I wanted some decent but not too expensive speakers, so I set out to find some decent speakers under $100. I bought and tested 3 different sets. * Creative T12 Speakers * Creative T20 Series II Speakers * Bose Companion 2 Series II SpeakersAfter purchasing the listed 3 speakers sets, I had to play them with the various types of music I listen to, Rap/HipHop, R&B, Classical, Jazz, and Country. Here is my short review based off my experience with each item.1: Creative T12 SpeakersPRODUCT: Very small packaging, nice design, easy to setup. Small speakers in size. Decent construction and great overall build quality. Speakers include one driver. Front of the right speaker is a volume knob, 3.5mm headphone jack, 3.5mm aux jack and a green power light. Rear of the right speaker is a second 3.5mm aux jack, port to the left speaker and port for power. The extra 3.5mm Aux jacks come in very hand for connecting to multiple devices such as MP3 Players, Gaming Headsets, Laptops, Cell Phones, etc.SOUND: I thought they were decent until I compared them side by side with the Creative T20's which blew these out of the water in every way possible. I notice at medium to high volume levels the T12's tend to distort audio significantly, mainly due to the "bass flex" technology trying to push too hard for its little self. At low to moderate volumes they aren't that bad, but for anyone that is an audiophile, loves sound but doesn't consider themselves an audiophile, I would completely avoid these. The T12's don't get too loud, loud enough to fill a small living room but they will likely start to distort. I would ONLY recommend these speakers to people looking for a very cheap solution to simply amplify sound on their desktop or laptop.2. Creative T20 Series II SpeakersPRODUCT: Small packaging, better build and design construction compared to the T12's. Speakers include one driver and one tweeter. Front of the right speaker is a volume knob, bass knob, treble knob, 3.5mm headphone jack, 3.5mm aux jack and a blue power light surrounding the Power Knob. Rear of the right speaker is a second 3.5mm aux jack, port to the left speaker and port for power. These speakers a much bigger than the T12's. The extra 3.5mm Aux jacks come in very hand for connecting to multiple devices such as MP3 Players, Gaming Headsets, Laptops, Cell Phones, etc.SOUND: For $80, these sound very nice, I was actually extremely surprised how clear, crisp and loud they were compared to both the Creative T12's and the Bose Companion 2 Series II Speakers. They have a bass port at the top of each speaker. After listening these for a few hours side by side with the T12's, the T20's blow the T12's out of the water in every aspect. The T20's compared to the Bose Companion 2 Series II Speakers are better, especially in the mids and lows. They don't blow the Bose Companion 2 Series II Speakers out of the water, but they definitely have a much better sound for all the genres of music I listen to. I would recommend the T20's over the Bose Companion 2 Series II Speakers for the same price. I do however think the Bose speakers have a more sleek, clean design. I would recommend the T20's over the Bose Companion 2 Series II Speakers easily for the same price. I did notice however with the BASS anywhere past the mid point, the speakers start to distort pretty bad. I preferred to leave the treble on max and bass between the 30-50% range.3. Bose Companion 2 Series II SpeakersPRODUCT: Small packaging, not too small, not too big of speakers, perfect in size for a small desk or kitchen. Very clean, sleek design compared to the Creative T20 Series II Speakers. Right speaker in the front has a volume knob and a 3.5mm headphone jack. In the rear of the right speaker, power input, 4 RCA (red & white) inputs and input for the left speaker.SOUND: Very clean, nice sound overall. They lack some crispness in the mid and lows. They have a very nice sound for the size of the speakers, nothing amazing, nothing horrible. They are definitely worth the $60-$80 range. You are paying some extra money for the "Bose" name, more so than a quality product. In every aspect however, the Creative T20 Series II Speakers beat the Bose. For the same money I would recommend the Creative T20 Series II Speakers over the Bose, but keep in the mind the Bose still sound very nice for the size and price. If you're stuck on getting the Bose and aren't looking for an "god like" speaker you wont' be disappointed, but I would definitely recommend the Creative T20 Series II Speakers over them.

