First reviewer says it all. Follow explicit instructions to set up as wireless. Read very carefully. If you have encripted wireless network the WCN option with flash drive copies the encrytion but need flash drive and possibly connection cable as the port is very recessed. For some reason my driver loaded to the print file port and I did not know what was wrong and e-mailed issue. 2 page response with specifc correction insrtuctions was received in less than 24 hours. I called support as I was not sure I was doing things correctly and got excellent service. Support will easily talk you through set up if necessary, I cannot critisize the set up manual because there are many options and just read every instruction and follow. It is easy to overlook an instruction. read carefully.I cannot believe what $160 buys now . I had s-800 and likely paid over #200 4 or 5 years ago. This printer is like a small office printer, sturdy and heavy with faily large footprint. Sits nicely on 2 drawer legal file next to my computer desk.

I rarely submit reviews. This all in one has taken now over 4 hours of my time. 4 hours that I could have been playing with my kids, reading, or any number of things. Getting it to work has become a Stephan King-like obsesion.The directions are lousy. It works sometimes and not others, recognizes my wireless network sometimes but not others. It is a piece of trash.Why not returnn it you say? Because it is not Amazon's fault. Canon support sucks to non-existent.But if my geeky friends cannot get it to work, which they also have not been able to, then we all have decided to have a Canon burning. Get some friends. a few good bottles of cava, a reporter or two, my flip, which I bought from Amazon and is great, and light it on fire, in a green way. Maybe just a little flame and a big pick-ax.Unless it comes to life, look for it on Youtube or a local Boston station

This is a good basic all in one printer for home use. We have 3 different computers (PC & Mac) working wireless with this printer. We are enjoying it very much.

I needed a printer for my wife who is a teacher. I went to costco and looked at the HP Officejet 6500 and this printer, the Canon Pixma MX860. On recommendation from an employee, I purchased the HP first. Bad mistake. I kept getting fatal errors just trying to install the drivers. I had no access to the scan/copy/fax features and it also felt cheap. So I returned it the next day and got the Canon for the same price. The Canon is incredible. The difference is night and day. I am extremely happy with my purchase. Would recommend this multi-function printer to anyone.

I purchased this printer after doing alot of research. I had purchased a really nice digital SLR camera and wanted a printer that could produce the quality images that my camera was capturing. I am so impressed. The photos are awesome. They are clear and colorful and loaded with detail. The printer also has individual cartridges for each color so that you can replace only the color that runs out. This will save money. Also, there is a paper tray for regular paper and another area for photo paper so that you do not have to switch back and forth. You can insert your memory card directly into the printer and see your images on the LCD. You can print from there.I am not much of a computer genius so I was really impressed with the ease of installation. I did not use the wireless option. I probably had it unpacked, connected and working within one hour.If you are looking for a really nice, multipurpose, easy to use printer that produces amazing prints, I would highly recommend this printer. It won't break the bank either.

I have not used this yet, however in setting up the wireless the printer had an issue creating a port for it to communicate under Windows 7. I found this driver from Canon Canada and I was up and running in 10 minutes:[...]

I'm mostly using the scanner, but I bought because my old-age HP printer died. I like Canon. The sheet-feed feature is very nice. Does a very good job with scanning documents. Haven't tried photos yet. There's a fixed negative area which should make that easier. Device is easy to talk to (Win 7, Vista, and XP in my house). I hardwired it on the network, but it's supposed to do wireless also. Holds a good amount of paper. On-screen commands needs too many button pushes, but it's not that bad. It's big, but they all are. Had it for a few months. I like it. I'd buy it again.

This printer has everythingIi wanted plus more! Some of my favorite features are the ADF (Auto Document Feeder) and Duplex Printing ( 2-Sided Printing)

I initially purchased the item in Jul 2009 - received the item but the item was not working right out of the box - error message about paper jam when there was no paper in it. Amazon replaced the item & the 2nd printer is no longer working since yesterday (09/12) and it was use for infrequent personal use. Will be on the phone first thing Monday (09/14) with tech support. Very disappointed with Cannon

I have had no problems with this product. I have not used the scanner yet, so I can not comment on that. It is quiet and works well. I hope this helps.

I really did not want to purchase this model printer because I had seen some negative reviews on the Internet. However, I needed to make a decision quickly so I purchased the MX860 and so far have no major complaints. The pictures I've printed are great quality prints. It's really quiet, but not very fast. I am a light user working mostly with photos, Word documents, and occasional printing from the Internet. I haven't mastered everything yet, but so far, so good! I really like the Canon brand printers -- this is my second.

I've always been a fan of Canon products. I've used their printers for years, including the i850, i4200 (still my favorite printer!) and the multifunction MP530 (my favorite multifunction), MX830 and the MX850. I bought the MX860 for the wireless functionality. I find this is the first Canon product I would not recommend. The wireless printing speed is incredibly slow, either from Mac or PC. Printing through USB is faster, but still far slower than previous models. The new ink is quickly used up and it's expensive. These ink cartridges are not commonly found other than on-line. All-in-all, a real disappointment. I did get the wireless connectivity I wanted but gave up much more in exchange.

