Das Gute zuerst: Cambridge Audio liefert wirklich ein tolles Gerät mit guter Ausstattung und vor allem mit ausgezeichnetem Klang und das zu einem sehr akzeptablen Preis. Das Gerät funktioniert ohne Probleme und die Installation ist problemlos.
Der Lautstärkeregler ist fummelig und mechanisch wenig vertrauenserweckend. Immerhin kann man durch Druck auf den Regler die Tonausgabe schnell ein- und ausschalten. Das Gerät hat keinen analogen Eingang, sodass es als allgemeiner Vorverstärker nicht verwendet werden kann.
Nun zum eigentlichen Problem: Der mitgelieferte Audio Treiber verträgt sich mit meinem Microsoft Surface Pro 4 und MusicBee oder FooBar2000 leider nur eingeschränkt. Die ASIO Ausgabe kann ich nicht verwenden, da immer wieder ein lautes Knacken den Musikgenuss stört. Ich habe daher auf WASAPI exklusiv umgestellt, was problemlos funktioniert und eine sehr gute Qualität liefert.

Realmente me ha sorprendido. Tengo varios Dac de sobremesa incluyendo: SMSL T1 (Que es una maravilla pero para escuchar por auriculares), SMSL M3 (Modelo de batalla), NUFORCE UDAC3 (Muy bueno), SCHIIT MULTIBIT (Va con un amplificador de auriculares VALHALLA 2), SMSL M8 (Quizá el mejor que va con un amplificador de auriculares BEYERDYNAMIC A20), FIIO E10K (Que es malísimo, no lo recomiendo a nadie) y finalmente la estrella era el Marantz HD-DAC1 (que es notablemente más caro) y tengo con los monitores JBL SR305. Pensaba utilizar este de secundario en otro escritorio con otros monitores más pequeños, pero se ha quedado como el principal. El sonido es muy limpio y natural con un toque a analógico que me encanta. El amplificador de auriculares del Marantz HD-DAC1 es infinitamente mejor eso sí, pero para tener conectado a unos monitores buenos pudiendo controlar el sonido desde el volumen del DAC lo prefiero...........y es un modelo de 2012.......pero sigue valiendo la pena y MUCHO. No ha quedado obsoleto para nada.

... aber nach ca. 9 Monaten wurden die LEDs für die Eingangsanzeigen, Filter und Abtastrate immer dunkler, bis sie zu Flackern anfingen. Nach 12 Monaten ist ein Teil nun komplett ausgefallen. Schade ... besonders unter Berücksichtigung des Preisniveaus.

Dac retourné après quelques jours parce que trop déçu.
La différence par rapport à mon laser, un Tascam, ne saute pas aux oreilles, sa musicalité est bonne mais pas extraordinaire non plus. Sa prise casque est définie mais le son est très lissé, je n'aime pas trop. J'ai plusieurs casques de bonne qualité et un modèle plutôt sombre est nécessaire pour avoir plus de matière dans les timbres. Le problème aussi est que lorsqu'on branche le casque cela coupe la sortie rca, et comme cette sortie est variable il faut remonter le potentiomètre à fond à chaque fois. Il aurait été plus judicieux de mettre deux sorties rca, une fixe et une variable. Bref pas génial dans l'ensemble.
En résumé, bon son dans l'ensemble, nombre d'entrées numériques plus que suffisantes, mais sortie rca variable et prise casque quelconque.

Macht was er soll für recht preisgünstig Geld. Für mich war wichtig das er den XLR Ausgang hat um ihn an meinen Lake People G111 Kopfhörerverstärker anzuschließen. Den internen KHV brauch ich nicht und folglich hab ich ihn auf festem Linepegel laufen. Bin sehr zufrieden. Hatte vorher den Cambridge DacMagic 100 der auch schon nicht schlecht war aber der Plus ist auch klanglich einen Tick besser. Vergleichbare Geräte mit XLR sind wesentlich teurer. Allerdings kann er kein DSD. Kommt für mich aber auch (noch) nicht in Frage. Alles in allem ein guter Dac zum vernünftigen Preis.