Well, I had these setting around quite a while before I finally got the long cables I needed to set them up in another room away from the computer. So I'm just now getting around to writing this review, but I felt I had to do it. These are very small speakers. They stand about 9" tall and about 3 1/2" wide. But they are fairly heavy little guys! Of course I wouldn't expect much volume out of speakers this size, meaning you wouldn't expect to blast music all over the house with these. BUT---- ounce for ounce, these little babies rock! I like to hear the base in music where base is meant to be appreciated. These do that. I have them at the end of a small hallway, up on a cabinet about 52" tall. They point out into the dinning / living room area. Plenty of volume is available to hear in these two rooms nicely. No, not pounding sound you can't talk above, of course, for that you need bigger speakers, but it's a nice volume to really enjoy a song or instrumental, such as good guitar, or classical music. What ever you like. I couldn't be more surprised. When I took them out of the box, I thought --- ooops--- not going to get that much out of these little speakers---wrong-- they are great. So if ear splitting sound isn't your requirement, and you aren't trying to play to a really big room (the area I am amplifying is 28' x about 30' ) with enough volume to enjoy the music and still talk. And a quality sound, not lacking is base. I might add that they are attractive also. Not cheap looking. Hope this helps. And the price is right.

I bought a pair of T20 Series II on July 2011 from Amazon. They were open box and had small barely noticeable scratches on the right speaker. I paid $61.00 for these demo units and had some concerns after reading about some of the problems others had, but I took a chance. I was replacing my Bose Roomates and anyone who knows anything about speakers knows that Bose Roomates are excellent portable powered speaker (the Bose are now connected to my Airport Express using Airplay) so I did not want to compromise on sound at my computer workstation. The T20 speakers have a much smaller footprint than my Bose yet put out the sound! They are bright and clear with enough base to handle the the electronica I like to listen to while working and are great with Chill Out and Trance music too. Rock sound great, Jazz sound great, and on the occasion I want to listen to classical music I have yet to be disappointed. Fanfare for the Common Man is a great way to test speakers and the T20 does a nice job (remember, these are small and less than $90.00 bucks). Can they match my old Polk Audios monitor speakers? NO. But I don't listen to those beasts a meter from my head either. I feel bad for anyone that got burned, but that's the price for shopping at Amazon. I did give an extra star for the price I paid, which for ME made these little wonders a 5 star purchase. GO TO YOUR NEAREST BEST BUY NOW AND LISTEN FOR YOURSELF. THEY ARE ON SALE FOR $79.98. Amazon ain't the only place to get a deal and if you have trouble like some seem to have you'll get much better customer service than you'll ever will from Amazon.

Until I tried my inexpensive Behringer usb dac I was pretty disappointed in these speakers. I just got a new Dell XPS system, changed my office, and needed something without a subwoofer. Unfortunately, these T20 just sounded dreadful at first with a lousy midbass and a high end that just sounded so wrong - much worse than the Boston Acoustics subwoofer system that I was replacing. But its the old story of garbage in - garbage out and these speakers were much more revealing of the problems. The little dac got me much closer to what I was hoping for. After that a little break in time and tone adjustment (bass at 10oclock and treble at 1 oclock) got me where I'm really enjoying these now.Overall, I'm finding the sound beautifully detailed from the mids and up. With decent signal coming in you'll definitely notice a nice openness and coherence in the top end. The dedicated tweeter is well implemented and really imparts a proper airiness to the music. In the lower bass area they hold up well and don't seem to have any significant frequency depressions or pull outs in this region. The ported bass does extend the reach of the speakers but there is a bit of a hump in the lower bass region before the bass trails off completely. I wish they had damped the internals a bit more to tighten up the bass in this region but its listenable and gives a warm sound with no hint of dryness.Compared to my Boston Acoustics subwoofer system the T20's are much more lively in the upper reaches and far more coherent in the lower end. There's a bit less lower end bass in the T20's but I really don't miss it since the subwoofer was rather boomy sitting on the floor anyway.

