- + Приобрел пол года назад и очень им доволен. Цена полностью соответствует качеству, пыленепроницаемый корпус, очень удобно держать, управление двумя колесами предоставляет возможность очень быстро настроить камеру в нужный момент, два экрана + подсветка. Автофокусировка попадает точно на 9 из 10. Не знаю почему говорят про плохую четкость при...

фотошоп нужен, и действительно, картинка из RAW красивее и информативнее, чем jpeg,но это больше проблемы формата, чем аппарата
а вообще - ДОВОЛЕН!!!

- + Очень удобная, некоторые мелочи могут оценить только опытные фототрофы, например наличие подсветки у экрана сверху, ночью без него очень не удобно. Пыле и влаго защищенный корпус, можно не бояться, есть и система очистки матрицы, аппарату уже пол года, пыли нет. Невероятно быстрый, совсем не думает. Достаточно удобное и понятное меню. Есть два режима работы (переключатель on/off имеет три положения, и управления камерой на двух положениях on разное, можно настроить под себя). Так всё и не упомнишь, он не очень тяжелый, звук хлопанья затвора очень приличный, ему и пятый кенон может позавидовать. Достаточно много настроек для вспышки, да и вообще для всего,...

- + Скорострельный, быстрая фокусировка. Матрица и процессор, практически, у всей линейки canon одинаковый. Какой фотоаппарвт не купи, даже бюджетный, не проиграешь!!!!!!!

- + Великолепный корпус, дополнительный экран, скорострельность. Очень удобен в работе.
- - кит 17-85 надо было брать тушку. Проявит себя только с хорошей оптикой.
В магазине взял в руки и обратно отдать не смог. Сравнивал с 450 Canon-"небо и земля", сороковка это "полупрофи", непонятно как его сравнивают с 1000 моделью. Великолепный аппарат.

Сравнил фотографии с EOS1000. который у сына, никакой разницы!
А стоимость в два раза выше!
Для любителя 1000 лучше, то же качество - абсолютно!

- + - Ну просто скорострельный.
- Очень быстрый превью.
- Приятный звук затвора будет радовать вас при каждом кадре =)
- Очень шустрый автофокус который уловит даже птицу в небе.
- Тяжеленькая!
- Очень удобное меню, всё находится за 2-3 секунды и не надо тут кричать что фуфло, все нужные настройки...

- + По сравнению с 350D, который у меня был до этого - ярче видоискатель, больше функций для съёмки, корпус более удобный (местами отделка под кожу, чтоб рука не скользила)
- - В режиме спорт может работать только как скорострел или спуск затвора с задержкой, съёмку одиночного кадра там выбрать нельзя. В 350D было можно. В остальном пока сложно сказать. Мало работал с ней ещё.
Откровенно говоря, снимая с L оптикой, ничего революционного по сравнению с моделью 350D...

- - Держать её не очень удобно, старый дизайн, даже дешёвые мыльници держать удобнее в руках, так как у них нет слева выступающей части! Наведение могло бы быть лучше, а то скорасть-то офигенная, а вот точность как Бог на душу...

This is a fantastic camera ! I bought mine second hand after owning the 550D for nearly two years which took excellent pictures. However I wanted a camera with a faster shutter speed and started looking around for a used 40 or 50D. I did some research into the 40D and although this camera is seven years old now it is still a superb camera !
Eventually I ended up buying the 40D over the 50D as I wasn't really concerned by the extra 5 mp. Also the 50D has a slightly slower shutter speed. I have had the camera just over a month now and have taken some fantastic pictures with just the standard kit lens which I have added to the images section when I went to London.
Please bear in mind that a camera is only as good as the person behind the lens. I was slightly concerned as I might be taking a step back by downgrading from a more recent 550D model, but I can honestly say for what I use the camera for I prefer it to the 550D.
Built quality is superb and cannot be compared to the 550D's plasticky body. The 40D has a magnesium alloy body and is built to last and weighs significantly more than the 550D which is a consumer grade model. Images are more vivid and sharp even upto high ISO's, but get grainy after 16000, but still useable depending on what your requirements are.
I have still yet to fully explore this exceptional camera as it has numerous creative functions and settings. The only thing I did not realise is the 40D takes compact flash and not SD. This was no big deal and I purchased a Lexar professional 800x flash card which does the job perfectly. The other two negatives are the live mode function has to be accessed via the menu, but can then be activated on and off using the set button on the scroll wheel. Also, the screen resolution is not as high as the newer models, but still good enough to view images on. Finally there is no video mode which the 550D had. But in all honesty, I didn't buy the 40D for its video capabilities, but for its image capabilities.
All I can say is don't write this camera off, even though its seven years old it can still take some brilliant images in the right hands. Also don't get carried away by megapixels either. I have seen some awful images taken by a friends newer camera considering its a much newer model, with a higher MP, and newer sensor I was quite surprised.
I highly recommend this camera. You can pick these up relatively cheap second hand now, but you are getting a semi pro camera for the fraction of the price for a new consumer SLR which in my opinion is exceptional value for money !

