital camera that's easy to use.

I ordered this camera recently and found it to be a wonderful camera. Then the LCD looked like it had a crack in it even though we don't recall it EVER being dropped. Fuji says they won't fix it under warranty. They should have stood behind their product a little better rather than charging me $61 to fix the darn thing.

Originally, I had hoped to buy a digital SLR. I went to Jessops to some research and the assistant told me £300 for the lens I wanted, and £500 for the camera body! Way too rich. Then he showed me the S8100. This is such a versatile camera. It does almost anything an SLR can within the limitations of its lens. I wanted a camera that allowed me close ups. It does macro to 1cm. I have taken some amazing shots of a dragonfly, bees, hoverflies, flowers etc. I have taken shots at full zoom (18x) without a tripod and the results have been excellent.
I also wanted a camera that could take rapid pictures. My previous camera was so slow, that by the time it took the picture, the action was gone. Depending on your image quality setting this will rapidly rattle through a series of frames.
An added bonus is video with sound!
The expanded manual comes on CD. There are many features that allow the operator to control shutter speed, the ISO settings and other stuff I haven't even started considering yet.
It certainly does everything I want. It does need an expanded memory card. I use a 2GB and that gives over 800 shots at 10MP.
The Finepix viewer (ver.5.4) has expanded features over my previous version. It downloads quickly and gives more options for viewing folders.
If you are in the market for a state of the art compact camera, look no further.

I've had my camera for about five months and I'm still extremely pleased with it. It does everything for the novice using an SLR (like me!). Its both a point and shoot camera or if you can spend more time - it's also got enough options to keep you busy for ages! I've used it both inside and out, distant and macro shots and its just the best camera I've ever had!

I just got this camera. My current camera before I bought this one was a Fuji FinePix A303. I love the A303 and it takes great quality photos for the price I paid for the camera. The only reason I got the V10 was because it has more megapixels than my current camera and also because I liked the design with the large LCD screen and I assumed it would take even nicer photos being that it was a more recent model camera than the A303. After reading about it, it seemed to have a lot of great features and it got great reviews. When I got it I really loved the design and how easy it was to use but I must say I was not impressed by the quality of the photos. I don't know if maybe I got a damaged model but the photos are not turning out very good. I have the camera set on the highest quality setting and the photos are turning out kind of terrible with bad contrast and the clarity is very grainy-looking and the colors are awful. I was annoyed that my older A303, which is only 3.2 megapixels, is taking much better shots by comparison when set up on the tripod in the same setting and with the same lighting.

One complaint I have is that this camera has a built-in video game. As a consumer, I would rather a company focus on giving a top-quality product that does what it is designed to do. In this case, a camera that takes great photos. I don't appreciate them adding cost to the camera to add a feature I find useless. I have Nintendo DS if I want to play a hand-held video game. I bought the camera to take photos, which it doesn't do very well, because apparently the company would rather add the video game feature than a better sensor in the camera. Hmm.

edit: The camera stopped working only three months after I bought it. It would not power on with either the ac cord *or* the rechargable battery. I sent it to Fuji company for warranty repair. Their customer service stinks. They said repair would take about two weeks. I filled out the repair form in detail, including my email address, as they said would inform you when they received the camera and find what is wrong with it and keep you up to date on the repair process and when they'll ship it back to you. Two weeks passed. They never emailed me to let me know they received my camera so I called them to see how soon the camera would be finished being repaired and found they did not even register the camera had arrived (almost two weeks prior to my call). The customer service persona seemed annoyed and said someone probably forgot to register the camera had arrived and so no one had even started repairing it yet. Even though my name and address had been written clearly on the repair form they still somehow got it wrong when logging it into the computer. After they corrected all that, the camera was another two weeks being repaired before it was returned to me. When I received it back, it was not even completely repaired. It would only operate when plugged into the ac outlet and would not recognize there was even a battery installed, nor would the battery take a charge, even though the battery was brand new which had come with the three-month-old camera. Needless to say, my next camera will not be Fuji brand.

The camera is wonderful! It came out exactly as it looks on the website. I ordered it for my 11 year old daughter as a Christmas present and she loves it. She finds it very easy to use.
My problem is with the shipping. I ordered it as a Christmas present after reading all the wonderful reviews regarding their shipping. It took the FULL 10 days to arrive at my house. It did not make it in time for Christmas. Then when it did arrive, the box was soaking wet all the way through!!! It seemed as though someone dropped it in the ocean and then delievered it to my door. Everything in the box was soaked! Luckily the important things were wrapped in plastic bags.
With that said, I recommend the camera but allow plenty of time for delievery.

I've had this camera for about six months now and taken thousands of shots. A good basis for a review I would have thought !
In a few words,the Fuji Finepix S5800 is an absolute cracker ! I've just this very weekend filled up two SD cards full of mountain shots taken in the Lake District and I have to say,they are probably the best outdoor photographs I've ever taken. I also took some video footage which although not as sharply defined when viewed on a full screen,is quite acceptable.
The camera offers a multitude of shooting variables including manual over-ride although I generally just use the Auto/landscape/portrait in natural light and movie.
I compared it with shots taken by a professional photographer friend using an expensive Nikon digital SLR and the Finepix shots were just as good !
I can't believe it's down to eighty four quid....that's an absolute steal.
Highly recommended.
