I have used the Epson R2880 for almost two years and I am consistently pleased with the print quality. I am convinced that the three black cartridges are a big factor in the sharpness and high contrast that images produced by this printer and ink consistently include.With eight cartridges, the printer often seems to be running low on ink in at least one cartridge. I keep a stock of spare cartridges available to quickly replace an empty one.I only purchase new Epson cartridges. Others might work okay, but I do not have the time to experiment and I do not want to waste paper.The overall pront quality that I ahve achieved with the R2880 and the Epson ink meets my needs well. For two years, every time I worked on my R2880, using the manual roll single sheet paper feeder, it took hours to get it to print after which it would print and then the error messages would return continually--kept getting paper jam messages or wrong media messages even though the paper wasn't jammed and it had been printing on the same media as before. This may be a Mac users or Mac Adobe users issue only. I have a solution. Ignore the paper jam error. Do not press the blinking light and keep the paper as is in the printer. Just go to your computer screen, pause the printer and then restart the printing process and it will work without further problems. Do keep an eye on this, as there have been a couple of times when the paper didn't feed and the printer started printing-rare. Immediately delete the job if that happens and resend a new print job. When loading the paper, you may need to press down on the paper for it to feed into the printer properly. That has been my experience. Hope it works for you. Obviously, there's a glitch, but there is a simple solution. Despite this problem, I love the quality of this printer.Epson R2880 Large Format Photo Printer (C11CA16201)

I've had this printer replaced once out of the gate. The replacement has been nothing but trouble:- continual paper jam messages,- bad color reproduction, whether photoshop controls or printer controls color.- uses ink in excess of the number of prints

It's a great machine that prints excellent photographs. Start-up is somewhat noisy, but printing is quiet. Amazon's picture of the machine makes it look smaller than it actually is.

OK had this for a while waiting on a table to set it on. Finally got one set up was pretty easy. The picture quality is better than anything I have ever seen. I printed one picture and the quality of the print is amazing in every way. I'm looking forward to seeing how long the color on the cartridges last. So far So Good the quality is AMAZING

I've used Epson printers for printing photos for several years and have been extremely pleased with the quality of color prints that come from the Epson machines. The main question I had in using the 2880 was whether the machine would be better than my Epson 2400 photo printer. I use the current versions of Lightroom or Photoshop for my printing, and I've found that if your monitor is of good quality and properly calibrated, the photos that the Epson printers produce are almost indistinguishable from what you see on the monitor. That's true up to the 13 by 19-inch images that you can print with both the 2400 and the 2800. (To get a good picture, you do need to shot with a good image. I've always used images of at least 10 megapixels, whether they come from a film scanner or a digital SLR camera.) The main claim for improvement for this machine is the presence of an additional ink cartridge, vivid magenta.I set up the printer in accordance with the quick start guide and CD containing drivers that was included. (You'll need a USB cable with a type B connector.) I spent the most set-up time just opening the little plastic bags that contain the ink cartridges and installing the cartridges. I had a choice of installing matte black or photo black inks. I installed the photo black because that's the ink suggested for the papers that I regularly use. Be warned that anytime you switch from one black to the other you use a significant amount of ink because of purging and refilling the lines. I followed the directions and the new printer was up and running in less than 15 minutes. Be sure to install the ICC profiles available on line from Epson if you expect the best print results. You can go to the site for the profiles from the install disk.I made a classic mistake in printing my first picture because the Epson Properties Panel is changed from the 2400, that is, I left Epson printer control on. Then in the Photoshop CS4 print menu, I selected "Photoshop Manages Color". The result was an over saturated print. I went back to the page setup menu and selected Mode Setup, Custom, Off. Now when I printed, my image looked like the monitor, or as close as I could get, given the inherent differences between subtractive color and additive color.I printed the exact same images on Epson Premium Glossy and Epson Premium Semi-matte on both my 2400 and 2880 printers. Most of the duplicate prints were indistinguishable to me, although there may have been just the slightest bit more snappiness to images that featured a lot of magenta, but it was certainly not anything noticeable. I showed nine people the duplicate images and most could not see any difference. Three people claimed they could see differences, but had no preferences between the prints.I also tried out the printers on a special stock I use for cards. This is a heavily textured paper, similar to matte paper. On the 2400, I set the Epson properties menu to "Premium Presentation Paper" and also the Photoshop print menu to Premium Presentation Paper. I used the photo black ink rather than the matte ink which resulted in a print that seemed to pop a little more than that using the matte black ink. The 2880 properties menu won't let you select this profile when photo black is installed. That shouldn't make a difference if you are having PS control the printing (I think) but it's my impression that the result is a sightly more subdued, though still quite lovely, picture. The difference may be due to the new profiles.The movement of the controls to the top of the 2880 printer is an inconvenience for me, since I keep the printer at almost eye level when I'm sitting down. I've also managed to turn the new printer on accidentally by brushing the top-mounted controls.The 2880 printer is also capable of printing on CDs and DVDs. I did not test this facility.The bottom line is that if you want a photo printer that prints papers up to 13 by 19 the Epson 2880 will not disappoint you. On the other hand, if you already have an Epson R2400 printer, unless your images usually have a large amount of magenta or you need to print on CDs or DVDs, you probably won't find a significant advantage in upgrading.

Love the print quality and speed of my new R2880, but finding ink cartridges is an issue. Although I live in a major metropolitan area (Tampa, Florida), I can only find one (1) local retailer (CompUSA) that sells replacement cartridges. None of the other usual outlets such as Office Depot, Staples, Best Buy or Walmart carry them. Another issue is that CompUSA only stocks one of each color at a time, so finding it in stock is another issue. I have no problem ordering ink online and have resorted to doing that on a regular basis, but occasionally run into an issue where I need to pick up a replacement immediately. This has been an issue lately, as I seem to have run into a defective batch of cartridges, that left me with no replacements. Epson was helpful and sent replacements for the defective cartridges, but they take two weeks to arrive. Like I said, the R2880 is a great printer, but make sure you can find ink for it.

