Don't expect TOO much
Due to the focal length the images appear rather zoomed in - so you have to stand a few feet away no matter what you're shooting. (This could become an issue if you're in a small room)
The low light performance is decent but ultimately the video quality will depend on your camera sensor. (Unfortunately, I'm using the Canon 1300D which is 'not the best') For indoor shooting at night, you still have to set the ISO pretty high.
Lastly, this lens does not have optical image stabilization - you will need a tripod in most situations. (Especially if you plan on recording a video)
What I love:
-It's easy to install and comes with 2 lens caps (rear and front)
-the bokeh is awesome
-nearly half the size of the standard lens, light and portable.
The low light performance is decent but ultimately the video quality will depend on your camera sensor. (Unfortunately, I'm using the Canon 1300D which is 'not the best') For indoor shooting at night, you still have to set the ISO pretty high.
Lastly, this lens does not have optical image stabilization - you will need a tripod in most situations. (Especially if you plan on recording a video)

Good product in this price range..
Received the product three weeks ago..
The picture clarity is as expected.
Good to take photos in low light as the aperture is 1.8 shutter speed will be much faster.
Awesome bokeh effect while taking portraits.
Lightweight and handy. :)
The build quality could have been a little more better.
While docking we can feel the friction between the body and the lense
Auto-focus take some time in low lit conditions and manual focus bit tricky to use.
Overall a great product.

Obviously Amazing!!
Excellent lens!
I am into photography since 5 years and I think this lens would be a game changer for every beginner!
This lens is prime (no zoom) and have an F/1.8 with which you can create amazing portraits. This lens is not just for portraits you can use it for product, low light, street etc...
It is also a very budget lens priced around 8.5k so it's very useful for every beginner
A beginner can leaen how to frame on his own as it does not have any zooming and can learn clearly learn about depth of field as it allows the widest F1.8(in this budget)
50mm also considered as normal lens which will surely give the effect needed
*This is a full frame lens and gets a different focal length (I.e more than 50) when used on cropped sensors (I.e 50 x crop factor)
Overall it's a good go for beginners and semi professional photographers as it teaches many elements and allows your photographs to reach next level

Superb Lens from Canon at low price
Good lens for full frame camera, however if you are not using a full frame camera than pls note that 50 mm lens will work as 85 mm lens and hence you might not be able to capture wide angle shots. If you are using this camera inside a room, it will give you a very zoom image.
For indoor usage 25 mm or 30 mm lenses are better options.
Now coming to 50 mm lens, this lens gives amazing result on outdoor shooting conditions. Lower f value gives you superb background blur effect and you can do wonders with this lens of used judiciously.
Looking to the price this lens option is an excellent choice if you are learning photography or you are on your way to become professional photographer.

My life saver lens.
Life saver lens. I wished I had 50mm/f1.4, but that one is three times the price of this one. Of course, f1.4 will give more bokeh effect and give great depth of field but f1.8 is also good enough. It does great work with my Sony A7R2 and I could not have asked for more in shoe-string budget for lenses.

Excellent
I haven't used this lens for image samples testing. But overall it will work great I know. The product built quality is very excellent. I was not expecting this much build quality. Everything in the lens is working good with autofocus. I don't see any downside in this lens. It is a must buy for beginners. I am happy that I have purchased it. Don't forget to register the product for warranty on cannon edge as soon as you get it.

***Important*** No doubt it's a good lens... but this is a bad place to buy it from.. the invoice had no serial no. of the product.. so canon does not accept that.. I've been struggling to get the issue resolved with Amazon since 6 months now.. no solution ******

Plastic fantastic or the Nifty 50!
My goodness, I should have bought this lens way before! I think every beginner should begin their photography with the 50 mm lens. Perfectly accurate and crisp pictures. I am a big fan of nifty 50! Love it! This Mansi small, durable, lightweight and comes with a metal housing. Someone wrote a review that it needs a 52 mm filter but actually this lens needs a 49 mm filter. I found it sweet spot at around f3-4. Autofocus is accurate and fast. Too bad that does not have vibration resistance.