Excellent camera .
why , for the price its the best dslr on the market in my opinion .
the 7d , d90 and d7000 etc are better but also twice the price .
the 30d , d80 etc are just as good but with tiny screens .
So for £200 total i paid for the 40d and the 17-85 lens i get a very capable DSLR excellent lens with 3 inch screen excellent image quality , canon auto lighting ( not customisable but present )
sensor cleaner , better menu systems , excellent ergonomics ( i like bigger cameras ) , big viewfinder , c1/c2/c3 options , great exposure perfect almost everytime .
basically it functions easy with minimal effort and the photos are fantastic .
cons , low dynamic range but this is perfectly adequate (ie wait for better light ) as compared to more expensive cameras , and no video but i just use a compact camera for the rare occasions i need video footage .
i went more expensive ( as its hard not to ) but then downgraded again to this , its perfect for all i need and it AINT broke the bank either .

When I received this camera I was a bit shocked to find it was all wrapped up proper in a box with no cap over the front of it so any dust off the packaging could of gone inside the camera onto the sensor .Apart from that the camera itself is as new and amazingly does not seem any worse of it`s ordeal.

I bought a Canon 40D in October 2007 when it was still a pretty new model. It was my first 'large Canon' since I purchased a Canon A1 35mm camera in about 1975 (I still have that one although it now sees very little use...). I had in the intervening years bought numerous pocket cameras from several manufacturers but I did find my Canon compact film cameras tended to greater reliability than the Olympus models or one absolutely dreadful Nikon from which the (AA-size) batteries regularly dropped through it's bottom-hinged trapdoor at inconvenient times.
In mid 2007 having bought two or three 'point & shoot' digital cameras, I became interested in the potential of the proper DSLR models which could now apparently produce photographs that really rivalled what my old Canon A1 could do. I tried a number of cameras in the hand before I reached a tentative conclusion. Both Canon and Nikon were obviously of interest - they were competitors now as they had been when I had chosen the Canon A1 over its rivals back in the '70s. I tested a Nikon D80 quite extensively and was slightly unhappy about it in the hand. Quite unscientific but I just did not like it so much as the Canon 30D which felt very comfortable. I also tried the then popular Canon 400D and Nikon's D40 equivalent models. Frankly they both felt much the same - smaller, lighter and very much more 'plasticky' than the Canon 30D and Nikon D80.
So I was then very interested to learn Canon were about to launch the Canon 40D to replace the 30D. Its spec looked interesting (including the much touted, but in my case subsequently little-used 'Live View' feature). I still fail, after more than 3 years, to see how immediacy and responsivenesss when using a good bright viewfinder with a proper eyepiece can be beaten by an image projected onto a small screen - except of course when a tripod is being used for landscapes.
After trying several other cameras (but not admittedly the Nikon D300 which followed the Canon 40D to market by a few weeks) I decided to buy the Canon 40D.
I have to say that in early 2011 I am still learning things about using my 40D and I suspect I shall carry on doing so for some time yet.
I have criticisms to make of the Canon 40D but not anything serious. Setting up personal preferences and using the C1, C2 and C3 options on the Mode Dial still seems counter-intuitive to me, but the rewards are worth it even if making any small error in setting-up creates lots of extra work... Would I buy another? Probably not from my current position, but were I again a 'newbie' as far as DSLRs were concerned the very things that sold me the 40D then could well persuade me to purchase a new one even in 2011, particularly if the price was attractive. I think that is some commendation.
Eventually I will move on, but likely to a model still only a gleam in the eye of some development engineer at Canon (perhaps a Canon EOS 7D Mk3)...