You can buy ink from the Epson store too --- at similar prices. I think Amazon's stock turns over fast enough to get a FRESH cartridge giving you plenty of shelf life. If you DO have a problem, all Epson and they'll replace it - or - do it through Amazon. It's ink. It's Genuine Epson. It's expensive... but it is the good stuff. ...AND, if you are buying this type of cartridge you own a pro-level printer... so pro on!

If you think your images look good on a nice screen, wait until you print them using a decent printer like this (and good paper). Printing can be frustrating at times. I bought the printing program Qimage and it seems to work very well with the 2880. Definitely worth it. I print files in Adobe rgb but let the printer handle the color--seems to work best. The only reason I downgrade this printer is that the ink cartridges are a little too small. Get the 3000 and you should be set.

As a previous owner of an Epson R1800, I expected nothing short of extraordinary with the R2880. The R1800 met every need I had and produced quality prints with absolutely no hassles. Does the R2880 live up to the same standard?The R2880 is not a direct upgrade from R1800 (which was replaced with the R1900), so I will not compare the two in every aspect. However, as an amateur photographer I have gotten used to the prints that the R1800 produced. The R2880 is a very large printer and you should plan to have some workspace set aside for it. The footprint is about the same as the R1800. When fully expanded with the paper trays you will need almost an entire table for this printer.I have tested the printer with various print sizes (4x6, 5x7, 8x10, up to 13x19). Thus far, every print has been clean and crisp. The colors are well saturated and the tones are dead on. I enjoyed the gloss option that was on the R1800, but it's not a deal breaker. The colors were vibrant, but also impressive was the black and white prints. The detail and tones were amazing. I prefer the Epson Premium Luster Paper for most of my prints and the R2880 does an excellent job on that paper. I was truly impressed.The speed of prints was on par with similar models. I have not timed them, but it does have decent printing speed. By simple comparison, it might be a tick slower than my previous R1800. But again, I did not time them.The features that are included with the R2880 work out fairly well. I tend not to use the roll mechanism, but it is included. The CD printing tray works perfectly. I do wish they would include an ethernet connection on these models though. For this price range, I think it should be a default feature. USB works fine, but in this day and time an ethernet connection for any printer over $600 (or even $300 for that matter) should be assumed in my opinion.My complaints are fairly minor, but only time will tell if they get worse. First, is the price of the ink. The R2880 uses a smaller cartridge than my previous printers, yet, the price per cartridge remains the same. I realize the ink itself is different (and to their credit, seems to do a great job), but at my current rate this printer will likely cost me almost twice as much to operate. I'd recommend shopping around, as I've seen almost a 35% difference in cartridge price at different stores. No matter what you do, be sure to keep extra ink cartridges around. The size of these cartridges relegates their printing capacity in a major way. After my initial test prints, my ink levels were showing about 50%.My second complaint is somewhat related to ink. There are times during the start of a print job (my printer is already on, but I haven't used it in days) that it will take almost a minute to begin printing. It appears that it is going through a cleaning or preparation procedure (usually done only when you turn the printer on or off). I'm not sure if any ink is being used, but my major complaint is the time. I should not have to wait for a simple word processing document to print out.My third and final complaint is the fact that I have to swap out the photo and matte black ink cartridges. I'm not entirely sure why Epson chose to do this, but I was really disappointed. This is an expensive printer and outperforms its competition in so many ways, but they couldn't include a slot for both cartridges? Seems strange.At the end of the day, I do highly recommend the R2880. The prints are fantastic! While the printer does have some pitfalls, it does do one thing very well: create outstanding photo prints. I would hesitate recommending that a person upgrade from an Epson R1800, R1900, R2400 or similar model. It would be difficult to justify the costs. However, if you are in a market for a new large format photo printer, this should be one of your choices.

Available downloadable ICC profilesThoughts:The Epson R2880 Large Format Photo Printer is big and bulky as you would expect for a large format printer. First and foremost make sure you have the space on your table for it. Don't take for granted simply measuring the width of the printer, but the span from rear to front once it has been fully assembled with the paper lids down.I was excited to have a chance to come back to Epson printers after a long hiatus in using an HP photo printer. My surprise is that there seems to be a lot of compromises I wouldn't expect at this price level.- Granted the printer has been advertised to produce excellent grey balance and tonal range, but you are left having to decide which black ink printer cartridge to install. Epson has introduced 9 colour cartridges for this printer, but only 8 can be loaded at one time. The obvious side of this is that as a semi-pro photographer you should be able to know if you want to install Photo Black or Matte Black to match the paper media. But then as an artist, how about not being able to be limited to one type at any given time. This way we do not have to waste ink from the charging process.- Oh and did I mention that each ink cartridge is of relatively capacity. For a large format printer, this is something that's not logical to me on how a manufacturer can afford this mistake. Or at least give us an option to install a larger ink capacity that my USD50.00 printer is even capable of handling.- As I mentioned earlier, the printer is able to accept various paper types. Unless you're using the usual plain or photo single sheet paper, you'll have to have the manual by your side in order to successfully insert the paper or roll without creating a jam. I would love to tell the printer what type of paper I'm using at the drop-down box, but can't it do the rest from that point. For example even the simple task of printing a CD/DVD is not so simple. You're not only going to have to remove any loaded paper, but remove the single sheet guide, then close the paper support, make sure the output tray is open but don't pull out the extensions, open the front manual feed slot and slide the edge guide left. At this point you can now insert the CD/DVD tray. Now after having done that, make sure to put the settings back when going back to paper mode. I'm not asking for a fully automated process, but we all know that all printers can be offered cheap because part of the long-term expense is patronizing the ridiculously expensive ink cartridges. So it wouldn't hurt to give us a more thoughtfully designed process so we can keep this for a longer period of time and then keep on buying inks from you guys especially at this printer's price point.WOULD I BUY IT? If I were to be printing one, two or three types of paper media for all my photographic printing needs, I wouldn't mind investing in this printer especially at the offered rebate price. If you're a small business owner looking for an all-in-one photo printer that prints photos, cards and CD/DVD I would wait or purchase a second printer for that need.For the printing quality, I definitely give it five (5) stars.For the price versus the features and convenience in accessing those features, it only deserves three (3) stars.Hopefully the next revision will trump all the limitations of this current model.

