Product arrived safely and within 7 days through standard shippingI wanted to buy Apple's 27" Cinema Display but found out that I would need a new graphics card for my 2008 MAC PRO - quite ridiculous. So, after some research I decided to give Dell (PC world - oops...) a try. This was one of the only monitors that has the 2560 pixel resolution and has a similar price point.I mostly use it for my music apps (I'm a pro musician and work 12 hours in front of my computer).I had a 20" ACD and I feels that I doubled the monitor size after switching to the 27".2560 is totally worth the extra money. Yes - you could probably buy 2x23" monitor for the same price, but I preferred to have one giant monitor that will get all my attention as opposed to always tilting my head towards one of the 2 monitors.Text is sharp - but not ULTRA sharp as the name suggests. Apple probably has the edge when it comes to crisp text and contrast. Can't beat it in my opinion.Antiglare display might be liked by some and disliked by many pros who just can't stand nasty reflections coming from across the room. Coming from an antiglare 20" ACD, I found the coating alright. There is absolutely no gloss. Maybe that's why Apple's display is a tad crisper. The anti-glare coating might make the text a tad more blurry. But again- I've work with it for one week now, 12 hours a day and it is fine.Connectivity is great. DVI, HDMI, VGA, 4 USB ports and a card reader.Monitor stand is sturdy made of metal (not like Samsung's cheap plastic) - and compared to Apple it is height adjustable and you can rotate it left and right as well... all GREAT!No drivers needed, no extra cables needed. Works right out of the box.Highly recommended.

With all the rave review over this Monitor I was expecting to be at least slightly wowed over my new display. I plugged it in and was... disappointed. Nothing is wrong with this Monitor but for the price it simply does not deliver. The display did not look any better than a Dell Monitor I bought in 2006. The color was ever so slightly better comparing them side by side but that's about it. On top of that the resolution is just simply too small. I don't have any problem with my eyes but damn; I can't lean back in my chair and read anything without being annoyed at the super small text.If this Monitor was $400 or below I would say go for it. At $850 plus I feel like I got ripped off.

This monitor is pretty good, looks wonderful and has plenty of options. I would have given it 4 or 5 stars if not for this issue.If you have a laptop you are out of luck. The full resolution of this monitor (2560x1440) only works with DVI (dual DVI actually) which I haven't seen in any laptop. Reasonably enough VGA cable cannot output such a hi resolution, but HDMI certainly can, and it is just the stupid driver that refuses to do this. I am not makign this up, it is in the dell support page:[...]It turns out that if you have a Nvidia card (which I fortunately do) you can sort of work around this and override this limitation. In my case I have to give up letting the monitor sleep or it wont come back, and everytime before shutting down I need to lower the resolution, and then everytime after booting manually set it up. I have seen other people having to settle for 16 bit color or 30Hz, so I guess it depends on your card. Anyway, this proves that the monitor and the cable can get that done, but Dell drivers are just poor.It may be fine with Display Port, but I don't know. In the end, if you want to use this monitor with a laptop... I would look somewhere else

I bought one of these several months ago and I liked it enough that I bought a second for my dual monitor setup. Very easy viewing for long periods. I spend several hours a day at the keyboard. This monitor compares very well with the 30" monitors which have a few more pixels, but are also quite a bit more expensive.Make sure to use the dual link DVI cable that is shipped with the monitor. I originally used a DVI cable that I had hooked up to a lower resolution monitor and the results were not good. After a bit of research I determined the problem was that the cable I was using wasn't dual link.I am using a Nvidia GTX550ti video card and it handles two of these monitors with no issues. I'm not doing heavy duty gaming. Just software development and general purpose usage.

This display showed promise but unfortunately it died after a week of usage. Dell support has been terribly disappointing to deal with. I've requested an exchange which they approved but never shipped. I've followed up 4 different times over the past 3 weeks and so far a month after purchasing the display I still have it laying in a corner of my office dead. I've now just asked for a refund since Dell is unable to ship a replacement even after authorizing it.I've bought over $20,000 worth of Dell equipment over the last five years and unfortunately each time a component fails the support has gotten worse. This has been compounded by the equipment failing more than it used to as well. You would think for what is basically one of the nicest displays they make that Dell would deliver top notch support.