These speakers in my opinion, are awesome, as long as you know what you're using them for. If you're looking for a surround sound system, this set of speakers is NOT for you. If you're looking for bass heavy speakers with subwoofers that will shake the earth, these speakers are NOT for you. However, if you need a set of speakers with good sound for the price, that you want to play video games/music/movies on without too much hassle, and your source is a computer, television, mp3 player, cd player, etc, these speakers ARE for you.I had a set of 2.1 speakers from Acoustic Authority that were great, although really it was for the subwoofer. However, one of the speakers went out and I had to chuck the whole thing, including the subwoofer. However I wasn't interested in getting another 2.1 system because I wanted something simple, a set of 2.0 speakers that had good sound, something like my old Harman Kardon HK19.5 2.0 speakers, but better. So I looked around, and before I settled on these, I tried out both the Creative T20 series I and the Bose Companion 2 series II speakers. The Creative T20 series I speakers were good, but did not bowl me over enough to warrant keeping them. The highs were great and mids were decent, liked the adjustable EQ settings on the right speaker, and were loud enough, however, I did notice that if I put the bass dial a hair past halfway, it would give a weird rattle that would distract me from the music, and if I turned it up louder, it would get worse (it is most notable on bass heavy music or music that had great emphasis on bass kicks). Also that blue light that people said was annoying...it really was annoying, and that sealed it. I took those back, and tried the Bose Companion 2 series II speakers. They were smaller, however they were more sturdy, mostly because they were heavier. No outside EQ setting dials, but had 2 AV outputs in the back, and then I tried the sound. It was really good. In fact it was great, UNTIL I started turning the volume past halfway. By then, it does this weird volume change where the highs and mids are cutback while keeping the bass, so you get this unnatural volume level change when it should be steady, and that bothered me, because it ruined the enjoyment of playing music (or other things for that matter) at a slightly higher volume, even if it was just past halfway. So off they went back.So then I tried these. Saw them at Best Buy, thought they sounded good when I listened to the music playing station it was set up at, so I took a chance and bought it at Best Buy, mostly because it was on sale AND I had a coupon for an additional 10% off. I took the speakers out of the box slowly, opened the plastic, set the speakers up, plugged them in, popped in the Talking Heads disc "Speaking in Tongues" so I could queue up "Burning Down the House" (which was the song I queued up when I set up the T20 series I speakers). It sounded awesome. Then I got cocky and decided to crank the bass level up past halfway....wow, not nearly as much rattle from the speakers this time. The bass is actually quite good, for a set of speakers that are under a $[...] bucks that doesn't include subwoofers. Mind you, these speakers do NOT have quite the amount of bass any 2.1 set will have, but that is besides the point. If I wanted speakers with a mad amount of bass, I would have gone for a 2.1 system, but I didn't. That being said, the sound overall is quite good, once you tweak it to how you want it.Pros:- Great sound for not a whole lot of money. Doesn't rattle as much when bass level is past halfway unlike the T20 series I (I did find it will rattle, but only when bass level is near full blast, which I don't do)and it doesn't also have that weird volume cutoff unlike the Bose Companion 2 series II speakers.- Adjustable eq settings on right speaker means you can tweak your sound more.- Sharp looking design. Also, the grills are easier to take off/put on (I prefer the grills off). Also on the design note of the speakers, the hole where the X-bassport is on each speaker is more narrow, which is good because less air travels throughout and not as much rattling due to less air traveling.- Blue light no longer is a bright dot by itself. Instead it's a less brighter ring shade around the volume knob. Doesn't bother me as much so that's good.- At 28 watts, it gets surprisingly loud. When the volume is roughly in the 1 o'clock position, I can hear it from the otherside of my house. In a 1200 square foot house, that is loud. Needless to say, if you have a small area of residence (like a 1 bedroom apartment), or you need something for the bedroom, these are perfect. In fact, these things can get almost as loud as one of those Bose wave systems (maybe not the BIG wave system, but the regular one) Yes, that loud.- Surprisingly portable. Now I don't think a lot of people will be carrying this around from place to place everyday. BUT, if you needed to take some speakers to somewhere like a frien