I had the previous Epson photo printer and it was excellent, it worked well and consistently. This printer is the reverse. It never works and when it does it takes forever to get the color right, by which time you've run out of ink in one of the cartridges. Try something else...

This T096920cartridge appeared to have been pre-used. It worked for less than one or two printings. I have never had this type of epson product with the problem before. It was defective and a waste of money. I bought other cartridges from a different supplier at $13.99 that worked fine.

Ive never had to print so many test runs on a printer an had to adjust my screen so dramatically before to get the correct color printout. The color mismatch is the worst Ive ever seen.The printer isself has performed excellent, but it does have more ripples than the COSTCO laserjet printer.

I upgraded to the 2880 printer late last year and I can see the difference in the quality of prints I am getting with this printer. The ink makes it possible to print the nuances in each photo. Once your printer is set properly, you can recreate what you have on screen to the page whatever size you are printing. I am extremely pleased with the image quality I am getting with the 2880 and the inks available for this product.

I've been something of a Canon devotee for the past six years or so, and haven't really considered an Epson printer since the Stylus 740. This printer has made me re-think my loyalties.Right off the bat, the print quality and speed are incredible. Most of my prints were generated using full-res RAW images from a Canon Digital Rebel XSi 12.2 MP Digital SLR in Apple Aperture 2.1.1, so keep that in consideration. I saw no pixelation or dithering in my prints, but your experience will vary, depending on the camera you're using and how you process your images.So far, I've run generic 8 1/2 x 11 photo paper, Canon Photo Paper Plus Glossy II, 4 x 6 paper, Epson 4X6 Glossy Ultra Premium Photo Paper, Epson Ultra Premium Matte 8 1/2 x 11 Inch Presentation Paper, and plain old 8 1/2 x 11 copy paper. All of the photo paper came out great, and much to my surprise, there wasn't a huge variance in quality between the different photo papers, despite changing media settings. So my conclusion here is that this isn't one of those printers where you can only get good quality by buying the manufacturer's "special optimized" paper."Why only four stars?" you ask?1) It's been said time and time again, and I'm going to pile on, too. Having to swap between Photo Black and Matte Black cartridges is ridiculous. This printer is a desk monster, and there's certainly room in the print head for one more reservoir.2) There's a lot of trial and error in getting your prints to look like your images. Using the default settings, the prints are overly vibrant, making colors look unrealistic and overprocessed. I haven't used this printer with Windows yet, but I can tell you on the Mac side, you really need to get yourself acquainted with the driver, and it wouldn't hurt to know a thing or two about color profiles. On one hand, that can be seen as a good thing, given the flexibility you're offered, but on the other hand, if you're not familiar with production concepts, this printer could infuriate you.3) The ink cartridges are fairly expensive (about $17 each) and rather small. Yes, the manual says you're going to burn through your first set of cartridges quickly... but we're talking REALLY quick here. After two 8 1/2 x 11" prints and about ten 4 x 6" prints, almost all of my cartridges were showing 50% capacity. You may want to consider buying additional cartridges up front -- which adds nearly $150 to the price tag.All things considered, this is a great choice if you're running a small business and want professional quality brochures and presentation material, or if you're a photographer and want to print out proofs. But if you're looking to save money over Snapfish / Shutterfly / etc. by printing your own pictures, you might want to explore other options.

I was eager to see how the Epson Stylus Photo R2880 compared to my trusty old Epson Stylus Photo R800 Inkjet Printer which is still a great printer and was Epson's first true photo-quality printer. The first thing that I noticed was the R2880's size and design. When the doors are opened up for printing, the printer takes up considerable real estate, but when closed up it really doesn't seem that big. The build quality is top-notch and the styling is sleek and solid-looking.There are 2 USB ports on the rear of the printer which allow the connection of 2 computers at the same time. Not exactly a network-ready solution, but it works well for me. There's a PictBridge port on the front of the printer, but given the cost of the consumables for this type of printer, I can't really see anyone printing their photos directly from their camera without at least previewing them.Setup was very easy using the supplied software wizards. I took the time to allow the software to install the proper drivers, and the printer was ready to roll (after installing the ink cartridges too). I noticed that the size of the cartridges for the R2880 were actually a smaller capacity than my R800. This was a bit disappointing since the cartridges for the 2 printers are about the same price.My first color prints were absolutely stunning, right out of the box. I printed on both glossy and matte paper and was totally impressed with the quality which easily surpassed that of the R800. It's disappointing, however, that you have to swap out the Photo Black with the Matte Black cartridge when switching between Glossy and Matte paper. I printed B&W and Sepia photos using the Advanced BW printing mode and had great results each time.Overall, the Epson Stylus Photo R2880 has all of the features I need in a color photo inkjet printer and I would recommend it to anyone desiring a quality printer. There are some reviewers who have complained about the amount of ink that this printer uses, but if you look at the reviews here on Amazon for comparable printers from HP and Canon, you'll find that there are an equal amount of complaints about their ink usage too. The bottom line here is that you are paying for the ability to manipulate and control the output of your photos. There are many cheaper ways to have your photos printed, but always with a sacrifice in color quality.Here's a summary of my review. The cons are really pretty minor issues that are vastly overshadowed by the pros, so I gave this printer 5 stars. In order to keep the inks from drying up, you need to use this printer at least once a week. I've had to perform all types of maintenance on the printer to keep it going, and sometimes I think that, despite the excellent quality of the prints, it might be worth the hassle, the timesuckage, and the per page expense of using the printer at school rather than having it conveniently at home, all to myself, (theoretically) at a less expensive price.

