"Global C-state Control" needs to be disabled in the ASUS BIOS, to avoid hardware errors. Other than that, PBO2 overclocking is trivial and the system is Prime95-stable on air-cooling (NH-D15).
I'm very happy with this CPU. Gentoo compiles have never been faster :-)

We haven't been able to overload it yet, despite deciding not to overclock.
We regularly run a Dante network, a DAW (Nuendo) working on Dolby Atmos projects in a 7.1.4 speaker configuration, with video We're syncing audio to, with multiple instances of Waves Clarity VX Pro (by far the most CPU-hogging plugin ever made) 64+ tracks a bunch of other plugins, analog audio processing with just a few microseconds of latency (imperceptible), VSTi instrument plugins, several background plugins needed to operate the Dante network, software needed for all of the controllers (trackball, digital-analog hybrid mixing console, RGB keyboard w/ Macros, RGB PC software, MIDI instruments, etc), Dante Virtual Soundcard for audio references/system audio, OBS, Facebook/Instagram/YouTube, and more all running simultaneously.
This CPU + 128GB CL16 RAM have handled everything we've thrown at it so far. We have CPU servers designed to offload some of the audio processing in order to take much of the load off of the CPU but we haven't needed any of them so far since upgrading the CPU to the 5950X

Ich habe vorher immer Intel gehabt, seit ich auf AMD umgestiegen bin läuft mein Rechner ohne Probleme bis jetzt.

The I upgraded to a set of G.Skill Royal 2x16gb DDR4-4000, Dual Rank, CL16 RAM. I was able to run the RAM a little bit past 3800mhz, but it posted the best benchmark scores with the RAM at 3800mhz and the Fabric Clock at 1900mhz. It did take some time to dial in the sub timings. I posted better benchmark scores running Dual Rank RAM at a slower speed in comparison to Single Rank RAM at a higher speed. So far, I can get a scores of 11600 in Cinebench R20 and 4950 in Cinebench R15. The key here is to get good RAM and tweak the subtimings..... which might take a while.
I also have PBO enabled and I downloaded the PBO program. Although I didn't touch the PBO program. Having ti running seems to help benchmark scores. If you're having trouble getting the PBO program to install then Restore the BIOS to Default settings.
When I got my RTX 3080ti I tested it in a system with an overclocked 8700k (actually an 8086k) at 5.3ghz with an AVX offset of -2, and I have a kit of RAM running at 3600mhz, cl16 with XMP enabled. Running the FFXV benchmark, 1080p Standard Quality, it scored 17500. With the 5950x (RAM tuned at 3800mhz, 1900mhz FCLK, subtiming tightened) the score was 22100. That's a pretty big bump. However, at 4k with the settings turned up you may not notice a difference.
The board I'm using is the Crosshair VIII Hero wifi and I'm using the Arctic Liquid Freezer II 420. I was using the 360mm version of the Arctic cooler, but I'm getting slightly higher clock speeds with the 420mm version.
The main Con I have is it took way too long to get this CPU. I've been trying since day 1 and it took several months to get this processor. The other con I have is by the end of 2021 AMD is going to release a version of this CPU that had more cache. Look up AMD V-Cache. I found this out after getting this CPU. Even with all that said, I feel fortunate to have this CPU and I'm very happy with it. I compress a lot of files and this CPU make doing this a breeze.

