Handles my 3960x well, but make sure you buy a soundcard. Unbearable electrical interference if you use the on board sound card.

Update: ASUS will not honor the warranty on any physical damage to the board. This includes a failure of the CPU mounting screws even if they fail (i.e. break.) before they meet the AMD torque specification (i.e. using the supplied torque screw driver). AMD says the bracket needs to meet the torque specification of the 3960x to work correctly and thus this is a motherboard manufacturing or design problem. Should anyone doubt this being a real issue the ASUS case number is N200265515.
While I love the ASUS tech I would recommend finding another motherboard manufacturing company that will stand behind the products they make.
VRM Cooling:
The VRM heat sink and cooling fans are tall. In the Phanteks Enthoo 719 you cannot install 140mm anything. On the Corsair SPEC series of cases you cannot install a 120mm radiator on the top without removing part of the VRM fan cover.
Device & CPU bracket failure:
ASUS once again doesn't supply parts up to AMD stated specifications. Several days after installing the CPU one of the processor tensioning bolts/screws failed. This was after installing the CPU using the provided AMD torque screw driver. Ironically, I didn't even turn the screw driver until it clicked (only until it started to torque. Due to other warnings found on Youtube.) Thus, the screw must be way under specification. Ironically, they have had issues with torquing screws on other devices. Most recently, the AMD 5700 XT graphics cards.

I'm running a 3970, 128 GB of G.SKILL Trident Z Royal Series (3600 MHz), two PCIe 4.0 SSDs, and an ASUS Rog Strix 2070 Super GPU. I say this to potentially excuse the noise issue (maybe this machine is just destined to always have fans spinning), but even under no load it seems that the chipset fans are always on (you can recurve them I suppose, but my system isn't running *that* cool anyway, so I probably won't do that ... and, really, how long does a system sit at no load ... running World Community Grid or Folding@Home will require them to spin up anyway). It's *not* "loud" ... it's just not quiet (I have a 9900K Alienware on the other side of my desk and that only makes a slight "hum" under load and runs about 15C cooler than the AMD system). I like the system, but the noise issue prevents me from giving it five stars. If your case is heavily noise-baffled and/or not ~3 feet from your ear, it might be a five-star MB for you though.

Do not buy this board if you are going with a silence build. Chipset fans way to loud and they're on all the time. The small blower fans on the mobo are basically laptop fans and boy they're annoying. That's not good. You have to adjust the fan curve to leave the chipset a bit warm in order to keep it quiet.

Loved the board while it was running, seemed to have some great overclocking features that I never got into in the length of usage. But after about 2 weeks running my system with stable temps liquid cooled processor and Graphics card, just seemed to die! Turned it on for work and all the sudden it just shut down. Fans were running as well as RGB lighting, but nothing else, no video whatsover. 2 error lights showed for Ram and cpu, and a cpu error msg. Got on the phone with both AMD first assuming it may be the CPU, which it was determined it was not, then on the phone with Asus. Rep did not seem to have a have a lot of support for the MB and just chalked it up as the VRM was bad.
Well let me tell you. It took me 2 weeks to build this thing with a dual loop system, and the thought of tearing it down was a nightmare, not to mention how much more costly it would be in order to do so. So not very happy.
I went on and replaced as suggested by support to replace the CPU as well which kinda was not a big issue being that I had purchased both within a month from Amazon.
Well let me tell you. It took me 2 weeks to build this thing with a dual loop system, and the thought of tearing it down was a nightmare, not to mention how much more costly it would be in order to do so. So not very happy.

the motherboard box was clearly opened before.
There are no seals at all anywhere and all the bags have tons of fingers prints and wrinkles.

This product page was listed as Asus ROG Strix TRX40-XE for months before I bought it, but received an Asus ROG Strix TRX40-E model instead, when I made my purchase. Amazon has since changed the model number on the product listing to reflect the E model instead of the XE. The difference is that I got a board with only a 60 amp VRM instead of a 70 amp. Now I know why they don’t include the product name in the order confirmation emails, just a link to your order detail page. This allows them to change the name of the product you ordered with no paper trail.

The first motherboard was sent and I setup my first build and I found out that one of the RAM slots was bad. That took me a week and a half to figure out. They sent me another board and that one died in a week!!! I'm not talking to ASUS to send me another board. I'll be sending this second one back very soon!! smh

Experience was better than my last asus mobo. The x99-a ii. Everything is working well so far. Only issue is the chipset seems to run a little hot. I idle at around 67c in 70f ambient. Under load it can get to 70-72c. And also the chipset fan is poorly place for dual open air gpus. With second gpu over the chipset fan my chipset temp went into to mid 80c. But a vertical gpu setup solves that