Working with this printer is a purgatorial experience and feels something like one of the levels of torment in Hell from Dante's Inferno.The printer will fail you, and after it does, dealing with Epson customer support is like trying to negotiate with the SS.Please, whatever you do, PLEASE DO NOT buy this printer. Stop now, turn back. This way lieth destruction.I would rather eat my hands than buy another Epson.

I ordered my Epson R2880 about a month ago from Amazon, as a replacement for my trusty old Epson 2000P which was about seven years old. My new printer arrived very promptly a few days later. The Vista software installation went smoothly except for the fact that a couple of the amber "ink-empty" lights did not work properly, one never came on and one was flickering, like on and off. (These little lights are located in the ink well, they all (should) come "on" upon printer startup, then go "off", one by one, as each ink cartridge is inserted into the well.) The first couple of prints I made were not good, but I soon discovered that with this printer use only Epson paper and be sure to select the particular type of paper on the screen before commencing printing. I then printed several color and B/W sample prints, examined them under a loupe, and I must say they were great. I was impressed with the quality.Everything seems to run smoothly for the first week or so, although I noticed that the printer had a tendency to perform prolonged nozzle cleaning sessions. One session lasted between 6 and 7 minutes. That's when I started to look at the ink levels charts. This printer is really using the ink I thought. I then noticed large random dots, about 3mm in diameter on some of my prints, sometimes only an hour after a new start-up nozzle cleaning session. My last printing endeavor on this printer - just following a nozzle cleaning session - were eight 4x4" images where these dots showed up on five prints, some were in the margins and some right on the image itself.Calling Epson was quite an experience. The person told me to simply do a nozzle clean. I told him I had just done nozzle cleans, but he insisted and I did it. The first print out had the famous 3mm dots on the paper and the print. Do the nozzle clean again, he said. At this point I confronted him with the question of how much ink a nozzle clean required because my ink indicators showed a decrease in ink level of about 15% with each cleaning. He had no answer to that, or to any of my other questions, including the amber light question.I was now out of ink and had a lot of unwanted dots on many of the prints I had made. At this point I knew I would never feel comfortable using a set of inks priced at about $125. and only wind up with a handful of usable images. I returned the printer as I was still within the 30 days grace period.One last observation: It appears to me, after reading other reviews, that the ink/nozzle picotechnology is perhaps behind the curve of where it ought to be. In the quest for smaller and smaller picoliter dots, perhaps a different nozzle cleaning technology is required. At least, upscale future printers like this R2880 should have the ability to just clean one (1) color nozzle at a time, as user required, instead of necessarily cleaning all eight colors at a cost I figure to be about $18. to $20. per cleaning session.Tage Blytmann

I've been making due with an older Epson Photo EX...can't believe how much the technology has improved since then. The printer is easy to operate, and colors are nothing short of amazing...fine, detailed prints like nothing I've ever been able to produce.Drawbacks are probably what others mention...the matte black/photo black swapping thing is just silly, the ink cartridges are too small, at highest quality settings the printer's a bit slow, no built-in network interface, and the printer's physically a little on the large size.Still, for me it's all about the final image quality - and nothing I've seen tops the Epson in this regard.UPDATE:Okay, so I've been living with my R2880 for about sixteen months now, and I wanted to refute some of the claims other reviewers have made. Perhaps I'm just one of the lucky ones, but my experience with the R2880 has been nothing short of fantastic.I've printed well over 2000 prints and gone through dozens of ink cartridges by now, and I'm happy to say that I haven't experienced EVEN A SINGLE JAM, MIS-FEED or other operational problem. I tend to use Epson's Ultra-Premium Luster for 8x10 size prints, Epson Velvet or Exhibition Fiber in 13x19 - and a few non-Epson brands including Museo, Ilford Silk and a few others. I've done a bit with canvas (both sheets and roll), though that's relatively rare for me. The short story is that everything I've tried has worked properly. Overall, I couldn't be happier with my printer.I do use my printer fairly regularly - always at least once or twice a week, usually more. As of now, except for the cycle when I install a new ink cartridge or initially power it on, I've never seen it waste ink on a cleaning cycle, nor have I ever had to manually trigger cleaning. My volume is high enough that I deal with the ink-swapping sillyness by simply waiting until I have enough material that I can use an entire print cartridge (about 50 prints, generally). I make the switch, print till I run out of matte ink, and then I switch back. This works for me, and doesn't waste any ink.My initial comment regarding the ink cartridges being too small is probably my number one gripe. Because the various color inks are used at different rates according to the tones in your photographs, it's not like you stop every so often and replace all the ink. You print, replace one color, print some more, replace the next one, and so on. I just find this slows me down unacceptably, and I'd like the option to have maybe 3-5 times more ink per cartridge.Print quality continues to be amazing...the only other printer I've seen that beats it is Epson's newer 7900 - a much larger printer that costs five times what the R2880 sells for. Yes, I'm a perfectionist with top quality gear, all the best software, calibration equipment, and I spend a lot of time fine tuning everything to get the best possible image quality. But I feel I've been rewarded for this work, and everyone who sees my prints comments as to the quality.