This Dell monitor was touted in the trade magazines as the latest and most advanced flat panel computer monitor on the market. It was a huge disappointment and not even close to the Samsung SyncMaster 2493 that I have had for a couple years. The vendor had shipped it free and was very accommodating to allow me to ship it back free and get a full refund. This is the last Dell display that I will ever buy. I have a 22" that has no contrast and is going to get replaced as well.

This is the second dell u2711 monitor I purchase both were defective. I use my computer monitors to also watch TV and movies using the composite connection. This was one of the main reasons I purchased this monitor,it is one of the few with composite connection. The problem was that once connected the picture would darken so badly that the screen was almost totally black. I thought this was just a problem with this one monitor but the problem was the same with the other monitor I ordered. This is obviously a design flaw.I contacted Dell and ended up being transferred to five different people and hung-up on once. I was on hold so long that my cordless phone's battery went dead. The last person I talk to said there was nothing he could do since he had no information about the composite connector on the monitor. I doubt I will every purchase a dell product again after this experience with their flawed products and customer service.

I've had this monitor for a month now and I've to say that it's phenomenal. I was using the Dell 2405FPW for 5 years until the U2711 was released, almost matching the resolution of the 30-inch (2560 by 1600), at almost half the price. It's a bargain.The resolution is outstanding at 2560 by 1440. Yes, there's 160 pixels missing from the bottom compared to a typical 30-inch, but coming up from 1920 by 1200 it doesn't really matter.The colours are vibrant, which is great. The text is a bit smaller, of a size you typically see on 13-inch laptops. It took me a while to get used to the smaller font size.This set is still non-glossy. But apparently, Dell has applied some anti-glare coating. I've read on forums that some customers disliked it but I've no problem with it - I didn't even detect it was there.Compared to a 24-inch (1920 by 1200px), the U2711 isn't much taller, it's much wider. I can fit two webpages, 1024px each, and still be able to see icons on the desktop.Backlight bleeding is barely noticeable. It means if your widescreen movies still show the letterbox black bars, you'll be less distracted.The U2711 also works well with my PS3 via HDMI. I'm not sure of the audio capabilities but I use a 2.1 speaker plugged in with a 3.5mm jack. One thing to note is you'll have to set the audio settings on your PS3 to output 2.1 sound to make sure they output all the sound, dialogue, effects, surround, etc.Gaming on the PS3 is very enjoyable. The games are upscaled and there's a notch of graininess. Not really an issue unless you're sitting really close. Everything looks snappy and I don't notice any lag but I'm don't really play FPS games.Note that this monitor would require a decent graphics card with dual-DVI output. If you want to game at the maximum resolution, then you need a powerful card.This is a huge physical monitor. My table is really small and it took up almost half of it. But not regrets.I managed to get this LCD at US$690 equivalent in Asia, Singapore. It's well worth it. This set is going to last me for a long time, until the slimmer LED version comes out in who-knows-which year.I would recommend this monitor to graphic designers, photographers or anyone who multi-task a lot.- For Mac Users -I'm using this on a Mac Pro and have powered it on two graphic card, not both at the same time. It's plug and play, no drivers required.On the ATI Radeon X1900XT, you won't be able to see the dual boot screen if you hold Alt after the startup (that's if you're using Boot Camp). On the ATI Radeon 4870, it works just flawlessly.- For technical reviews, just visit the links in my comment section. I found and used them while researching on the U2711.- Update: 21 Jul 2011 -After a year or so, my Dell monitor started having brightness flicker. It seems to affect just the DVI (both ports). I called up Dell and they sent me a replacement (refurbished) monitor the next day to my doorstep. Didn't lose any downtime. Excellent service.