Lo sto usando tutti i giorni collegandolo a un lettore CD di fascia medio-alta e soprattutto all’iPad sull’APP di Spotify versione a pagamento con il massimo di campionamento e vi assicuro che all’ascolto riesco a percepire la collocazione dei singoli strumenti con una fedeltà reale (io ascolto soprattutto musica jazz).
È abbinato ad un ampli analogico anni 80 Harman-Kardon e casse AR sempre anni 80.
Lo consiglio vivamente per soluzioni tipo questa.

Ho inserito il DAC Magic Plus nella mia catena di ascolto con grande grande soddisfazione in termini di qualità sonora.
Oltre che come convertitore viene utilizzato come pre digitale collegato ad un crossover elettronico, nessun rimpianto (anzi!) del preamplificatore utilizzato in precedenza.

Es un producto profesional para procesar audio de alta resolución, no es una tarjeta para tener sonido envolvente (para cine o videojuegos). Après de très nombreuses recherches sur les DAC, c'est cambridge qui est sortie du lots. en effet par comparaisons prix/connectiques/processeur audio/ ce DAC est au-dessus. Si vous souhaitez investir moins chère vous trouverez le DACmagic 100 de la marque qui dispose du même processeur mais de moins de connectiques. J'utilise ce DAC avec des moniteurs studio professionnels (FOCAL SHAPE TWIN) et j'en suis très satisfait. Il existe bien sur de meilleurs DAC mais les tarifs ne seront pas les même.

Der DAC Magic Plus (465€) ist seiner Anschlussvielfalt flexibel einsetzbar: Digitale bzw. analoge Ein- und Ausgänge (Coaxial/TOSLINK/Chinch/XLR/USB und optional Bluetooth). Der integrierte Kopfhörerverstärker (kurz KHV) ist klanglich hochwertig mit ausreichender Leistung. Die Bedienung und Verarbeitung ist wie erwartet (Cambrigde Audio halt) top. Manche bemängeln den Lautstärke Regler, jedoch kann ich das nicht nachvollziehen. Klanglich hängt er sicher alle gängigen Soundkarten bis 200€ ab, denn eine solche (Asus Phoebus) ersetzt der DacMagic Plus bei mir.

- Nach ausschalten muss man beim nächsten Gebrauch die Lautstärke wieder einstellen, da sich diese nicht gemerkt wird. Es gibt ja sozusagen auch keine StandBy Funktion.
- Die Helligkeit der blauen LEDs ist grenzwertig.

Insgesamt also 1 Stern Abzug.

* DSP Filter ist nicht abschaltbar. Das Original- bzw. Quellsignal sollte möglichst unverfälscht wiedergegeben werden (können).
* keine Fernbedienung

# Kaufmotivation und Entscheidung

Ich wollte meine interne Soundkarte aus verschieden Gründen los werden. Erstens erzeugt meine (Asus Xonar Phoebus) echt viel Hitze. Zweitens kann ich diesen externen USB DAC (mit den ganzen anderen Anschlussmöglichkeiten) viel flexibler einsetzen. Ich kann da auch mal meinen alten alten CD Spieler anschließen etc. Drittens gibt es im PC Gehäuse viele Störquellen, welche Singnalfluss- bzw Qualität negativ beeinflussen können. Viertens wollte ich einfach mal ein neues Spielzeug.
Da ich über verschiedene hochwertige Kopfhörer verfüge (siehe unten), sollte der DAC über einen integrierten KHV verfügen. Sonst müsste ich ja ein weiteres Gerät - den KHV - kaufen. Geht...wollte ich aber nicht. Und ich dachte für 465€ für den DacMagic Plus, sollte der KHV etwas taugen. Leider wurde ich teilweise eines Besseren belehrt (s.u.).
Ich habe mir dann einige Geräte angeschaut und Testberichte (z.B. kenrockwell.com/audio/cambridge/dacmagic-plus.htm) gelesen und bin dann beim DAC Magic Plus hängen geblieben. Überzeugt haben mich die verschiedenen Eingänge (USB und Koaxial) und KHV bzw. die Vorstufe mit der Möglichkeit Aktivlautsprecher direkt am DAC anzuschliessen.
Ein weiterer Kaufgrund sind die attestierten techn. Maßnahmen um Jitter zu vermeiden. Dazu wird das digitale Eingangssignal per DSP und ATF2 Berechnung auf 384Khz hochgerechnet. D.h. diese Antijittermaßnahme wirkt auf alle Eingänge.