I've had my R2880 for about six months now and have put it through its paces. I can't say enough about this printer. The print quality is outstanding...far better than any commercial print I've ever purchased. And that's not just color. B&W is fantastic...deep, rich blacks all the way through the gamut. The fact that I can now produce large (up to 13 x 19, though I generally stay with A3, or 12 x 16, paper) versions of my photographs with such startling results has me in a printing, matting, and framing frenzy!Admittedly, the ink is expensive. Each set of 8 cartridges runs about $110, but I consider it very worthwhile. Additionally, the Epson software (I'm using it with a Macintosh) makes it spectacularly easy to order new cartridges from Epson. If you order more than three colors, Epson ships them overnight or two day for free! The only problem I've had with the R2880 is trying to print on Epson's Velvet Fine Art Paper. The few prints I tried on it bled. I haven't tried to troubleshoot this with Epson, as I've fallen in love with their Ultra Premium Photo Paper Luster and do nearly all of my printing on that paper.I can't recommend this printer too highly. I've you're a serious photographer, you need this printer. I haven't used one, but I'd imagine the R3880, which is even larger format, prints similarly but for about $400 more. 13 x 19 is plenty large enough for me right now.

I have been looking for an inkjet printer that could make both color and black and white prints that would showcase my panoramic photography. The Epson Stylus 2880 was an incredible find for me. It is very reasonable and its K3 inks are archival. I had my doubts that a printer under a thousand dollars could produce the kind of prints I was used to. I was surprised and extremely pleased with the results. For a panoramic photographer the 13inch wide format was perfect. I could make my prints at home up to 47" allowing me to produce museum quality prints without going to high-end labs. I have shot with the Linhoff Technorama and Fuji G617 for decades. Printing in the wet lab on Oriental Seagull with filtration on a cold light had been my hallmark for many years. When I made the transition to digital printing it took me quite a while to adjust to the new format. However I have found that good scans (I use an Epson V750 pro which allows me to use oil scans which I find superior and cleaner in terms of dust and flatness) I was able to produce very large prints at a fraction of the cost and with impeccable consistent results. In truth getting the first print is always harder than working with chemistry but the subsequent prints are almost effortless. I tried the Epson first with the glossy prints and after calibrating my monitor and making sure my paper profiles were correct, I made my first print and was stunned by the results. It was every bit as good as the 9880 which I had just used at a lab but I was not expecting such good results. The printer was easy to set up and use. The prints looked professional. Next I tackled my B&W panoramas on the roll paper. I used Epson ultra smooth matte and after using the correct profile printed a stunning 13x38 panorama on my first try. I admit cutting the print required care but the final result was truly superb. I would recommend and even urge panoramic photographers to use this printer as you will be very happy with the results and it will save you a ton of money. Finally a printer with archival inks and a roll feeder at a reasonable price that is easy to use and delivers great results has arrived. In addition those digital photographers who do panoramic stitching should seriously consider this printer as the 13 wide format allows you to print images up to 13x47 in an archival print. It's been a long time coming but the wait was worth it. My compliments and kudos to the engineers at Epson who remembered the artists who do panoramic prints.

I had an Epson 2200. I loved it. I upgraded to this. I hate it in every way.You have to swap out the ink from matte to glossy if you change paper types. It insists you do. There is no way around it (There was on the 2200). This means that every time I print on a DVD, I have to switch the ink. To do so, the printer primes itself and literally takes 7-10% of the ink to do it. Then to switch it back there goes another 7%. I have gone through so much ink I can hardly stand to look at it.Sorry Epson, but the jig is up. This swapping ink system is a scam.Just for kicks, here is the final straw that triggered this review:I had just printed a glossy b&W print. Then I needed to print a CD so I switched out the photo-black to the matte-black like a little monkey. As the printer primed the inks, it literally ran itself out the last 10% of both magenta and light cyan. Now I can't print. I have to go to the store and buy more colored ink. Of course this is NUTS since I was only doing black and white prints.Yuck.

This is the first time I have ever felt compelled to write a review and postit online. I just received my Epson R2880 and I cannot say enough goodthings about it.The set up was a breeze! I followed the directions in the quick startguide, installed the drivers from the CD enclosed with the printer and wentto Epson's site to get the latest ICC profiles.Within thirty minutes I had my first print in hand. WOW! Simplyoutstanding! Epson?s claim that the R2880 provides "Exhibition QualityPrints" is spot on in my book.The funny thing is, I have a brand new color printer, and the first print Imade was black and white. It brought me back to being a kid in thedarkroom, when I made my first black and white print. (The ones that havehad the experience of seeing a print come to life in developer for the firsttime, know what I?m talking about). Well, it was just like that experiencewith my new Epson R2880.The bad thing about that, is now I want to run out and buy a scanner for allthose black and white negatives that I have tucked away in the archive. Mostlikely an Epson V750.The other thing I like about this printer is the ability to use the rollpaper attachment that came in the box with the printer. I installed it justafter pulling the printer out of the box. Now, I can print either a 13" x44" or 8.5" x 44" for either panoramic or gang printing. In addition, youhave the option to print 13" x 19" on 1.3mm thick media and Canvas. Icannot wait to play with that.What about color prints? Thanks for asking.The palette of colors seems to be real broad. The skin tones seem to bespot on and the bright colorful images simply popped! Hey, after all youhave 8 cartridges of Epson?s UltraChrome K3 ink going to that media.That brings me to the ink issue you might have read about in other reviews.All I can say is you get what you pay for! The Epson R2880 is worth it forthe results you will have for a lifetime.The foot print is not small, but you sure do get a lot packed in to its24.3" (W) x 31.4" (D) x 16.3" (H) size.I am hooked on this Epson R2880 printer. So much so, I signed up for anupcoming Epson Print Academy to get that much more out of my Epson R2880.Just go get one and you will see what I mean.Enjoy the prints of a lifetime!