This has been a great monitor and have no regrets about buying it. I had a Samsung before this one and it was good but not what I expected for overall performance. That monitor and many others like it just didn't produce the grey scale as accurately as I would have liked. The Dell is superb in that area! Dark colors are clear and crisp. If you're watching a movie like Harry Potter where it is dark for a lot of the movie the blacks and greys don't bleed together like it did with my previous monitor. I couldn't tell how accurate the colors are because I don't have anything to measure that with but they look good and true. Don't notice any over saturation. As for the anti-glare coating that others have criticized about, I don't notice it. I had completely forgotten about it until I started writing this review. Not saying it's not there but it doesn't bother me but I am only on my computer for 2-4 hours a day.I didn't get it for any of the input features or the mechanical adjustments of the monitor but have grown to love them. Don't think I could ever go back to a monitor that doesn't adjust like this one does! It's very nice and solid. Nothing on this monitor feels flimsy. All the inputs the extra USB ports and the card readers have been super handy to have because my computer doesn't have many USB ports.

After 4 months, I am very satisfied with my U2711. Adobe RGB color calibration from the factory was close (deviations at 5% or less), and was easily refined using an X-Rite Eye One calibrator to better than 2%. On-screen controls allow the monitor mode to be switched among various color modes relatively painlessly, but a simple toggle between sRGB and a preferred mode would make it simpler to view non-color-managed web pages (which are almost always sRGB). Brightness is good for use in normal ambient light, and variations in illumination are slight. Some reviewers have complained about the the anti-glare matte screen, which introduces a shimmery graininess. While not ideal, I am willing to tolerate this effect since the alternative seems to be the nearly ubiquitous glossy screen.

I built my own video editing computer and needed a new monitor to take advantage of the 2560x1440 resolution my new graphics card was capable of. This monitor is it! Some people love the anti-glare coating, some people hate it. I'm closer to the "love it" end of the spectrum.I was dreading getting a defective monitor, but there are zero dead/stuck pixels on this panel. The controls are easy to use and the touch sensitive buttons work just fine. The Menu button even has a proximity sensor in it, so it lights up as you move your hand towards it. Nice touch.This is an expensive monitor, but you are getting excellent quality. C/Net still says, "Buy the Dell u2711. But if you can't buy a Dell u2711, then this [other monitor] is a good 2nd choice." High praise.As Steve Jobs might say, "And one last thing"... Prior to my u2711 arriving, I ordered a dual-link DVI cable so that it could handle the 2560x1440 resolution. A single-link DVI cable cannot handle that resolution. I was pleasantly surprised to find that this monitor came with a dual-link DVI cable, an HDMI cable, and a Display Port cable... along with the power cable and USB cable (for the built-in media card reader).

Very satisfied customer.First off, the anti-glare coating around the screen edge is NOT A DISTRACTION. Ignore the naysayers it does not exist and you will never notice it in your house, ever.Second, I have a 27" Mac Screen at work and the color reproduction from the DELL U2711 is identical. The Mac Screen only beats the DELL in top to bottom viewing angles but just barely and probably not even noticeable for the average person. Additionally, the MAC screen is glossy and you will see your reflection, in the DELL this does not exist.Third, I ended up buying this product directly from DELL so I could finance it since Amazon would not offer this to me otherwise I would have purchased it from Amazon.Pros:- Colors are amazing from all angles- Inputs are outstanding on the back. It has everything you would ever need and more.- USB ports are a blessing in disguise.- Not a glossy screen so you will never see your reflection when working on it.Cons:- The method of plugging in the inputs does get frustrating the first time. It's a pain to try to plug things into it, but a minor inconvenience at that.Overall:- Very happy customer and a great purchase. Worth every penny I highly recommend.