Just bought these to replace some old Harmon Kardon's that finally crapped out. Looking for speakers to hook up to my computer to listen while I work. Don't need really loud (except when I do) or excessive bass, but it was very important to me to have them sound pleasant with good range, and I didn't want to spend over $100.Simply put, I can't believe how good these are. Very smooth, can handle volume very well (listening to Mark Knopfler as I am writing this). Amazing range, great highs and mids, acceptable bass, great imaging, very natural sound, just a great pair of speakers. I listened to the Bose C2's in Best Buy and the Bose are not nearly as good as these. Very muddy-sounding compared to the T20's. It's nice that you can adjust bass and treble (but not with the Bose). For $80 these are incredible. Just buy them.

Really depends on what you're going for, I suppose. For me, these speakers are for my home office. Every once in a while I fire up some music while I'm working, and these speakers (for me) are great for that purpose. Nice bass response for speakers of this size, but certainly some gamers might miss the extra boom of a real, separate subwoofer. I've tested rock, electronica, folk, and a bit of metal on them. All come out well, and as faithful as I'm going to get in this price range.I'm not a gamer at this point in my middle aged life. So, for playing some music while getting work done, fine. And they get surprisingly loud pretty fast (again, for me), so they are probably overkill for a work office filed with co-workers. I have only had them for just over a week, so I'll weigh back in later in terms of reliability.

Had trouble initially hooking up these speakers, but after a reboot everything worked fine. Was originally wanting the T40's, but couldn't rationalize paying over $100.00, so purchased these based on the great reviews it received. And boy, am I glad that I did! These speakers rock! I usually listen to classic rock and soul (think David Bowie, Hall and Oates, El Debarge, Spinners, etc.) and these speakers for the money really perform (I'm listening to them as I write). Crystal clear highs, moderate bass and lots of treble. I don't like my music blasting, just clean and clear, and these speakers really pull it off! I highly recommend these to people who have similar tastes and don't need to light up an auditorium with sound, although these can get quite loud (I have them at about one-quarter volume and am very satisfied). More than enough for office or small or even large rooms, you'll be quite surprised at the quality of sound. These speakers are also solid and quite attractive with the black piano finish. Again, I am quite happy with these speakers even though they just went down $10.00 right before I took delivery. They're now a very SOLID bargain at $65.00 a pair! Grab them while you can!!!!!

I've had these for about 2 years. Previously I was using the venerable Logitech Z-2300's, but the subwoofer bothered my downstairs neighbor and doesn't go completely silent even if you turn the bass all the way down. I needed to switch to a 2.0 system for late-night listening. I have listened to these side-by-side with the Z2300's (THX certified) for music and honestly I like these better at low-to-mid volume. I've since moved the Z2300's to TV-duty and these are my main computer speakers. You don't get the punch of having a 10" sub, but they still fill the room with sound. They are plenty loud for a computer desk and the bass response is surprisingly good even though they say the frequency response is only rated down to 50hz. I honestly don't know why anyone would want the T40's - if you can go any louder, why not get a system with a subwoofer?

I think I bought these (after extensive research comparing two speaker systems vs 2:1 systems) on the strengths of its reviews, so here goes another thumbs up.These are very good little speakers, for desk or nightstand, or kitchen or bathroom. I've set them up in a fairly large room and they provide more than adequate volume at a decent quality to justify a greater price.I certainly don't miss not having a sub-woofer: the balance between the bass, mids and highs is very good even at a near maximum volume setting.Of course, the five stars is mindful of the low expectations that go with a low-cost product like this, but nevertheless, they are warranted: those twins punch well above their weight.Highly recommended as computer/desktop/iPhone/nightstand/bathroom speakers.