I ordered the 2880 when my Epson 1800 started sending out "End of Life" messages. (The "End of Life" messages meant I needed new ink pads, which I had installed for under $100-and the 1800 is like new again. I now use it just for experimental photography on non-photography and hand cast paper that I apply digital ground to).I re-printed a couple images that I had already printed on my 1800, and noticed an improved red, and all over saturation improvement. I'm an artist who also does photography, experimental printing, and who uses photo-references for hyper-realist work. I need color accuracy, and got it instantly by using the printer's optional Adobe RGB setting with Photoshop. This machine plus a kick ass Canon SLR camera are able to do anything I demand. I've only had the machine for less than a month, and am pleased. I just need to find out if anyone locally stocks the ink jet cartriges. I know I can order them from Epson direct/no shipping charge, though.

My Epson printers including the 2200 were nothing but a complete waste of money!!As of this date and on, I will avoid Epson printers with resolve!!!

After the ease of delivery and set-up and the much anticipated use of this "amazing" professional photo printer my husband and I were terribly disappointed. We have a $100 canon printer that prints no better than this printer. The quality was not at all what we had hoped with the price of this printer. Yes, it can print poster size and yes it can print on cds...all very cool, but the foundational point---quality of printing pictures---was absent. The prints, no matter the size, were flat and obviously printed from a home computer. I even purchased high quality printing paper.It wasn't fast, if that's important to you and it's just a giant printer in our house now we will probably rarely use. Again, the fact that it's versatile in size printing is neat, but I would be using it mainly for 4x6-8x10 printing and printing on cds.

ink jets have always been a cash cow for printer companiesthey often seem specifically designed to waste high priced ink cartridgesthis kind of engineering we do not need, but is what we get here, big timeearly in the era, about twenty years ago, third party companies would refill ink cartridges for prices under manufacturer's prices. Some religious communities kept afloat with this scheme.Epson has defeated this third party service now with this useless tank, which recognizes when its name brand cartridge is not in place. In fact it is so ethnically pure it sometimes refuses, inexplicably and without appeal even to customer service, to accept its own cartridges fresh out of the boxand then, when it does accept a set of its own high priced ink cartridges, it inexplicalby and without recourse wastes all of that ink on some obsessive-compulsive ink jet cleaning.this ink jet printer may look cute and may now and then put out a product, just often enough to torment you and keep you on the hook, but faggedaboudid, it ain't worth it, when you could be passing out 4x6's from your Canon SELPHY CP770 Compact Photo Printer (3058B001) in no time at all and to the delight of allbut we wouldn't want to make anyone happy with our photos, would we?forget the Epson unless you have endless patience and an endless account for ink cartridges. It's like getting a top supermodel as trophy wife, and then realizing the high maintenance.It's like getting the keys to a super Hummer and then charged all you got for a pint of fuel. over and over again.And then those large format photo sheets jam. Forget it. Have fun with your art instead of sacrficially appeasing an implacable and vengeful printer god. The purpose of art is peace, not feeding the endless Epson maw.but I do love mine and use it all of the time. great photo printeruse it for exhibitions etc.

Another great printer from Epson. ever since their first true photo printers came out around 2002, they have been industry leaders - particularly for the "prosumer" market (forgive me, I hate portmanteaus like that, but it fits). This printer is no exception and handles media from CDs up to 13x19" sheets. The color reproduction is pretty flawless and the ink use seems to be reasonable.Okay, now my wish list: First, Epson does not produce enhanced matte paper in a 13" roll, but the printer can handle roll paper(?!) what's up with this? The Enhanced Matte (now under the cumbersome moniker of "Ultra Premium Presentation Paper Matte") is their best stock for image reproduction. Second, and this is understandable, they do not make it easy to use second party ICC profiles thus expanding your range of usable paper stock. For a fine art photographic printer, this becomes very limiting. Finally, their printing software for printable CDs is a little basic. As a result you get little color control and so the quality (and no one should expect this really) isn't as good as on their paper. I should say, however, that it is adequate and I love this feature. I will be upgrading to a 7880 this fall and will miss that capacity.

The Epson Stylus R2880 produces excellent prints. The archival quality is important to me, and the colors are brilliant. Most prints came out virtually the same as my monitor; every so often I have to tweak a file. I made no adjustments to get perfect black and white prints with no color casts; rich blacks and a nice tonal range. It prints beautiful portraits.If this will be your home computer, make sure you have a decent-sized place to set it up. It's very sleek looking and closes up to keep dust out. It's about 2 ft wide, but is compact for a printer that produces up to 13" x 19" prints.The set up was easy, and it's easy to use. Make sure you read all of the directions. It's sensitive to each kind of paper and where it's loaded. I'm working on Windows Vista. I just checked for the latest drivers. Also, it doesn't come with a printer cable, so purchase one separately if you don't have an extra.I use the printer for color proofing book and poster designs and making high-quality prints. To get the promise of quality, only Epson products should be used which means no bargain shopping. I like the Ultra Premium Photo Luster paper.Also the difference in using the quality versus max quality print settings is hardly noticeable if you want to save ink. However, I will always use max quality for my final product. I've only printed on 8 ? x 11 so far, but I'm looking forward to printing on roll and larger paper. I can't wait to try out some of the features such as printing images on my DVDs. From start up to printing the "quick start" guide was clear and concise with a step by step approach that did not leave this novice confused. Frankly, what has kept me from printing photos in the past has been a fear of technical language beyond my vocabulary. But the instructions given here left nothing to chance or misunderstanding. Loading the ink, the paper, connecting to my MacBook Pro and printing the first photos was easy and did not take a lot of time. From box to print took about 45 minutes and that was after checking everything twice.So far, color family photos, a couple of scenics and several black and white photos have gone through the machine with fantastic results. The color on the print very well matches what I see on the screen. And black and white photos come out even better. They are fantastic. After showing my wife the same photo in color and black and white, she preferred the black and white, but it was a hard choice for her to make.I am only beginning to explore the capabilities of this printer and I know that in the hands of someone more experienced this machine would put out awesome photographs. I would highly recommend the Epson Stylus R2880 to anyone who wishes to have more control over their printing. Its ease of use and quality photos will spoil even the most critical user.