# Testumgebung

Das Wichtigste ist mir die Klangqualität der DAC Einheit und der Kopfhörerausgang- bzw. Verstärker. Auch möchte ich beim Computerspielen nicht auf THX TruStudio Effekte bzgl. der Mehrkanalsimlation für Kopfhörer verzichten. Deshalb fällt der Betrieb über USB für Letzteres aus, da ich THX TruStudio nur in Verwendung mit meiner OnBoard Soundkarte (Realtek Chip) verwenden kann. Quasi als Software DSP. Also hab ich für meinen Test SPDIF/Koax als Verbindung zw. PC OnBoard Sound und DAC verwendet.
Als Quelle dienen MP3s mit 320Kbit/s mit VBR bis runter auf 192kbit/s mit hohen Qualitätseinstellungen.
Ich teste auch den direkten Anscluss eines CD Spielers, um die maximal Leistung des KHV zu testen.

Der DAC Cambridge Audio Dac Plus hält, was die HiFi-Zeitschriften wie Audio, Stereoplay und HiFi-Digital in ihren Rezensionen / Beurteilungen über ihn schreiben: er ist ein wertiges, gut verarbeitetes Gerät für einen vertretbaren Preis. Klang excellent.
Habe ihn zwischen eine Logitech Squeezebox classic und die Anlage eingehängt. Eine kurze Zeit testhalber direkt von der Squeezebox und parallel über den DAC mal in verschiedene Musikarten reingehört. Der Aha-Effekt stellt sich zwar nicht sofort, aber wenn man sich etwas Zeit nimmt, doch ein. Recht bald wird dann hörbar - fast bei allen Musikrichtungen - dass die Höhen präziser, gelöster, die Bässe mit mehr Druck und straffer klingen (wie in den Testberichten auch beschrieben). Einstellbarer Filter ist zwar Geschmackssache, aber auch hier liegen die Gazetten richtig mit ihren Hörtipps.

Räume alledrings ein, dass die Squeezebox alleine für ihren Preis auch einen guten Sound abgibt.
Ist also nur zu empfehlen, wenn man die Squeezebox aufwerten will und "audiophiler" für einen angemessenen Preis die Squeezebox an sich aufwerten möchte.

Einen kleinen, manchmal nervenden "Bug" hat diese Ausführung: Die Lautstärkeregelung für den Köpfhörerausgang wirkt / steuert auch die Audio-Ausgänge. Beim Umschalten zwischen verschiedenen Quellen: DAC und Tuner/CD oder was auch immer, kann dies zu brachialen Lautstärkeausbrüchen der Lautsprecher führen. Muss man halt nachsteuern.

He oído cosas que antes no había oído en distintos tracks, juegos, etc. y eso que trabajaba con una tarjeta Motu de alta gama.
Un tamaño ideal y estéticamente muy elegante.
Estoy más que contento! será un clásico.