Great lens for portraits & street photography
It has a nice build - metal mount & high quality abs plastic build.
50mm is considered a standard focal length, you can use this for overall photography. (Do note that it becomes 80mm lens in crop sensor camera as mostly crop sensor cameras have crop factor of 1.6).
It shows some chromatic abrasion, but not much.
It has sharpest aperture of f4.0 on crop sensor cameras.
Nice bokeh quality thanks to 7 blades aperture.
It is very silent.
Focus ring is electronically coupled & it is buttery smooth.
It has 49mm filter thread.
It would be great if they gave lens hood though.

For a beginner or amateur photographer, 50mm prime lens would be a good lens to add to existing kit-lens kit. Larger focal length helps in capturing better low-light photographs. Best lens for portraits, with crisp sharp imaging. And given larger focal length, it's easier to achieve bokeh effect

Ok, I was using the 18-55 kit lens for so long, and I was looking to try another lens. After devouring on a plethora of reviews, I decided to go with the nifty fifty prime lens. Yes, it's a really good option if u r on a low budget. Nevertheless, this lens is at par with the expectations. It really piqued my interest for portrait photography. Though, I was struggling with the focus ring and left exasperated, My recommendation would be to go for it if u r looking for portrait photography. Photographs are really crisp and clear sans any noise or blur that I felt with the kit lens.

It’s an amazing lens. It’s lightweight and it has good aperture. It is affordable and compact. The picture quality is awesome. I’m not using any other lens after I bought this one. I think it creates a lot of noise while focusing. Other than that, it’s just perfect!

just know the limitations of this lens and get high quality images
This is a good daily use lens and it produces really good quality videos but the lack of image stabilization hurts the overall video watching experience which comes out of the camera using this lens. I personally like the details and sharpness of this lens. But my only concern is that though its a good portrait lens but i am not a fan of the quality of the bokeh it produces generally the objects which is far away which feels a little cheap. Don't get me wrong the clarity and detail is spot on but the bokeh for far away objects feel cheap. Still i dont take portraits all the time and taking portraits of non human objects which has a short distance background gives awesome results.
So just know the disadvantages and use this lens accordingly and u will always get amazing looking images.

Then don't waste a single second and buy this lens. This lens gives you incredible candid shots. The focus of the lens is fixed at 50mm and the aperture you can set upto f/1.8.
Even the night shots are perfect. If you take my words then don't go for Tamron or Other brands 50mm lens. Go only for genuine canon lenses.
The product I recieved from Amazon is packaged well and the delivery was on time.

Very good product from Canon this is the 50 mm lens build quality is good. don't expect quality like L series lenses but gives very good effect. you can take portraits, you can give bokeh effect, works very well in low light this is the must have lens if you have DSLR camera. Buy it you won't regret !
If you're shooting through kit lens the you can buy it blindly and you wont regret. This is awesome awesome lens. Gives that blurry background or depth of field in the pictures. It gives you a good sharp portrait.
The autofocus of this lens depends on the camera model you're using. If you are using expensive camera you will get good autofocus and if you are using 1300D, 1500D, 3000D etc then it will struggle to find and lock the focus on the object. But i would say there is no need to autofocus if you have manual focus given in this lens so don't worry about autofocus
Talking about stabilization ..so this lens do not have any stabilization. You need to use gimble or tripod for stabilisation.
The guys and girls who want to buy this lens for vlogging. Then don't buy this lens. It is not for vlogging because it is 50mm focal length. Fabulous prime lens at a good price point.
Great prime lens! For five years, I used the kit lenses that came with my Canon 1200D and has mediocre results. This lens is fabulous for potraits and or situations where the light maybe low. This a great lens at an economical price (compared to the other expensive ones). Obviously, if you have an APS-C sensor camera, the 50 mm will work like an 80 mm. Even then, it's a great lens to start out with. I wish I had purchased it earlier and not missed out on so many moments.