Pros--------------1. Split screen for picture by picture. This gives you composite, hdmi and component at the same time with your other PC screen. Hook up your favorite video game system and play it while doing regular PC work on the other screen together.2. In the display settings there is a Wide mode. The choice of Fill, Aspect or 1:1 can give you true resolution at native 2560 x 1440 regardless of what you display at. Say for example your PC max output is 1024 x 800, you will see that resolution with a black backdrop that fills up the rest. It will look small but clear. Vice versa if your PC display at 2560 x 1660, it will look like a virtual window where you can scroll past the display portion. Be sure to use the right mode. Otherwise native high res at 2560 x 1440 means everything you look at below this resolution maybe blurry.3. The USB built-in means I have quick access to USB at my desk without reaching for a hub.4. Mini cable management hole at the back is ridiculously handy. Keeps table neat. Most underrated feature.5. Input mode of VGA, two DVI-D, displayport, hdmi 1.3, component etc is more than most can use.6. Software driver for u2711 is excellent on win XP, vista and win 7. I tried all three.7. Monitor stem/swivel is high quality.Cons--------------1. Ok looking at white screen. But when looking at black screen, it has a large glossy glare. Is highly noticeable and will annoy probably alot of people. Perhaps the biggest turn off.2. Unless you have a very modern gaming graphics card, 2560 x 1440 is apparently hard to find. I don't even get this setting on the latest core i7 laptops, which all do 2560 x 1660. If anyone know how to modify display drivers to force 2560 x 1440 out, leave me a message.3. Despite a good fit the optional Dell AS501 Sound Bar is not worth it. Any half decent PC speaker will top it.

For some reason I could not get this monitor to connect at full resolution with my Macbook Air. Tried a variety of cables, including the $99 Apple mini displayport to Dual DVI adapter, the Kanex equivalent and some mini displayport to displayport ones. Dell tech support wasn't very helpful.I even took the monitor to Tekserve, an Apple-authorized warranty service center, begging them to find a way connect the two. Spent an hour and a half with a technician and he was stumped. After seeing my Macbook Air work flawlessly on the first try with a 27" Cinema Display at the store, I decided that I had bought the wrong monitor and sent the Dell on its way.

I have had the same problem reflected by other reviewers. Static white and sometimes colored lines flickering on the screen covering half of the screen. This first occured 3 months after I purchased it and after jumping through hoops Dell sent me a replacement. It exhibited the same thing as soon as I hooked it up. Tried it out on three different desktops with the same results. Sent it back and received the third one that has lasted 1 year and is now exhibiting the same problem. Three monitors in 15 months. You got to be kidding! Save your money and skip this one.

This Dell monitor is great... Gives you nearly the resolution of a 30" monitor for a fraction of the price. Colors are good and combined with my Nvidia Geforce GTX 580 games look fantastic.. Lots of input ports of different kinds to accomadate any video card...

They don't call it UltraSharp for nothing! I do CAD work and sharp, clean lines at any angle is important. This monitor has exceeded my expectations. The colors are so brilliant that I am now able to use colors that were previously unusable because they could not be distinguished on my top of the line CRT monitor. The monitor is exactly as described right down to being the latest revision from Dell. The speed of delivery was quite amazing. It arrived well before the estimated arrival date range even began.

I purchased this monitor and about 3 months later it began having vertical green lines over the right half of the screen. After a week long run-around with Dell, they sent me a replacement, which was a refurbished monitor. The refurbished monitor had a dead pixel in the center of the display. This will certainly be my last dell product. I would recommend other buyers to consider alternatives.

I have three U2711 monitors, I bought them because of the higher resolution. the only reason I did not give them 5 stars is because I need to know that they will last several years if they do then I will up to 5 stars. I don't play games so if they work good for gaming I can't say, but for charting and reading blue prints they are just what I need. 2 for 6 months 1 for 1 month.