Als mein alter Sony CD-Spieler die Grätsche machte, habe ich erst mal übergangsweise CDs über meinen Marantz BluRay-Spieler gehört. Sicher ein gutes Laufwerk, aber mit dem Klang war ich bei Musik nicht so zufrieden. Nun ist der Cambridge im Dienst und leitet das von digital in analog gewandelte Signal an meinen Einstein-Verstärker weiter ("The Amp"). Was soll ich sagen, ein transparenteres und wärmeres Klangbild, ganz nach meinem Geschmack (als Boxen hängen Nubert NuVero 10 dran). Ich bin begeistert. Zwei weitere Fliegen habe ich mit dieser Klappe auch geschlagen: Der Einstein hat keinen Kopfhörerausgang. Ich hatte daher übergangsweise mal einen preiswerten (ca. 100,- €) Kopfhörerverstärker von Pro-Ject an den Tape-Ausgang angeschlossen. Das war aber nicht mehr als ein Notbehelf. Jetzt kann ich auch mal nachts oder Sonntag morgens aufdrehen und mir was auf die Ohren geben. Meine Köpfhörer (ein alter AKG und ein B&W P5 mit Klinkenadapter) klingen super. Zweiter weiterer Vorteil: Der Einstein ist für die Ausgangspegel der heutigen Ausgabegeräte eigentlich zu "laut", d.h. auf der untersten Raste des Lautstärkereglers war die Musik als Hintergrundmusik schon etwas aufdringlich. Der DacMagic Plus hat einen regelbaren Ausgang, so dass ich bei Bedarf den Pegel dämpfen kann.

Nutze den Cambridge Audio DacMagic Plus mit einem digitalen Onkyo Doc.
Die Qualität ist um Größenordnung besser als über den Analogausgang des I-Pods (mp3 mit VBR 320)
Auch als DAC über USB am Netbook einwandfrei.
In dieser Preisklasse unbedingt weiterzuempfehlen.

Trés bon dac.
J'ai decouvert les possibilités assez sympa de cette boiboite qui peut veritable ent servir de preampli.
La sortie casque est trés correcte (testée avec un beyer dt880) sans atteindre la qualité d'un ampli casque hdg mais peut deja se substituer à pas mal de choses.
J'utilise en xlr et en rca vers un nad C316bee. On peu meme chainer un autre dac en digital pour obtenir des in/out supplementaires.
Bonne sonorité bcp de détail et des graves presents.
Je recommande.

Prodotto eccezionale. La qualità della musica ha fatto un salto notevole. La ascolto con l'IPhone o con il Mac Book pro passando attraverso l'Apple TV collegato al Cambridge con cavo digitale ottico. Il suono delle casse Klipsch non è mai stato così pulito e ricco di particolari. Sono estremamente soddisfatto dell'acquisto. Ovviamente la consegna Amazon velocissima.

L'appareil est de bonne qualité et facile à installer.
Seul un câble USB manquant dans la boîte et pourtant indiqué comme pièce présente sur la liste, laisse sérieusement à désirer.
On peut se demander si cet appareil vendu comme neuf par Amazon l'est réellement car il a visiblement été mal remballé.

Premetto che non ho esperienze audiofile. Ho acquistato il Dac dopo aver letto recensioni ottime on line , particolarmente quella di tnt audio. L' ho collegato al mac via usb e con rca al
Nad 316. Diffusori utilizzati IL Tesi 240 Sono soddisfattissimo . Timbrica straordinaria , suoni che prima non riuscivo neanche a immaginare. Configurazione semplicissima e veri ingressi per componenti diversi. Lo consiglio vivamente.

09/06/16 l' ho restituito perché i led anteriori hanno cominciato a lampeggiare pur non compromettendo il suono. un malfunzionamento riscontrato anche da altri utenti.

I bought a Cambridge Audio Sonata AR30 receiver and Sonata CD30 CD player and the DacMagic Plus in 2012 (all from Amazon). The CD player lasted a few years before it would no longer recognize disks. The receiver stopped working with a puff of smoke a few weeks ago and the DacMagic died this last Sunday (it's either silent, produces a high pitched tone or puts out static when I press the power button--I guess depending on its mood).

If you Google "DacMagic High Pitched Sound" you will see I am not alone.

Even before the DacMagic failed, it was highly finicky--requiring multiple restarts before it would recognize the USB connection.