The 5950X replaced the 3900X using the same motherboard, case and cooler. The 5950X runs faster, peaking at 5 GHz but usually averages at 4.45 GHz. my old 3900X would peak at 4.2 GHz and average at 3.9 GHz. What is more amazing is that the 5950X runs a lot cooler than the 3900X. The 5950X peaks at 80 degrees C but averages 72 degrees. My old 3900X peaked at 95 degrees and averaged at 85 degrees. Add the fact that the 5950X draws less power than the 3900X to boot! You can even reduce power consumption by going into Power Options in Control Panel and select Power Saver mode. It will drop the idle CPU speed from 3.5 GHz to 1.7 GHz. But you must revert to AMD Ryzen High Performance or Balanced profiles for the CPU to perform at peak speed and the Power Saver mode throttles the CPU under most cases. Power Saver mode will drop the idle temps from 50+ degrees down to 35-40 degrees.
I use my PC for rendering videos. Unfortunately, the software I use does not scale too well with additional cores, but it still makes a difference. What used to take 45 minutes now takes about 35 minutes, so about a 20% increase in speed. Other than rendering, there is not much difference with the new CPU as the 3900X is pretty fast as it is.
The big question is whether the 5950X is worth the additional $250 over the 12-core 5900X. If you are using software that takes advantage of the additional four cores, then yes. But for most people, the 12-core 5900X will suit them perfectly, as the 5950X is only about 10-15% faster than the 5900X but at a bump of 30% in price. The 5900X is a better value than the 5950X. It would be interesting to see what AMD will do now since the new Intel 12900K CPU outperforms the AMD at a $150 lower price.
But the Intel requires a new motherboard (and the boards are quite expensive), new DDR5 memory (which is REAL expensive) and a heavy-duty cooler since the Intel draws nearly double the power than the AMD and generates a lot more heat, hitting 95 degrees easily. All this means that the Intel, while a cheaper CPU, will cost a few hundred dollars more because the supporting components are a lot more expensive.


That said, it offers blistering performance in gaming and absolutely crushes heavy all-core workloads. Didn't matter what I threw at it, the 5950x smashed the task and did it fast.
Not the best value for performance if you're ONLY buying it for gaming, a 5800x or 5900x would be more appropriate in that case if money is a factor. However, if you are gaming & streaming, or using this for video editing / image manipulation / software development, it's a workhorse that will surely impress.
Be that as it may, it appears there are frequent issues with potentially faulty cores causing hard reboots, especially on idle. Sadly the one I received was rebooting multiple times per day, and on the worst day I was unable to even log in to Windows for 10 minutes as it would reboot before it even reached the desktop.
Unfortunately, the research I did showed it's not an uncommon issue and could be caused by several things (all of which I tried to rectify with the most common software / settings "fixes", but was unsuccessful). However, unequivocally, the solution those users reached after exhausting all the possible fixes was to RMA the CPU, which, upon receiving a new CPU, stopped the random reboots in most cases.
Thus, I have been left no other option but to return this faulty CPU and hope the next one I receive works as it should.
Without the random hard reboots, though, this thing is an absolute monster of a CPU and, providing you can acquire one that is fully functional, would do well in any system with frequent intensive workloads.
I would have rated a perfect 5/5 had I not spent almost a month troubleshooting an issue that was out of my control.

Die Performance ist eher für Berechnungen / Content, als auf Gaming optimiert und man sollte das Geld, das zwischen 5800X und 5950X liegt, lieber in die 5800X und dann Rest dann in die GPU stecken. Aber auch wenn man auf dem 5950X zockt, liefert er naturgemäss. Die FPS gehen logischerweise dabei nicht durch die Decke im Vergleich zu der 2700X, die ich vorher drin hatte, aber es wirkt auch auf Single Core runder und weniger mikroruckelnd, so daß ich in Summe schon zufrieden bin.
Wer das Geld also gerade herum liegen hat, macht hier wenig verkehrt und solange die CPU unter 600 bleibt. Wer nur auf Gaming optimiert, dem sollten die 8 Cores der 5800X auch noch dicke für diesen Zweck reichen. Die 16 Cores der 5950X sind eher für eine Zukunft, in der man erwartungsgemäß die CPU dann eh wieder getauscht hat.
Leider ist der Kühlungslärm erwartbar auch etwas lauter geworden. Ich habe weder gemessen, noch mir die Umdrehungen der Kühler angeschaut, aber gerade unter Last ist der Rechner auch mit einem Scythe Mugen 5B wieder deutlicher vernehmbar, als vorher. Logisch: Gleicher Formfaktor bei doppelten Kernen. Jedenfalls denke ich jetzt über meinen ersten AIO-WC nach und die Industrie lacht sicher amüsiert.