I don't know about prime lens and all just give it a try but believe me guys portrait photos came out like unbelievably superb don't know about durability will take some time but you can hear the motor sound clearly that's the only problem for me other then that lens is awesome for the price I got 6800

One and Only !!
Canon 50mm F1.8 STM lens is the one and only lens that I use most of the time. I mean I have to take so many Portrait Photos and Videos with background Blurring, and this does my work.
Remember - If you but this lens, you will have crop factor. Which means.
If you keep camera 10 feet away from you, then only your head to chest will be captured. thats how much it crops. So make sure if you are buying this lens, make sure you have enough room & enough space.
Its best for low light indoors as well as great in outdoor at any condition.

Perfect Prime Lens :)
This is one of the best prime lenses ever known no doubt in that.
Picture quality and bokeh are awesome.
One thing that I would like to say for all those who have a crop sensor, in other words, APS-C sensor camera not a full frame camera, please note this is 50MM lens for full frame camera but as you have a crop sensor camera this 50mm lens will work similar to 80MM for Canon and 75MM for Nikon.

Must buy for Beginner DSLR users with full frame
Value for Money great bokeh & performs well good autofocus & great low light performance but for APS-C Camera like 1300d, 1500d & 80d crop is too much which makes lens difficult in indoor situations.
Canon should make 35mm F1.8 with the same price which may be equivalent to 50mm for full frame.

Great lens for portrait and low light photography
I bought this lens for quite a good price - 7299/- when there was a sale in the Amazon. Lens is good for night time photography specially when you have to manage taking photos in the limited light. This lens give ability to set the AF to as low as 1.8, which gives greater flexibility to click some nice portrait photos with blurred background as you can in some of the photos i clicked using this lens.
Good for the people who are learning photography and want to explore more in the photography field. Worth the money. A good edition to the camera along with the camera kit.

best lens for the price.
I have a lot of canon L lenses. But this compares well with L s in picture quality.Durability, water resistance are not there. But excellent lens general purpose lens particularly for indoor use. Good bokeh,autofocus,colour,low light capability . Looking at the price I had a low impression .But I was wrong. I should have bought it much earlier.

Amazed by the price
Got this at 6.7k during an offer period. Totally worth the money. Good blurred background for portraits. Also depends on the person using to make the most of it. Auto focus is a bit noisy and maybe a bit slow. But since it's mostly for portraits, you can get away with it. Yet to try any landscape type shots with this. I think the peak sharpness with a wide opening is at f4. f2.8 is also sharp.

Amazing lens at cheap price . It lets you produce artistic shots and beautiful bokeh effects . Its a prime lens (no zoom) and very sharp images perfect for portraits i personally love my portraits taken from this lens also performs well in low light and for still photography . This lens takes an immature photographer a step ahead in his photographic journey .

A MUST HAVE LENS
If you are into portrait photography then simply go for it. It goes perfect with my Canon 200D DSLR. My main purpose is to shoot B-roll for my YouTube videos and I get great shallow depth of field. The background blur is fabulous.
The Auto-Focus I would say is decent. It's good for face tracking and slow moving objects. But if you want to take some Pan shots then setting it to the Manual Focus will be the ideal choice.

Снимаю на него концерты, конференции и спорт в помещениях/темных локациях - для таких сьемок идеальный вариант, он очень светосильный и резкий уже на 1.2. Боке-монстр, размытие кремовое. Скорость автофокуса хорошая, но не моментальная, чувствуется что одному мотору тяжеловато быстро перемещать тяжелые (топовые) линзы.

- - Считаю их нет. На цену наверное жаловаться не буду, стоит столько сколько стоит, если уж купил, то странно жаловаться)
Сразу скажу, я фотограф-любитель, 50mm моё любимое фокусное расстояние. Камера у меня R6, поэтому выбор не велик был при выборе стекла. На данные момент провел 2 съёмки, поэтому небольшой опыт, но есть.
В кратце:
1. Боке, просто супер. Это прям боке-монстр.
2. Резкость. Это самый резкий объектив на который я снимал, а стёкл у меня было штук 7-8 (sony, canon ef)
3. По корпусу. Не понимаю...

