I had to adjust the brightness as it was set too high but once I did I saw more color/shading effect detail in the programs I use. Colors and brightness & contrast make everything look real good. Your text will be determined by the video card and the work pc I have has a cheap one meaning lousy. I know the text could look better as my home pc has a better graphics card.
Monitor has a small joystick on right side in back you use to get to the settings. Easy to use once you get the hang of it. The power button is the 4th on top of 3 others plus a power button I/O in back on the underside. The power cord and DVI cable needed to be pushed more firmly in the socket and port. The only con would be the location of the buttons as you naturally would put your hand on the side with your fingers touching them as you adjust the height of the monitor which I do several times a day as I sit in front. I paid about $150 for the monitor. It is inexpensive and you won't regret it. Just adjust the settings and you will be happy.
I got this as a cheap 27" monitor to mount vertically as my secondary display. I have a 32" 2560x1440 monitor as my main display (also an Acer product, but much higher quality). I would not want this monitor to be my primary display.
The pixels are visible at about a foot away from the screen, you can see lines running through solid blocks of color because even the subpixels are visible, and gradients are very blocky. It came with one dead pixel, but I didn't notice it until too late.
The bezels are a little deceiving when it's turned off because the plastic part is almost nonexistent, but when you turn it on there's a good half inch of LCD panel that isn't part of the display, which I would consider part of the bezel.
It is pretty clear when displaying text. That's about the only thing going for it.
I would return it if I hadn't already gone through the trouble of mounting it and redoing all my cable management (and cut out a part of the plastic in the back to fit the mount, and threw out the stand it came with...). Was so excited to get this monitor that I didn't test it thoroughly in good lighting before mounting it, so now I'm quite disappointed.
The ACER is a great second monitor. Set up was easy - less than 10 minutes to open the box, attach the monitor to the stand, and connect it to the computer. I connected it to my Dell desktop via HDMI, clicked the power button, Windows automatically recognized "monitor 2," and I was off and running. The color temperatures are slightly different on the two monitors, but not a deal breaker. If I were starting from scratch and didn't want to buy a 27" curved monitor, I'd probably go with two of these ACERs.
Video and photos look just fine, but solid colors like icons and window borders have that terrible streaking pixel look. For $130, I should have tempered my expectations, but still pretty disappointing. Tempted to return and go back to a samsung TN panel.
By the way, there are many reviews of it being DOA, but you must turn on BOTH power buttons (1 under and ` behind the monitor). Even though I did that, I was still getting a black screen, so I had to hold down the power button on the BACK for 30 seconds before it came on :) Also, those other menu buttons have good presets for different brightness/contrast settings (though a little hard to use with the micro joystick).
The picture and clarity is great when they have power. I've had dozens of Acer monitors in my business for 15+ years and never had this problem with any of them. But i'll be wary of buying this model again.
It is however, a great 75Hz 1080p display with plenty of configuration options and features and decent color quality control. I have to look at these monitors 8 hours a day and after using 1 for a couple of weeks I made the decision to buy another to match. Side by side you can see slight discoloration on the second. You really need to be looking to see it though. At first I thought it was because I was using display port on one and HDMI on the other, but after trading cables it made no difference.
If you want a quality mid range monitor, you can't go wrong with the CB272 series.
turning it on is another matter. it has a power switch (rocker switch 1 and 0) but does nothing.
the on off switch is located in back rt side top button (unlabeled). i found it by accident. once this button is pushed just once the monitor works from then on.
why didn't i consult the book you ask? i didn't have a microscope handy.
I needed a monitor that could work with my MacBook and I was on a budget. I looked at lot of monitors but as with most budget monitors they has one thing missing or other.
I wanted few things in my monitor
1- Display port, it gives exception result in font quality. HDMI works well when you have a 4k monitor.
2- Adjustable stand (it in an awesome completely practical stand)
3- Speaker (Speakers aren't really great and this is what you expect from a 2watt speaker)
I had almost purchased view sonic monitor and then this monitor popped up. I liked the fact that it has 360' stand and it really works.
It was really a difficult decision to buy this monitor since it doesn't have a lot of reviews and it just launched but so far it working great and my eyes are thanking me after a long hours of coding.
Also, I am getting full 75hz on my mac!
Cons
-The menu buttons are at the back side which makes it really difficult to guess which button does what
-There are two power buttons! please, who ever came up with this weird design deserves a pay cut! MAKE SURE TO TURN ON BOTH POWER BUTTONS, otherwise you will struggle like me.
-Also, the round button is for navigation, learned the hard way
OVERALL the only downside is the menu button but thankfully you wont be using them every day.
I am happy with the purchase and for money I paid I think it is a good buy!
I was actually quite surprised by this because my understanding of the advertisements for these monitors seemed to suggest that the image area went fully to the edge of the frame. So I decided to do a little looking around in the internet to determine whether I was actually having the kind of problem that would prompt the return of another monitor to Amazon. My preliminary finding is that a number of thin bezel monitors are built this way, and there have been complaints that other Acer models have this display peculiarity, as well as the least one LG model.
At the very least, the advertising for these monitors seems, at best, mildly deceptive, and at worst, intentionally so. I suppose that I am most surprised at the fact that there appears to be so little discussion about this issue in any of the video and electronics forums that I visit, since it was, at least to me, the first thing that drew my attention when I booted up.
I recognize that it is possible that I have drawn the wrong conclusion about this, and that there actually is a problem with the monitor that I received. I am interested in what other owners of this monitor have to say, and so I am reading the reviews here very carefully. If I find that I have been in error, I will be very happy to revise this review, as the monitor otherwise seems to be functioning as expected.
I would be very happy to be wrong.
I prefer 4K in 27"and larger, but my employer would not pay for two. I have adapted to these. They have really good off-axis viewing and out of the box the settings were very close. I just tweaked a little to get them to match.
I mounted mine off the wall using the VESA mount on the back. Another big plus in my book.
The built-in speaker is nice to have, but it's not very loud. You may still want a decent external speaker set.
If you are running two computers into these like me then also get a USB Switch Selector so you can easily switch your USB or wireless (with USB dongle) keyboard & mouse between the computers.
After a good bit of tuning, and I am now very satisfied with the picture quality. The IPS panel has outstanding viewing angles that gives a consistent color throughout the viewing area.
I was worried about only 1080p on a 27" screen. It's fine, but my next monitor will be at least 2K.
Brightness is good for this price range, but it's nothing too exciting. My next monitor will be 350 nits minimum.
The settings in the OSD that made the biggest difference for me were:
color temperature: Cool (warm gave it that brownish look)
Super Sharpness: OFF (made fonts look terrible)
Here are the rest of my relevant settings:
Brightness: 100
Contrast: 50
Black Boost: 5
Blue Light: Off
ACM: Off
Super Sharpness: Off
Gamma 2.2
Color Temp: Cool
Freesync: on
VRB: Off
Refresh rate num: Off
I supposed that Amazon has shipped the defective product which was returned by another customer.
I don't trust Acer brand anymore.
I recommend don't by this monitor.
