The design is a bit hit and miss, the kettle itself looks nice, but the base feels quite cheaply made. The digital display is very nice, but the opening is quite small so it can be a little awkward to fill and even more to clean out should you need to. It also has the fill level indicator positioned inside the handle, so it's not as easy to see and almost impossible if you have to hold it to fill.
The temperature level can be increased in 5 degree increments from 85 degrees up to 100 degrees. This should give a great deal of control, however as green tea recommends a temperature of only 80 degrees, the instruction suggestion is to stand and watch the digital display and turn the kettle off manually when it reaches the required temperature. Given that the current price tag is £80 this seems a bit much to expect the user to do it manually after they've spent that amount on a temperature control kettle.
Also worth noting the flex on the base seems shorter than most kettles I've had in the past, it's also quite stiff so doesn't tuck away particularly easily when not in use.
I also found that being metal the outside of the kettle gets very hot, however the heat travels into the handle quite easily too, so if you don't empty the kettle as soon as it's boiled the handle doesn't take long to get uncomfortably hot.
Not an awful kettle, but too many badly thought out parts for the current price tag so I wouldn't recommend it. I also feel that whilst the kettle might be made to last, the base station feels quite flimsy and feels like it may break much sooner than the kettle would.
The first two points do count for a lot, as far I am concerned. The kettle is always there, like the taps and the fancy storage jars. It DOES need to look good.
And electricity usage HAS to come down, and stopping short of boiling saves a not insignificant amount (a kettle costs around £30 a year in electricity and the last few degrees are the most expensive).
The heaviness isn't an issue for me, but it will stop my children and my parents from using the kettle, which leaves me on tea duty full time.
Overall, this is a terrific looking kettle though, and the energy saving feature is very welcome. Almost five stars.
My issue is the weight which is a fair bit over 1kilo (1174), which compared to my looky -likey Tesco kettle weighing 784gm, means I have to use both hands to lift it. How do I then fill it from the tap? Put it in the sink? Not a good idea.
It looks good, works well, but not for me I'm afraid as over time, as my strength weakens, this will become more difficult. I suspect for an older person, even without hand issues, this would be too weighty.
well; it pours well; heats up quickly; is easy to hold. I guess that the last point made
is something very important to her because due to an accident she has limited use of her
arm. Mum said that it was complicated to work out how to alter the temperature settings -
my daughter disagreed and said that a quick look at the enclosed user manual immediately
made it clear how to do so. Mum said that if there was a negative point about the kettle
is was that the water level indicator was not on the side where it could be easily seen
but at the rear of the kettle thereby being difficult to see due to the handle obstructing
one's view of the indicator. Value for money? Well, mum with her herbal teas which need
specific temperatures to bring out the best of said teas said yes - daughter said that
although it is a lovely kettle, due to her only needing boiling water for standard teas,
she doubts that she would pay the extra - over and above the standard kettle cost, that
is.
But to explain further, it's cordless (the base is plugged in), you can set the temperature, it looks very smart, has a screen so you can see your settings, and it has lasted this long (most electronic items seem to break quickly these days).
It is however quite expensive for a kettle, at over £75 at time of review, and so can only be considered a luxury rather than a necessity.
Easy of use, great control of temperatures, looks good, boils the water fast - sorted 👍
Quite heavy, and lid could do with flipping back a bit more as it’s a narrow opening when filling, but it boils quickly and doesn’t have that nasty plastic smell and taste cheap kettles have.
Happy with it, would recommend.
I have the stainless steel version of this kettle which has been excellent. I took advantage of the 3 year warranty after nearly 3 years and the return process with Cuisinart was exemplary - free return label and instant return of a brand-new item.
I bought this graphite grey version as a spare and to ring the changes. It is even better as the high quality pearlescent grey/black finish does not show watermarks as stainless steel does.
Excellent for people who like coffee or tea at lower temperatures. Boils really fast, but little noisy, if that's an issue.
Only negative point on this kettle is that this model now has a plastic handle and not metal like before.
Consigliatissimo!!!
La consegna come sempre impeccabile.
Non credo mia stato consegnato nuovo, qualche piccola imperfezione.
Ma perfettamente funzionante.