This is my first high-quality ISP monitor and I have to say I am amazed by the difference it made to my 27" Samsung HD monitor. The colors of the Dell are amazing and it's great for photo work.BUT, and here comes the big "but", the anti-glare of the screen is awful! As someone mentioned in another review - it could be a big deal breaker so make sure you can either return the monitor or go to a B&M store and check it out in person first. It's hard to describe, but when looking at anything white or light color, it seems like the monitor is covered with tinny diamonds. The first day I used the monitor - it gave me a headache and nausea just by using it to browse the net. I decided to stick to my guns and in a couple of days I was already used to it, but someone less patient would probably take it back right away.Also, Dell claims that the response time of this monitor is 6ms, but in reality it's much, much slower. Not quite suitable for FSP games and other fast-response applications.

Dell specifically told me that this monitor would rotate 90 degrees when I called them before purchasing. Turns out it can't. Now I get the feeling Dell will tell you whatever they think you want to hear to make a sale, then hope you don't have the time or energy to go through a returns process.

My monitor has developed electronic stripes down half of the screen. The purchase of the monitor included a 3 year warranty. I have attempted to contact the seller (Data Master LCC) but they have not responded to my emails and their address is not posted.

I regret to agree with those that have criticized the text on this monitor. The anti Glare coating really messes with text such that it's difficult on your eyes. I have perfect vision and it really bothers me to look at text on this monitor. As for graphics/photo's this monitor is amazing. Unfortunately I use it for both. I don't think it would have been too much to ask for better text after paying so much money.Updated 9/6/11Maybe I've just gotten used to this monitor, but I don't really notice any issues with text anymore. It's not as bad as I remember but nonetheless it could be better so I'm keeping the 4 star review. I still love it for graphics.

The Dell u2700 is a fantastic monitor, but has quality control issues.I purchased 2 Dell u2711 monitors directly from Dell 4 months ago (I bought them to replace an HP3065 that I had for 3+ years with a pair of matched monitors).Up until 3 days ago they were the best monitors I had ever owned. At that time one of the u2711's right half of the screen turned on to a mid-level green. It is intermittent and is overridden for any color that uses a green over 1/2 brightness. The end result is that I will have to RMA it back to Dell.I Googled "Dell u2711 problems" and was greeted with a number of right hand screen problems. Anyway I can't recommend the u2711 until they fix the QC issue. It is sad, because if the panel problem had not occurred, these would still be the best monitors I have owned.

Well worth the high price tag. Take a bit of adjusting to the small pixels. Especially, I have a 2nd 24" monitor @ 1920x1280 side by side.

I had to give U2711 to my colleague and get back to U2410 as the anti-glare coating on the U2711 is a huge overkill for text work (I mostly work with text). It is probably nice for photo editing, as it will kill all the reflections and glare, but it renders text fuzzy and white background looks low contrast and fuzzy.As much as I dislike glossy displays, same panel on Apple's 27" makes for better text contrast and ease of reading, even when you see your own reflection in the screen.I wish it was 19:10 format (say 2400x1500)

Although you might be put off by shelling out a grand for a display monitor, you get a lot of bang for your buck. I have tested all the inputs. Don't waste your time with the VGA, it's only there as a last resort during video troubleshooting. The two dual link DVI ports will satisfy most users (switching from two sources). The video cards I've tested only allow a maximum resolution of 1920 x 1200 using the HDMI port. The DisplyPort (DP) as with the DVI ports will deliver the full resolution of 2560 x 1440. The OSD panel is activated by putting your hand near it. It is easy to turn on and off, regardless of room lighting. The OSD menu is easy to use as well. If you play a lot of action games, you might be disappointed by it's response time, but for all other uses it's hard to beat.

Excellent value. I have had this for more than a month and love it. No viewing angle problems nor smearing on fast action. This monitor will spoil you for a non-IPS monitor. Excellent for graphics work.Cons: Only on the price, yet we get what we pay for. I may buy another to upgrade a 1650x1050 second monitor.As for the one star review below, the "reviewer" is a mental midget, complaining only about a typo on the page.

The colors are good. Image is crisp, BUT, the right half of the screen jitters perhaps an average of once per minute. I'm seriously considering returning it....must be a defective unit.