Long story short, the quality of this printer is simply stunning. (Am giving it four stars because the quality is literally amazing.)However, I wanted to use Moab canvas, and found out later the ICC profiles were not available for the R1900. I moved on to Epson paper with the Epson profiles and viola! perfect images.The buttons are less than intuitive, and the you have to be careful to cut rolls of paper perfectly straight or else canvas will not load. (Frustrating.) The thing sucks ink like crazy, but I suppose I print on it more than the normal person too. I use the printer for jobs where I need a print immediately. It costs more than my pro lab, but the quality is exceptional.All that said, would I buy the printer and go through all that again? Yes. The images are KILLER.

In my opinion, a large format printer is mostly for the large-format printing photographer who doesn't contract out for printing services. With all the printing services available, its hard to justify the cost of this printer. However, it can produce stunning photos of large sizes. It serves it purpose well, but its an expensive printer compounded by the costs of catridge replacment.Epson is touting its new Vivid Magenta and Vivid Light Magenta inks, which look to satisfy those who want heavily saturated prints. I like to oversaturate in Aperture for the extra punch, so this works for me. The dual-black (matte and photo) support is nice (but requires swapping) and this printer can print directly to CDs or DVDs.As always, ink is a major cost here. The cartridges are small for printing such a large format. Plus there seem to be alot of reports on the web about running out of ink really fast. The culprit seems to be because owners are leaving the printer on for exteneded periods of time. I had this problem on my Artisan 800, whose catridges lasted only about two weeks with minimal printing. I don't leave this one on.This printer produces stunning prints, but you must understand the costs (both up front and recurring) before you make a decision.

I bought this printer mainly because of additional feature of the CD/DVD direct printing, as my Epson R2400 does not have this capability. After completion of installation of the software, ink, etc., the printer went into what seemed like an extended cleaning mode. After printing one 7x5 image, the printed showed the photo black ink approximately one-quarter left. The rest of the ink levels had dropped to almost one-half level. Two days later, I turned on the printer and the printer seemed to kick into another cleaning cycle, and an extended one at that! After the printer was in the cleaning cycle for approximately four minutes, I noticed the printer icon bouncing in the dock at the bottom of the computer screen. When I opened the software, it showed me that the photo black ink was completely consumed and the printer wanted it replaced. I replaced the photo black ink and after approximately two more minutes of printer moving the head left and right, I was able to print. After printing a grand total of eight 7x5 images, the rest of the inks were totally out! At this point, I made arrangements to have the printer replaced. Well, I got the new printer and unfortunately, it has behaved the same as the first one. The only difference being that all of the inks went down almost even as opposed to the photo black ink going down first. After a total of two print sessions, all of the inks were consumed by the printer. For the whole set of inks, I managed to print ONLY TWO 2.5 inch x 1.4 inch size images! Actually, I had to replace the light light black ink along the way. I searched the internet and found no complaints with this device. I have no idea what is going on. All I can say is that this is not the case of user error as I have been using inkjet printers for a while (Canon S800, Epson 1270, Epson 2200, and Epson 2400).

Fantastic quality for my demanding needs as a graphic designer and artist. I could not be happier with the print quality.The only issue with the 2880 is the same that plagued the 2200 it replaced. Feeding a stack of Epson Double Sided Matted Paper (S041568) always causes alignment problems, whether it is five or fifty sheets. I produce a double sided catalog and I have to feed each sheet individually or the pages will not line up front and back.Otherwise a wonderful purchase!

Do not buy direct from Epson. I bought the Epson R1900 for $[...] with a $[...] rebate. Two months passed, three months, four months... Finally I sent them a letter, "Where is my rebate?""You forgot to put the serial number in your application. But if you do it now and send the materials to us within 30 days, you'll get the rebate."I did that. Result: another letter."We cannot give you a rebate at this time. Refer to the terms and conditions on the mail-in form."20-20 hindsight: Why did they wait so long to warn me about the lack of the serial number on the application? To let the rebate period expire? You said it, I didn't.I find it amazing that a company of this size would antagonize its own customers and risk bad word of mouth, for the sake of $[...]. But that is what happened.Do not buy direct from Epson.

This product has been really disappointing. We have had it for over a year, and at the beginning it was great. Photos looked really nice, colors were bright, etc. But after just a few photos, it started to print really streaky pictures...so you run the auto headcleaning utility and waste a quarter of the ink just to clean the printheads. Then it works for a few more pictures and becomes streaky again. Additionally, if you are just printing something that isn't a photo, only the expensive paper will load. It gives an error message for any other thin stock paper. So basically, if you spend a lot of money on paper and ink, you will get nice photos some of the time, but you will end up wasting half of the expensive ink cleaning the printheads. I would not recommend that anyone buy this printer.