I got these speakers around 6-7 years ago. They are the same speakers I am still using for my PC as of now. I have not encountered the hissing sound others are talking about. Some pros and cons:Pros:-Very good sound-Not too small not too big-Great bass-Aux-in portCons:-These speakers are wobble-ly. As you can see in the picture the bottom of the speaker is curved. I knock these things over a lot when I move stuff around in my desk.(but they are very durable!)-The power on LED is very bright and pretty distracting. I just put a piece of tape over it.-It uses those power plugs that's shaped like a big cube. Hogs space on my power stripe. For this price, these speakers are worth it.

After 2+ years of dependably delivering sonic awesomeness, I have to say that these desktop speakers are reliably outstanding. Oh, I've had slightly sweeter sounding $130 Klipsch desktop 2.0 series speakers that developed an intermittent connectivity issue. Sure, they were fine at first. After a few months, however, I would have to turn them on & off repeatedly to get them to work. Finally, the ever-increasing # of times that I had to turn them on & off became so bad that I gave 'em the heave-ho. I highly recommend these surprisingly powerful, Creative speakers and change my original 4 star rating to a 5.By the way, these speakers have a cool, neon blue backlight encircling the on/off/volume switch which serves as a reminder to shut them off & save electricity.

Sometimes when purchasing products without the benefit of touch, hearing, seeing in person, anxiety to heartburn begins when the box arrives and you are nervous to even open it up. I purchased these after much investigation, soul searching and a few prayers. I love to listen to new age music in the quiet of sunday mornings in my office with that first cup of coffee while organizing my finanical paperwork for the previous week. Out of the box, they look professional and sleek. Nice. After hook-up, I turned them on and WOW, WOW, WOW!!!!!!!!!!!! The bass, the treble, the sound is absolutely incredible. For a speaker this size to deliver this amount of full range sound, is the bomb for my computer, my home office, and my wallet. Thank you Amazon for this wonderful find.

These speakers represent decent value for money, and have excellent bass reproduction (unlike some previous computer speakers I have had). If anything, the sound can be a bit bass heavy for my liking but I also listen to mostly compressed music (mps3/online streams) so some fidelity is already lost to compression. There are knobs for controlling bass/treble in addition to the usual volume knob. The speakers are more powerful that I would expect for desk speakers, especially if you use them to listen to music. They are well suited to compact rooms/ apartments. I can't comment on their reliability yet, but a good feature is that the headphone jack cable is replaceable (two-sided jack). This is typically the component that tends to get pulled on/worn out most easily.

I admit I was skeptical about Creative Labs speakers. I have been buying their sound cards since the mid 90's. I only recently gave up on Creative Labs in favor of a new player in the arena of sound cards, ASUS. I prefer Logitech speakers because again, that is what I always purchased for my computer audio needs. You see, when I purchased a new notebook for my office, I got new set of Logitech speakers that sounded absolutely awful. My old Logitech X-140's were "toast". Well, in comes Creative Labs to the rescue. Now, I have to shut my office door to keep from "blasting" out my co-workers. These GigaWorks T20's blew me away with their rich sound and decent price. I also like the way the volume control lights up blue when powered on. The individual bass and treble controls are a plus when I have poor quality MP3's or audio from my favorite video presentations. I am now a Creative Labs devotee when it comes to 2.0 speakers. I would recommend these to all who really don't need or have room for a 3 speaker system with a sub-woofer. The front removable protective screens are made of cloth and very delicate. In addition, they attract dust like a magnet, so be careful cleaning them. In any case, my hats off to Creative Labs for bringing me back to the fold.