Cambridge Audio customer support will respond to emails, but all they will tell you is to send the component to a third-party repair facility (PanurgyOEM) for evaluation ($65 fee). And once you look at the Google reviews for PanurgyOEM, you'll probably decide it's a waste of $65 plus shipping both ways.

So, I spent about $2,000 on Cambridge Audio equipment and it all failed within 7 years. Maybe some of you think 7 years isn't bad. I think it is bad.

Fortunately I had in reserve a Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 (also purchased at Amazon) which I had used for recording. It is also a DAC and so I hooked it up--sounded way better than the DacMagic.

Loved this DAC for quite a while... Recently got into vinyl and it was our source to compare what iTunes has to offer in the digital music realm up against a turntable I built—the MP3 looses! (USB output, hi-res allegedly)

Mostly it serves as the sound source interface between a Mac mini and our integrated amp for movies and such or music whenever the records aren't spinning (not if I can help it!).

Today, picking up a movie where we left off all we heard was a very loud high-pitched sound... I power cycled everything... and swapped cables and ports etc... The unit is just non-functional.

Time to upgrade I guess. Pretty lame. I value things that last. Seems to be rare these days...

Plug this thing into the noisiest USB hub in your system and the DacMagic still shines. I bought this as an upgrade for the portable DAC I had been using for all my DAC purposes (a Fiio E18 Kunlun). I use the DacMagic specifically with my electrostatic headphones (Stax SR-207 with its SRM-252S dedicated amplifier) and my desktop PC setup with Tidal Hi-Fi (Windows Store version). It will work with Windows right out of the box, but you can play around with settings and drivers to avoid the messy Windows default audio mixing. (Specifically, setting Tidal to the CA DacMagic Plus as its default output, and setting that to Use Exclusive Mode and Force Volume, which apparently delivers bit-perfect output to the DAC). The DacMagic Plus will upsample whatever is coming in through USB before it puts it through the DAC chipset itself (twin Wolfson chips, one for L and one for R). There's no support for MQA files, but I'm not really convinced that technology delivers the huge improvement over CD that the MQA people claim anyway. (It'll play the files from Tidal fine, at apparently better-than-CD sampling rates [88.2 or 96], but it can't unleash the full resolution.) The result is very nice - a big improvement over my old Fiio DAC. The audio doesn't appear colored in any way. My Stax positively sing. It's hard to exaggerate just how clean the audio is, even with very sensitive headphones and everything set to full volume.

And for $350!!!

Now that I think about it, I should have gone with silver instead of black (think about it carefully, people!) but overall this is a nice looking bit of kit. It's not particularly big, taking up roughly the same area as a letter-sized page (but more square). You can mount it vertically with the handy stand, included in the box. There is a USB A to USB B cable in the box, but it's a bit short, so I went with another one I happened to have which is longer. The volume control knob is a bit on the mushy side. Pressing the knob mutes the device. You can easily switch modes from "preamp mode" (the volume knob works) to line out mode (the volume knob doesn't work) - see the manual. But I find the volume knob convenient and that it doesn't degrade sound quality (as far as I can tell). Unfortunately there's no volume meter. Other than the mediocre volume knob the build quality feels very nice. Haven't tried the headphone jack yet.

I'm very happy with my new desktop audio experience and I suspect this will please many, many other people.

If you are considering a DAC you already are familiar with what they can do. This from Cambridge Audio has completely transformed my listing experience. I grew up on vinyl and cds have been a great disappointment. My eguipment is not top shelf, Sony 100 watts into divinitive technology sm65 monitors. The addition of Dacmagic Plus has made a significant improvement. Not only would I buy the product again I would give as a gift to friends it's that good.
After 90 days review; I've just added my lap top with Pandora to this Dac set up. Another outstanding improvement to the sound. I still believe this Dac has been the single best investment in my moderately priced set up.
Day 91 review update; I've just rip my CD collection to my lap top. I did not know that the kbs was a variable that the lap top could manage for better quality sound. This process has added a new demension to the sound that is quite amazing. My wife mentioned that something is different in the sound, better, probably the best sound yet.
9/20 Update: what more good be said? Well 500 cd’s later. I’d like to comment on the volume dial. With hundreds of hours in this DAC I would say the smooth extended control of volume knob gives this device a feel of value.