I have owned this printer for only a few days. In that time I have printed over 200 prints. I have printed both 8.5 by 11 and 13 by 19 inch prints without any difficulty. I have also replaced the ink cartridges without any problem. I have not had any contact with epson's tech support because I have not had any problems.Now for the printer itself. The build quality is solid. Setup was simple and I was printing prints within a few minutes of connecting the printer to my mac.I am using this printer in conjunction with a macintosh computer and photoshop elements. I tried other programs (iphoto) but elements gave me the truest reproduction of what I saw on my screen. This printer prints color accurately but it prints slightly darker than what you see on your screen. In other words the printer provides an accurate but dark copy of what you see on your screen when you print. The difference is slight but noticeable. Black and White printing is accurate and there is no color cast.The only caveat that I can offer is that the printer drinks ink. I have been printing a lot at best quality and I have gone through a number of ink cartridges. Vivid light magenta in particular disappears quickly. I am very happy with this printer after a few days of extensive use. If a problem crops up after a longer period of time I will amend my review. Otherwise I am marking this printer as a five star product and giving a wholehearted buy recommendation

I have had my printer for over 2 years, and I think I have cleaned the heads only once or twice. If you use the printer on a regular basis, not even that often, maybe once a month, you should never have a problem. The only legitimate reports I have heard of clogged heads are if you use cheap ink. But, why buy a $500 printer and use cheap ink? I have printed on almost every sized paper, including rolls and have always got GREAT prints.

We received the printer in good order. When it was time to print the trouble started. I bought Epson brand paper with the printer. I put the paper in the single paper feed slot and it wouldn't work. I called Technical Support not 15 minutes after I opened the box. We went through the process several times with the same result. It wouldn't feed through the single sheet feeder. He finally suggested I use the multiple sheet feeder and it worked. The quality of print is excellent. If not for the feed problem I would give this review 5 stars.

I am an artist who creates giclee prints of my paintings, and used an Epson Stylus Photo 2200 for six years. It was a reliable printer which gave me high quality prints. The Epson Stylus Photo 2200 worked great from day one, and I never had to speak with an Epson tech.I purchased the Epson Stylus Photo R2880 as a replacement printer. It would not print 13" x 19" paper. I kept getting paper jams and error messages stating I was using the wrong media for the paper tray. I spent hours on the phone with Epson techs, who finally told me the printer had a defective paper sensor.I returned the first Epson Stylus Photo R2880 and purchased a second printer. The second Epson Stylus Photo R2880 not only had the same problems, but it also gave me communication errors. I spent another hour on the phone with an Epson tech who refused to call me back as my calling card ran out of minutes.In my opinion Epson has inadequate service techs, poor customer service, and a poor quality product in the Epson Stylus Photo R2880. I believe this printer was never tested in a rush to get it to market. The only reason it even deserves one star is because it prints 8.5" x 11" sheets. Because my need is for a printer that prints 13" x 19" sheets, I cannot recommend this printer.PS. Does anybody know where I can get a refurbished Epson Stylus Photo 2200?

I've only had this printer set up for a few weeks, however out of thebox- this printer rocks. This is the 4th Epson printer I've owned andthe first thing that I noticed was how FAST this printer is and howrich the colors are. This you can see immediately. I pulledportfolio prints from files in my archive that had been printed onvarious printers (Epson R200, 9500, and Canon ip4300). At firstglance, all the prints created on the 2880 looked sharper, cleaner,and more color brilliant. Though I don't print B&W for clients andonly onoccasion for myself, I was amazed how nice the tonality of the B&Wwas. All my printing with the 2880 was done on Epson PremiumLuster. I like this paper. I haven't found any downsides to thisprinter and paper combination. Truly a great combo.

Just made my first few prints with the Epson 2880 - the sharpness and color saturation is quite amazing. I have been printing with Epson printers for better than twelve years and this printer is the fastest, sharpest and richest color printer I have seen.Printing in 16 bit color mode the Epson profiles for Premium Lustre paper is remarkably accurate - no need for a custom calibrator to create a specific profile. The printer's sharpness is what really makes this printer a bargain. For prints up to 13 x 19 you can make photographic prints that will rival the best service bureau.In Black and White Advanced mode the printer's ability to render an accurate and extremely smooth tonality will make this a wonderful printer for those who still prefer the classical esthetic of B&W.

I bought the Epson R2880 printer two months ago and have changed cartridges successfully. My replacement cartridges came directly from Epson's on-line store. Yesterday I changed a cartridge and received an error message, "Ink cartridges cannot be recognized".I tried to fix the problem by turning the printer off and on. I then tried to joggle the cartridge. Failing to do any good, I made a web search on the error message + Epson and was amazed to find that this has been a problem with Epson printers for years. To date, neither the Epson site or the general web lists a decent fix. Many posts refer to the Epson help desk "advice" that off-brand cartridges are the issue, and that genuine Epson cartridges are the fix. I used only Epson cartridges from the Epson on-line store. Unfortunately, Epson and the web have no other suggestions to get my printer going again. It appears that Epson is blaming everyone but themselves for the problem. Maybe the bulk of the problems are associated with off-brand cartridges, but that is no excuse for not investigating the problems that the rest of us are having and providing us with a fix.It is amazing to me that a multi-year Epson problem remains unfixed on this newly released printer.

I have been a professional photographer for little over a year now. My first experience into the world of inkjet printing involved the Epson 2200. It was an overall good experience but it left me always wanting more out of the quality of my black and whites and the efficiency of my printing.So far, I have been very pleased with the R2880. My b/w photos have drastically increased in image quality and tonal range (grey ink) and the speed of the printing is amazing.(less than a minute for a 5x7) I was a little skeptical of the cd/dvd printing capabilities and how much of a process it would entail. It's actually very painless with the included software I feel much better about the presentation of my discs. I'm looking forward to experimenting with different papers and analyzing how much more efficient this inkjet can be.

Великолепно
This is the highest capability printer I have bought, as I increase my photographic skills. I like the color output as well as the results w/ black and white. Being able to produce 13" x 19" prints with professional results is what I wanted and this printer delivers.