I like this printer, don't get me wrong. But if you don't need the fax, document feeder, or two-sided copying (like I didn't) then save yourself $40 and get the Canon MP620. I had a little trouble setting up the wireless, but Canon Tech Support is good. They guided me through it and I was printing wirelessly in no time. Scanned photos, look true to their original. Don't be fooled by the guy talking about the scanner. He's trying to save documents in the scanner. I save them to my computer.

After years of frustration and struggle, I replaced my HP with this Canon and am absolutely delighted. We use a moderately sophisticated Mac home system, multiple Airports on a secure WDS setup for Macs of varying ages and sophistication. I used the UBS patchcord for setting up the machine, which was as simple as expected. Getting the Canon on the WDS was much more difficult, until I went on Canon's website and found up-to-date instructions tailored to Macs. (I believe the printed instructions with the machine were ported over from the Wintel environment.)Once up and running, though, seamless! Copy, perfect. Fax, faster and much more straightforward. Print, yep, any machine from anywhere on the property. Brochure paper, no sweat. 4 x 6 photos, perfect.Just incredibly cool, plug and play.

We are using this printer for the purpose of scanning photos directly onto an external hard drive.I have been able to use a Passport external drive with our HP all in one, but the Canon does not recognize the Passport.Yeah, I have to hook up the laptop, but with the location I planned on putting the printer, I have to bring in an extra table, or move my work somewhere else. (I guess I don't really need to be in the living room watching TV, but with hundreds if not thousands of photos to scan, it would have been nice.)They do provide a USB cable, which is good, but at 5 feet, it doesn't allow you to get very far, so I'll need to see about getting the wireless working.

This is my third Canon multifunction printer. Overall the performance to me is excellent. The scanning speed is very fast. Keep in mind that you will have to install the software on each computer that you want to access the printer.

I researched multi fuction printers for home office use, and this printer was the one with highest ratings elsewhere. The most wonderful aspect of this printer, for me at least, is that it's WIRELESS. Yep, it communicates with my iMac, MacBook Pro, etc. through the wi-fi in my house. One less cable! The speed is fast. The print quality is fantastic! I would definitely recommend this multi function printer for home office use.

Installation a breeze, only small glitch was the one 64 bit computer on the network needed the install program to run twice before it worked, never figured out why. Now all five computers are happy and able to print via the network. I was able to put the printer anywhere I needed because of its wireless network feature which helped out greatly, not to mention all the ethernet ports on my router were used up and I didn't want to add a hub. Prints are fast (after the first one) and of good quality. I don't use this one for photos (didn't even try so I can't evalate it on this), but the regular color printing is as good as others I've seen. I don't fax that much, but I tested it out and it was, well, a fax. Only have had it a month, but so far, so good.

Excellent printer. Easy setup. I bought this printer for its networking capabilities. I wanted a printer with a wired network jack, not just a wireless printer. Also, this printer doesn't use an external power suppy. I hate those HP printers with their giant power bricks that you have to find a place to hide. This printer just plugs in from the wall to the printer. Easy, good design. Works great with iMac 10.6. I've setup 3 of these printers for other people with iMacs, and they all love this printer.

I have not had this long but it works really well so far.Pros:scans very fast, very quite compared to the HP I had before. Multiple paper input trays. Goes to sleep when idle. Scan to PDF creates searchable document. Paper output tray automatically opens if closed when printing starts. Scans and prints multi-sided. Feels like a solid machine. Print quality looks good.Cons:Cannot send, view or control fax from computer. Too much Canon software to install. Does not auto select ADF for scan inputs. Network set up a little complex/convoluted even on a Mac, appears to be Canon proprietary network software and process. The machine is bigger than I expected

This wireless all in one actually works! It's a little slower warming up than others I've had, but the tech told me that it is because it is forphoto quality. My Brother 210 C had terrible color quality and the print head died. I then bought a HP wireless and it never did work with my HP PC. The 3rd HP I have bought and had to return because the software wasn't compatible with the HP PC. Go figure. I have spent hours on the phone to try to get the HP removed and have been sent pages of instructions that "might" require that I reinstall programs. Love the Canon so far, and I use it with my Mac Laptop also. Amazons no hastle return policy came through without a glitch!

I bought this printer to replace an old Canon S800 that was a very good printer. This new one arrived quickly (3 days), was in perfect condition and took about 1 hour to setup. Most of your time is taking off orange tape which is used to protect the parts that move. I did the usb connection to my desktop on Windows XP which was perfect. I have printed color photos they are awesome, did the copy function and did a scan to email (very nice). I have always been pleased with Canon products. The only part that is a little cheap is the paper tray, but how often do you have to change or add paper? Thanks Canon a great print/scan/copy/fax device.

Setup is a nightmare under Vista!Downloaded the newest drivers from the Canon website.Wifi: doesn't work. Can't find support for WPA.LAN: doesn't work either, no idea why. I tried to type the ip address into the find printer dialog, still can't find it.USB: printing works but not scanningI can't believe I paid 200.- for a usb printer :(