What an absolute steal of a DAC. Second one Ive bought (the other is a regular DAC Magic in another system).

If you want a fantastic DAC to give your computer a huge audio quality boost (especially needed if you subscribe to Amazon Music HD like me and sometime listen via computer) to send a proper high end pre-amp signal to an outboard amp or even using the excellent built in headphone amplifier... well this is it. Smooth volume controll, very high end DAC chips, and Balance XLR
Outputs. I’ve got several Cambridge Audio pieces and they are all of the highest construction. So much value at this price. Make sure you set it up for USB 2.0 Audio recognition (if your computer can do it) as it defaults to USB 1.0 from the factory.

This is a really great sounding unit that is built well and an amazing value for the money. In my other rig I use a MOON Simaudio 230HAD headphone amp/DAC. It goes for 1500 and opens up a whole new world of resolution and detail to my Tidal streaming service. The Cambridge Audio DAC Magic Plus goes for 350. Admittedly, it doesn't have quite the detail or heft that the 230HAD does, but it sure doesn't sound like 1/4 of it. In fact, the DAC Magic Plus is easy to use, built like a tank and allows me to just enjoy the music instead of obsessing about the width of the sound stage. I highly recommend this unit as a way to dramatically improve your computers ability to reproduce sound.

The majority of the time, I use the unit as a pre-amp of sorts. The USB output of the PC into the DAC Magic Plus into a set of Blue Sky powered monitors. You can select between fixed output or variable - controlling the volume from the DAC itself. It is also a great looking piece of kit that doesn't take up very much desktop real estate.

I am extremely satisfied with my purchase.

Works great for my 2.1 system. lets me play mp3's and streaming audio from online radio or video sources from my computer (via a USB cable) thru the DAC, into powered speakers with no additional A/V receivers or audio amplifiers, receivers, or media servers needed. Best of all, it comes with hard to find XLR connections on the back for my powered speakers. I can use the DAC with headphones, too. At $350 it is an affordable and simple alternative to having lots of complicated A/V gear. An optional blue tooth adapter can be used if you want to eliminate the USB cable. Unfortunately, the Bluetooth adapter didn't work very well with my windows 7 computer (kept disconnecting), but it works great with my 2019 IPad Pro tablet.

I wanted something economical to drive a pair of Sennheiser HD600 headphones and portability was not a concern. On the contrary I was looking for something that plugged directly into an AC outlet for power. I also wanted something that could easily accept streaming HD music from services like Amazon Music HD, Tidal etc.., via USB. So far I have not been disappointed. The unit is made exceptionally well, looks good and sounds fantastic. Setup is just plug-n-play, BUT to get the best results you need to download the USB 2.0 drivers from Cambridge's website to handle high sample rates. I also purchased the separately Cambridge's BT-100 bluetooth adapter which also works very nice with my phone.

If I had it to do all over again, I would purchase this same unit. Highly recommended!

I bought this DAC for the headphone option. I use a small cd transport and run it through the DAC using the SPDIF cable. The sound is phenomenal. Most DAC's do not have headphone option and most headphone amplifiers do not have a DAC. This device has both and many other features. It works well and I have run tests comparing this DAC to my amplifiers DAC and I can't hear any difference.

This DAC is a very high quality piece of stereo equipment. The ONKYO 8050 built in DAC was nice but I can definitely tell a difference in sound quality using the DacMagic Plus. Much fuller sound and more detail. I though it made the highs stand out much more. I thought it was too much highs so I simply adjusted down the treble. The bass has much more punch even on lower volume. At high volumes it really sounds great. I would recommend this for a dedicated stereo with high quality speakers and power amp. Probably too expensive for just a desktop speaker system.