- + Светлый, цветопередача, легкий и компактный. Волшебная, узнаваемая, характерная картинка, конструктив, вес, габариты Светосила - можно размыть ненужный фон, выделить виньетированием модель.

Все равно, это лучшая версия из всех полтинников. Основное качество – автофокусный, поэтому мануалы ему совсем не конкуренты. Можно сравнить с допотопной механикой современные автоматы. Материалы + качество исполнения - 10 / 10. Можно воспользоваться его резкостью вместо изменения фокусного расстояния. Очень интересный рисунок, за который ему можно простить любой недочет, особенно в сравнении с имеющимися достоинствами.

Брал для портретной съемки, иногда в городских застройках и архитектуры. Хорошая резкость по всему кадру. По работе вообще нет вопросов. Намного лучше технически чем 50/1,2 ЕФ, которым активно пользовался до этого. Светочувствительность на высоком уровне, поэтому вечер, ночь, рассвет — время, в которое можно отправляться на съемки, что мне нравится больше всего.

Начну с плохого: кенон почему то решил поменять пластик как в самой EOS R, так и в объективах, визуально и такстильно он мне нравится намного меньше предыдущего. В эксплуатации показал себя хуже, на матовой поверхности уже видны потертости. Следующая претензия к конструктиву, в районе кольца фокусировки пластик прогибается от среднего усилия, зачем так сделали не совсем понятно. Хотя в сети есть подробная разборка RF50L и на ней видно, что внутри сделано все достаточно добротно и на новом техническом уровне. Могли бы дотянуть это качество и до внешнего вида, обидно. Вторая и главная претензия к рисунку: в основном полтинники берут как раз из-за удобного фокусного расстояния и интересного рисунка в боке, с частичным сохранением деталей. Так вот рисунок в новом RF50L в точности повторяет тенденцию, которую можно посмотреть на примере EF35L и EF35LII. У RF50L боке стало более плавным, исчезла хроматика, блики в боке стали более плавными. Пошло ли это на пользу? Отчасти. Сказать, что боке плохое тоже не могу. На средних и дальних планах мне даже кажется стало маслянистее, ушел "дребезг" в листве. А вот на ближних пропала та индивидуальность, за которую любили EF версию. Зато объем RF версия рисует лучше, выделение главного объекта все так же плавное, но резкость в центре пошла на пользу. Особенно чувствуется на сюжетах со спокойным фоном. Исправили все главные претензии к EF - увеличили скорость фокусировки, убрали почти полностью ХА, сделали невероятно резким прямо с открытой. RF версия быстрее определяет лица и глаза. Дизайн с EOS R смотрится у полтинника очень гармонично, развесовка все так же удобная. Стоит ли это 160тр? Для коммерции можно взять Sigma Art (но мириться с ее неудачной развесовкой и габаритами), для индивидуального боке EF50L. RF рекомендовать за ее высокую цену не могу, наверное это для таких фанатов бренда как я, у которых полтинник основное стекло. RF за летние месяцы начинает в себя влюблять, заставляя подмечать в мелочах, что он стал лучше.

- + оч резкий по всем краям и углам . намного лучше технически чем 50/1,2 еф на беззеркалках нет вопросов по бек/фронт фокусу . наконец то можно (нужно) обновлять прошивки на объективах
- - дорого конечно . даже с учетом кэшбек от кэнон нет такого воздуха как у EF/ резкость есть и четкость а вот картинка не та
хороший новый светосильный универсальный 50мм . в режиме кроп 1,6 можно фотать как на 80мм . при том что 1,2 сохраняется . хороший новый объектив . качественный , быстрый . с кэнон R фокусируется быстро и точно . по прошествии нескольких месяцев добавлю что объектив очень нравится . в режиме кроп 1,6 не использую . снимаю в основном на открытой . видео красивое получается . фокус не елозит . авто фокус наводится мягко и точно .
